I struggled with SI joint pain for many many years. To pain doctors & chiro for years. Finally, a few months ago I went to physical therapy. I am 62 yo and although I have exercised regularly all my life, the gluteus medius was not being strengthened. Now, I have big time relief! I continue to do the exercises 3 x’s a week. Hope my experience helps others!
@@elizabethw.454 Side-laying Hip Abduction. You should be able to Google this exercise for details. I started without any band resistance & worked up to light band resistance. I do 2 sets of 12 on both sides.
I tend to agree. I have many, many years of cycling wear and tear on my body, and it finally caught up with me. I'm only 50 now, and my lumbar spine and hips are junk. Because cycling is a quad dominant activity, I started to realize I was neglecting the other muscles, namely the glutes and hamstrings. Now with daily sciatica pain (absolutely brutal in the mornings), I perform daily exercises that work the core, glutes, and hips. Bird dogs seem to be a good choice, along with side leg raises. I also to standing knee circles with external rotation. These seem to help a bit.

I live in Costa Rica. I am 67 very active but I a scoliosis and have struggled with it since I was 18. Your channel has helped me so much to be able to maintain my mobility. To find a Chiropracter or Physical therapist with with X ray capability is 4 hours away. So I rely on you guys a lot to get me out of pain. I just wanted to say Thank you.
I wish I had you guys 15 years ago. I had problems with my SI joint. Lots of PAIN. My Neurologist thought is was Multiple Sclerosis pain. Doctors, MRI, acupuncture, chiropractor, pain clinic and High Powered drugs. Nothing helped. The pain finally drove me out of work. I kept on exercising and doing yoga. I used HEAT patches to ease the pain. A few years later I found BACKWARD LUNGES took away the pain.
Your massage gun… hard to tell you how much it changed my life for the last 2 years. Thank you. I have the old version. You even sold some to some of my friends now ;)
Merry Christmas Mike Bob and Brad, 🌲⛄☃️❄️ Thank you for all your help with the videos you supply to us all. We have had great success with the information and may God continue to Bless you all in all that you do in helping people.
Amazing how much you guys have the answer and help I need at the right time, I thank God for you all, HUGE blessing, Happy New Year and many blessed returns 🙏🏽
I just had my SI Joint fused, Dr said pain could be worse before it gets better and take a while to heal, he wasn’t kidding. This was my 9th surgery, my whole lumbar spine is fused and one level in my neck. This surgery has been the hardest. I still have pain around the top of my iliac crest going to the front oh my hip. I went through PT, tried the SI belt, and many injections before resorting to surgery. I’m starting PT again next week. I feel like I will never be pain free. My lower back hurts all the time. Sitting kills me. I just turned 50 and my back pain started when I was 20. I also have AVN in both femoral heads, diminished cartilage and small torn labrum’s. Im a mess. 🤷🏻♀️ PT always made me worse. I’m praying I have better results this time. I watched your videos so I know what to expect. Thank you for sharing your tips. I want my life back.
Thanks for your input really helps me as a therapist many many clients are suffering from auch inflammation and they rarely ge help feom the average joes
Thank you so much for these exercises and all your explanations of them. Having low back pain is nothing new to me. I will try your techniques. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this. I was thinking I had sciatica but I gave the belt a try and lo and behold, it worked for me. I found I would get the pain in my back after standing for too long, shopping or sitting at a table. I would have to lie down till it eased. I think bad posture must be the problem.
I appreciate this video - I will pass this on to my daughter who has this pain. Have you heard of PT for osteoporosis? There a PT treatment program that has shown positive results but not many PTs have been trained. I heard about it from Margie Bissenger. She was on a osteo boston TH-cam channel recently. I think there’s something great to the approach for improving osteoporosis. I want to participate in the program but the program is not readily available. I want to spread the word. Thank you for all your help in keeping us healthy 🌈
The past month my SI joint has been causing pain. The solid jolt started my problem. Your stretches have helped. I'll continue with the stretches and strengthen my hips and glutes. I'll get a SI belt as well.
When I was traveling, I injured my SI joint, by lifting a 50lb suitcase and twisting to put it up on the hotel luggage rack. Don't do that . I was screeching in pain, couldn't sit, walk or sleep well.! I had 12 chiropractic appointments and 2 massages, the 6th doctor in Reno NV finally fixed it by doing a different extra adjustment than the others, pulling my shoulders up. (I still have other musculoskeletal issues with hamstring, ankle and rib muscle? from travel early this year, it's a mystery. Maybe my hard bed when working overseas?) The doctor keeps telling me to do lots of chair squats like you do, to re-strengthen my core, after sedentary COVID, chair sitting work. I'm bad, I don't like exercise that's not fun. By watching your videos, maybe I can change my bad attitude. Thanks.
Yes, it hurt a lot for 6 weeks and messed up my expensive trip. @@stargazer5610Well, if you go back to Reno, my Doctor was near the Meadowwood mall. (Dr. Wayne)I won't put his full name. He was my 6th chiropractor! If I visit my relatives, I will always go back in for an adjustment. I think I'm still compressed, but that's a different problem from before this?
The belt makes me think of swings on playgrounds that they have now, not the old straight wooden ones, but the ones that squish the hips. They actually hurt after a while.
Well it’s kind of hard to wear a belt like this when you have a lot of pain in your hips from a torn labrum as well as osteoarthritis. Not to mention I am not a thin woman with a flat stomach, so kind of hard to wear and tighten a belt around that area. I have tried to exercise and lose weight and each time I do, this is the pain that I deal with. I also have piriformis syndrome which makes it difficult to exercise the glutes which helps with stability! I have DDD, I have fibromyalgia and I have neck pain as well. I deal with sciatica. Pain, tingling, numbness down my arms from neck pain, down my legs from the sciatica. I’ve been dealing with this pain for many years, I have had MRI’s, X-rays, I have done PT, chiropractic care, acupuncture therapy, injections. Nothing seems to work. I have also worn a brace, no help! I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon today! I’m at the end of my rope!! I really hope today provides me some answers!
So sorry to hear you are going through all this! When dealing with so much, sometimes we have to start slow with just a few exercises/stretches at a time until your endurance strengthens and then add more. We don’t want to do too much too soon as this can hinder the recovery. Hopefully your appointment goes well! Stay positive!
@ thank you so much for your kind reply! At this point exercise is not even an option for me, I do try to do 15 minute walks and stretches, but it just hurts so much. I saw the Nuro surgeon yesterday and she has recommended the spinal cord stimulator I’m going to do the trial which is five days and if it relieves my pain then I will have the implant done. This was the only option she could provide my symptoms and condition are non-surgical which is fine. I just want relief again. Thank you for your response.
