it is in a VHS, need to convert it on an digital file and i don't have the material to do it by myself, so i can ask At a professional but I am a little limited money level at the moment, maybe one day And I must also find it in my old room;). It was in "les eurockéennes de Belford (France)" in 1997
From 1:51 throughout the second verse is a guitar line so good that I wonder why Jonny Greenwood didn't recycle it again everytime they played this live but I s'pose he can think of stuff like that off the top of his head easily enough that it probably doesn't matter to him
Yeah, exactly. And anytime you hear a performance of this song from around that time (summer 1997), he plays something *similar*, though not identical. It never sounded this good, though...at least not in the versions I've heard.
in fact, the band (thom yorke) was feeling the pressure before the release of The Bends, so they have opted to "americanize" the sound of the album as a whole in order to get a wider audience. maybe some changes could have happened during (or because of) these changes imposed or advised by i'm-not-sure-who
Dude it’s so fucking cool. It sounds like fucking sirens going by and like you know how it gets flatter with distance like as it goes by. He nails it it’s so sick
I used to play piano in a jazz combo. Top-level improvisation like this is something you cam prepare for, practice and practice to create spontaneously in the moment, but it's not strictly reproducible. It's on the edge of a razor live, and the next night's performance is an entirely different, unique razor's edge.
He plays pretty aggressively, and at least in the 90's he kind of wore out his arm doing it, so he'd sometimes wear that brace on his arm to combat his repetitive strain injury.
One of the best songs they ever made. Underrated but in my Top 5 list of all radiohead songs. The textures and the sound in this song are were very special for the mid 90s and that bass line is amazing.
You can force it but it will not come You can taste it but it will not form You can crush it but it's always here You can crush it but it's always near Chasing you home Saying, everything is broken Everyone is broken You can force it but it will stay stung You can crush it as dry as a bone You can walk it home straight from school You can kiss, you can break all the rules But still, everything is broken Everyone is broken Everyone is, everyone is broken Everyone is, everything is broken Why can't you forget? Why can't you forget? Why can't you forget?
when i saw them live, the song that sounded the best was Just.... which had never really stood out to me. but jonny's guitar cut through the massive crowd and moved the earth under me and i felt like I was on the stage hearing it
You see Colin jumping at the end of the vid? They just kicked sooo much ass and he knows it. I love to watch Colin, grateful and humble. Class act Radiohead. These guys move mountains.
This is actually my SECOND favorite performance of this...my favorite being San Francisco '98...Thom seems to clearly be some sort of nervous breakdown, but the way he alters the vocal melody to hit these soaring notes (which is also done here, but less high and less consistently) makes i amazingly epic. Part of what makes this version compete, though is it's a lot less basy and clear...that could just be the wuality of the '98 booteg, but I'm pretty sure they just had the bass-end cranked up for that performance of PT
i hope they start putting songs from the bends in their modern playlists and start letting jonny free associate all over them in the most devastating fashion
I COMPLETELY AGREE....i was watching this concert of theirs from 1995 where they played a lot of songs from Pablo Honey...and i was like MY GOD....it was so guitar oriented....Jonny beat the SHIT outta his guitar....no wonder he needed that wrist thingy.....Im in LOVE with In Rainbows...and the rest of their albums of course....but i do miss that GUITAR.
i like their early live performances more than their more recent ones. the ones now are too synthy. though videotape is waaaay more awesome live than on record

Wow never saw video of them onstage before (from the songwriting era of theirs that I loved the most). In the big arena rock plane of performance...U2 Bono and the Edge step to the rear of the stage..these guys' much heavier skills just blow you off the stage
It's the 3 guitar player trick, the guy w/ the stratocaster, sorry, forget his name.. is playing the whammy bar, Johnny is doing keys at beginning and end w/ vibrato, also seems he's using the guitar amp vibrato in sync with whammy player.
@slitheringinterstate they were at their creative peak as rock singers around the time this stuff came out (The Bends). They chose a different path as more "electronic" style later on. Their rock hasn't gotten much better than this stuff in my opinion but you can't ever really even compare their "electronic" style music with their guitar rock so much because they are stylistically very different. I myself prefer their guitar rock.
In Rainbows is insanely great. 4 Minute Warning is the best I've heard. The whole album seems like this journey towards a long-awaited and comfortable death, which is summed up in 4 Min Warning.
the intro to this song is used for the intro to a program on the cbc.. just like the chorus guitar riff over and over again.. so like in canada eh? lol...
this is the shit...these guy are pissed off on this tune....they're just pushing it over the top...just killing it....nobody can play in their sand box...they dont f- around...I mean this is mean...killer.
@yeahyeahyaha2 It's a 72 Deluxe Tele with custom electronics. I read somewhere it was stolen which is why he doesn't use it anymore. But I dunno if that's true or not.
I was wrong, he's doing a vibrato bend on the g string at the 10th fret and holding low octave A string 8th fret then decending octave F, E, D... other guitarist matches with whammy bar, im a guitarist, check my video JOHNNY CRASH HEY KID PROMO 1990
3:59 love how Colin knows that was an unreal performance.
seems like he's their biggest fan
is by far the best version of planet telex that i ever heard
It was in France, I still have the VHS at home.
corgan59 really? why don't you upload it?

corgan59 Anyway thanks for taking the time to reply. There is a recording of the show on yt but it's missing some songs I guess...
The closest that Radiohead has been to shoegaze...
Tbf the guitar in optimistic reminds me of mbv’s loomer lol

WHAT AN OPENING TRACK ON WHAT I BELEIVE IS THEIR BEST ALBUM!!!
Best is OK, computer, new century bitch
Kid A or hail to the thief?anyone
Marc Domicello Yes!! The Bends is my favourite too, sooooo underrated!!
They're all great albums
insanely incorrect but ok

Planet Telex is the first track where RH sounds like OK Computer… you can clearly see it here
yeah i love it when colin smiles and jumps after a concert, so cute
I love the outro. I wish it were longer. I could listen to that riff all day.
For some reason, I would really like to hear Radiohead cover the song 'Strawberry Fields Forever'.
I feel like Radiohead and the Beatles would mix really well
One of the best performances of Planet Telex I've seen. Thanks!
Sign'd.
They knew then they were in for big things down the road. Incredibly confident performance.

When they recorded this they were hammered.... everything in the recording studio was broken...and they were getting pissed off
Ed really makes this song.
That outro is probably their best work from the 90's.
Another interesting thing about Ed is his work on Airbag and the rhythm on Paranoid Android.
Thom looks like the "YOU WOT M8?!" kid here, hahaha.
TheEndTrend He does. 😂
I keep playing this over and over. Can't get over how good it is.
He plays pretty aggressively, and at least in the 90's he kind of wore out his arm doing it, so he'd sometimes wear that brace on his arm to combat his repetitive strain injury.
Planet telex is a treasure that nobody knows about!

@@PatoNani18 I agree and the perfect song to be introduced to them, a mix of rock and subtility.
so perfect i cry
I don't think that this will ever stop being my favorite song.
man i love planet telex
Me too silly clown🥺
@@Blahajfromscotland08 NO U WEREN’T SUPPOSE TO SEE THIS
One of the best openings of the album!
Who needs drugs when you can watch this performance and be taken to the highest levels of the astral plane? Pure ecstasy.
Kickass, break-out performance by Ed O'Brien starting at 01:46. Thanks for the tip!
Check out their Astoria gig 1994. Thom apologises for the new material! Classic.

Brilliant start ...greatness began here.
I believe this song is about anxiety
no its about when you go into a room and forget why you went
get into the next Im thinking. Best start to an album of all time
when i saw them live, the song that sounded the best was Just.... which had never really stood out to me. but jonny's guitar cut through the massive crowd and moved the earth under me and i felt like I was on the stage hearing it
every opener they've had has been amazing! pakt like sardines kicks, but 15 steps kicks harder!
You see Colin jumping at the end of the vid? They just kicked sooo much ass and he knows it. I love to watch Colin, grateful and humble. Class act Radiohead. These guys move mountains.
god that tremolo effect is so badass

Fantastique.
J'adore le son de 90's rock.
This song's live version is a recent discovery and has been playing frequently in my head.
Paul
i hope they start putting songs from the bends in their modern playlists and start letting jonny free associate all over them in the most devastating fashion
Ed O Brian gets the underappreciated arpeggio duty.
I wonder how good he would be if let loose on a solo
sounds like a weirdly hymn like song, bc of the chord sequence but it adds the minor f, so awesome
Ahhh this band is everything
Perfection 😊. The bends baby!
