- Special thanks to Steve1989. Today I'm taking a look at a vintage Dutch 24hr Combat Ration. This ration with the 400g mains equaled out to a huge ration. Lots of cool stuff to check out including an awesome chocolate bar. This was a fun ration to get to check out. Steve 1989 hooked me up bigtime when I got this ration.

Shame the lasagna went sour. I'm surprised that the tin hadn't started to bulge. Cool review. Where Steve 1989 says "nice" your coined phrase seems to be "down the hatch". I have always dug old rations and I hope our military quartermasters watch you guys they can learn a lot from you all. There are some older meals that I wish they would reintroduce. Thanks again. Hey my friend ! Really good review ! I can't believe it's your first foreign 24h ration. I will have 2 Dutch soups in my next video. I enjoyed this mushroom one, but it was fresher. Very nice idea of combining the instant coffee with the chocolate drink ! I have to try it

Oh man you've gotta mix the coffee with the hot chocolate.... it's awesome. Yeah when I reviewed this thing it wad my first international review. I still have a hard time with 24 hr rations because I can't be on my feet for to long. I'm still trying to do them more often though. My leg is a bit better but I'm still on crutches at this point.

the Netherlands? You forgot the windmills and the cheese lol. Thanks for sharing this, it takes me back some as I ate the same rations when I was serving back in '91. For the entree and main, we had to dig a small hole in the ground, put in some esbit cubes and heat it that way. It didn't work, and then my sergeant said "you can eat it cold too" :-)

I always would go to great lengths to heat my food up. Not that I won't eat it "cold" but it's 100x better warmed up. Yeah idk how I forgot the windmills haha.

That big ole ration looks like a nice warmup to the Dutch arctic. Man, that was a serious hunk of lasagna man lol..prolly best you didn't go in for another bite lol..beef stew with lentils looked hearty as hell, I'd tear that up fo sho! And those Dutch spreads, especially the tuna are my absolute fave, it's so good..the dark fruit one, I thought that was prune..I've had one before and while I'm not a prune fan, I tore up that spread! Nice looking candy bar too!! Good stuff man!

Thanks man. The pate being 10yrs old was a bit scary honestly. I didn't care to try it tho. Surprisingly they held up. I've been told in the comments that the spread was like 4 different fruits mixed up. I could definitely taste the cherry,and some raspberry in there I thought. As far as the chocolate bar. That thing was perfect. This ration was stored properly that's for sure. I couldn't believe how good it looked for being 10 plus years old.

Great review. Loving the videos. I never had pate so dont know what its like. Lots of beverages but im sure they arent for just one meal. Lol its funny you mentioned your arms cuz of the dog. Cuz im watching and thinking man what happened to you. Probably some yardwork or something but its that cute lil pup. Aww so adorable.

Yeah I'm actually laid up. Haven't been able to do any yard work or anything really in a year and a half and 6 surgeries later. I just had another one like almost 3 weeks ago. So the videos I'm posting I filmed before surgery. I tried to be prepared this time.

28:30 is apple/ pear/ dates jelly called " Luikse stroop ", basically a jelly from Luik/ Liége ( city in Belgium ). Ever had a Belgian ration, from the eighties? They had tubes of jam, lemonade concentrate,
corned beef (Target )... used to get the left overs from my nephew's rations when he was in the Para's. Guess that's where I got the taste for rations & MRE's from :D

Well its semi-vintage for an international ration. Especially when is still edible. Usually they have a much shorter shelf life. But yeah I know the feeling.

Wonderful review, on A rare 24 Hr. ration !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not worry on time of review, we will watch !!!!!!!! Upload time on the other hand, well, sorry friend. That is A lot of options to divide and conquer ! Like yourself, I am used to sweetened iced tea, if I guess correctly? Never tried hot tea, until I started into MRE rations. I do like, when occasion is fitting. The Lithuanian tea you sent me, was the best I have ever had, promise. Yes, I like sun tea. I am from KY., do not ask me if I tried Bologna before, lol, we call it Ky. round steak. Lunch, I love mushroom soup. Hello Stella ! Jack and Ace would love to meet you. Already read earlier comments, would have thought Shar Pei also Smokey. Lentils and beef looked good, but I expected it to explode, since can not opened. Glad you surprised me, for your sake. All items looked good sir. Have you ever tried to explain, to someone overseas, breakfast, lunch, dinner, As opposed to breakfast, dinner, and supper? I have tried to explain, supper, is A Southern word, but confused? Just curious mi amigo? we learn as we go, rations, religions, ideas, beliefs, foods. This community, brings different people, ideas together, we learn from each other. Off high horse now, back to dinner. Bloom on chocolate, minimal, to say the least. She's actually 50 percent pit bull and 50 percent English Bulldog. She's a Pitbulldog. Or a Pitbully I've seen that name to. She's pretty cool.
Ah I see, from the face she had a similar look to a Shar Pei. Actually looked a lot like one my mom had, even the coloring. That fawn brown color. Still a really cute. :)

I’m diggin the WWII German K98K bayonet with its original scabbard and frog lol I have one too but mine was missing the frog and I have an original German WWII parade bayonet complete with its original scabbard and frog lol it’s really shiny lol and chromy lol

She's actually 50/50 British Bulldog, and Pit bull. The mom was the pit and the dad the bulldog.

this is the best . my dad and i eat them all the time . my dad was a soldier and my to . its so good and tasty .bleu pate is fish and red is chikken pate and the whit bag is thea and . tis very tasty . i love the fish .
I really like the tuna too. The newer mains are really nice looking. All I've ever had are older ones.

O wow just read the instructions for the linzen met rundvlees LITERALLY just read boil for 10 to 15 minutes, then you said i boiled it for 5 minutes.
I have that modern Dutch. It might be a while before I get to it though. Thanks for offering to help. I might take you up on that.

Yeah when I was 16 I didn't even know that military rations existed, because I lived in Holland for a year, just down the street from the army base, all of us kids used to give the guys and girls rides on the backs of our bikes when they were out on a training run, so they would only run half the course. If I had known about the rations I would have gotten a ton of them in exchange lol

It might have some liver in it? I thought that's what most pates' were made from.

Well alot of the ones I've had recently have been just pork,beef,or chicken. I've had plenty of liver but I'm not a fan of liver.
I actually mean that the main ingredient of Pate is liver,chicken liver,goose liver etc.

Yea I think we throw the term pate around to easily in the ration community. It just fits meat in a can to us I guess. But yeah your definitely right.

Idk it's a German K98 off of a Mauser. All I know is this is exactly how it was 25 years ago when I got it. It doesn't look like it's missing anything the leather/metal sheath is nice and complete I think.

Yep I'm an animal lover too. I've got 2 dogs now. We had 2 for a long time but sadly she's pasted 2 Thanksgiving ago.

It kicked my butt. I can't walk so it was actually pretty hard on me taking all the dishes to the kitchen, doing the dishes, the boiling stuff, I am hopping on one leg the whole time. I might hold off on the 24hr rations til I can walk. I have some international single meals tho. That and I have some other cool stuff I'm working on now too. Like 9 different generations of LRPs to check out. I want to show all of those in one video.

I am quite lucky that crud didn't kill me. I wasn't the only one that day with complaints. Don't recall the name of the restaurant, but I am quite certain neither I nor any of my family have been back since.

Roger that it is. Yes my Grandpa fought in WW2 he was all over Europe. He was wounded on 2 separate occasions. He got shot in the chest the first time recovered and went back a month later. Then he was shot in the wrist the second time. He had a big hole in his wrist. He always wore his watch over it. He was on the front lines during some important times in the War.
I wouldn't exactly call 2007 "vintage" :-P

Well it is if you consider it's a foreign ration in America. Try to find one, and 10yr old food is vintage to me. I guess I could add rare to the description to. It's pretty rare and old for food. There rations arent meant to last that long. Especially when you consider there packages this ration was stored very well I know that.
Sweet Vitamin C taste? Lol. Vitamin c is an acid, it has no sweet taste. Dextrose is just corn sugar. Vitamin C is ascorbic acid, and is what many you tubers are using for “sour challenges” right now. It’s monumentally sour, which is why citrus fruits are sour and very acidic.
Well all I can think is that those dextrose tablets are orange flavored. They are definitely citrus flavor. That's why they made me think of a sweet vitamin C flavor because they do have that vitamin taste if you know what I mean but they're obviously artificially flavored. I just consumed a pack of them last week I had been sick and they seemed to make me feel better because I had been so low on energy for 3 weeks I could tell they made me fell a bit better.

I don't think any American eats pate as a snack. At least nobody I know. Its something you've gotta get used to that's for sure.

My sincerest apologises Old smokey, I should have said you seem a little stiff and nervous in front of the camera, and a little work on that could greatly improve your channel.

Ok Scott. I wouldn't disagree totally with that. But as taking what you just said as constructive criticism. I think you should try doing one of these videos. I'll be the first one to admit they are not as easy as they look.
Always after filming while editing. I say to myself "oh man I wish I had said that or this". I believe as I'm constantly working on improving I will get better and more comfortable with time.
Alot of time I only get one shot at doing it right. So if I seem nervous then it's probably the case. But if you look at where I started some months ago. I believe I've came a long way. I'm never going to be perfect but I hope to continue to improve. That being said I do this as a hobby. It's something that has kept me from going completely crazy since I e been unable to walk for just 30 days shy of a year now. So I do these videos as much for myself as I do it for the viewer. I hope this helps you understand where I'm coming from here.
I agree with you, its impossible to take my original comment as constructive criticism, I offered nothing constructive and instead went for a personal attack and that's not cool, I hope that your channel continues to grow and that people such as myself don't detract from your fun while doing as, I wish you all the best.
