Gusto, just bought the 12 Singleton of Glendullan, 40% ABV, 750 mil, $35.99 USD. Fruity, honey, toffee. I like it better with water, must be a scotch lightweight. Enjoyed you and your wife's review. An everyday sipper. I have ordered single malt filled milk chocolates from Vermont Country store and I had not tried Singletons yet. Hopefully it pairs well with milk chocolate. Very interesting though! Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and your wife!
Among these first five whiskies, the one that stood out for me was the Deanston. I tried a "Crêpe" pairing and realized the crêpe itself is a wonderful compliment to the maltiness of the whisky.
It was my first single malt whisky that I've tried. I completely agree with your description. From what I can remember this whisky was quite hot, stinging . I think this is what you described as a spicy pepperiness.
In the US we get Singleton of Glendullan. I tried the 12. It was not unpalatable, I actually finished it faster than usual (trying to free up cupboard space). But it was the least pleasant single malt I've tried. I thought I could actually taste the E150. And it had the typical palate-saturating tannin astringency that I dislike in mainstay blends, such that it overtakes and drowns out the actual malt flavors. There might be other malts that I won't repeat purchase, but with Singleton I'll actually skip their other expressions, despite low price. Too many others to try :-) And I'm not even of the mindset that whisky A is better than whisky B. I like most of them for different occasions. Ugly bottle, too, IMHO, although I'd ignore it if I liked the contents.

I'm curious to see which of these you chose as the best...

Give me 3 choices too start.. (Love Smells smoke whisky) not too expensive please..?
If you like smoky... Try 'Laphroaig select'
I wasn’t crazy about this whisky, maybe the right food pairing could have saved it for me🙂
SOWLEG I’m also not too fond of it but my wife Elna likes it a lot which is a surprise for me.
I'am First?! Greetings!
witsch master First indeed!

In de afdronk proef ik zoute drop
Maar misschien ben ik een echte Hollander die gek op drop is
