    My very first bike was a near new Ts 185er when I was 14, the bike was in tip top condition as my uncle owned a motorcycle shop so he made sure it was reliable, oh boy did I love that tourqey 185 2 stroke.

    Great job GG!! ..You should be proud of yourself, and what a great bike you've made in this project!
    Thanks for shearing, it is truly entertaining to watch your stuff.
    Remember, -The hard way is absolutely the best way to learn!..
    That's what skills are made of, you knows.. Great!
    --- the sound (knocking) can also be the fuel,...Remember, those machines were made for lead-fuel back in the days.. a low octane fuel, does even make a 4-stroker go with piston-knock.. try a hi-octane fuel, and even put some lead additive to it, trying it out...
    Also double check the spark plug...
    So that the length of it isn't a longer one....
    - And then keep it on the ritch'er side in air/fuel mix..
    - They didn't like to get to hot back in the day...
    Keep up your good reasoning work, and thanks again for shearing your stuff!..

    Nice work. Personally if I ever decided to get a dirt bike, I'd get one with a 4 stroke. I know they're not as powerful, but they're better on gas, quieter and pollute less.

    Make sure to bleed the oil pump. It’s okay now because you ran premix but with regular gas there’s a high risk of the engine seizing because of air in the oil pump.

    As was noted by other commenters: Yes, use ELECTRICAL (like lead-tin, eutectic alloy, not plumbing!) SOLDER + flux. Always ensure you have a firm mechanical bond between the two parts before you join them electrically with the solder. (Plumbing solder is lead-free because a Flint, Michigan situation = bad.) Don't melt the solder onto the components; that's not how it works! Instead, your components first have to be warm enough so when you touch the solder to them, the solder melts and flows like water to surround them. (But you still have to avoid melting the insulation and plastic parts, which is why you want to use a soldering iron with wattage appropriate to the size of the parts you're working with.) Hold the iron in place a few moments to ensure complete wetting. That's what it's called. No clumps; all smooth and mirror-shiny. Solder will not adhere to oxidized components, so you should first run sandpaper over the ends of the wires if they aren't bright and shiny. Soldering is easy and you only need a hand to hold each part + a hand to hold the iron + a hand to hold the solder + a hand to hold the light + hand to hold the solder sucker (when removing components from circuit boards) + a hand to give the finger to the part + a hand to... Anyway... it's easy! Yummy lead fumes... whee!
    13:51 there's smoke shooting off in two directions from the front of your exhaust header.
    Love it, Man. In 40 years, you're gonna be the guy everyone comes to to have their asses saved from a jam. Choose your clientele well, and "don't give it away if they don't appreciate it".
    Ah, all those unburnt hydrocarbons, waiting away to...somewhere. I'm in environmental engineering, so I feel I oughta point out my 1979, two-stroke Vespa shot as much carbon into the atmosphere as SEVEN SUVs, so... cheers.

    I wonder, could he show us how he rewired that whole thing, I recently got a ts185 I believe its from 1974 but it's an l model where as his is a k, but from my knowledge they have very similar wiring diagrams but I'm having issues with the wiring, so I was wondering if he could possibly walk us through a tutorial of the wiring and how it goes

  • @SlickD217

    Jump on ebay and grab a butane soldering iron. Under $10 and makes wiring a breeze. Also grab some thin 2% silver solder which is also pretty cheap on Ebay.

    im sure that noise is probably piston slap. your piston to bore clearance should be .0025- .003 with taper and out of round within a .001 guessing with piston size, measuring with feeler gauges and runing a glaze hone through it isnt gonna cut it. glad its close enough to run though you should have also closely felt to see if you had play in the big end of your rod bearing when it was disassembled. if you need some pointers or aren't sure about something id be happy to help. also dont bend your float tab to try to make it stop leaking it wont work trust me thats not why thats there. youll have to get a new float valve , you can probably find a needle that has a viton tip instead of the steel tip.

    • @owensaucy
      @owensaucy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know adjusting that tab isn’t the correct way but I have 30 ish old bikes now and just bent the tab works every time

    • @spartanindustries1286
      @spartanindustries1286 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @kizza40897 piston slap is when there is too much clearance between the piston skirt and the wall of the piston cylinder (piston to bore clearance) and the piston rocks and slaps the cylinder wall making a noise usually light piston slap will improve or go away completely as the piston warms up and grows from expansion making the gap smaller

    • @spartanindustries1286
      @spartanindustries1286 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@owensaucy whatever works for you but i rebuild more carbs than that every month sometimes 3 to 5 a day and bending the tab usually just aggravates other problems and is a work around and not correct practice. the fuel level can be set to fine to lean/rich conditions at different throttle openings/vacuum levels. and is best left at factory specs

  • @AimlessMoto
    @AimlessMoto 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If the clattering goes away when you rev it up (which it sounds like it does) it is piston slap. Should go away when it warms up.

    • @GoldGuyRides
      @GoldGuyRides  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a brand new piston with brand new rings. I assure you it isn't piston slap. The issue was the exhaust mount, the bottom bolt stripped out on the bracket and the whole thing was rattling around (among other things).

    hi Gold Guy, Im currently working on my own TS185 that I found on facebook marketplace, all you're video's have been extremely helpful during my COVID-19 lockdown project!! I have managed to start my bike also, but it is sounding very rough, it sounds like an old egg beater on a steel mixing bowl. In this video, it sounds the same when you say "rod knock or valve hitting piston" but then your noise seems to disappear. do you think my bike, after a long period of not being started, might just need warming up to blow out the cobwebs?
