  • How good is the new EPOS H6PRO headset with a launch price of $180? Is it too good to be true? I had high hopes and expectations considering how good my EPOS GSP 601s were, and the new H6PRO did not disappoint! Lots of options, great sound and comfort, and more.

I went through the pain of buying and returning like 5 different headsets including Harmonicdyne zeus elite, Dt 900 pro X and 560s, I took your advice on the EPOS H6 Pro and was lucky to get them on sale. They were kinda uncomfortable at first but i got use to the stock pads.

      @@GadgetryTech ...Well got the BY yesterday and yeah they are great. Feel similar to my HE but the open back makes a world of difference for shooters. I think I'm going to use the HE for racers and story based games then the BY for competitive shooters. The microphones are similar but friends I routinely play with say the H3 microphone sounds clearer. Not sure if it's because of the H6 microphone being removable or not. Owning both I would only buy the H6 in the open back version as I feel the H3 are the better value for closed back. @@clawson32104 so the open sound better for shooters? I'd have thought the closed were better. I've borrowed some Astro a40s, gen 2 I think, but I don't like their sound, but I do like the openness as I don't tend to shout as much and I can hear the Mrs when's speaking to me rather than having to keep taking my headset off to speak to her. The h3 in the UK you can buy between £65-90. The h3 hybrid is £149 which is the same as the h6pro here too.

    Using an audio compresser fixes the issue of getting hearing damage. SoundLock is a free program I use and it works wonders with not taking away for example footsteps around you and then whenever you do fire your weapon the sound is reduced to the level of your choice. Saves your ears without taking away the tactic of hearing other players around you. You do have to be on a pc though

    Ive used the same GSP300s for over 3 years now at my company. Lots of communication, internal voice calls, meetings and whatever were done through them. I used to work in an insanely noisy and crowded environment, and although the environment has improved a lot, Im still leaning slightly towards the closed back headsets, simply because of the natural isolation that it provides However, I use these 99% of the time for work, and with the additional of being able to remove the boom and turn them to standard audiophile headphones, I suddenly cant decide
    So with so many parts being removable already, when is EPOS making a removable cover so I can switch between open and closed at will :). I understand technically its going to be very difficult

    I know this is an old video, but I bought a pair of the closed back Epos H6Pros recently for £70 after watching your reviews and they’re amazing. I’ve owned Astro A40s, Turtle Beach Stealth Pros, Razor Blacksharks & Hyper headsets previously and none compare to these and cost more. The H6Pros is the 1st headset that I can clearly hear footsteps positionally and vertically on warzone. All the others were clear for left and right, but the vertical accuracy was impossible to differentiate. Also, my friends say the mic is crystal clear. Thanks for your reviews, because they are a bargain at £70.

    Love your vids. You cost me $350 - felt like I needed some Maxwells after watching one of your more recent ones. (Kidding, I watched a lot of reviews on a lot of different headsets before I settled on the Maxwell, but yours was probably the best, most thorough one). I have been a little bit hooked on headphones and DAC-AMPS recently, for no good reason, and I am having a ball watching these older reviews (going back to near the beginnings of TH-cam itself, lot's of 8 year old vids on DT-770 and HD 600 type things - it's endless). The price has come way down on these H6PRO's, especially the closed backs, if any of your viewers come across this. It's pretty interesting how the pattern seems to be prices on a lot of models drop pretty quickly within a year, as newer models come out. You can save 30 - 60 percent (sometimes even more) if you're a little patient, and don't need the latest model.

    Great review! Only thing you may have wrong is that the open back I believe does not have memory foam earpads like the closed back does. Notice how when you press on the pads they spring right back up, memory foam sinks in and gradually pops back up. I think this is done on purpose because memory foam is very dense which would not help with a natural airy sound design.

    Another thing to mention for this headset, which is important to me, but seemingly also lacking in so many “gaming” headsets (built in microphone) is that the mic monitoring/sidetone is absolutely perfect. I can hear myself clearly and loudly, it doesn’t cause feedback, and allows me to not be loud and wake up my wife and children, which puts me in the doghouse. 😆
    I’m speaking of the closed back, which is fairly decent at blocking out external sounds and your own voice, but also would make one speak louder without decent mic monitoring/sidetone. Absolutely loving this headset. 👌

    • @pinatadonkey5934
      @pinatadonkey5934 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I never realized how important sidetone was to me until I started searching for a new headset. If it has poor sidetone I end up screaming cause I can’t hear myself. I’ve been searching for a wireless headset but the closed back H6 may be the way to go for me.

    • @baileymoto
      @baileymoto 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pinatadonkey5934 You won’t be disappointed. While a lot more expensive, the turtle beach also does it well, as you can turn the noise canceling to the opposite side, which essentially amplifies ambient noise, to include your voice. If you want wired, I vote the h6pro. If you want wireless, and competitive fps gaming is your jam (footsteps), there really isn’t anything beating the turtle beach pro at the moment. Id be happy to go back to the h6pro, tho. Nice and simple…just more of a pita to eq out the harsh gun sounds, etc. If competitive fps isn’t your thing, I feel the door opens wider for wireless headsets. 👌

    I'm currently using ASTRO A50, but the flip to mute has broken on the mic and I haven't been able to speak in VC for a few months. It's also been unpairing from the dock frequently, which is a pain as to repair it I have to flash the firmware every time. I've always been happy with the sound and mic (when it worked) quality though.
    Given the issues it's been giving me I've been shopping around for something new. These have been one of the main contenders on my list. Are you familiar with the a50, if you are is the sound profile better? I have no issue with a wired headset as everything is routes through my custom chair. Has anything else come up that struck you as competitive with this headset since you made this video, in roughly the same price range? The a50 was 300$ and that's about my price cap.

    So just picked my pair of open backs up two days ago….. I’ve been playing BF5 and a few other games to test them out and the positional awareness is precise….. especially in a game as big as battlefield.
    I knew where every footstep was coming from at a considerable distance. They sound amazing, they’re built to last but I was expecting the cushions the ear cushions to be more of a softer memory foam now don’t get me wrong they are comfortable but not as comfortable as I thought they should be for around 200 bucks….. maybe they’ll get softer overtime but that’s if I’m using them a lot I have other really good headphones to that I like to use ranging from Sennheiser a Beyerdynamics and audio Technica‘s but these headphones are definitely worth the money I love the braided cable for flexibility and the durability of the headphones the sound is amazing like I said and I am playing on the Xbox series X with Dolby Atmos enabled for headphones. They’re a keeper

Neither is a bad choice. The open back does bleed into the mic if you like your volume up. why would you get headphones if you're going to keep the volume down?

    What would be the most appropriate DAC/AMP without going overboard for this headset(open back)? These have really low max volume(open back). Plugged into mobo(ROG Maximus X Hero) and SupremeFX detected impedance and set it to lowest "peformance" setting. Plugged it into the DAC that came with my original SteelSeries Arctis Wireless Pro and it was a little better but not much. Thanks

      Sucks that nobody answered you, but I'll give you what I have and works like a charm. One of my favorite AMP/DAC combos when I want to keep things simple is the Creative GC7. It connects to your PC via USBC and you still have optical in for consoles as well as like in. It has a nice switch for low and high gain and it drives almost every headphone I own. I use the PC38x a lot, sometimes I switch to the H6 Open but I do enjoy watching movies with planars with low sensitivity and I have never had an issue driving anything outside of my HD 8xx or high end planars. There aren't a lot of reviews out there for them but if you have any more questions feel free to reach out and I'll be happy to answer anything.

    Hey man, thanks for the review. You are by far my favourite reviewer while I am looking for a new headset for my Xbox Series X. So I have kind of given up on wireless gaming headsets since they all seem to be getting connection problems which I want to avoid. I have an old Sennheiser GSP 300 headset (wired) which I want to replace. I would like to go for the open-back version of the H6PRO, but I am kinda worried about the volume as you were talking about it. Do you think that the open back version could be too quiet for playing on Xbox? Would you definitely recommend the closed back more? I am kind of inbetween those the open or closed variant at the moment.

      If you haven't completely given up on wireless I would recommend the LucidSound LS50X the connection has been rock solid since I had them in March using them on my series X. I was like you I had to get rid of my arctis 9x due to the connection issues, then tried corsair HS75, razer with kaira and nari. With the LS50X I couldn't be happier it has never dropped connection and sounds great with black Friday coming up there will be good deals on them. For wired I love my PC38X and they recently went on offer at 129 dollars which was a steal. I have ordered the closed version of the H6PRO and waiting for them to arrive after this great review from Joe.

The PC38x are sadly not available here in Europe. The H6Pro seem to be best choice for me. The build quality on Sennheiser headsets is the best I had so far in terms of gaming headsets. I was also thinking about dropping some more money and getting the Beyerdynamic MMX-300, but I am not so sure how well they perform on a console without any additional DAC/soundcard.

      Honestly it all comes down to your sound preference and what you find comfortable. This is tuned better for gaming and offers a more neutral sound, and I find the H6PRO much more comfortable for long gaming sessions. The GSP 600 has great sound but the clamp is rather tight and I often have to take breaks from wearing it too long.

      Your Shp9500's are much better headphones than the EPOS H6Pro. The reviewers are pretty silent on how sloppy and booming the bass is on the H6pro - and the high-end extension is pretty much non-existent. I bought a pair from an authorised retailer, and I'm surprised just how poor they sound. The microphone works quite well though - but not enough to compensate for the sound. Forget about listening to music on the H6pro - it's like listening to a speaker either underwater or with a blanket over it.

      These definitely have deeper, stronger bass. Sound quality is great on both, just different. The one advantage to the A40 are the additional controls for game to chat mix or EQ presets on PC (or console with optical extractor). I think you’d be happy with either one. If you’re playing on PC I would consider a better headphone amp/DAC to get the most out of them. They still sound great out of the box though and modern high end motherboards have decent sound cards these days.
