After watching this video as part of daily routine for a month now. I finally picked this lens up today on a sale for 350$! Very happy. Can’t wait to start using it. Thanks for putting out great content.
New subscriber here! Got excited to see you release this video! I just got in my 16MM a few weeks ago and its good to see someone else enjoying it as much as I am! I also run it on an A6000 and A6300 and its changed the way I shoot BIG TIME! Perfect for vloggers as long as you put it on a tripod or add image stabilization in post. (at least for those of us who don't have IBS in our cameras) Im a portrait and sport photographer and it really changed up my shots during volleyball games. Amazing sharp auto focus, locks in in a heart beat (or less) and just seriously fast and perfect on the go. Love this thing! Great video by the way and keep it up! I also tried Astro photography for the first time with it and its changed everything about how I look at the night sky now! Waiting for the next clear night to get out and shoot some more! I just reviewed it on my channel as well and I wasn't sure I was going to see much interest because I demonstrated it on the A6000. Great to see other people are in my boat and loving it just as much. God bless dude!
👍 Well done, refreshingly practical, not “nerding out” at all. You tell viewers what is most important. I understand Sony engineers built in some sophisticated software in cam to deal with the kit lens optical limitations - to see for yourself in LR, turn off lens correction momentarily. LR CC enables manual lens correction, as well as auto correct via lens profile. Nice focus sound demo. Size/bulk can be ergonomic issue, as you pointed out - thought you were about to invoke the old joke “is that a Sigma in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me”.😁 Picky, picky: at about 2.22 min in vid you said “Sony 16”, but meant Sigma. What filter size does the lens take? I take it the lens is not optically stabilized. Keep up the good work, Kyle - almost 10K subs.
Hahaha I totally forgot that I said Sony. I meant to put a text correction there! Nice catch. Surprised I only messed up the name once. Thanks for the round up! ✌🏻
I will second everything you said in this video. Also it was another excellent review. I got mine a few months ago after seeing a few other youtubers recommend it strongly. I absolutely love, however, I have found that for what I mostly take pics of I need the 30mm. I plan on getting that pretty soon, unless I go crazy and fork over the bucks for the new Tamaron 28-75mm. I have had that lens for a while on my Canon T6i and love it for what I take pics of but really want the 1.4 f-stop. I still highly recommend this lens being a "must have" lens.
I just finished watching all of your dedicated A6000 videos and just wanted to say thank you! I just got mine yesterday and thanks to your channel I'm already very familiar with the camera. I'd love to see some videos on how you edit video footage. Such as how you smoothly transition in and out of the slo mo sections of the videos and what simple video presets/color corrections you use. Keep it up Kyle!
Thanks for checking the video out. You can checkout this lens and all my other gear on kit! www.kit.com/hikyletaggart If you're on the fence about this lens I hope this video helped you! 😁
Im still using sony a6000 in 2020 haha. This video is very helpful!!! I like to capture landscape pictures while hiking so I’m thinking of buying this lens!
It's the first lens I got since I mostly shoot landscape, but there are other lens like the sigma 60mm f2.8 that I use that kills it in sharpness, it is also much cheaper, I've learned that you don't must have a wide angle lens to shoot landscape.
Incorrect - you also have to change the aperture value when you incorporate the crop factor for Full frame. using this lens on a FF would make it about a 2.2
I like the 35mm but my gf loves the 16mm. It’s more about what you prefer! Both are fantastic lenses. The 16mm might be a little more versatile, but both are great.
I, personally, value quality more than portability, i bought a kit lens just because my Sigma 17-50 F2.8 is too front heavy for a gimbal because i adapted the lens to my M50, but i can see the drop in quality. If I'm getting a more expensive lens, i wish to feel the heft of the materials used on it.
This is a great review! I especially liked that you did compare it to the kit lens! If I might ask you, are you ever going to compare the Kit lens with the 30mm f1.4 from sigma?
Great review. Im trying to figure out which lens to get for a a6000 webcam/youtube/home streaming setup. I cant decide between sigma 30mm 1.4, 16mm 1.4 or a zoom lens. What would you recommend? It will be mostly gaming facecam or similar scenarios where im the main subject of the lens
@@kyletaggart Awesome, Was just confirming, I've been looking for a lense which gives about 24mm zoom on the aps-c, so somehow the 16mm (24mm) is the perfect lense for me. Loved the review thank you :)
Yesterday (28/2) I was taking some photos of the interiors of some of London’s churches with my 50 mm lens and while I got great pictures, there were times when I couldn’t get far enough back to get the shot I wanted. And so, based on your recommendation, I’ve just ordered the 16 mm Sigma lens. It’s my first non Sony lens I hope that it’s as good as you say it is.
For inside, 16mm would be better, but it depends on how much room you have. If the room is small, the 16mm would be way better. If you have some space, and don’t need the camera close to you, the 30mm would be good.
Hi Kyle, I'm a huge fan and your videos have helped decide on choosing a lens for my a6000. I just bought this lens for my A6000. The battery percentage is draining faster when using this lens and it seems like the percentage is not 100% accurate. When changing the lens back to the kitlens the battery percentage returns back to the percentage before using the sigma 16mm lens. For example I used the sigma 16mm at 75% battery then within 10mins of usage it goes down to 55%, after changing it to kitlens it goes back to 73%-75%. Have you heard anything about this instance? Is this an issue? Hope to get a feedback, I haven't found any discussion about this. Thank you!
Thanks so much! Yeah that doesn’t seem normal to me. I use the Sigma 16mm mainly for video and it doesn’t do anything to the battery like that. I also haven’t noticed something like that ever really, so unfortunately I don’t know! I’d suggest asking a camera shop or Sigma and Sony themselves! I really wish I was more help there.
Hey boss I have a question. Is the Sony a6000 that camera you are using for this video ? Is so ass you already know the audio quality is really bad. How do you to make your audio on your videos sound good? What’s your set up ?
I am in fact using an a6000 to shoot this video (and all my videos). Also here is the link for my video on my microphone! th-cam.com/video/M4Y5PlRpvD8/w-d-xo.html
Hey man how do I get the best video out of the 16mm1.4 with a6000? Distance about what you use to produce the above video maybe a little further back. You helped convince me to buy that thing. It is awesome though.
Hi I just got an a6000 and using the kit lens and another kit of 18-210 I find the images are not sharp at all, I use to own a nikon d3300 and found its better quality than my lenses with a6000 will this sigma lens make my photos more sharp compared to the kit lenses I mainly shoot landscapes and abandoned places Thanks
Hey Kyle, Thanks for an awesome channel. You've helped me without knowing it throughout the years! Anyways, you mention that you love pancake lenses, and I'm looking for a lens, that can take awesome landscape photos. I wonder, have you any videos on pancake lenses? I can't seem to find them. If you don't, there's a suggestion from a viewer :) Have a great day!
Your video's are very informative for the Sigma lenses! If I had the money I would definitely buy this lens for my Sony a6000 but I am content with the 30 1.4 lens for now.
Yes and no. There is no LOG shooting mode for video. So you can make some adjustments to video but not major. However for photo, you can shoot RAW and edit your photos all you want.
Yes with Lens, bag, extra Battery and memory... she showed me the Pictures taken By a6000 and when I compare it to Pictures taken by a Phone camera Now a days. The Phone camera is better. 🥺 Should I buy new Lens and what do you recommend?
So, phones are awesome at photos, but phones are limited by their sensors. If you’re craving the experience of a camera, learning photography, learning editing, and wanting a separate experience from the phone, I suggest getting a camera. You can of course - learn photography with a phone, edit photos taken on a phone, and get better at photography on a phone, but there are limitations to it. It’s all about what you want and how you want to experience photography. $300 for what they’re offering, is a great deal. But if you have a phone that takes photos you like already, I’m unsure why you’re looking for a camera in the first place. Think about what you’re looking for in the purchase.
It can be. It’s a unique lens for portraits as you’ll have to get close bc how wide it is. The 30mm and 56mm are more for specifically tailored for portraits.
Hello man. You really helped me a lot to know more about my a6000. Subscribed ! 😁 btw, what lens should I get to shoot better landscape and portrait photo? Thanks man :)
I just bought Sigma 16mm for my sony A6000, and I'm watching those photos - they don't look so sharp. Comparing it to the kit lens 16-50 - they look very similar at sharpness! I'm doing shots in ARW, and edit it in LR. Comparing that 16mm to my Sigma 56mm 1.4 - wide is much softer... Maybe there is something wrong with my lens? Maybe Sony A6000 isn't enought to catch it's sharpness? Whats happening here?
I’d have to see examples. I haven’t compared it directly to the kit lens. Maybe I’ll take a look and see if I can spot the difference. You shootings the sigma 16mm at f1.4? Or 3.5 like the kit lens?
I have the 35mm f1.8. Do you think its worth purchasing this sigma? Im not a pro photographer and my main purpose it to picture my kid with christmas lights. Thanks.
It might make things easier for you. You can be close up and get great bokeh with your kid. However is that alone worth $440? The Sony 35mm f1.8 achieves great bokeh, you just have to be a little further from the subject. It’s hard to say u less you try it and just enjoy 16mm more than 35mm!
No you don’t. Of. Purse both have pro’s and con’s. Sigma is a sharper lens, has great low light capabilities, and allows great bokeh. Kit lens is smaller, is a zoom lens, and it’s lighter. ✌🏻
@@kyletaggart Thanks, Kyle! I really appreciate you taking the time to answer. Can you do a video on the Sony SEL35F18 35mm f/1.8 Prime Fixed Lens (unless you already did one)? I saw you have it in your kit. Thanks again!
It’s basically my favorite lens. My Instagram is almost exclusively with that lens. I want to do a video about it! It would really just be me gushing about it 🤣
Is not having image stabilization on a6000 and 16mm sigma gonna make a big difference in my pictures essentially thats the only thing holding me back from getting this over the 35mm sony f1.8
@hikyletaggart I have an alpha 6000 with the 16-50 lens kit and i want to upgrade with a prime lens. I use the camera for photo in 90% of the time, especially for street photography and a bit for landscapes. What you say? Between sigma 16mm 1.4, sigma 30mm 1.4, sony 30mm 1.8, which is the lens for me? Thank you.
@@davidel3797 in my opinion yes. Also the low light ability you gain at f1.8 is great. It's also a similar size lens, so you're not adding too much weight/size.
I haven’t used the Rokinon but hear great things about it. If using for Astro I’ve seen amazing results with it. If auto focus wasn’t an issue I’d go with one of the manual lenses.
Hey Kyle, How do you feel about using this Sigma as an every day lens? Want to primarily photograph landscape and my new baby.. is this a good lens for that? Have you thought about reviewing the sigma 19mm? It’s so affordable. Would love to hear your thoughts on it vs the 16mm and whether the 16mm is $300 better.. thanks for the vids. Keep them coming!
New vid soon on editing your guys photos! Also I think the 16mm can be used for everyday use. I actually did some baby photos recently with it. You have to get close though because of how wide it is. When you get close you get a little barrel distortion, but I think I show in this video how to correct that. Also I’d love to review that cheaper sigma, the 19mm, but unfortunately I’d probably put the money towards a more expensive lens purchase (that’s just me). I want the sigma 56mm and I am most certainly not made of money haha. Also, don’t doubt the kit lens. It may not be the sharpest in the world but it can get you some good results with landscapes. If you find yourself shooting at 16mm a lot with the kit lens, you may be really happy with the sigma 16. If you’re always zooming in with the kit, checkout the 30mm f1.4.
Great feedback. I definitely tend to use the lower end of the kit lens more often. I usually only zoom when I’m trying to get the bokeh effect. Have you had chance to use the 19mm ever? Curious on how it compares. I’ve watched some other videos on it but appreciate your a6000 expertise. Looking forward to the new vid!
Aw thanks! And I have no used it unfortunately. I do recommend it though because it doesn’t break the bank. Also just a note, you can get that bokeh with 16mm at f3.5, just gotta be close! Test that on an object like a can of soda with some lights behind it. Then imagine the bokeh being down to 1.4! Hehe.
It is. Can be used as a portrait lens to incorporate backgrounds, can be used for Astro due to wide angle and f1.4, gives great bokeh all around, it’s sharp. It’s a fun lens to try and use in all different scenarios.
How would you compare this with the Sony 35 mm F1.8 for TH-cam talking head purposes on an a6000? Do you record most of these with the Sigma 16 mm 1.4?
I record most on the Sigma 16mm, the only reason I do that, is bc I like that I can record in a smaller area with it. The sony35mm provides a more flattering look though for faces.
Two totally different focal lengths but yes. Kit lens and 35mm both have OSS. Which is a great thing! I’d gladly pay an extra $50 for it in this lens but alas, it’s missing.
I think it’s personal taste. I haven’t used that one so I’ll have to do s future video. I think they’re used for different things. The sigma 16mm can be used for portraits, but the 30mm would be much better suited for that. However, that’s my opinion. The 16mm would have a lot of the background/surrounding in a portrait, and that may be the look you want!
If I may answer your question as well. It depends on what you mainly take pics of like kyle said. I got the 16mm a few months ago but I am finding I wish I had the 30mm as well. I take mainly car show pics and just general photography of people. I have the Sony 50mm, which is a great lens, but if you aren't doing straight portrait stuff a little wider would help.
That Sigma 16 Seems like a really nice lens for landscape. I have to say once I got my hands on the Sony 35mm I hardly ever lens swap anymore. Just got back from a Disney + Universal trip with the family and shot 35mm almost exclusively. I pulled the 50mm out 1x for some head shots but found it too restricting. I didn't take my sigma 30mm f2 out of the bag (going on eBay). The 55-200 was a lot of fun in animal kingdom. The 16mm looks like a nice option for car shows but if I had a choice I'd do the Sony 35mm or grab a 16mm pancake. The bulk of the Sigma 16mm would probably cause me to not take as many pics. The pancake on an a6000 fits nicely in a coat pocket and capture as much of the auto as possible.
Great points!! I rarely switch from the 35mm as well. The 16 is phenomenal image and video quality. I haven’t used the pancake lenses myself yet, but I’ve heard they don’t stack up to the sigma. Personally since my gf typically uses our sigma, I may go with a pancake. Sounds like one of the pancakes would suit you!
I bought a Sony a6000 camera and I also bought a sigma 16mm 1:1.4 lense but the lense won’t fit on the camera. I’m so confused and starting to get discouraged because this is the 3rd time I’ve ordered an emount for the lense and it won’t fit. The lense is too small for the camera. The emount sizes I have are 3 and 4.
Unsure what you mean by size 1, 3, or 4. If it states E Mount on it, they you should be good. Did you order from amazon? If not where did you get it? Send me a link and I’ll let you know if it’s the right one! 👍🏻
hikyletaggart actually? I THOUGHT I ordered the sigma 16mm 1.4 micro 3/4 emount lens but it actually was not emount. I found the correct lens and ordered it. All my lens come from mpb or BH. Thank you for your response.
Thnkx bro very honest review for sigma lens. I want you opinion on this I have Sony a6500 with 18-105/ and 50 m 1.8 now I am planing to buy signs 16mn 1.4 But I am confuse to switch my 6500 with Sony a7m 3 I need to add around 1000 dollar after sale my 6500 My question is how much difrence between the footage of full frame and crop sensor in same light confrions Can you plz give me ur advise
Use a lens with a low aperture (1.8, 1.4, ect). A wide lens as well. Manual focus might be best as well to dial it in perfectly and not have it change on you.
Great video. I have a stupid question because I still am learning. If I take a group shot like 3 to 4 people in the picture and I don't want the background to blur out, should I increase it to f2.8 or f4?
Yes, increasing the aperture reduces the background blur effect, it also reduces the amount of light let in the legs so you may have to slow your shutter speed or bump your ISO up. Just don’t go so high like f16. Something like f5.6-8 should give you the people and background in focus. Also the amount DISTANCE behind the subjects matter too. The closer the subjects to the background (let’s say s wall), the less background blur or background separation you’ll see! Hope this helps and keep practicing! 😊
Good point. It honestly didn’t come to mind because all the other wide angle lenses don’t have OSS (optical steady shot). For vlogging, the kit lens would be better as it has OSS. For photography it does come into play with low light and hand jitter, I should have mentioned it. With OSS you can essentially use a slower shutter than without. 👍🏻
Thanks! The lack of stabilization is not really an issue for me in the photography side since I mostly shoot landscapes and astro..but for run and gun photos I could just increase the shutter speed to compensate the lack of stabilization. On the other hand, I'll just add Warp stabilizer effect on Premiere pro for my videos.. Still a great buy tho.. I think its the best fast wide angle lens available for APS-C and a must have 👍🏻
Does it have image stabilization. When I tried to find difference b/w sigma 30 and sony 35 the main advantage sony had is it has OSS and Sigmas don't have. It would be great if you post a video about how OSS matters.
OSS should have been mentioned. Also I wouldn’t say the only thing diff between sigma 30mm and Sony 35 is only OSS. They’re diff focal lengths, apertures, manufacturers, build quality, size/weight, minimum focus distance, And OSS.
I don’t, but if you wanna shoot at f1.8 in broad daylight, or lower, it would certainly help. I personally don’t own any, if I were to start doing portrait sessions I’d get one.
yes and no. It''s certainly wide enough, and the image quality will be awesome, but it's not stabilized. So the footage may be very shake if you're just going handheld.
Can anyone help with what adapter is needed to connect the Sony a6000 to the sigma 16. I was under the impression that as they were both e mount they would attach but sigma is too big
You must have bought the wrong lens mount version. The sigma 16mm comes in multiple lens mount options. It should say on the box, or on the rear lens cap. I’d suggest returning it and getting the Sony E mount version. But if you need an adapter you’d have to get an Emount to whatever the mount that lens is.
Helpppp! Just bought the sigma 16 mm f1.4 lens for my Sony a6000 and it doesn’t fit!! Do I need some sort of adapter? I’m lining everything up but it’s not latching
The mount on the sigma should match your kit lens or any other lens that fits. If it doesn’t match (silver, 3 jutting our portions) then you got the wrong mount sigma lens. It needs to be sigma E MOUNT lens.
Thank you, this was really helpful. I have a question for you: what's the better low cost option (like neewer) if I want a low aperture and auto-focus?
@@kyletaggart thank you! I feared that.. sorry but I'm kinda new to this and I don't know so much. I guess I'll save my money for Sigma 16 mm f/1.4 then 😅
Just bought the sigma 16mm f1.4 for my a6000 after watching your videos and it wouldn’t fit. Do I need some sort of adapter? If so what do you recommend?
hikyletaggart well I’m not sure what’s going on then but it completely doesn’t. The locking tabs seem to line up but the diameter seems to be smaller compared to the Sony E-mount55-210mm
Yep, that’s the lens. Maybe you got one with a non Sony e mount on it. I’m honestly not sure without seeing it. If you place your other lenses with the mount side up, and the sigma mount side up, they should be identical. Silver, and the silver long bumps around the mount.
16mm sigma or 105mm sony for landscape? i have the 35mm already and the kit lens. looking for a landscape lens. Will not having the oss be a problem with a a6000?
For landscape, nah. OSS helps with shaky/blurry photos in low light. You’ll be quite happy with it for landscape. The 18-105 is a great kit replacement, and all arounder. I myself use the kit lens for wide landscapes, and the 35mm for vertical landscapes. My gf uses the sigma 16mm for landscapes and close up portraits, and the 18-105mm for everything else.
@@kyletaggart Cool man Thanks for the info ;p , save me some $$. I'll stick with the kit and 35mm for now and see how it goes with some landscape photos. Just recently got the a6000, Usually i just used an s7 samsung lol so the mirrorless is a game changer, will be watching your vids. Cheers again for answering! Check out my mediocre work in insta @snagaarts
I’ll check it out! I personally feel you should graduate to new lenses once you feel you simply can’t get the desired look you want in what you have, I got the 35mm bc the kit wasn’t sharp enough and I wanted more depth of field, it filled those needs perfectly fit me. I’m @hikyletaggart on IG, 🙌🏻
@@kyletaggart Cool man, I'll do the same as you and just keep on playing with the 35mm until i need something else. i am interested in the 18-105mm though cause i'll be making a promotion vid for my company for an expo 2020 and from youtube vids i checked the 18-105mm is pretty good for vids with a gimbal setting. Just checked out your ig, really crisp photos man nice page you have. What edit app are you using if i may ask?
Hey Mate, Greet from Melbourne. I have a6300 and Sony 35mm 1.8 . I am an amateur, dont bash me. Just wondering about this lens, because i curious with the autofocus system and the noise. One of my friend said Sigma have a problem with their autofocus, because its not native lens. However, i really need a wide angle lens, but its make me keep thinks about it because i have 35mm. Do you have any advice or suggestion? I found it that 35mm is really hard for vlogging.
For vlogging, honestly, the kit lens is great. 16-55mm works great. It has OSS optical image stabilization, and it goes out to 16mm wide. Another option is the Sony pancake lenses. Sony 16mm or Sony 20mm. The Sigma 16mm 1.4 is a lot heavier than those but it has better low light capability.
hello, thanks for the video, very useful, I have 1 question, if I have to buy one lens to make cooking videos, is this 16mm sigma lens better than sony 35mm thank you
16mm stretches faces a bit, just keep that in mind. Also it’s usually better to have day, a 50mm lens for the a6000 series as it’s a lens where you can be further from the subject.I like this lens for portraits but those are good things to know.
Today, Amazon UK is selling the Sigma for £1 cheaper than the Sony 16mm. Not sure that the Sigma is the right lens for me, I think f1.4 is awesome but I think it's too big.
Honestly, for walk around vlogs it might be the kit lens. 16mm OSS, and it’s small and light. Sit down vlog? The sigma 16mm f1.4 is best. Sit down vlog you can use all kinds of different lenses though as it’s on a tripod.
@@AnotherOverTaxedTaxPayer I used the 10-18 briefly for a week and really didn't find it worth the price tag ($800?). The Sigma 16mm f1.4 is what I use for all of my videos. The auto focus noise is loud, but I think I said in the video, if you're using an external mic you won't hear it. If you use the on camera mic you will. And anytime! I try and reply fast but sometimes can't!
Thanks for posting this! I'm now deciding between the Sigma and the Rokinon. The Rokinon 12mm f2.0 is $250 which is $90 off but it's manual focus. Ugh!
@@kyletaggart Thanks!Astrophotography and landscapes mostly. For the price the Rokinon is a really good deal. Manual focus should be ok for me but having AF may be worth the extra price for the Sigma and everything I read about it seems to be worth the extra $200. If there's a Black Friday deal I'll get the Sigma for sure.
Haven’t seen a deal yet for the Sigma, it’s a rather new lens. I say go with the Rokinon if you plan to do some shooting soon. I’ve heard great things about it and heck, it is wider!
@@ckdesignlab Just my opinion here: I've been watching and reading a lot about the Rokinon 12 and the sigma 16, and finally decided to go for Rokinon. BTW, I only shoot photos, so I thought the widest lens I could have would be my best choice, since I already have the 18-135 and the 35mm prime lens. Greetings from Argentina! Good channel.
First thing was 35 mm sony 1.8 for all my photos and video but now i have 1 more idea: buy 2 x lens, 16mm 1.4 sigma and 50 mm 1.8 Sony :o damn is hard work...
New sub here as well... I 've been using the 16-70mm Carl Zeiss on my a6000 since I got it, but I 've been meaning to get myself into astrophotography and I feel that it just doesn't cut it w/ the f4 aperture...unless I am doing something wrong... Much love from Greece ! Any advice is appreciated !
You can get away with some Astro shots with that, but yea a lower aperture lens would do the trick. Luckily there are a bunch of choices for the a6000. Sigma 16mm f1.4. Or manual lenses like the Rokinon 12mm or Samyang 12mm, which are cheaper and well praised.
@@kyletaggart The reply came lightning fast, thanks a whole lot for your time, I ll definitely look into those lenses, starting from that 16mm Sigma !!!
The benefit of the sigma is it’s also auto focus, and the 1.4 is one of the largest apertures for lenses that fit the a6000. Sigma has released 3 lenses for the a6000 line, 16mm, 30mm, and 56mm (2016, 2017, and 2018). All fantastic lenses. And no problem, I try and reply as fast as I can, I’ve been trying to stay off my phone though lol.
I have this lens on my a6000 plus my Zhyiun Crane on a monopod and man... I´m happy. I think Sigma is gonna KILL the market with a full frame version fot this lens.
The kit lens isn’t as sharp. The overall quality is better on the sigma by quite a lot. Also the low aperture enable better shots in low light, it allows you to shoot at lower shutter speeds, and lastly it has better bokeh. Hope this helps!
Hey, new subs here...want to ask on a6000 + sigma 16mm what kind of setting you usually used for portrait/ street photography....just thinking about buying the lens...
I shoot aperture priority, and then change my focus area based on action/movement. For street I’d use wide or flexible spot, and for portrait I’d use flexible spot. In AF-S you can use eye AF for portraits. Besides that the other stuff depends on light. ✌🏻
Honestly, you are the best resource in helping me figure out my own a6000.
That’s amazing to hear! 🙌🏻
Agreed!
I own an A6000 too and I just bought this lens... Im thinking of upgrading to A6400 too :)
I basicly bought a a6000 bcs of this guy
and I did buy an A6400
After watching this video as part of daily routine for a month now. I finally picked this lens up today on a sale for 350$! Very happy. Can’t wait to start using it. Thanks for putting out great content.
Haha nice!! You’ll love it
New subscriber here!
Thanks for the awesome comment! It really is a great lens and I love using it more and more.
67mm filter size. and it's not stabilized so it's ideal for the a6500 imo
Agreed! I mainly use my Sony 35mm f1.8 but I love this lens too!
Thanks for the video. I bought this lens when I upgraded my a6000 to an a6500. I also got the Sigma 30mm f1.4.
Nice! One two sigma punch!
Thanks fellow Kyle!

Thanks for this! My Sigma 16mm f1.4 has been ordered to my 6300. I’m so exited!!!!😬😁
Ohhhh! Gonna be sick!
on the way to the shop to buy it right now haha :D
I'm thinking about buying the lens for my a6300, do you recommend it or should I get another lens?
I recommend it for sure, it performs very well imo.
Im still using sony a6000 in 2020 haha. This video is very helpful!!! I like to capture landscape pictures while hiking so I’m thinking of buying this lens!
Would be awesome for landscapes and some astro!
It's the first lens I got since I mostly shoot landscape, but there are other lens like the sigma 60mm f2.8 that I use that kills it in sharpness, it is also much cheaper, I've learned that you don't must have a wide angle lens to shoot landscape.
Good points! I need more sigma lenses.
Do you think this is a good lens for concert photography or should I use my sigma 18-50mm lens
16mm with the 1.5crop factor makes it a 24mm focal length. Which basically makes it the budget version of the new sony 24mm f1.4 gmaster 😊
Can’t argue with that!
Incorrect - you also have to change the aperture value when you incorporate the crop factor for Full frame. using this lens on a FF would make it about a 2.2
@@caltheme7889 lol which still makes it a 24mm focal length ! F1.4 , f2.2 , "f100,000" = still 24mm focal length

I like the 35mm but my gf loves the 16mm. It’s more about what you prefer! Both are fantastic lenses. The 16mm might be a little more versatile, but both are great.
Just bought this lens for 240 euro's secondhanded, really excited!
I don’t have the 30mm f1.4, but if I did I’d compare it to the Sony 35mm f1.8. And a little bit of the kit lens too. Thanks!
Sigma 16mm f/1.4 - can i use this with sony alpha 6300?
Yep, just make sure it’s the Sony E mount version. Link in the video description.
@@kyletaggart I thought that the 16mm is for full frame, so essentially it would be a 24mm on an APS-C?
@@adamahmadfarid501 lol, yes, it's a 24mm FF equivalent yes. So...what should you call this lens?
@@kyletaggart Awesome, Was just confirming, I've been looking for a lense which gives about 24mm zoom on the aps-c, so somehow the 16mm (24mm) is the perfect lense for me. Loved the review thank you :)
Lol the only lens i have for my 6300 is the 18-105 mm. I dont think fitting into the pocket even matters😂
(It’s my go 2) been playing with this lens for while now super sharp lens.
It’s butter all I can say.
Buttery smooth!
It will help you achieve the shots you want for sure! Hope you love it.
How is the 30mm Sigma f1.4 for videos inside a room. Is 16mm better?
@@kyletaggart thank you Kyle!

Sony makes two of them, 16mm f2.8 and 20mm f2.8. I def wanna text those out eventually. Not sure if there is a pancake third party lens.
Not to late at all! I'm watching at 1:08am my time, enjoying it as always!
Thanks Ryan. How about the format? Pro’s, con’s, overall thoughts, Lightroom tip. And comparison to other lenses for size.

Thanks! New video soon. 😊
Question can u color grade using sony a6000
Yes and no. There is no LOG shooting mode for video. So you can make some adjustments to video but not major. However for photo, you can shoot RAW and edit your photos all you want.
My cousin is going to sell her Sony a6000 for 300 is it worth to buy it since it's year 2021 already?
I think so! Great deal (with a lens too?)
Thanks Bro! I really appreciate your reply!
Is this great for portraits?
I love the sigma 16mm for both landscapes and its even decent for portraits too. For portraits though you could go with the Sigma 30mm f1.4.
Very Nice thanks
I have the 35mm f1.8. Do you think its worth purchasing this sigma? Im not a pro photographer and my main purpose it to picture my kid with christmas lights. Thanks.
It might make things easier for you. You can be close up and get great bokeh with your kid. However is that alone worth $440? The Sony 35mm f1.8 achieves great bokeh, you just have to be a little further from the subject. It’s hard to say u less you try it and just enjoy 16mm more than 35mm!
Great review as always . Quick question. Do I need this lens if I already own the kit lens ?
Yes and no. You should learn to use higher shutter speeds to combat that. The majority of the time no.
@hikyletaggart I have an alpha 6000 with the 16-50 lens kit and i want to upgrade with a prime lens. I use the camera for photo in 90% of the time, especially for street photography and a bit for landscapes. What you say? Hi what is the difference between 16mm sigma f/se and 16mm sigma f/mtf
Never saw a distinction like that. Would have to see where you’re seeing that. 🤷🏻♂️
How is this lens for photography? Landscape and sports?
Photography it’s amazing. Landscape yes, sports, can’t see it being practical for that. At her have a zoom on for sports.
Hey Kyle,
How do you feel about using this Sigma as an every day lens?
Hehe.
You’re the man. Thanks for your responsiveness. I think I’m going to go with the 16mm for now. Just seems like an awesome piece of glass
It is. Can be used as a portrait lens to incorporate backgrounds, can be used for Astro due to wide angle and f1.4, gives great bokeh all around, it’s sharp. It’s a fun lens to try and use in all different scenarios.
Dude your channel is growing like a Los Angeles wild fire 💪🏽😎

How would you compare this with the Sony 35 mm F1.8 for TH-cam talking head purposes on an a6000?
Do you record most of these with the Sigma 16 mm 1.4?
I record most on the Sigma 16mm, the only reason I do that, is bc I like that I can record in a smaller area with it. The sony35mm provides a more flattering look though for faces.
@@kyletaggart What's an example of both for easy comparison from your videos?

I have sony oss 35mm f1.8. Do you think this will be advantage over it with the added cost
Two totally different focal lengths but yes. Kit lens and 35mm both have OSS. Which is a great thing! I’d gladly pay an extra $50 for it in this lens but alas, it’s missing.
i'm using sigma 30mm f1.4 right now...which is the best u think?
You could get really cool wide shots of cars. It close up! Maybe at an angle (where the headlight is). 👍🏻

Hi, do you have any tips/ settings for this lens when videoing the northern lights? Thanks
@@kyletaggart thanks so much Kyle
Anytime! Thanks for checking my stuff out. 👍🏻
Hi there! Quick question. Will the Sony ECMGZ1M Gun Mic eliminate that focus noise that you were talking about?
I don't have that mic so I can't say for certain. It should be far less than what it is without it.
hikyletaggart Thank you! I appreciate your help.
How about the lack of Image Stabilization? I own the a6300 and I dont have a gimbal. How's the experience in photography and in shooting videos?
I think its the best fast wide angle lens available for APS-C and a must have 👍🏻
Is it worth to upgrade kit lens to this?
100%. This lens is much better. Obviously you can’t zoom in, it’s fixed at 16mm, but it’s amazing.
@@kyletaggart im currently confused about getting this / 18105 for my kit replacement. Wdyt about sharpness in both of sigma and 18105 ?
Does it have image stabilization. When I tried to find difference b/w sigma 30 and sony 35 the main advantage sony had is it has OSS and Sigmas don't have. It would be great if you post a video about how OSS matters.
OSS should have been mentioned. Also I wouldn’t say the only thing diff between sigma 30mm and Sony 35 is only OSS. They’re diff focal lengths, apertures, manufacturers, build quality, size/weight, minimum focus distance, And OSS.
hi kyle, do you put lens filters to all your lenses? I dont know whether it is necessary or not to own them.
I don’t, but if you wanna shoot at f1.8 in broad daylight, or lower, it would certainly help. I personally don’t own any, if I were to start doing portrait sessions I’d get one.
Could you recommended this lens for vlogging with Sony A6000?
@@kyletaggart thanks!
M a beginner.. This cud b a silly question, but better to ask.. Does it require any adapter or mount to fit on a6000? Looking foward to buying it..
Does what require an adapter?
Thanks for the tip Sir, gonna save money to buy that Sigma 16mm f1.4 for my Sony A6000. :)

So this would be a 24mm full frame equivalent? I enjoy your work!
Correct!
Thank you, this was really helpful. I have a question for you: what's the better low cost option (like neewer) if I want a low aperture and auto-focus?
Viltrox and Sigma. But “low cost” ain’t gonna happen for auto focus. $200 to $300.
@@kyletaggart thank you! I feared that.. sorry but I'm kinda new to this and I don't know so much. I guess I'll save my money for Sigma 16 mm f/1.4 then 😅

No. Line up the white dots. White dot on the lens lines up with the white dot on the mount. twist, click, boom!
hikyletaggart well I’m not sure what’s going on then but it completely doesn’t. The locking tabs seem to line up but the diameter seems to be smaller compared to the Sony E-mount55-210mm

hikyletaggart sure does with an o sign and a slash cutting it in half
Yep, that’s the lens. Maybe you got one with a non Sony e mount on it. I’m honestly not sure without seeing it. If you place your other lenses with the mount side up, and the sigma mount side up, they should be identical. Silver, and the silver long bumps around the mount.
Can I use this lens for portraits photography?
Yes, you may have to get close though!
@@kyletaggart thank you for your help..
Once i noticed the pupils, I was instantly hypnotized.
Nice review ..thumbs up.
Thanks! 👀
@@kyletaggart Ooh also do you think the 35mm would suffice to make promotional video using a gimbal? or better the 18-105mm?
Hey Mate,
Greet from Melbourne.
The Sigma 16mm 1.4 is a lot heavier than those but it has better low light capability.
hello, thanks for the video, very useful, I have 1 question, if I have to buy one lens to make cooking videos, is this 16mm sigma lens better than sony 35mm
thank you
Probably yes, the Sigma 16mm is more versatile than the 35. Kitchens are usually tight spaces, so a wider lens would be better I think.
@@kyletaggart thanks dude, but while for cooking, i'll use for portrait, it's still ok?
16mm stretches faces a bit, just keep that in mind. Also it’s usually better to have day, a 50mm lens for the a6000 series as it’s a lens where you can be further from the subject.I like this lens for portraits but those are good things to know.
Hi! Is this lens going to be fine doing handheld landscape photography on my old Nex 5n?
Yep! Gonna be a little chunky for it (the lens is a little big). But you can handhold and get nice landscape shots.
@@kyletaggart is the absence of OSS going to be an issue? Thanks mate for your help
It’s more useful for video. It’s not a make or break feature in my opinion.
@@kyletaggart got it. Thanks mate
This lense used on a6000 wud still be 16mm or 24mm?
Technically it’s a 16mm. However if you care what it would be on a full frame camera, like the a7iii, it’s an equivalent to an FE 24mm.
Today, Amazon UK is selling the Sigma for £1 cheaper than the Sony 16mm.
Not sure that the Sigma is the right lens for me, I think f1.4 is awesome but I think it's too big.
It is a little big, I definitely want one of the pancake lenses. It’s great to have a choice!
hi,Your autofocus speed, at this video?in wich position it is?
I will double check later tonight. But I believe the the drive speed and track is normal. Using AF-C.
what are your thoughts of the Sigma 30mm 1.4?
Haven’t used it but I’ve heard good things.
Best vlog lens?
Honestly, for walk around vlogs it might be the kit lens. 16mm OSS, and it’s small and light. Sit down vlog? The sigma 16mm f1.4 is best. Sit down vlog you can use all kinds of different lenses though as it’s on a tripod.
@@kyletaggart Wow... Thanks for the very fast response. I do mainly sit down vlgs and was considering this lens vs. The Sony 10-18
Ugh!
Hey Chris! Good to see you. What would you use the Rokinon for? Let’s discuss!
Nice! I think both lenses are great, just some people really need auto focus and some don’t. Thanks for stopping by Pablo!
Don’t need to say more. I’m getting it right nowwwwwwwwwwwwwww🤑🤑🤑🤑
Is it compatible with a7 series?
100% yes, but it’s more of a 24mm on the A7 full frame line. This lens is designed for APS-C, but it will work on the A7 line.
I trying buy 1 prime lens but its So BIG problem which i can buy hmm :(
First thing was 35 mm sony 1.8 for all my photos and video but now i have 1 more idea: buy 2 x lens, 16mm 1.4 sigma and 50 mm 1.8 Sony :o damn is hard work...
very helpful
Perfect!
awesome video... thank you
thanks for stopping by!
Is video distorted or not (fish eye)
As you get closer, yes.
@@kyletaggart ok thanks. I now am aware of auto focus noise so I will go with 35mm 1.8 OSS. I wish there was something like a 25mm 1.8 OSS.
I did a review on the Viltrox 23mm f1.4. No OSS though
@@kyletaggart well since I use it for video OSS is needed. Also I think Sigma has a greater reputation than Viltrox but I will check it out
You use mic in this is vídeo? Or use a sony a6000 internal mic?
External mic. H1 Zoom. Love it!
Checkout my TH-cam setup video.
Can you pls tell the name of the song used in the beggining?
The intro is “Limitless” and I use www.epidemicsound.com
@@kyletaggart yeh too much tech hurts...relationships and friendships mostly hehehe. Thanks for the advice, I ll go for the 16mm then 💪💪
any nd filter recommendations for video for this lens?
I have this lens on my a6000 plus my Zhyiun Crane on a monopod and man... I´m happy. I think Sigma is gonna KILL the market with a full frame version fot this lens.
Nice! I need use my gimbal with this thing.
Excuse my ignorance but I’m still learning. Is really the only thing I’m getting from moving from the kit to this sigma the bokeh?
The kit lens isn’t as sharp. The overall quality is better on the sigma by quite a lot. Also the low aperture enable better shots in low light, it allows you to shoot at lower shutter speeds, and lastly it has better bokeh. Hope this helps!
hikyletaggart thanks!
Hey,
new subs here...want to ask on a6000 + sigma 16mm what kind of setting you usually used for portrait/ street photography....just thinking about buying the lens...
I shoot aperture priority, and then change my focus area based on action/movement. For street I’d use wide or flexible spot, and for portrait I’d use flexible spot. In AF-S you can use eye AF for portraits. Besides that the other stuff depends on light. ✌🏻
@@kyletaggart thanks a lot for your input...really appreciate it...couldnt wait for more videos
Can you please put your function up?
