Dude, you are an amazing reviewer! You compared these two types of headphones, closed and open, and told the most important things, especially about the echo from the voices of the interlocutors in open headphones. Now I know for sure that I need closed ones. Thank you very much! P.S. Sorry for my english if that))
Funny enough the reason I want open back is for multiplayer. I play games where Im doing character voices and it helps a lot if I have a better ability to hear how Im sounding. But I also use an external mic separate from my headset.
I agree bruh best sounding headset I've ever owned. If you have the open back it's better if you have an amp to go with it, so you can crank up the volume and play with the EQ.
Yes, you're absolutely right. I forgot to mention amps. I play on the PS5, and I don't use an amp, but on PC a feature rich amp and/or software can help you boost areas of sound that are lacking.

hey Troy really well done review! You definitely deserve more views and subs imo. I just got the HD560s but am missing the attached mic I've grown accustomed to over the years, so im considering buying a H6pro instead. I tend to play more single player games (cyberpunk, arkham games, rdr2 f.ex.) but I do still game with friends almost daily so Id love to know your input on which version of the H6pro I should get. I was leaning towards the open version at first because of the amazing sounds im getting from the HD560s but I wouldnt wanna get them if they do end up annoying my friends with the audio bleeding through and going into my mic.
Good thing I ordered the closed version today, I’m heavy on bf2042 right now and will be on mw2 heavy as well, should be coming in tomorrow, great video 👍🏾
The headphones have been great, great directional sound, you can hear people coming from all directions even tho I’ve stopped playing mw2, recently went back to mw2019, the movement alone makes that mw2019 much better
I have the open back in my opinion the ear pads aren't comfortable enough. So I order DekonI midnight series ear pads. I know it's not I ideal to put leather ear pads on an open back. But wow it's very comfortable to wear and I am enjoying the sound even more.
The purpose of open-back headphones is to create a more natural sound. They invite a larger sound stage, and add much clarity. Footstep direction is dependent on imaging, and footstep clarity depends on prominent mids and volume. Sounds can sound clearer when they are louder. The H6PRO from EPOS has excellent footstep clarity, because the mids are so prominent on that headset - and it’s a closed-back. At the end of the day, which style (open/closed) that gets you the sound signature you desire is the one you’ll stick with.

straight forward and very informative video, you definitely come across as a person who knows what he's talking about. i found these (white h6pro closed) on sale on amazon for £68, with the RRP being £150 it seems like a really good deal. would you still recommend i get these in 2024, or are there better ones out there for the current sale price? my use case is mixed, movies/music/gaming, but more so gaming (fps titles like warzone, battlefield, counter strike). also im assuming i dont need a DAC for these? ill be plugging it straight into my motherboard so hopefully they are easy to drive. reason im asking is another reviewer i watched before watching your video commented on these headphones saying without the dac (gsx300) these headphones are not so special and that the hyperx cloud alpha are better. dont know how reliable his opinion is on this matter, and would like to hear your opinion on this too.
Whoever said that doesn’t know what the hell they’re talking about. The H6PRO is the best all-round gaming headset I’ve seen, and is the perfect choice for you. You don’t need an amp for it l, because it has low impedance and high sensitivity. On my PS5, I plug it straight into my controller. On PC, if you’re using your motherboard’s built in amp then you should have no problems, unless you have a shitty motherboard amp. The GSX1000 and 1200 are low powered and out of date - don’t use them. If you feel you need to buy an amp then go with the Fiio K11. It has 1400mW of goodness. :). Go with the H6PRO (closed) and don’t look back.
Super review. From my experience with 990, hd560, g Pro X, black shark, 712 , best feeling in FPS game was on open , cos foot steep can adjust on eq but on open headsets almost give me some space how far is , anyway that epos will my next , I hope they make some WiFi version,.
Yes, I forgot to mention amps. A good amp and/or software can really help a headset that's lacking. Although, the H6PRO "open-back" is not lacking at all. It's a fantastic headset.

How noticeable is the sound leak? I mostly play MMORPGs, but I play FPS games quite frequently as well. If I had to choose between which genre I'd prefer an advantage in, I'd choose FPS. MMOs get muted a good portion of the time to listen to music. I usually play at about 80% volume. My current headset (Plantronics Rig 500) has a weird effect where my game volume plays through the mic when it's in the muted position, but my voice doesn't get picked up. I hope I don't come across any issues like that with the H6 Pro.
Hi troy was looking at both open and close and confused of which to get. Games i play R6, insurgency, squad, hell let loose csgo EFT and a bunch more squad like games coming. which would you recommend?
@@District.24 Thanks for helping!! i think i have decided. If i get without gsx300 will just the motherboard be loud enough? or can i use the razer blackshark v2 dongle?

I love you, but I don't. haha (did subscribe!). I was looking at HD560S, H6Pro Open and H6Pro Closed. After looking at the video of the HD560S vs H6Pro closed, I was sold to the H6Pro (need a mic), but wanted open to have better imaging... so found this video and now I'm not sure what I want. I play on PC (Star Citizen, RDR2, Borderland, Tarkov, ...) but don't play competitive (I suck at FPS anyway), so I think the Open Back would be better at knowing where the sound come from (even if I don't ear the footstep as good)... but there's the mic probleme. I don't want people to loop their voice into the mic.
I'm looking to upgrade from my HyperX Revolver S, and H6pros seem like prefect ones that I'm willing to try. Tho I'm still little confused since today is first time I ever heard of open and closed back headsets, I never really payed attention to that. From video I get that these are both top notch, but since I'm going to pay quite alot for this headset I just don't want to miss out if open back is better for music since I love listening to music( and yes I do play fps games and little of open games but mostly online shooters such as rust) My question is if you could just help me out with my decision, should I try out open back or just stick with closed back since I've been using one for quite awhile and found sound to be superb( I am talking about Revolver S)
In the case of the H6PRO, I would recommend the closed-back version. I enjoy listening to music with them as much as I enjoy playing FPS games. Use Amazon, they have an excellent return policy if you're not happy.
@@District.24 Thanks for recommendation, unfortunatly I cannot use amazon since I'm in "third world" country and there is no amazon delivery avaliable. So I will have go order one directly from EPOS website. Also I am not sure if I should get bundle since I would be getting gsx300 for only 20$.
@@mv2986 if you still haven't gotten it, i would recommend that you do get the bundle. i just got my closed back bundle today and they sound great and the gsx 300 is an awesome bonus for the extra 20. p.s. forgot to add that music sounds great thru these imo, although my musical taste is pretty bass heavy so i might be biased in that aspect
I was using hyperx stuff they all are overated for me 😂 if u already use seinheiser /epos / plantronic u will never touch razer / sseries / hyperx etc cheap stuff😂
not for gaming, but for teaching students online using skype video calls, occationally music and movie watching, which one is a better choice. currently using a Jabra which is not coving the ears but on ears, not comfortable, feeling the presure force on head as well . thinking about gaming asset might be suitable for teaching as well. what do you think? any better choices? Many thanks
The EPOS H6PRO (closed). You need a closed-back for your situation. The mic is excellent. It’s easy to mute, and removable if you need it to be. I would recommend the white or blue version.
Wish I’d watched this last week before I purchased the closed backs :’) definitely would’ve swayed me to the opens. I’m one of those people who aren’t massively fond of the sound of the closed back because of how bright they sound. In your opinion, which do you think would be better for an immersive experience in an open world game: the h6pro opens, the pc38x, or even something else?
Great review! A question first you said you hear footsteps better on the closed one and then you say the imaging on the open-back is "as excellent as it is on the closed-back"? Im a bit confused, which one is the best for hearing footsteps?
Imaging is direction of the sound. The loudness of the sound comes from the elevated mids/highs. The open and closed versions have the same imaging, but the closed has a brighter sound signature making it easier to hear those footsteps coming.
Does the open back version still have the detail of the closed one? I want a headphone to be less fatiguing than the hyper x cloud alpha but with more detail soundstage and still get some bass
Looking to buy a headset for my laptop. I generally use it for playing minecraft with my sister so would like the option to connect to and hear the game as well as connect to my phone and hear phone call. I also have young children and would love a headset that has an “ambient sound mode” so that I can hear if they get out of bed/call for me etc. Would like the option to be wireless too but not essential. Think I’d prefer the closed going by your description but does it have an “ambient mode”? Sony inzone H9 have this feature but can’t see a review from you yet? And prefer the look of these :/ (Sorry for the essay just wanting advice)
If your laptop is a Mac then I highly recommend the Apple AirPods Max. It has everything you need. If you’re on PC then you’ll have to do some research, because I don’t know of a headset that matches all your criteria. The H9 Inzone has a crappy mic, so if you don’t mind that then I guess you could go with that. I don’t think the EPOS H3PRO Hybrid has an ambient mode, but you could look into that. I don’t think the Corsair HS80 does either, but double check. Lastly, I don’t think the Astro A50 has ambient mode either, but you should double check.
@@District.24 thankyou for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it :) Unfortunately I don’t have a Mac -I have the airpod pros and absolutely love them so the airpod max would probably go down a treat. I love the appearance of the h3pro hybrid and honestly everything about them looks ideal for what I’m after, it’s just the lack of ambient noise which is putting me off. I watched your review-Having used them yourself is the wired mode as good as the h6pro? And do they completely cut out background noise? I don’t usually have my games too loud but usually have to take a headphone off one ear to hear thinks like door knocking or kids calling me. Would these be the same in your opinion?
The H3PRO Hybrid comes with passive noise cancelling. It won’t drown out big noises. It’s wired connection is pretty much the same as the H6PRO, but if I was you, I wouldn’t settle. You want a headset with an ambient mode, hold out for one. To be honest, that’s usually a feature you find on headphones not gaming headsets.
I'm considering buying the H6Pro but I play alot of Need For Speed and sports games in my situation what would be best for me open or closed? I listen to alot of music also and I'm on PS5. Thank you in advance
Just to reconfirm the confirmed from your side 😅, if I’m playing in a silent place would you prefer the open for the best Audio experience for gaming fps and movies on Xbox series X using Dolby atmos,, or closed is better both silent or mid noise environment.
Sound is subjective. It’s whichever sounds better to you. I prefer open when it’s a quiet environment, but I prefer closed when playing FPS games regardless of the environment.
Yo don't know if you will answer. Between these two what do you think would be better? I play usually singleplayer games and listen to music sometimes. There isn't much noise going in my house aside my PS5 noise but doubt that is loud enough.
So I already have a Sennheiser 58X I use in every game. But I thinking of looking for a close back to use for Halo and competitive FPS shooters like war zone etc. If I got the closed version of the h6 pro, do you think I would notice a notable difference in imaging etc?
Sound is subjective, so I don’t really know what you’ll hear, but I can tell you what I and many others hear with the H6PRO: amazing sound signature with incredible imaging. The best imaging in a gaming headset in the market today.
Yeah. On the PS5 you have to turn down the mic sensitivity, which works on some headsets, but not all. For example, I can't solve this problem on the Coolermaster MH630. I wish I never bought that headset, because there are so many people online complaining of the exact same problem.
Hello! Is there a high pitched electrical sound in the headphones, when all other sounds are turned off? I now own razer kraken v3, and this sound drives me crazy. So now i’m afraid of buying a new pair of epos headphones and hearing this sound again
What do you think about the EPOS H6 PRO for music? Open or closed? I love playing competive shooters but find myself listening to music while studying more often because I don't have time to play games. For context, I mostly listen to rnb. Thanks!!
It’s wonderful for music. This is one of the reasons I hold this headset in such high regard. It’s the most well rounded gaming headset I’ve found to date. It’s not feature rich like others, but those others don’t perform (sound and mic) like the H6PRO.
@@District.24 Great! These seem to be at a great price too in my country. Just wondering, is there much difference between open and closed back H6 pros for music?
Hey, I was wondering which one was the best option for me, the h6 pro closed, pc38x or the gsp 600, I want a headset focused on music but also able to be used for gaming. I also want a clear sound, with good bass. Which one is the best for me? And do you have any other recommendations for those preferences?
I am considering buying the open Epos H6pros open for Valorant competitive gaming. But I am not sure if I should get the closed pairs instead. What are your recommendations?
If you play in a quiet environment then open will work. If you play in a noisy environment, or you do so occasionally, then a closed version of the headset makes more sense.
@@vatoloco1243 After about a month of using the H6PRO open headset It was great. I preferred the EPOS H6PRO open headset, and having a better experience of the sounds being clear and crisp. It helped a lot to be aware of my surroundings. You will need to be in a quiet environment though for the open headset to function better
@@District.24 Hey bro, thanks for the recommendation. I've had the headset for 2 days now and I'm really satisfied. The only thing that bothers me is that the microphone is too sensitive. Although I set the mic level to 0 on my ps5 on the far left. It would be nice if you could turn it down a bit more..
Mic sensitivity can also be adjusted in-game, and by your team mates. Once you set it to where you want it on your end, then it’s up to your teammates to set theirs (what they’re hearing) if they find yours to loud.
@@District.24 thanks for answering bro. Also, im confused about foosteps. Thank you for the allready very detailed depiction of both
If I was in your shoes, I would have a dedicated headphones for music, and a dedicated headset for gaming.
@@District.24 yeah was thinking the same😅
I love you, but I don't. haha (did subscribe!).
H6PRO closed. It’s better than the open.
I'm looking to upgrade from my HyperX Revolver S, and H6pros seem like prefect ones that I'm willing to try. Tho I'm still little confused since today is first time I ever heard of open and closed back headsets, I never really payed attention to that.
From video I get that these are both top notch, but since I'm going to pay quite alot for this headset I just don't want to miss out if open back is better for music since I love listening to music( and yes I do play fps games and little of open games but mostly online shooters such as rust)
My question is if you could just help me out with my decision, should I try out open back or just stick with closed back since I've been using one for quite awhile and found sound to be superb( I am talking about Revolver S)
@@frostytokes7427 How much better is the sound with gsx 300 compared to a amp includedd in a desktop motherboard?
I was using hyperx stuff they all are overated for me 😂 if u already use seinheiser /epos / plantronic u will never touch razer / sseries / hyperx etc cheap stuff😂
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Would really like to here your thoughts and comparisons of the h6pro vs the audeze penrose. Hope you get a hold of one of those soon.
Thanks for sharing.
not for gaming, but for teaching students online using skype video calls, occationally music and movie watching, which one is a better choice. currently using a Jabra which is not coving the ears but on ears, not comfortable, feeling the presure force on head as well . thinking about gaming asset might be suitable for teaching as well. what do you think? any better choices? Many thanks
The EPOS H6PRO (closed). You need a closed-back for your situation. The mic is excellent. It’s easy to mute, and removable if you need it to be. I would recommend the white or blue version.
@@District.24 thank you so much!
Do I need an amp and dac for this heatsets?
No.
If you don’t need a mic, your choices are TYGR 300 R and HD 560S. If you do need a mic, the H6PRO open-back is your choice.
@@District.24 Ohhh thank you for explaining so good! Keep up the reviews all of them are GREAT!
Does the open back version still have the detail of the closed one? I want a headphone to be less fatiguing than the hyper x cloud alpha but with more detail soundstage and still get some bass
You’ll get more detail from the “closed” version of the H6PRO.
And prefer the look of these :/
(Sorry for the essay just wanting advice)
If your laptop is a Mac then I highly recommend the Apple AirPods Max. It has everything you need. If you’re on PC then you’ll have to do some research, because I don’t know of a headset that matches all your criteria. The H9 Inzone has a crappy mic, so if you don’t mind that then I guess you could go with that. I don’t think the EPOS H3PRO Hybrid has an ambient mode, but you could look into that. I don’t think the Corsair HS80 does either, but double check. Lastly, I don’t think the Astro A50 has ambient mode either, but you should double check.
@@District.24 thankyou for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it :)
Unfortunately I don’t have a Mac -I have the airpod pros and absolutely love them so the airpod max would probably go down a treat.
Hey bro, are you using the headset with the ps5 3d option?
Yes.
I'm considering buying the H6Pro but I play alot of Need For Speed and sports games in my situation what would be best for me open or closed? I listen to alot of music also and I'm on PS5. Thank you in advance
I would say open, but sound is subjective. Start with the open, and if you don’t like the sound signature switch to closed.
@@District.24 I bought the Open one now so when I get it then I will see what I think
Normally I would say open for that scenario, but the H6PRO open isn’t very good. So closed, or TYGR 300.
@@District.24 I see thanks. I also saw the PC38X. This audio stuff really is confusing lol. Mostly because I need a mic as well.
Stay away from the PC38X.
@@District.24 What's wrong with it? Ended up not buying anything yet
The clamp force is high, and the sound is too bright.
Hola! Cuál recomiendas para jugar Warzone y escuchar mejor los pasos? Abierto o cerrado?
Closed.
The hearing there own voice thing could be fixed with a noise gate but thats pc only
Yeah. On the PS5 you have to turn down the mic sensitivity, which works on some headsets, but not all. For example, I can't solve this problem on the Coolermaster MH630. I wish I never bought that headset, because there are so many people online complaining of the exact same problem.
If you have to decide between EPOS H6 Closed or Astro A40, which one would you choose?
As a gamer who has owned two Astro A40's, an A50 and an A20, I can honestly tell you that the H6PRO is the best wired gaming headset I have ever used.
Hello! Is there a high pitched electrical sound in the headphones, when all other sounds are turned off? I now own razer kraken v3, and this sound drives me crazy. So now i’m afraid of buying a new pair of epos headphones and hearing this sound again
No. I have several EPOS headsets, and none of them do that. Give the H6PRO a try.
@@District.24 Thank you!
Would I need to eq the open back version or are they good out of the box? Using on ps5 for call if duty
I think the sound is perfect out of the box. EQ’ing is a personal choice.
do the closed back get hot in humid weather?
I don’t know. I have air conditioning. Mine are cool to the touch. I found the Berdynamics hot. I found Astro’s hot, but never the EPOS H6PRO.
Beyerdynamic Dt 770 pro vs Epos H6 pro closed, which one is more suitable for gaming?
EPOS H6PRO for the win!
Which do you prefer between the closed and open back? I don’t want too much bass
I prefer the closed. The open will give you less bass.
@@District.24 thank you so much
What do you think about the EPOS H6 PRO for music? Open or closed? I love playing competive shooters but find myself listening to music while studying more often because I don't have time to play games. For context, I mostly listen to rnb.
Thanks!!
It’s wonderful for music. This is one of the reasons I hold this headset in such high regard. It’s the most well rounded gaming headset I’ve found to date. It’s not feature rich like others, but those others don’t perform (sound and mic) like the H6PRO.
@@District.24 Great! These seem to be at a great price too in my country. Just wondering, is there much difference between open and closed back H6 pros for music?
Yes, there’s always a difference in sound between open and closed. I prefer the closed, some prefer the open. I suggest you experiment.
Not much, but enough to notice. It’s personal preference as to which headset you prefer the sound signature of.
Hey, I was wondering which one was the best option for me, the h6 pro closed, pc38x or the gsp 600, I want a headset focused on music but also able to be used for gaming. I also want a clear sound, with good bass. Which one is the best for me? And do you have any other recommendations for those preferences?
H6PRO. Enjoy!
@@District.24 Thank you so much!
Does the GSX 300 work on ps5? and will the sound be better with the GSX 300 connected?
No. Works on PC only. Amps generally improve sound of headphones, but the PS5 is so good you won’t need any amp unless your headphones is 100+ ohms.
I want to venture to the open back headphone sound and I want to upgrade from my hyper x cloud alpha
Then try the EPOS H6PRO “open”.
@@District.24 alright, thanks a lot! I'm usually in a quiet environment the open pairs will work very well! You earned a sub
@@Tenshotsshow happy are u whit the open once did you stay whit them or you get the closed once after can you hear footsteps good ?
@@vatoloco1243 I ended up with the open H6pros. It does tend to work better if your in a quiet environment, and the footsteps I can hear clearly also
@@vatoloco1243 After about a month of using the H6PRO open headset It was great. I preferred the EPOS H6PRO open headset, and having a better experience of the sounds being clear and crisp. which one would you recommend for hearing foot steps, closed or open?
Closed
What’s your headset holder/stand?
Just something I found on Amazon. Don’t remember the name.
@@District.24 oh okay thanks for replying anyways
h6pro open is the best gaming headset up into this point
For me, it’s the closed version, because I play primarily FPS games. Thanks for sharing.
@@District.24 I play primarily fps as well. For me its just easier to hear where people are coming from when you have both imaging and soundstage.
And that’s the way to do it. You always have to pick what works best for you.
are the earcups material the same on both open and close back?
Partially. I covered that in the video.
How is the closed back connexted to ps5 remote. Is it good
It’s connected via a cable from the headset to the controller. The connection is solid.
@@District.24 ok ty. Hows the volume ?
Is this headset good for ps5 ? Mostly playing Warzone.
Yes. I use mine on my PS5 to play BFV.
Schiit amp/dac or sennheiser gsx for competitive gaming?
Schiit Hel 2. It’s brighter. In competitive gaming, you want the clarity you get from a brighter sound signature.
@@District.24 thanks for answering bro. Also, im confused about foosteps. I got the closed version and returned it the same day. I took it out of the box, put it on and instantly disliked it. I felt very isolated from the outside world it was pretty spooky to be honest. I cant stand not being aware of my surroundings
