Lucid is doing a massive update of its software that will roll out over four OTA downloads. Since it's such a massive project, they are being very conservative by rolling it out first to 100 early buyers who are active on forums so that they can catch bugs and get feedback on new features before they release to a broader audience. Thus far only two of the four releases associated with this rewrite have been issued to the first 100 users. (I am one of them and just got my second download this morning. A few forum administrators have gotten further releases, and some of what Kyle is seeing on Twitter and the forums probably comes from them.) Even with only two of the downloads released, the software features and functioning are much improved . . . but the enhanced ADAS features of DreamDrive Pro will only come with the next two releases.

One suggestion if I may. The sound quality can sometimes be lacking with a lot of background noise especially when you’re in the car! There’s a lot of low-end booming going on.

I've been waiting for this one.
5,000 miles on my Air GT w/ 21s. I just got back from a week on the road, much of that time tearing up Arkansas Ozark twisty roads. I did not experience the TC intrusiveness that you did but my setup and driving differed. Rather than high regen I prefer low regen for spirited driving. (EDIT: also dropped tires to 39PSI cold) This allows me to trail brake into turns, preloading the front. Excessive high regen also adds load to the cooling system. For whatever reason, driving like this did allow the rear to rotate, but I wasn't going for showboat drifting so I don't know if TC would have reined me in.
Love the car. You can really feel that it was built by 'car people'.

Better than a Tesla? Or even a Tesla Sapphire? That's one of their popular models of theirs.
What about any of Lucid Air's autopilot or some other feature of theirs also?
Does it actually have an automatic parallel parking system on board available?
What about its powered optional sun shade on its glass roof area?
I heard its system automatically detects whenever the driver starts to back up.
So it'd be unlikely for the driver to accidentally slam into the car in front of him/her.
What about the EV's battery production system?
Its capability whenever the weather's cold.
      Or hot.
      Or when it's rainy.
What's the range on those things travelling at long car trips?
Can its system also detect when a driver is getting tired, and already has been on the road?
Or when the power is about is low,and has a warning system in place, that lets the driver know when it's time for a charge.
      But there's not one nearby?

@@Randytherumbler This looks like a troll post but I'll replay for anyone who is interested.
The Sapphire is a Lucid, not Tesla.
Lucid offers all the ADAS that you will find on better cars, from smart speed limit aware cruise control to automatic emergency braking, blind spot assist, automatic parking, automatic wipers that actually work, etc.
Yes, the rear window sun shade automatically retracts when in reverse and redeploys afterward.
Lucids have the longest range and some of the largest car batteries in the market. Weather impacts all cars, but I have experienced no issues in my Lucid, going when and where I want. The 900v Lucid battery has the fastest real world charging available today.
Yes, Lucids have driver monitoring. If I get drowsy on a long trip it will tell me that I need to stop for a break.
Lucid's long range means I never get so low on charge that I get worried. I especially like that I have the range to get to remote locations where the fun roads are.

One of the early software problems the Lucid had was the bass cutting out. We experienced this numerous times in our Lucid Air Dream Edition, as well as sound stage collapse. However, recent software updates seem to have resolved these problems.
We also have a 2021 Model S Plaid, and we find the sound system in the Air to be much better -- in the right conditions. By this I mean when the software has not glitched, and when using premium source material, such as Tidal HiFi. As with other high-end sound systems, the Lucid's tends to be less forgiving with poor source material and can actually sound worse with such material than a less-sophisticated system. However, with a true high-fidelity source, this is the best sound system I've ever heard in a car.

Thanks for the comprehensive review of the Lucid Air. I like your insights, but am less interested in your personal preferences. You seem to discount the safety considerations baked into the car such as pedal response in Smooth mode. Perhaps because you don't live in a city, you don't realize that Lucid was very wise to make a person think twice before entering Swift mode and in delaying full power from a stop. Many times the car in front will start forward only to hesitate before accelerating. Lucid's programing makes it less likely you'll slam into the car in front. Most of us buying this car, are not looking for a sports sedan. We want a long range cruiser that is quiet, comfortable, fast and safe.

It's being done in four separate releases. I'm one of the 100 owners who are receiving the updates first so that Lucid can get feedback and catch bugs before the general release to all owners. The releases started arriving at my car three days ago, and I'm downloading the fourth release right now. These releases bring most of the DreamDrive Pro ADAS features online, and there is an array of other changes/improvements: screen load times much quicker and smoother; some UI controls moved to more convenient positions; headlight auto-dimming, elevation aiming, and corner turn illumination added; seat massage functions enhanced; the Nav system displays expanded and made more flexible. Owners are already reporting considerable improvements in the software.
We also own a 2021 Model S Plaid (replaced our 2015 Model S P90D). I was already liking almost everything about the Air better than the Model S -- especially the interior luxury and room, better build quality, more compliant ride with more precise handling -- and these software updates are finally closing the software gap between Lucid and Tesla.

Question: maybe unrelated to the Lucid you're driving because of missing software but have you seen any phantom braking in this car? I still get PB in my YLR once in awhile and it's seriously dangerous. I tend not to use AP because of that and I have the EAP subscription. It just can really drop from 70 to 50 or lower in a flash. It happened last week on an open road, not a freeway but all lane lines were clear. The guy behind me was following too closely so he had to jump on his brakes and I waved my apology and pulled over to stop in a pullout area. No one seems to be covering this phenomenon under non-FSD driving. Sure I have to stay alert but not for that kind of surprise coming out of nowhere. I regularly tell my friends how great the Tesla driving assist software is but watch out for the PB. Right now I'm not a good salesman for Tesla and they had better fix this problem immediately as it will affect second Tesla buying decisions. Anyway thanks for the great detailed analysis of the Lucid which seems to be not quite ready for prime time in software and in a couple hardware areas; not yet a $135,000 car.

It’s less jarring than you think. The pedal response is really well tuned, and it’s a lot less jerky in Sprint than the Plaid. It *can* be, but once you get used to it it is extremely smooth. In smooth/swift it’s even easier.

We have a Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance and a Tesla Model S Plaid. Perhaps because we've been driving a Tesla since our 2015 Model S P90D and are used to regenerative braking, the drivers in our house don't have any problem with modulating the accelerator pedal to bring either car to a smooth stop. We do it intuitively without even thinking about it. As does Kyle, we prefer to keep both cars in max regen mode.

I have no idea why anyone would overpay to have a car that's underdeveloped and inferior in everyway to a Plaid.
I guess if you wanna waste your 155k on a car that thermal throttles, has a subpar UI, Can't even have full control of the car, and overall no support once you have a problem.

We have a Lucid Air Dream Edition and a Tesla Model S Plaid (replaced our 2015 Model S P90D). The Air is a much more roomy and pleasant car to drive, is considerably better built and free of the creaks and groans that have developed in the Plaid, and the new round of four software updates the Air has received in the past three days has almost completely closed the gap between the software performance of the Plaid and the Air. Our Dream Performance is not quite as quick off the line as the Plaid, but its front end stays much better planted than the Plaid, making its prodigious power more usable on the public roads where we do all our driving.
We are planning to replace our Honda Odyssey minivan with the Lucid Gravity SUV when it comes out. We do not plan to get another Tesla, although I have bought three of them over the past few years.

@@blakespringpasturemortimer9168 Enjoy it while it last the company should be around a couple more years. My Model X Plaid has plenty of room and overall a lot more roomy and comfortable than the lucid I drove.
The trunk on the lucid is so tiny and awkward looking could barely get my luggage in there. The plaid is so much punchier also and does not thermal throttle like the lucid.

@@Json918 You apparently forgot to remove the cover in the trunk and look at the lower compartment of the :Lucid. Between the trunk and the frunk, our Lucid has significantly more cargo space than our Model S Plaid. (The Lucid is a sedan, you know . . . not an SUV like the Model X.)
And apparently you never use the second row seat of your Model X -- you know, that passenger space with no center armrest and no storage pockets anywhere.
Our Air Dream Edition with its 1,111 hp and ferocious torque is plenty "punchy" -- and its suspension is much more planted under hard acceleration than our Model S Plaid. As Conner said in this review, the Lucid chassis is "miles ahead" of the Tesla in sophistication -- and he wasn't even driving a performance version of the Lucid.. (As with our household, he also owns a Model S Plaid and knows whereof he speaks in making such a comparison.)

The reason you can’t get a car from Lucid is because they haven’t made many. The ownership structure of this company, the price of the vehicles and the fact there is zero track history of actually building a mass quantity of vehicles will leave this a boutique money burner.

Hey, I’m not the one flaming here. I have no problem with gas cars; my favorite non-EV to drive is a twin turbo R8. My point was that the argument of “oh EVs aren’t better for the environment because power plants burn coal” is dumb and lacks nuance. Have a nice day.
