  • In today's vlog, I'm explaining how I failed going off the carnivore diet and why I'm restarting. I had a week-long junk food binge and it just isn't worth it. Plus, I have brunch with my friend Abby, make iced coffee (with only one minor kitchen disaster), and cook a roast. Thank you so much for watching!

      As someone with PCOS I can confirm that hormones do play a huge factor in cravings and eating habits. Even though she explained it perfectly and concisely you still commented this ignorantly. Disordered eating CAN be a side effect for some people who have PCOS. You can’t tell a stranger online about something they’ve lived with for over 20 years.

      @@BullyGirlUziI think she just tried to say, Cindy is at the point where she cannot blame only PCOS for her eating struggles, but needs to realize that she developed an ED. Which she clearly struggle to do, since she won’t even get her blood checked, seek the help of a dietician or therapist.
      Edit : also it’s important to keep in mind that she have BPD, so it’s even more of a reason to treat the ED she might have as a separate thing from her PCOS.

      I don't know if she has pcos anymore. It can be reversed just like type 2 diabetes. It's not an incurable disease like HIV or something. The hair loss and hirsutism can be persistent even if hormones are completely normalised, ovulation/cycles are regular, no excessive follicles on ovaries and essentially not meeting criteria of having pcos anymore

      @@BullyGirlUzi It can be both though. I have PCOS as well, and exactly as you said, disordered eating can be a side effect. The comment you're responding to was definitely phrased poorly, but I think it was well intentioned, and the core of it is still true. Cindy herself has said that she has disordered thoughts about food and anxiety around eating carbs. She herself said that the carnivore diet was not healthy for her. She acknowledged that she has an unhealthy relationship with food. I don't think it's right to imply that her PCOS is not contributing, and I'm personally almost positive that it is a factor, but that doesn't mean that her behavior and thought patterns aren't indicative of an ED. It was worded in an insensitive way, but the concern is justified.

      @@soulanstreets Yeah, and I found one that was knowledgeable about PCOS, AND another health condition called gastroparesis, which generally have opposite guidelines for diet. She wasn't a specialist in either, but it was very clear that she understood both of them. And that's saying something because the majority of doctors I've interacted with have never heard of gastroparesis. I'm really sorry that you've had such shitty experiences, and I mean that genuinely. I had good luck with my registered dietician, but I've had terrible luck with many other kinds of specialists who seemed totally clueless about my conditions, and I know how much that sucks and makes you lose all faith in the system. Once you've been burned once, it's easy to develop a distrust towards them. When you've been burned repeatedly like that, it's easy to feel like they're all like that. So I really do get it. But that doesn't mean that there aren't dieticians who are very knowledgeable on different conditions, including PCOS.

    Some people never drink water (only tea/coffee) and they say "i feel 100% fine, why do i need water?" And when they start trying to drink water they suddenly feel thirsty and say "I drank some water and now i feel thirsty, it didn't help at all. I don't feel thirsty when i drink my tea/coke/coffee".
    They don't understand their bodies' signals. If your body needs carbs and fiber, you start feeling cravings after you eat some carbs. But it doesn't mean your body wants fries, milkshakes and pizzas. You body needs what you're already eating - tomatoes, lettuce, mushrooms, broccoli, maybe nuts and seeds. You should listen to your body, not to your sugar addiction.

    Many, many people suffer insulin resistance from various different illnesses. Yes you may have cravings but the lack of control is completely down to an eating disorder. Stop blaming an illness like pcos which many have but which many control. Eating vegetables doesn't lead to binge eating. Not recognising yourself as a compulsive eater and not fixing your binge eating disorder is the reason behind your problems Cindy. And before anyone says I don't know what I'm talking about, over 12 years ago i compulsively ate whole packets of biscuits and crisps (potato chips) fries, pizzas etc. I had to change my mindset and take responsibility for my own behaviour and then I started eating properly and losing weight which I've maintained ever since. I didn't go super healthy at first but I stopped eating an excessive amount, and another crucial thing which really fixed my cravings and metabolism is what Cindy is unprepared to do and that's serious exercise. Walking isn't serious, I mean lifting weights, getting the heart rate going fast from running, cycling etc. I just wish people would recognize that you can't lose the weight or control yourself until you take responsibility. And despite her words Cindy isn't taking responsibility, she's blaming pcos on her problems. I know a friend with pcos who doesn't compulsively eat and eats carbs, so it's while it's an aspect to be aware of, it's not an excuse

    I say this as someone who has been through this binge-restrict-binge-restrict cycle, with love and reverence for how crappy it feels to be in this state, how hopeless and addicted you can feel: every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Extreme restriction leads to extreme overindulgence. Restricting whole food groups will invariably lead to binging behaviors.
    I say this from one (former!) sufferer to another; I hope you can find peace with food and your body.

    •  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      The logic is that a huge part of it is psychological, which is even harder to manage than hormonal cravings. That's hard to come to terms with, she struggled with that so many years and still doesn't think it's a mental disorder. It's hard to realise you had an ED for years when you are not a skinny person. Spirits don't contain carbohydrate or sugar. Alcohol isn't a carbohydrate, it's a separate macro but it has zero nutritional value apart from calories. It can be converted to fat and glucose, but it's not a carbohydrate. It inhibits your ability to burn fat and messes up your hormones more than carbs though

  • @NanaIsMyNickname
    @NanaIsMyNickname 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +248

    The thing is because you drink alcohol yet don't go in a binge it means it's not JUST a hormonal thing, there is a psychological component to it that seems clear in the way you're speaking about your cravings and you're not addresing it. If the problem was ONLY the sugar, then anything would make you go binge eating, regardless if it's a drink or a food. Maybe if you tried to seek a professional registered dietitian plus a psychologist you could've worked through your cravings more healthly. I imagine people feel mad about the way you talk about the carnivore diet because you refuse to seek actual professional help. I wrote this watching the first part of the video but I waited till I saw the whole thing to see if you were going to adress something about this. I know you go to terapy but it's a BPD specialist so when it comes to diet and cravings maybe you're still not getting the help you need.

    I think your impulsiveness and fear of being plus sized again has brought you here. I would really like to see you speak to a Registered Dietician along with your therapist--a care plan can be created that can help you suppress the urges to overeat and you'll grow a comfort level with food. Also, with a high-red meat intake, it may be a good idea to get blood work to see what your levels are looking like--I'm not saying the numbers will be bad, but you'll be more informed with how the diet is actually treating your body. Losing weight doesn't always mean healthier, as I'm sure you know, I just want you to treat your body well.

Restricted eating is truly unhealthy. You need to heal your head not just body. Your binging maybe partially hormonal but it’s also a side effect of restrictive eating. If you healed your head around food and seek counseling around it you wouldn’t have binges from being restrictive. You should also consider putting a trigger warning on your videos like this because anyone in your audience with an ED or food struggles can be triggered by this. Which I may have to step back for a minute just until your videos aren’t strictly about food and dieting

It can show up with eating, drinking, excessive spending, big impulse purchases, and other ways. Now I am not in a position to diagnose you, but talking to a professional about this can help you get answers and make strides in the right direction.

    It sounds like you have a lot of mind work that needs to be done. I lost 130 lbs, but then gained a lot back because I hadn’t done the work on my mind. Did all the nutrition work, but the mind work is where your long-term success is going to come from. I also have PCOS. There are ways to control the intense hunger feeling, you’re not just a slave to your PCOS as you’re making yourself believe. Working with a registered dietician/nutrition counsellor and a company that makes pre-set meal plans that work with your hormones is a thing. There are lots of pre-made meal delivery services, then you don’t have to think about what to eat, you just eat what is on your plan and what you have been delivered for food, everything else is off limits. That way, you aren’t deciding what to eat and making bad choices, the choices are already made. Of course, psychological counselling is paramount and can help with stress of medical conditions, and how to work through them while reaching your goals.

Also, supplement around 10-15% above that, because not everything will be absorbed. This should be enough to keep your body going.
    Also, what made you lose a lot of weight at the beginning was way bigger calorie treshold along with physically carrying your weight. I lost 101 lbs counting calories and eating a diet that was healthy for me (238 to 137 lbs) and it solved all of the medical issues I was having; my blood pressure was excellent, my cholesterol profile fantastic, blood sugar was the same. My fatty liver healed. Everything was so great (and I lost the weight from the ages of 50-52). During the time I was losing, I avoided all sugar (had none in my apt) and also simple carbohydrates which are processed in the body like sugar. I cooked everything at home. Once I lost the weight, I thought it would be okay to incorporate a little sugar back into my diet here and there... NOPE. Over a 2-year period, I quietly slid back into a situation where I was literally binging on sugar. Luckily, I stopped before too much damage was done, but it is even more clear to me now that I need to avoid all sugar in processed form (I still eat whole berries and sweet potatoes). I can't have it around me at all. It's just the way it is for me.

I think that is why you're better on carnivore, it's a control thing! As long as you are healthy, I'm happy for you. And I understand!

    Well..go ahead and eat the way u want..it's your body. You say this like you are scolding people..I get it..I have a sugar addiction too. Just do what u like..see the Dr and do blood work and see if your body's functioning at a normal level and then stay on what your comfortable with.

      Your body stores carbs as fat...

    • @marta9854
      @marta9854 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@harper_anne2089 yeah, I’ve heard great things about the carnivore diet, such as it helps with lowering inflammation with the body too! But it’s also high fat. My body type loves to store fat, so I’ve ever tried it it would have to be lean meats. However, I also don’t get the cravings for sugars. :/ I find Cindy super relatable because so many struggle with their diets and it’s hard to find that balance of of what works for you. I think people give her a hard time b/c of the fast food, but she’s right that it’s not processed and it 100% beef. ( if you don’t believe that then bring it up with the FDA 😂) I still think it’s better to cook yourself, but I still get my Starbucks so who am I to judge. I wish you the best tho! Try talking to a dietician. They’re actual doctors that can tell you what to eat and your macros etc depending on your struggle.❤️

    • @marta9854
      @marta9854 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lil-al no, my body doesn’t, however sugar is a type of carb. I stay away from processed sugars. I mostly eat sweet potatoes and bread, but mostly lean protein.But it’s correct that sugar is addictive. However, if you have a lot of lean muscle and low body fat , if you eat carbs around your workout it releases quick glucose in your blood stream that your body goes to for fuel and energy. However, if your body can’t find fat for fuel it burns muscle instead. In Cindy’s case when she eats carbs her insulin ( maybe other hormones as well) spike too high. There is a lot that goes into it. It really depends on several factors like muscle mass, body fat ( which even “skinny” people can have a high body fat%), hormonal receptors like insulin, cortisol, etc, inflammation, genetics… there is so much.

    😢 I do this. I compare myself to my past self and wonder how she did it, etc. I have PCOS and I no longer have a thyroid due to my thyroid deciding it was cool to start growing 3cm growths on it. 😅 In 2020 I was 170lbs and I felt “healthy” and “in control”. Now I think I’m 200 (again). Before starting antidepressants I was constantly thinking that I was happier at 170 and I had more energy, etc. Those things MAY be true but what I think was happening is I was less focused on the numbers (weight, clothing size, etc.) and more focused on self care and being mindful. It’s hard! I’ve never been able to explain my hunger in words but the way you did here is my experience. If I don’t eat until I’m full I’m still hungry… 😢 Anyways. I found you through the sims and I’m sad you’re not playing it anymore. 😢 I hope you’re doing okay. Be more nice to yourself you deserve it.

    Hi Cindy I'm on the medication mounjaro right now for the food noise. I also have insulin resistance. It has helped my cravings, sugar especially, SO much. I'm not a binge eater but I think it helps with that as well. Have you considered talking to your dr about a GLP-1 medication? Have you been tested for genetic obseity markers? I'm getting that done soon as well and there is a medication to combat that as well, Imcivree, but I dont know much about it . What a place to be in, I'm so sorry!!!

    Good idea to have some grab and eat carnivore things like deviled eggs and cheese so while you are still getting cravings for sweets, you can just grab a deviled egg or cheese or cold meat to get you over the hump bc when a craving hits, there's no time to cook something.
    Cindy, I know how you feel. Once you add in more and more carbs, the uncontrollable cravings come back like an alcoholic who's been sober for a year and thinks one beer on Sat. nights are fine, that they can handle it. And the drinking keeps gaining momentum from that one beer to several over the weekends till finally they're downing a fifth or two of vodka daily.
    People who don't have a problem with carbs cannot understand that a "balanced" diet won't work.
    Some of us can handle veggies and a bit of fruit, others only the lowest carb veggies and no fruit, and still others can't handle any carbs, not even a salad. Some of us can handle some hard liquor with a sugar-free mixer like a Jack and Diet Coke, some can't drink at all. Some of us can handle using artificial sweeteners and diet sodas, others can't even handle that because some people are super-sensitive to just the taste of sweetness even if has no carbs or calories.
    You do have psychological problems like you've shared with us, but IMO I think your getting to the point of a carb/sugar/junk food binge is physical.
    Of course it wouldn't hurt to tell your therapist to get strategies on handling the cravings until you get to the point of your body becoming craving-free once again after a week or two back on carnivore.
    2018 I lost about 70 pounds eating keto. Mainly meat, fish, fowl, dairy along with low-carb veggies in the form of salads and cauliflower rice, occasionally berries. No cereals, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, beets, carrots and any other veggies that might be as carby as beets. I drank water, diet coke, Sparkling Ice flavored water, and vanilla vodka with diet coke when out dancing at the bar once a week.
    I felt wonderful a month into keto. No more cravings, all my aches and pains were gone and I don't think I had even lost 10 pounds at that point so that wouldn't explain my aches and pains disappearing.
    And then the pandemic hit and all the lockdowns, restrictions, 24/7 news about it, no one IRL seemed able to talk about anything else. And I just dove back into eating nothing but junk food and gained all the weight back due to being all nerved up over the pandemic. And I am still stuck in eating this way. I know all I have to do is eat keto for a week or two and I'd be back to losing weight and being pain-free and cravings-free. I will start again in a month once my houseguest goes back home. It will be easier once I can have a "clean fridge and pantry" again. Right now the house is full of food they eat which is all carbs.

    Also I don't think you should look at it as a failure. That junk food binge week sounded delicious, and if you get back on track, cheat days/weeks can be a thing.
    I mean, it sure is a failure when it comes to the common diet not being for you, but don't feel bad for indulging in that grease and sugar for a little while. You had a TOUGH few years.

    I just feel like this is the perfect time to let you know just how much you mean to me and how grateful I am for you!!
    See, suddenly and unexpected my precious husband went to bed one night and passed away in his sleep. I only had 27 years with my Joey. I promise you, that truly wasn't long enough! I'm not doing ok, and I'm working on myself with 2 psychologists and a psychiatrist. I say all this, bc I've become a total recluse. But watching you (I'm SO grateful I found you... not sure how but glad I did!) has been such a wonderful find!! You say things that I understand and just listening to you sometimes is all I need!!
    So, thank you for being here and being so honest!
    Blessings to you across the miles! 🍂🌻🍁🍂🌻🍁

I also don't and I overeat on sweets before my period. However please consult RD and talk about BED with your therapist. You saw yourself this diet made you deficient, sick, bruised easily and missed out on life. Everybody can fuck up with food ED are terrible and I understand PCOS also makes you more proun to gaining weight etc. But you need fiber, vitamins, carbs etc to live. I understand the guilt and need for Control. But It is not healthy Cindy. To anybody struggle with ED you deserve to eat, you deserve to nourish your body even when you come of the rails.
