Too many of my adolescent heroes are passing on, Eddie being the most recent. I've always been amped up by Van Halen's music, and I've always marveled at Eddie's playing. Now, whenever they come up in my Playlists, or on the radio, I listen a little more intently, and better appreciate the true master of guitar, Eddie really was. Van Halen's music reminds me of some of the happiest and best times in my life. I hope they and their families are all happy and healthy.
As others point out - two class acts, Mike and Dave. Mike was the voice that made those harmonies sound like no other. When they let him go, a lot of us finally moved on. We stopped caring, which is sad and often hard to undo. Seeing these two up there without the others,...really drives the point home for me. At least we have their songs of summers past. Good times. That's something.
It’s really too bad differences couldn’t be put aside - every member that band should’ve been on that stage. Michael, Anthony won a class act, pure and simple.
It was sad that at such an event, to be given such an honour, the *actual* Van Halens weren't there. To not see Eddie or Alex left a hole during this induction. I understand Eddie was in rehab, but not sure why Alex couldn't have been there. Basically who we saw performing was Chickenfoot.
Total class from Mike and Sammy. During a very shitty time for my favourite band Van Halen with Mike being let go and the bullshit with Ed and everyone else in the world you gotta hand it to those two. Total class act and acceptance speech.
It was nice for Sammy and especially for Mike. I hate the others couldn’t be/weren’t there though. But SH & MA deserved the kudos just as much as anyone. RIP Eddie. I’ll be mourning your passing for a long, long time.
Sammy definitely belonged in the induction. He kept that band alive and they recorded 4 straight albums that topped the Charts. They’re the only Van Halen albums that have achieved that status. Roth chose not to attend because he wanted everything to be his way. He had issues with songs that the band would be performing.
Always my favorite song of the Sammy era. First single they realeased. Mike and Sammy come across as likeable guys. Van Halen was a great rock band. Every player was important to the end result. Decades of expertly crafted, solid fun music
As someone else, commented, MA is the heart of the band. He projects also a really sunny worldview whether he's playing/singing or speaking. I've heard his backing vocals derided as "bar band," but again as has already been said he gives VH its absolute singularity.
Mike Anthony and Sammy H are class acts. Although nothing beats the original VH.. It’s like 2 different bands. VH 1, Fair Warning, Women & Children First, VH 2 and 1984 are iconic. You can’t compare the original music with the Hagar stuff.
Sammy and Mike were the ultimate professionals. Both had been fired from VH a few years earlier but nevertheless represented the band with class and performed very well with David Letterman's band
Michael Anthony displayed pure class and a humble attitude which can be hard to find in the business of Fame. His background vocals and harmonies were a gigantic integral part of the Van Halen sound. VH were the greatest rock band of all time and my favorite band, the soundtrack to my life and it was so sad to see their induction be such a disaster. Journey are my number two and at least they could keep it together and have a great induction experience with Steve Perry. Mike's nod to Gary was a very freaking cool thing to do.
a true thorn in Edward's mind as a " what is to come moment ", that really pissed Edward and Alex off behind the scene if you know what also was being pushed on to Edward's state of being. it became a lasting insult to Alex and Edward after Sam did his selfish part of the moment , then later took Michael , it reopened that wound and was never reconciled . ROCK GOD EVH we miss U

I salute Michael and Sammy for showing up and giving thx to this hard rock band. I get it that Diamond Dave started but there's been fued at the time when Sammy took over. He wasn't replacing no one but Sammy was being Sammy and this is why Sammy and Michael work together and that's why they did two bands, Chickenfoot and The Circle. Credit Mike for thanking Gary Cherone from Extreme. Gary didn't have to be part of the group or be the fall guy but he had a great voice with great talent. It shows at the time that Eddie and Alex might have issues that they had to address but behind close doors. R.I.P./R.I.H. EVH.😞😞😞😞.
Came a long way from the Palomino in Long Beach. First time I saw them was in 1978 when they finished up their first tour t the arena in Long Beach. I just reported for my reserve cruise and went downtown to see what was up and saw a crowd there. Someone told me it was the band's return home to finish off the tour. I knew "Running With The Devil", so in I went. They were great; much more raw than later shows. Michael Anthony only played in F.
The Van Halen brothers really could have moved their induction to another year. It would have been more appropriate if both of them and DLR were there with Michael and Sammy. I think the Van Halen brothers issue has always been about control. DLR and Sammy were both great in what they did but neither brother could handle the fact that their lead singers were the voice and face of the band. And Michael Anthony was just the most humblest of them all. his background vocals are killer. Great band that was unfortunately never able to stay together. Even that said... they still managed to give us 17 years of great music (1978-1995). RIP EVH
Huge Van Halen fan all my life, my favorite band, after I watched this induction, totally betrayed and disappointed. Waiting for my favorite band to be inducted, and the VH brothers did not have decency to attend.
Mike mentioned Blue Cheer as the band that turned him on to rock and roll. Wow, what a shout out. Their guitarist was my dad's best friend in the 60s. He was made my godfather. Blue Cheer has been called the godfathers of heavy metal and grunge. So the godfather of heavy metal and grunge is my actual godfather haha.
What happened to them? They're currently on tour with a new album making a shitload of money and making a great rock comeback. And in my hand, I hold tickets for their concert at Philips Arena for tomorrow.
He is more talented. He is a better businessman and a better writer than DLR. DLR constricted the band to what he wanted early on because of his ego. Eddie got more freedom with Sammy. Sammy didn't have to be part of Van Halen at any point in his career, he was already successful and has been successful throughout his whole career, because he doesn't look at tours and albums as work, but more as fun. When you have fun, that's when the good stuff comes out. VH is working. Sammy is having fun....
Honestly whats the fucking point of even inducting them. If the main members arent even there and the majority of the band cant even be bothered to show up then why should they even be inducted.
ziggy4242 I totally agree. EVH was like the bread and butter of that band, and DLR was the best frontman. Not having those two in the induction made it really bad.
EVH in the past claimed that Van Halen wasn't a name, it was a band. Mikey and Sammy were just as much VH as Eddie, Alex and Dave! Dave was going to be there, but he couldn't get his way and bailed at the last minute. Eddie's gigantic ego was never gonna share a stage with Mikey and Sammy again, so it wouldn't have mattered if the hall waited another year!
I never knew that Alex, Eddie and David didn't show up to this induction. Pretty sad but I am happy that I have seen VH with David, Sammy and Wolfgang.
Sammy and mike had class to show up the other cowards didnt have the balls or guts to show up because the egos got in the way aka the halen control freaks brothers who wrecked the halen band period....
+Mark Billman yes they wrecked the band with their egoes. i read sammys bio and he clearly says the halen bros wrecked the band with the changing of the band manager ...listen to the sammy interviews on you tube etc
Sammy and Mike came out alive! Positive and enjoying life ! The brothers were miserable, Dave suffered from his own life. Eddie and Alex had no discipline with life choices, Sad.
Ed "its magic with Sammy." Then kicks him out of the band 2 years later because Sammy wouldn't be at his beck and call 24/7 and do as he wanted. Michael and Sam, pure class of VH.
Yeah Sam's wife was ready to give birth to a child at any time and he didn't want to leave her side. Ed said his work ethic sucked because of that. With all do respect to Ed, No Sir is was your drunk ass at the time thinking you owned Sam.
@@randyhimburg7915 the work ethic thing is hilarious because after Sam was kicked out VH did a grand total of 1 album and tour before the 2004 reunion and Sammy toured basically every year and released 4 or 5 albums. So the work ethic was complete BS the VH brothers were just upset with hen Sam wasn't at their beck and call 24/7

Mikey is one bad motherfucker! All class and an incredible talent
Michael Anthony was the secret weapon of the band.
No better bassist and back up singer than Mikey, a lot of songs wouldn't sound like they do without him.
Sammy definitely belonged in the induction. He kept that band alive and they recorded 4 straight albums that topped the Charts. They’re the only Van Halen albums that have achieved that status. Roth chose not to attend because he wanted everything to be his way. He had issues with songs that the band would be performing.
I hate how micheal Anthony is announced last with micheal there would be no VH WHAT AN ABSOLUTE CLASS ACT WE LOVE U MIKEY
These guys can play and sing even when sleeping... Man, two geniuses with other very talented musicians! VH is one of the coolest bands of all times!
Michael Anthony- humble, gracious
Sammy Hagar - humble gracious
MA is under rated. He’s got a fantastic strong voice.
Gary Cherone doesn’t get enough credit. Dudes vocals are so damn good on VHIII.
Cherone rocked. I would have loved to see them do another album with him.
Agreed...damn good vocal. It was just the wrong time
There are no good song It's just that there are no good songs on that record, even if his voice was good, which it isn't
Not as good as sammy, but still good, and his stage performance made up for it. Should have been a home run.
VH3 is an incredible record. extremely overhated.
I love both Van Halen versions. But I agree they should have all shown up and just accepted and had a good time.
Sammy and Mike were the ultimate professionals. Both had been fired from VH a few years earlier but nevertheless represented the band with class and performed very well with David Letterman's band
Sammy quit . Candyass made a choice do the greatest hits Warner DEMANDED or walk Candyass crybaby walked😫
the most important rock and roll band of the world...they are a legend
Michael , god bless you and your family. Sorry so much you are out of Van halen....
Mike Anthony never misses a note...ever. Sammy gives a great performance here. Excellent!
Love when Mike Thanks the fans, total respect, without fans,VH never exists❤
Sammy eddie alex and mike awesome best music your music has been like a best friend to me all these years when i needed someone to listen to there it was just like a hot summer night you me and my radio rock on
to this day still scratching my head .why wasn't Dave there?it would've smoothed over alot of Ill will.he helped create one of the iconic bands ever.
Very decent and classy mentioning Gary Cherone. Gary is a great performer in his own right.
you absolutely right my good man. At least Sammy and Micheal gave a decent vocal performance.
Sammy & Mike are a pure Class Act to go on with the house band & just being there for V.H 🎼🎸👏👏👏👏💪💯& now HOF you need to induct Pat Benatar 👌 She deserves it 20yrs ago 🎼🙌 thank you.
Wait are they inducting chicken foot
Lenard Reis HA HA CHICKEN WHO, SAMMY ALWAYS HAS TO HAVE SOME SUPERGROUP TO GET BY.VAN HALEN JUST NEEDS VAN HALEN.IL TELL YOU WHY I THINK SAM IS A DOUCHEBAG HE WRITES A BOOK BLASSTIN EDDIE PROBABLY RIGHTFULLY SO HE WAS REALLY METHED OUT BUT YOU NOTICE RECENTLY NOW HES TALKING SHIT ABOUT DAVES VOICE WHICH I HATE TO SAY HAS A POINT BUT WHY CANT HE BE A MAN INSTEAD OF A DOUCHE AND SAY HEY IM REALLY PROUD OF EDDIE AND HOW FAR HES COME QUIT DRUGS ALCOHOLAND EVEN SMOKING BUT THAT JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU HE COULD HAVE BEEN A MAN AND STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE AND GAVE EDDIE HIS MUCH DESERVED DUE BUT DIDNT STRAIGHT UP DOUCHEBAG SORRY SAMMY YOUR A CUNT SORRY LADIES.
***** that's because that's Sammy's honest opinion, and Sammy knows Eddie, and Alex better than than we do. He was part of Van Halen, but he shouldn't talk about Roth's voice which IMO is the true voice of VH.
Eddie is a douches bag that is why Anthony left his ass.
@@MatrixRZ5 Hagar all class.....DLR and EVH are egomaniacs.....albeit great peformers/ musicians in their day. DLR is apalling live now though.
mecha gojira69 turn caps lock off bro
Any people like that.
Become perform Van Halen.
I can't believe Sammy is 8 years older that David Lee Roth.
Wow!
Van Halen all original band members l think should have been in there them that night
EVH.😞😞😞😞.
R.I.P Eddie Van Halen..... Gone but not Forgotten!!!!
Michael Anthony is a true gentlemen.
RIP EVH
Much respect to Sam and Mike!!
Without David and Eddie it was not Van Halen
Classic Sammy always along for the ride
What happened to them? They're currently on tour with a new album making a shitload of money and making a great rock comeback. And in my hand, I hold tickets for their concert at Philips Arena for tomorrow.
Hagar deserves to be there just the same
Micheal Anthony is just so damn good
I would love to see Wolfgang pick up the guitar and go out with Alex, Sammy and Mike. I think Eddy would have wanted that.
Doubt it!
WRONG!! EDDIE WOULD TELL WOLF TO GO AND PLAY YOUR SHIT!! WHY DO YOU WANT TO PLAY MINE!!! PLAY BOY!!!!
Wouldve been mind blowing if they were all there!!!!!!!!! Love van halen.
Sammy took Van Halen to a whole new level.
A level I loved!!!
I like how Mikey gave a shout out to Gary Cherone great tour with him 1998!
Van halen one of my best lovely bands ever
Good to see Mike and Sammy keep rockin after all these crazy years.❤
I don't care what people say.. for me the Roth and Hagar put out some killer music !
That was cool that he thanked Gary Cherone. Micheal Anthony is a class act.
So agree - never listened to this band with Sammy - no comparison to the music they made with Dave!!
Classy, Michael Anthony and Sammy....the rest of this band has been screwing the fans for years.
Honestly whats the fucking point of even inducting them. If the main members arent even there and the majority of the band cant even be bothered to show up then why should they even be inducted.
***** Who the fuck cares ! induct them the following year then. There's not one Van Halen on that stage. WTF
ziggy4242 I totally agree. EVH was like the bread and butter of that band, and DLR was the best frontman. Not having those two in the induction made it really bad.
ziggy4242 everything is so splintered now that they won't ever appear together anyway.
So sad they couldn't work through their problems long enough for everyone to accept the award. Very sad. I've always loved all versions of Van Halen
Are you saying that Eddie and Alex wrecked the band Van Halen? Very insightful you are. CNTFCKBTCH punk you are.
+Mark Billman yes they wrecked the band with their egoes. i read sammys bio and he clearly says the halen bros wrecked the band with the changing of the band manager ...listen to the sammy interviews on you tube etc
The guy who has ego bother to show up, while others just don't give a fuck about awards like this.
Well, to be fair it’s their band to wreck if that’s what they want to do with it;-)
Sammy and Mike came out alive!
If you haven't read Running With The Devil , the audio book is on TH-cam, it was written by Noel Monk their first manager, go listen to it, it answers alot of questions and you will really get a good idea about who they really are
That was cool that he gave a shout out to Gary Sharon
