This was honestly the smartest move for the first generation of Avengers final movie (supposedly from rumors) so them going face to face with a possible with a possible Tony stark variant will be extremely personal and emotional for the og Avengers which is the perfect farewell if they indeed are saying goodbye, the perfect formula for a movie, especially with the Russo brothers at the helm.
Maybe at the end of the fantastic movie during the universe being destroyed the Tony Stark variant of Dr. doom cross paths with the original Dr. doom from the fantastic 4 universe and that OG Dr. doom is intercepted by Kang and we move forward for a while with the Tony start variant and secret wars. We might see the return of the OG Dr. doom working with kang
T. Howard is a miserable person. I'm glad he didn't end up being in multiple films. I always feel so bummed out whenever he is on a video. His energy is so negative.
For the moment, I do believe RDJ is the MCU Doctor Doom now. He was introduced as Victor Von Doom, not a Tony Stark variant. There are a lot of ways he can be introduced properly in a couple of movies before Doomsday and not feel rush and find his backstory really compelling. If Marvel went ahead with an announcement like that it must be because they ACTUALLY have a plan and just we have to wait and see how it plays out.

Doom has no reason to take off his mask. It’s not a disguise for him; his disfigurement is the key reason he wears it in the first place. Still not feeling this, but do think RDJ skills is up to it if no one else will play the role.

I gotta admit I really liked the 2005 Dr doom. It was a good plot device how when the solar storm hit, he didn't wait for the other characters and protected himself behind the shield, and that is how he starts morphing into the shield material which gives him unique powers to the fantastic 4.
Howard stark gives an infant Tony up for adoption after his mother dies giving birth, never being actually named Tony , he is given the name Victor , sad childhood , finds out who father is , hates world for it becomes dr doom.

I remember before endgame came out and Cosmic was showing clips of them saying "we are in the endgame now," then it turned to be titled Endgame. It was such a wonderful time to be alive lol. So exciting.

We keep missing the fact that Chris Evans just played human torch. Marvel is opening the door on Robert Downey jr playing a different character. Subtle but huge!
They've actually already laid the groundwork for this in Loki. In season 1, we're told that He Who Remains was born in the 31st century (assumed to be Nathaniel Richards) and we find out that is a Kang variant. In season 2 we find another Kang variant, but this is named Victor Timely and born in the 19th century. I think Doom will be the same. It is a Tony Stark variant from the FF movie's alternate Earth but born earlier in the timeline and named Victor Von Doom.

As for RDJ's ego, I don't know about that, but I'm sure the creativity of the project and the massive paycheque won him over. :)
This Doom being a Tony variant could have some credence to it as we've seen a similar case like this already **SPOILERS FOR DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE** When Deadpool meets Chris Evan's Human Torch, he immediately thinks he's Cap, before he flames on of course. This is obviously a fourth wall joke but maybe this could act as a clever set up for a qualification of characters being variants of one another. This qualification being based on actors who played them. So like despite Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers in the comics being completely separate characters with separate orgins, in terms of the MCU cannon Cap and Torch could be implied as variants of each other just because they look alike.

Honestly, it's a perfect bookend at the dawn of an MCU reboot. RDJ kicked off this universe, and it seems fitting for him to end it. A genius move, truly.

Casting Robert Downey Jr. is perfect. It opens the possibilities of Tony Stark either being a variant in the Multiverse that went extreme with his obsession to protect the world or Tony Stark never really died at all because his nanotechnology fused with him during his snap and repaired him internally but not externally (hence the doom mask). And the best way he felt he could defend the earth, going forward, was to take matters into his own hand and go covert and underground. It would be a great story-arc, pitting him as the main antagonist that turns into the very villain he’s trying to protect the world from. Ending the Avengers Saga with the actor and the character they started with. It’s perfect!!!👌🏾

Naahhh, if VvD is going to be introduced as a Stark variant to general audience and new demographics then it would just overshadow the real VvD character's stories in the future with them thinking and associating the character VvD with the character Tony Stark. This would be messy, VvD has to get introduced as its own character.

@@Algorithm62idk I think it could be great. I mean he’d essentially have to be a variant there is no alternative. How would the explain him looking the exact same? He’d have to be a tony stark who took on the mantle of Doom. Otherwise it’d make less sense with how they’ve presented the multiverse. He could still have the doom backstory but that’s highly unlikely that we get a full backstory on him anyways. Either way execution and explanation will be more important rather than if it’s a variant or not. No matter if you like this choice or not it could end up being really great or mediocre at worst.
I really hope they go with the evil Tony stark route. He can still be Victor Von Doom and be a completely different character from iron man but it would be cool to know that he had that iron man past
What you're saying makes PERFECT SENSE and I think you're right on the money. Doom (Behind Thanos/Galactus) is one of the most iconic Marvel villians. His backstory and origin is HUGE and can't be done justice this way. I do believe that after Secret Wars there will be a soft reboot of the entire MCU and we'll start all over with an all new Avengers, X-Men, etc with new stories. Very possible because how many times has DC rebooted Batman and Superman and Sony/Marvel - Spiderman?

Hear me out. Victor Doom is a different guy, his world is being destroyed by an incursion. He learns from Deadpool and Wolverine that a new anchor can be added to a universe and it can survive. The 616 universes anchor was Tony Stark. So doom takes over his universes Tony starks body and brings him to the 616 universe so he can survive, because he cannot exist in another universe and use his original body. As you said there is a comic line where doom takes over tonys body.
So after sitting with this for a night, I AM PISSED! D00M IS the GOAT! This is just typical MARVEL SAYING: QUICK, QUICK LOOK OVER HERE! NO! DON'T LOOK THERE! LOOK HERE! RDJ IS AWESOME! AS IRONMAN! When Deadpool meets Chris Evan's Human Torch, he immediately thinks he's Cap, before he flames on of course. This is obviously a fourth wall joke but maybe this could act as a clever set up for a qualification of characters being variants of one another. This qualification being based on actors who played them. So like despite Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers in the comics being completely separate characters with separate orgins, in terms of the MCU cannon Cap and Torch could be implied as variants of each other just because they look alike.
RDJ said he likes playing "complicated characters". Which makes me think hes not just gonna be a Tony variant

Casting Robert Downey Jr. is perfect. It opens the possibilities of Tony Stark either being a variant in the Multiverse that went extreme with his obsession to protect the world or Tony Stark never really died at all because his nanotechnology fused with him during his snap and repaired him internally but not externally (hence the doom mask). And the best way he felt he could defend the earth, going forward, was to take matters into his own hand and go covert and underground. It would be a great story-arc, pitting him as the main antagonist that turns into the very villain he’s trying to protect the world from. Ending the Avengers Saga with the actor and the character they started with. It’s perfect!!!👌🏾
I hope they do the body swap storyline with Dr. Doom. But a spin on it so we can eventually get the return of Iron Man.

Power is what drives Doom's persona and hunger. They introduced him on stage as an exemple of the multiverse's infinite possibilities. This Doom is a variant of Stark.

Naahhh, if VvD is going to be introduced as a Stark variant to general audience and new demographics then it would just overshadow the real VvD character's stories in the future with them thinking and associating the character VvD with the character Tony Stark. This would be messy, VvD has to get introduced as its own character.

And yeah, I was thinking about how mixed-emotional Peter Parker will be with fighting Doctor Doom since he looks like Tony. With Doom finding out that Stark was a mentor to Peter, imagine if Doom says this line from Age of Ultron to him: "Aww, Junior. You're gonna break your old man's heart."

@@Algorithm62idk I think it could be great. I mean he’d essentially have to be a variant there is no alternative. How would the explain him looking the exact same? He’d have to be a tony stark who took on the mantle of Doom. Otherwise it’d make less sense with how they’ve presented the multiverse. He could still have the doom backstory but that’s highly unlikely that we get a full backstory on him anyways. Either way execution and explanation will be more important rather than if it’s a variant or not. No matter if you like this choice or not it could end up being really great or mediocre at worst.

What you're saying makes PERFECT SENSE and I think you're right on the money. Doom (Behind Thanos/Galactus) is one of the most iconic Marvel villians. His backstory and origin is HUGE and can't be done justice this way. I do believe that after Secret Wars there will be a soft reboot of the entire MCU and we'll start all over with an all new Avengers, X-Men, etc with new stories. Very possible because how many times has DC rebooted Batman and Superman and Sony/Marvel - Spiderman?

Hear me out. Victor Doom is a different guy, his world is being destroyed by an incursion. He learns from Deadpool and Wolverine that a new anchor can be added to a universe and it can survive. The 616 universes anchor was Tony Stark. So doom takes over his universes Tony starks body and brings him to the 616 universe so he can survive, because he cannot exist in another universe and use his original body. As you said there is a comic line where doom takes over tonys body.
