Balance in this film doesnt just refer to the monsterverse "kaiju-Humanity" or "Humanity-Nature" kind of balance but also refers to balance in Kens life wich is the most important balance in the movie Ken needs to balance his baseball carer with his responsability as ultraman, his role as a parent figure to Emi, his familial bonds with his dad and even his own emotions, and by the end of the film he manages that Its not just about balance with nature, its about finding balance in ones own life
Also, it might be a subtle reference to Ultra Q's working title "Unbalance". Ultraman Neos also referenced the working title with the "Unbalanced Zone", a dark matter field that awakens monsters on Earth
Thanks for the lovely review. So happy you enjoyed the film. I can confirm that we DID NOT use any mocap in the film. We just had incredible animators and constantly reminded them to draw from real life.
This movie is a great way to get kids into the Ultraman franchise and other giant monster franchises as a whole. I hope we get more animated kaiju projects in the near future. They don't have to be connected to their live action counterparts either and instead be their own thing.
Good God, this movie is phenomenal. This is one of those kaiju movies similar to Pacific Rim and Godzilla King Of The Monsters where it just gets better and better the more I watch it. It's phenomenally written and the animation... wow... good God the animation is glorious. I love this movie, so much. Also this is the third major kaiju movie in a row that has major themes and story aspects relating to fatherhood. I don't hate it, but it's just something I noticed.
For ultramen being able to talk, most of the New Generation Series (2013 onwards) Or even the entire Zero Saga (2009-2013) had this element, so perhaps they are worth a shot for you to watch?
You know what this movie really reminded me of when I watched this? Godzilla: King Of The Monsters 2019! Godzilla: KOTM was not just any movie it was a blockbuster filled with passion, creativity, and above all else respect to the entire Godzilla franchise everything the characters, music, scenery it was just a huge respectful love letter to Godzilla’s Legacy and at the time 65+ history Of The King Of The Monsters! Ultraman: Rising is the equivalent to Godzilla: King Of The Monsters 2019 but for Ultraman there are familiar monsters, the soundtrack hints Ultraman’s original theme, Ultraman uses some of his original powers and just like Godzilla: KOTM 2019 the movie flourishes and expands the references to Ultraman’s franchise magically! I am a little bit new to the world of Ultraman I’ve only seen a couple of movies about him like Shin Ultraman and The Ultraman Mebius series but I do know this for sure this movie was such a awesome film!
My love of Kaiju started in the late 60s with Ultraman. A friend and I would rush home (his or mine) from school, to tune into the UHF Japanese Language channel from San Francisco to watch Ultraman (even though we never understood a word of what they were saying). And soon I'd discover Godzilla on Bob Wilkins "Creature Features". Soon I'm sure I'm going to enjoy this too. As always, thank you so very much for the videos.
Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for the kind words! Please keep an eye out for the video I upload tomorrow! I'll be covering my favorite track from the film! You did an incredible job.
I think one of the first time a Ultra would talk who is be in the new gen shows like Ginga and geed and in the topic this is like top 3 Ultraman shows/media
Ultraman Jack, The 4th overall Ultra show was the inspiration for Rising not to have the Beta Capsule as Hideki Go used his will power to transform. As an Ultraman Diehard, this movie was fantastic and I hope for a trilogy.
Genuinely such a beautiful movie. I didn’t expect to resonate with it as much as I did but it’s powerful in its themes of family and the core relationship between father and son. Easily one of the best of the year. Was actually my first piece of ultra media so now I wanna eventually watch the 66 series.
Okay.. you talked me into watching it😂 I’m old enough to remember the early Ultraman and really didn’t like it. Like you mentioned it was just hard to connect to the character for myself. Lack of emotional output unlike the Godzilla movies which were more fun as he emoted all over the place.
Actually, the human form and the Ultra being the same being is not new. It was first done by Ultraseven the very next series after the original 1966 Ultraman. Also, Ultraman Jack (whose series is the one after Ultraseven ) could transform without using an item.
@@ShinKaijuPrince That's weird! I remember Ultraman Z's device looked super different. Or maybe it was a bad guy he fought that had a full brass knuckles-looking thing.
@DMan1954 Most of the recent transformation items are really complex compared to early ones using all manner of bits and pieces, this is normally so they can be sold as toys with "play features" that can be sold separately like the Ultra medals for Ultraman Z's Z Riser but back when Return of Ultraman( Jacks show) was made they probably didn't think of merchandising the transformation items so they omitted it altogether.
Well, that’s the first thing off my list I made on your community post a few days ago to happen 😂 And it’s good to see you back in camera shots again too 😄
ngl i've heard of ultraman but never saw it, and i still love this. you don't have to know much about it to enjoy the film, but something very important to find out is that ultraman IS an alien. so his (and by virtue his son Kenji aka our MC) place as a hero is to care about life. and in this movie specifically, it is NOT a human vs kaiju (monsters) story. because ultraman is not human, instead he just cares about all life in general. which is why ken is told by his dad to find balance because he's supposed to care about humans AND kaijus, and just step in when these kaijus end up wrecking the city. but they're just like dangerous animals, dangerous to be around but their instincts aren't reason for us to extinguish all of them. it's a really unique take on a kaiju movie and I actually really like it. it's also really modern and by that i mean how in our day and age, a lot of old shows have dated views. and since we have all seen these tropes of black and white good and bad, a lot of modern media picks apart these ideals and virtues. often giving evil characters more complex backstories or giving them more compassionate stories. and more media now subverts these old tropes into something completely different
I do have to say this USA (a.k.a. American) adaptation of this Japanese Media Franchise is a lot better than Hannah Barbera’s TV cartoon adaptation of Godzilla, even though I should be lucky that I have never seen that show as a kid. But, the only thing that I am grateful for is that I have finally binged watched most of the other tokusatsu media franchises from the 1970’s to the 1990’s in which I was recently experiencing not too long ago: Kamen Rider, Super Sentai and the Metal Heroes series are what introduced me to Japanese Pop Culture from the footages of Saban’s entertainment properties, when Fox had a favorite children’s block of mine back then.
Ultraman Rising is not only one of the best movies I seen of this year, but best Netflix Kaiju Media out of all of them, it even puts a Anime Ultraman Series and Godzilla Singular Point to shame.
If you liked this film, I recommend checking out Ultraman Z next. It's the closest live-action analogue to Rising I can think of, and it's just a peak show in general. It has hot-blooded giant robot action, serious themes about the morality of taking lives, and one of the best dynamics between Ultra and host. It's free to legally watch on TH-cam as well, and even has an excellent English dub
I LOVED Ultraman Rising, it was really good however I don't like the art style of the humand they looks a little weird..a little bug like. I do like the art style for everything else. I love the kaiju designs. Emmy was SOO cute 😭😭😭😭😭 I'm excited for number 2. I watched Netflix Ultraman late last year and I LOVED it.
Between Godzilla X Kong, Godzilla minus one, and this movie, I would like to say we are eating good as kaiju fans. All these films have quality to them and we’re all really enjoyable.
@@DMan1954 I remember a line from the movie where Ken's dad tells him that his mother taught him what it means to "be human", could straight up be that his dad's from M87.
@@tokuwriter2872 I don't like/love the Monsterverse for a different because it's becoming like the MCU. I hate Ultraman Rising because the writing and its art style look terrible. Ultraman: Rising is easily the best American Adaptation of Ultraman thus far.
Have there been others?
Just powered i think
Yeah, The Adventure Begins and The Ultimate Hero.

I really hope we get more movies like this within the genre. Especially a Godzilla movie or gamera movie in this animation style would be amazing
Couldn't agree more. We still need a good movie for the Power Rangers too.
We need a sequel with that post-credit scene!
YES PLEASE!!!!
A godzilla movie featuring his old enemys and allies with this style would be peak🔥🔥🔥
Well I think the movie is so goddamn AWESOME my favourite part where Emi the kaiju DID THE GODZILLA DANCE I freaked out after that scene lmao 😂
We might not have gotten it in New Empire but we sure as hell got it in Rising
