Man what a success of an experimental MRE explore, for as old as it was i was surprised it held up that good for that long and everything was still practically perfect. I figured at least the FRH would’ve been a for sure casualty. I’ve had 2012 government speck FRH’s in a case of Sopako civilian MRE’s, that were all pretty well duds. With the salt in the water to help it activate, they got luke warm at best, and it wasn’t even enough to cook the mains hardly at all. Glad that one held up!

+Gwen Patton It was maple flavored table syrup I think. It was very think too. But honestly the flavor is familiar to us in the US I guess. Fake maple syrup I suppose you'd call it. Just like the fake honey the sell everyone at the grocery stores. Most people don't even get it. Not to day that noone gets it but it's one of those things I think people choose to ignore.

You should have put the table syrup on the sandwich... or at least on the sausage patty. That would have been the perfect combo. Otherwise, great review. Loved it. Glad to see this stuff can hold up to extreme temps and still survive.
As a headphone user, I must ask you to see if you can bump the narration down to symmetrical mono in editing. The sever left-ear bias is off putting. On the other hand, surprisingly smooth and sharp video considering I'm only watching the 480p/30fps quality.

Can someone explain the product date 2321.... 321st day of 2012... why do they write it like that instead of putting a regular date formula so anyone can get it? Also, how do I know its 2012?
+krzeselko The type of bag the mre is in will tell you what the decade is. I'm getting ready to make a video explaining and showing how to tell the date of your mres. Also idk why they don't do the 5 digit date code. That would be much easier.
I'm probably actually going to try to shoot it today. I hope it helps people from buying old mres when they want to get new ones. The best thing though if your buying mre's is to always ask the seller for the Date of Production. Alot of times they give the inspection date because it's 3 years later than the DOP.

What they all said cheers~ is it me or are the MRE's coming with less stuff I've had to add a lot to mine, coffee, tea, salt, pepper, boiled sweets, bouillon cubes etc..etc.
My faith in MRE's as a survival tool in the upcoming test are now validated !! Each combat meal will feed two adult humans adequately,and completely with minor bulking items like pasta,beans,and rice [all store well]. We plan to have a box of extra components for use later,and trade value.Another box will store rocket stove fuel [cartons,no plastic].
Yeow! looking back at it the plastic does sound sort of papery and brittle when you put the coffee together, first time I have seen a failure like that though, chalk it up to the questionable storage temps?

Why does everyone do the frh wrong. The whole point of the water level and leaning on rock or something is to soak at a specific rate then you can add more water and get another heating out of it. Now if you want to heat everything than pull pad out bag put in the mre bag and stick everything in at once. Then add more water and a pack of salt.

I saw the guy that left a burger in his pocket of his jacket for 20 years and it looked brand new almost. The video is here on TH-cam. The bread didn't mold it only got hard.
I actually really like it but it's one of my kids favorites. Those frozen sausage patties from Walmart have been in my diet for 15 years and this was very similar. I've got one of the old menu 4 maple sausage that has the blueberry granola in it. I plan on reviewing that one soon to compare.
It's not bad in terms of long term storage and stuff that hast to endure the extremes of war. That's the way I try to look at all the military rations food instead of comparing it to store bought food. I totally get what you mean though. I feel that way when I see people eating that fake honey stuff they sell way to much of in the US.
Em Pac it's so much based on how to grew up and where. I grew up extremely poor and in North Ireland. I had never even heard of maple syrup but when we had American style pancakes or French toast it was with golden syrup.
Em Pac Which Grade do you prefer, I would imagine Canadians prefer darker more robust maple flavor so grade B? I don't know how Canadians rate grades of maple syrup.

That pancake is so disgustingly sweet, I can't describe it. I suddenly understand why diabetes is so prevalent in this country. If *this* is what Americans think of as "non-overpoweringly" I am both astounded and appauled. Your pancreas literally is incapable of processing this much sugar. And then the MRE actually comes with *more sugar*! How can you people tolerate food like this? I can barely take a sip of a soda without thinking about spitting it out. This is just sugary to a whole new level. If Americans think this is what food is supposed to taste like, they are diseased.
+Med Otaku When you add the maple syrup it gets overpowerinly sweet. It's definitely sweet on its own but the sausage cuts down on the sweetness. I'll say this as well that Americans in general are numb to the chemicals, sugars, etc in food. I'm disgusted in the things our country thinks is ok or they have no idea the things our government is allowing into their food. I think we rank at the very bottom of the barrel when it comes to health regulations. Basically out government let's things into food the third world countries outlaw. That's speaks volumes about where our country is in the food world right there.

+Frankie Garcia The salt water makes fir s more vigorous reaction in the frh. Think about it like a car setting to rust. If it's near the ocean or salt water it rusts away much faster. It's kinda the same thing. I was research a long time ago how frhs work and it just made sense to me to use saltwater. I actually keep saline solution just for my frhs. I use the very strong bottle I mixed for videos though.

It's was getting to the end of its shelf life though. Stored in good conditions it would have lasted another year or two I'd say.

I'll say there's not really a cheap way to get rations with smokes in them anymore. But if you really want to get one I suggest eBay.

Yeah dude I totally agree. I think the way I did it was about the only way to do it. The other stuff would have just ruined it in my opinion.

Table syrup is basically dark corn syrup. Karo syrup is pretty much the same thing. I use table syrup to make a really good Shoo-Fly Pie.

Thank ya Steve. This one is as close to a Mcgriddle as you can get from an mre. But it's honestly a good ration overall. My kids love this one btw it's their favorite.
You should have put the table syrup on the sandwich... or at least on the sausage patty. That would have been the perfect combo. Otherwise, great review. Loved it. Glad to see this stuff can hold up to extreme temps and still survive.
As a headphone user, I must ask you to see if you can bump the narration down to symmetrical mono in editing.
The sever left-ear bias is off putting.
On the other hand, surprisingly smooth and sharp video considering I'm only watching the 480p/30fps quality.

I'm sorry about that. I meant to tone the volume down but forgot until I was almost done editing. At that point it would have been tough to get it all at the same volume. Can someone explain the product date 2321.... 321st day of 2012... why do they write it like that instead of putting a regular date formula so anyone can get it? Also, how do I know its 2012?

The type of bag the mre is in will tell you what the decade is. I'm getting ready to make a video explaining and showing how to tell the date of your mres. Also idk why they don't do the 5 digit date code. That would be much easier.

I'm probably actually going to try to shoot it today. I hope it helps people from buying old mres when they want to get new ones. The best thing though if your buying mre's is to always ask the seller for the Date of Production. Alot of times they give the inspection date because it's 3 years later than the DOP.

What they all said cheers~ is it me or are the MRE's coming with less stuff I've had to add a lot to mine, coffee, tea, salt, pepper, boiled sweets, bouillon cubes etc..etc.
My faith in MRE's as a survival tool in the upcoming test are now validated !! Each combat meal will feed two adult humans adequately,and completely with minor bulking items like pasta,beans,and rice [all store well]. We plan to have a box of extra components for use later,and trade value.Another box will store rocket stove fuel [cartons,no plastic].

Yep.... I've traveled all over and I'm always told I've got an accent. It's no where near as bad as it used to be years ago. I try not to have it so bad.

Should of stuck the pack of syrup in the box as well I love warm syrup.
I thought about it but it was already super thin. It probably would have helped keep the muffin top warm longer.

Why does everyone do the frh wrong. The whole point of the water level and leaning on rock or something is to soak at a specific rate then you can add more water and get another heating out of it.
Now if you want to heat everything than pull pad out bag put in the mre bag and stick everything in at once. Then add more water and a pack of salt.

I actually really like it but it's one of my kids favorites. Those frozen sausage patties from Walmart have been in my diet for 15 years and this was very similar. I've got one of the old menu 4 maple sausage that has the blueberry granola in it. I plan on reviewing that one soon to compare.

It's not bad in terms of long term storage and stuff that hast to endure the extremes of war. That's the way I try to look at all the military rations food instead of comparing it to store bought food. I totally get what you mean though. I feel that way when I see people eating that fake honey stuff they sell way to much of in the US.
Em Pac it's so much based on how to grew up and where. I grew up extremely poor and in North Ireland. I had never even heard of maple syrup but when we had American style pancakes or French toast it was with golden syrup.

When you add the maple syrup it gets overpowerinly sweet. It's definitely sweet on its own but the sausage cuts down on the sweetness. I'll say this as well that Americans in general are numb to the chemicals, sugars, etc in food. I'm disgusted in the things our country thinks is ok or they have no idea the things our government is allowing into their food. I think we rank at the very bottom of the barrel when it comes to health regulations. Basically out government let's things into food the third world countries outlaw. That's speaks volumes about where our country is in the food world right there.

The salt water makes fir s more vigorous reaction in the frh. Think about it like a car setting to rust. If it's near the ocean or salt water it rusts away much faster. It's kinda the same thing. I was research a long time ago how frhs work and it just made sense to me to use saltwater. I actually keep saline solution just for my frhs. I use the very strong bottle I mixed for videos though.
