People complaining about Ultraman having no origin story should also realize the main series is very based on vibes alot of the time, origins are either hastily written to make way for the plot, or sometimes just shrouded in mystery.
For further context, this wasn't even made as an Ultraman movie in the first place. It was made as a labor of love for the ip, but it was supposed to have Ken be a sentai/Ultraman inspired superhero. The plot would have been the same. Just like Guillermo Del Toro, it was picked up by netflix, and because they have permission to use Ultraman, it was turned into an official Ultraman movie
That makes so much sense because it could be seen as an Ultraman movie just in name. It’s a very different spin on the character but I want to see more and it may inspire a lot more Ultraman fans
Enjoyed the movie right until the point baby Kaiju was born. Kaiju island really? Felt like I was watching Jurassic world. The 2 season netflix anime was just so much better.
Except the army doc ends up becoming a worse big bad than the average Ultraman villain - I mean, he fired up a self destruct so powerful that it would have erased the entire japanese coastline... that means at least three big cities. On the topic of Kenji’s relationship with his dad: I feel like their relationship is not only about understanding that our parents are human and don’t always have it figured out but for parents to understand how important it is to be present physically and keeping open and honest communication with your child is. A lot of the tension between the two men comes from the fact that Kenji doesn’t know that his father has been watching over him the whole time and had been looking for his wife just like Kenji was. He can’t get back the years of no communication or visits but he had the opportunity to tell Kenji everything and didn’t until he had no choice, instead he accepted the backlash because he understood Kenji’s pain. Your kids only know the you they see and interact with. They don’t know your past or who you are unless you tell them
Honestly, this feels like, the antithesis of Minus One: first we have a reflection of history, in all of its horror and loss, a reflection of the past deeds of humanity, and how we need to fear what new power we’ve come to harness. Meanwhile, with Ultraman, it creates an idea of hope for the future. It reflects on what it means to progress, what it means to understand monsters, both literary and psychologically. We shall never forget the past, and we can hope and work towards the future, and instead of power creating new horrors, we can create better things, and that starts in the reflections we create in our fiction. From the horrors of war embodied in the radioactive titan, to the familial and innocence of the future embodied in a mother and child.

I agree with you, it's really important to have more positive representation of fathers - they're crucial in a child's development, and in my eyes, are as important as the mothers. I was questioning why was I crying with a child’s and family movie. I’m not a mom, but Ami was such a incredibly written character even though she was a secondary character 🥺. As I said before I’m not a parent, I’m a teenager but her speech really touches my heart when she says: “it would be a moment when they don’t want toys anymore”. It reminds me that we grow up so fast and sometimes this growing won’t let us enjoy those moments until we realize that childhood doesn’t have a Time Machine to come back. I also noticed that Ken has a really egocentric attitude and personality (that Ami confirmed in the second interview). Because he was vulnerable in his childhood and didn’t saw much attention from his father or after his mother disappeared. So when he “gave them something to talk about” he just wanted to show people how strong he was but in the inside he was feeling lonely. He really hates when people think he can’t handle anything, so he is scared to ask for help. When he gets it tries to act normal but he (again sorry 😭 not enough connectors) is anxious in the inside, this is showed by Ami in the interview when Ken moves constantly his leg and arm, moves things stares nervously while overthinking, like if he’s being exposed by a interviewer showed (as I said before) vulnerable or little in a big responsable world. To conclude the end of his ego and relations with others is like a symbol of maturity and mental health cure, with also factors like Mina’s being shutdown and Emi’s growth 😢 Loved this movie and the animation had me crying for days😅 (sorry for long text and bad redacted or orthographic English is not my birth language) 😖
This was the perfect balance between fantasy and reality. A lot of movies get too hung up on the powers or origins of the heroes, and everything else gets underserved. This gives you just enough context so you can focus on the characters without any lingering questions.

This movie is on my top 10 list, it’s so good. I want it nominated for the Oscars it’s so good.
this movie reminds me of the emotions i felt when i watched into the spiderverse for the first time. it's a nice modern twist on a superhero and it portrays an amazing message that both serves a great motive for the movie AND a meta narrative for us the viewers. Miles Morales is a black teenager boy who takes over being Spiderman, from Peter Parker a white man. The Spiderman series is about how anyone could be spiderman, they just have to be brave enough to wear the mask. Kenji Sato is ultraman's son, unempathic to most things in his life, only caring about his mom and baseball. He steps up to be Ultraman, a superhero who fights Kaiju. And then he's forced to raise a kaiju as his own child, giving him something else to care about in a world where he doesn't care about many things, especially not kaijus. both of these could've just been reboots of what has already been done before. Just turn those old stories into a new animation format and they do that and SO much more. They go above and beyond just having the title of an old superhero. They use these old superheroes to create a familiar but ENTIRELY NEW story.
The aspect i love the most about this movie is that we don't have a "bad guy" the kdf serves it's purpose as a defense organisation against the kaiju not some plot to be an organisation that takes over the world. Because we see the film through the perspective of the ultras we know that the gigatron isn't bad she's just protecting her egg. Imagine if we don't get to see it through the eyes of the ultras and saw it through the kdf, we just found an egg that belongs to a horrifying monster that could destroy our city. We bring it back and think of a way to use it but then the mother attack us during transportation. Then Ultraman showed up but rather being the protector we know Ultraman suddenly protect the monster that caused pain and suffering to the people of the city. From the kdf and people in the city perspective ultraman is siding with the bad guy aka the monster. This film draw a silver lining between good and bad because you can't point to the kdf and say they're the bad guy without some pointing at Ultraman and the monster saying they're the bad guy
I never watched Ultraman. But this movie was just amazing. The animation, I looked up the references and seen the love it had, and the story. Just amazing. Just as you said, I just tuned into the world of Ultraman, just seeing how Ultraman is so loved and cared for. I'm tempted to get into Ultraman and fully learn and experience what made Ultraman so ultra
I wrote a fanfiction and it’s posted on AO3 rn with over 200 kudos (my PB), and the reception has shocked me. I know it’s a new movie so there’s very few fics to go around, I was one of the first to post for this movie alone (not counting the original anime/manga stuff). This movie made me cry and laugh so much. It was so relatable, especially that one montage where Kenji is juggling everything.
@@somethingsomething367 glad you asked! It’s called “Secrets Revealed” on AO3. It’s currently incomplete, but it has 2 complete chapters, the 3rd is barely started, and 5 are planned. Updates are a bit slow as I manage AP summer chaos as a rising senior with burnout, but I hope you enjoy!
I'm going to have to watch this because the animation background is pretty amazing. I saw the retro filter very clever move for an animated film. Negadon did such a method, it wasn't easy.
As my first foray into Ultraman I very much loved this film. It's pretty, and I didn't feel talked down to- I felt respected coming into this. I feel like from subtext and what was straight up told I was never left confused, just amazed and hyped!!
I had no idea Ultraman was its own ip before watching the film. But I think this movie was a great introduction for me, I understood everything that was going on and I have a general idea of who Ultra man is and what his duties should be. The movie felt like a love letter to monster movies to me, and now that I know there's a history of the character it's that much more intriguing to me.
My only real complaint on the movie is that ultraman dyna(asuka) should of been the ultra in the movie since he has more in common with ken sato But I understand how that would not work
@@dannysyarissy9002 yeah I knew that would be the reason Ultraman dyna and the rest of the hesei ultras are fan favorites but are really obscure to anybody else
Great analysis, the movie certainly has a simple coming of age story but full of heart. I really loved the movie, it was cute and had values that both kids and adults can learn from. Only nit picks I have is that the movie can still pretty much work by replacing the ultraman characters/kaiju, wished it focused a bit more on the human characters from the KDF more regarding their feelings on the kaijus and Ultraman as Ultraman is still very much a scifi show rather than just purely a hero show. Could be due to budgeting reasons or simplicity for the family, regardless the movie succeeds in doing what it wants to do. Enjoyable for all, young, old and new fans
I actually would’ve preferred if Ken and his dad didn’t make up that fast. Sure he supported Ken but he did it from afar. And it seemed like his dad didn’t really support him as ultra man, at least to me. But, that’s just me
Dude u neeeeeeed to talk about the series called: Mazinger z he is greatly known around Latin America and Japan in my opinion he one of the first founding fathers of the big Mach genre. And I heard if it wasn't for this series existing around 1972 toei probably wouldn't be here today.
While I’ve seen a lot of hype, I personally think that from what I’ve seen on TH-cam , Ultraman Rising wasn’t my cup of tea. While I do love Godzilla, If I do start watching Ultraman, I’ll probably start with the original or even Shin Ultraman if that’s any good. It looks alright, it’s just not the way I might start my Ultraman phase.
Imagine if this Ultraman met the other Ultraman who got his own Netflix Show as in the guy with the robotic suit and the wannabes who's got the same suit as him?
Might not be a popular opinion but I am not fond of Emi in the earlier part as I think it overtook the attention from the Ultraman and I wished they had done the process of inheriting the Ultraman factor between Ken and his father. Dun deny though that the movie overall is really good, just wish there is more and I hope in the latter sequel, he returns to the states and win the World Series too
I really hope that the success of this movie is strong enough to reach a spike that gets Toku to be adapted more in the Western lands. I would *kill* for an animated Power Rangers series by Flying Bark Productions; _think_ of the _smears!_
Ultraman rising is well.. something. From an ultraman fan perspective, this is nothing like an untraman. It does not feel like it's ultraman for the most part. It even messed some of ultra warriors lore. But that didn't mean I don't like it. In fact, i adore this movie. And the end credit with his watch displaying nebula M78 hyped the heck out of me.
@@somerandomboi7045 It did tho. Ultra giants lifespans are crazy long. But in the movie, sado dad aged like a normal human did. Another thing is the timer. Although this wasn't that important. Honestly Seeing the Ultraman 2.5d anime being nothing like that original ultraman, i kinda expected rising to be just the same. Its good to know Ultraman was in good hands.
It's not a reboot it's an adaptation there is a huge differance between those two thing's also that's not a suit that's his skin and yes Ultraman is naked
I couldn't even notice that this movie was american, this one would be so good as a franchise unlike other american adaptations like the monsterverse. But at the same time, it's good enough to be a stand-alone movie and is very rewatchable because the story is heartbreaking at some parts and the art style is very enjoyable
I really hated the 2 death fakeouts, like, it got so annoying, and took me out of the immersion. Also took importance from the sacrifice and buildup in the bomb scene. Either way pretty good movie.
Naw this is a really good take cause you’re right. I looked past them because the overall concept was great but it does downplay the concept of danger and death in the movie.

@@The1andonlysharpshooter oh my gosh🤣🤭
I never watched Ultraman. But this movie was just amazing. The animation, I looked up the references and seen the love it had, and the story. Just amazing. Just as you said, I just tuned into the world of Ultraman, just seeing how Ultraman is so loved and cared for. I'm tempted to get into Ultraman and fully learn and experience what made Ultraman so ultra
Just finished the movie and I wanna read and watch whatever is cool and is ultraman
Just like me
Great vid, love it and ur background is pure awesomeness
Thank you! I do enjoy just reading some manga and staring at the pops 😅
I feel like this goes without saying, but is the final Ultra Beam this series' version of the Father-Son Kamehameha?
I've really thought about it. But yeah, Ultra man is everywhere. Hell, he even shows up as a Ben 10 alien (Way Big).
Hey bestie can I ask for title pls haha 😔🤲
This movie is really good I was disappointed when it's ended 😭 Need me some more content
This was my whole childhood; ultraman. Glad it's back up again as a movie. I terribly miss it.
idk why im crying even now such a beautiful movie
It was cute as hell
I'm going to have to watch this because the animation background is pretty amazing. I saw the retro filter very clever move for an animated film. Negadon did such a method, it wasn't easy.
Who's done watching this amazing movie👋.
THIS MOVIE IS 💯% DAMN GOOD
It kinda looked like a Dreamkworks movie. Which has pretty great animation.
It's actually the first movie rendered with DreamWorks open source render engine so it makes sense 😂
I watched this with my dad. We loved it!!
Ken also has 2 Dino Thunder Megazord toys, gives me joy
Godzilla : ahhuuaa
Ultraman: shuwatchi
My only real complaint on the movie is that ultraman dyna(asuka) should of been the ultra in the movie since he has more in common with ken sato
But I understand how that would not work
Nah, I don't think new audience knew who Ultraman Dyna is, they wouldn't recognize him. The movie itself is already perfect as it is.
@@dannysyarissy9002 yeah I knew that would be the reason
Ultraman dyna and the rest of the hesei ultras are fan favorites but are really obscure to anybody else
Great video review dude.
And that's why I loved the movie and loved your recommendation!
I loved this film ! Thank you for the recommendation
my husband and older brothers (twins) grew up with Ultraman and Ultraseven they liked it
I actually would’ve preferred if Ken and his dad didn’t make up that fast. Sure he supported Ken but he did it from afar. And it seemed like his dad didn’t really support him as ultra man, at least to me. But, that’s just me
Honestly if this doesn't get a sequel I'm gonna be pissed
Just make sure that disney isnt the one that makes it
Dude u neeeeeeed to talk about the series called: Mazinger z he is greatly known around Latin America and Japan in my opinion he one of the first founding fathers of the big Mach genre. And I heard if it wasn't for this series existing around 1972 toei probably wouldn't be here today.
Ironically enough this movie is making be do a deepdive into Ultraman.
nice video ps you know that titan alien in ben 10
literally know nothing about ultraman and prefer godzilla honestly yet this is my favorite movie ever
I can’t believe Taihei Ohtani was secretly Ultraman
While I’ve seen a lot of hype, I personally think that from what I’ve seen on TH-cam , Ultraman Rising wasn’t my cup of tea. While I do love Godzilla, If I do start watching Ultraman, I’ll probably start with the original or even Shin Ultraman if that’s any good. It looks alright, it’s just not the way I might start my Ultraman phase.
I never thought I be interested in Ultraman or any Tokusatsu superhero but that trailer got me thinking
1:30 SNAKES ARE EVIL
One of the many reasons is that they are naturally born sociopaths also they are snakes
Shaaatt, I thought he just stepped on one big pile of...
Imagine if this Ultraman met the other Ultraman who got his own Netflix Show as in the guy with the robotic suit and the wannabes who's got the same suit as him?
that KDF assistant guy is just a prick
finished watching the movie I loved this
Might not be a popular opinion but I am not fond of Emi in the earlier part as I think it overtook the attention from the Ultraman and I wished they had done the process of inheriting the Ultraman factor between Ken and his father. Dun deny though that the movie overall is really good, just wish there is more and I hope in the latter sequel, he returns to the states and win the World Series too
I really hope that the success of this movie is strong enough to reach a spike that gets Toku to be adapted more in the Western lands. I would *kill* for an animated Power Rangers series by Flying Bark Productions; _think_ of the _smears!_
such a good movie

Ultraman rising is well.. something. From an ultraman fan perspective, this is nothing like an untraman. It does not feel like it's ultraman for the most part. It even messed some of ultra warriors lore. But that didn't mean I don't like it. In fact, i adore this movie. And the end credit with his watch displaying nebula M78 hyped the heck out of me.
It didnt really mess up the lore
@@somerandomboi7045 It did tho. Ultra giants lifespans are crazy long. But in the movie, sado dad aged like a normal human did. Another thing is the timer. Although this wasn't that important. The reason the timer only last for 3 minutes of ultra giants biology is not suitable in earth atmosphere which can kill them if they still more than 3 minutes in their Ultraman form. This is stated in tiga and also showed in Ultraman Arc.
@drfuzion6779
> Ultra giants lifespans are crazy long. But in the movie, sado dad aged like a normal human did
that's less of a mess up and more of a nitpick also the ultras in the mainline series also age like normal humans as evident with their human forms they can live longer sure but they can age, again it's a nitpick and not anything lore messing
>Although this wasn't that important. The reason the timer only last for 3 minutes of ultra giants biology is not suitable in earth atmosphere which can kill them if they still more than 3 minutes in their Ultraman form. This is stated in tiga and also showed in Ultraman Arc.
yeah and you know what else? some ultras dont have the 3 minute time limit like gaia agul and blazer, the beeps only happens when they received too much damage, this is the movie trying something new with the franchise it isnt anything lore messing when the og lore itself tries out different things
@@somerandomboi7045 ok, thank you for the explanation. I didn't even mean it as negative connotation. You do you.
@drfuzion6779 oh I didn't think you were being negative but yeah you're welcome
Now we need a Godzilla movie in that style and a crossover
Wait what? Good movies in 2024? I never could have guessed!
I saw this movie yesterday and it’s pretty good. I like power rangers and movies like this gives me hope for a power rangers animated series
Honestly
Seeing the Ultraman 2.5d anime being nothing like that original ultraman, i kinda expected rising to be just the same.
Its good to know Ultraman was in good hands.
4:27 😍😍
I want a Casshan reboot
Here how they could stop all the Kaijus easily. Make ultra man bigger
I went and watched the movie before i finished it (I loved it)
I fucking loved this movie
Have you seen the cut scene?
I saw it, I gasped and I'm ready for part 2
cool stuff
His dad looks like the lorax
It's not a reboot it's an adaptation there is a huge differance between those two thing's also that's not a suit that's his skin and yes Ultraman is naked
Wait what?
Ultraman Rising going Ultraman Cosmos?
Man, western ultraman fans eating good this year
God bless you. Keep it up bro, Jesus loves you.
I couldn't even notice that this movie was american, this one would be so good as a franchise unlike other american adaptations like the monsterverse. But at the same time, it's good enough to be a stand-alone movie and is very rewatchable because the story is heartbreaking at some parts and the art style is very enjoyable
I love the movie because of emi. She's so cute 🥰
Wow
I really hated the 2 death fakeouts, like, it got so annoying, and took me out of the immersion. Also took importance from the sacrifice and buildup in the bomb scene. Either way pretty good movie.
Naw this is a really good take cause you’re right. I looked past them because the overall concept was great but it does downplay the concept of danger and death in the movie.
if we dont get an ultraman sequel, i WILL riot. netflix better not fuck up.
I’d be bummed they had the end credits for nothing
@@wiresdonttalk me too. i figured they wouldn’t have had that end credit scene if they weren’t planning on making a sequel, but netflix unfortunately has a bad habit of discontinuing really good shows. id hate to see them do that to movies, especially this one.
@@angel-ve6mt Totally agree. I am hoping the love the movie is getting will help because I want to see more!
@@wiresdonttalk maybe if we binge it enough times, netflix will just make another one😂
Much better than Acolyte😂
Inside out 2 is better than both of them
I saw this movie in Netflix and decided it looked pretty cool and watched it. Didn’t expect to cry and love it so much
I have a fear the next movie will get rid of all his growth as a character and he has to re learn it like most shows and movies do with is dumb and ruins it
Fun fact uilta man was made in 1966
why emi looks like a baby titanosaurus?
I was wondering if Ken is rich why wouldn't he just hire a bunch of maids to ease his work?
Kmen you mean ka men
WAYBIG!!!!
Uliat man was made in 1966
Waybig was made in 2016
@@hazelsmith6497 i know, i also know waybig is litterally just a reference to ultraman.
@@hazelsmith6497Buddy, Waybig was created in 2007
