I've had pudendal neuralgia since a very difficult childbirth 49 years ago. I developed severe SI joint pain and sciatica in 2021 after a very difficult cold turkey benzo withdrawal as doc didn't know about tapering. The sciatica finally receded after 6 months, but the SI pain is alive and well, along with the pudendal nerve issue. Last year I was diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy. All of this makes for a pretty unhappy gramma and I'm searching for answers to fix it all so I can get back to my family. Any suggestions, doctor?
Quick questions...is popping of the upper leg joint when walking part of S.I. pain? Just wondering because i saw a doctor for my low back pain and she thinks i have S.I joint pain. I forgot to tell her about my right leg joint popping when i walk. Thanks for an informative video. Im going to try sleeping like this. ❤
If anyone tries to say that the SI joints can't cause pain, I would invite them to experience life in my body. My joints pop multiple times a day and it's always such a relief when they do.
Its not that they "can't" cause pain, but research is clear its extremely difficult to accurately attribute pain to these joints, and in my experience very often its the surrounding structures, soft tissues, etc. that are at cause.
I have this now it’s been on and off 2 years. Not just pain but weakness and tingling into my thigh and even my foot. My pelvis and things are trembling and sitting is painful
As a chiropractor of 10 years I can tell you that SI joints can certainly cause pain, sometimes debilitating and though is often due to weakend ligaments and poor core involving tight hamstrings and psoas/iliopsoas the joint line is where the inflammation comes from and hence the pain.
I had to pop mine 5 xs yesterday. That isn't normal.. I'm in so much pain. I can't sleep! OTC is not working, ice is not working, Aleve is not working, I had a lumbar fusion also..
I wish I would have watched this months ago! I've been struggling with SI Joint pain, even through Physical Therapy treatment. Often sleeping at night seems to make it feel worse. 2 nights ago I woke up suddenly to what felt like my lower back muscles all seized up very painfully and I was unable to move for a few minutes. Yikes! I'm looking forward to implementing some of your tips while I continue treatment.
I’m sorry I hope u felt better soon I always had a stiff lower back and putting on a sock made it feel worse. Thus went in for 7 years. The other day I suddenly got a huge pain in same lower back and couldn’t move for 2-3 days without pain
I’ve had SI joint pain in my right joint for over 3 years now. It hurts when I sit down for extended periods of time and has periods of being just unbearable at night. I had a bunch of blood tests done for arthritis and AS which came back normal. Waiting for my doctor to book in a follow up. My health anxiety is just off the charts, constantly googling if I have bone cancer or something really wrong with me. Thank you for your video, I’m still in discomfort but much less so following your tips!
I know what you say, same worries. I ended up with SIJ fusion. But initially my muscles were so tight as in over protecting ( chiropractor said) it’s worth seeing a physio or chiropractor to release that tension - it really helped me but in the end not enough.
my symptoms are the same as yours, ive been through all the diagnostic tests for arthritis also and my bloods came back "normal" but they found inflammation in my sacroiliac joints through xray and mri. ive joined multiple arthritis groups on facebook and it's very common to have "normal" blood work while showing all symptoms. just to let you know this is a thing that can totally happen!
Look into supplementing iodine it helps your thyroid which controls your hormones and manages stress. It also helps your body heal, a lot of people who have joint or back pain or any other sort of problem should look into it hope this helps
I got hurt at work in the year 2000 my left SI joint opened up and trapped several nerves. The SI joint is a thin fibrous joint and the pain is extremely severe. I have seen plenty of doctors who can’t fix it so I will try these exercises some of them I have done before. Thanks mate for the advice.
What a program I watched you are the best I want to thank you from far. north Australia, tropical Cairns I love the way you explain things what song lovely skeleton I have been in bed for seven months. Still lots of pain every day I think after this, I will be better I just sa to get some cushions.

I just had SI joint surgery and it helped a lot . See a Dr. who specializes in pain . If they can’t do surgery they can recommend one who can . I also get cortisone injections which don’t hurt and they decrease the inflammation.
Thanks so much. I could sleep much better last night after l learned from you how to sleep with this problem. I was in pain yesterday, but today is a better day. God bless you. 😊😊😊
Thank you for making this! My doctor doesn't seem to want to refer me to a physical therapist after having my baby and my SI joint hurts so bad when sleeping. I've only been sleeping flat on my back, since it seems the best but it's hard to sleep that way sometimes.
It's usually pretty uncomfortable going to and getting to sleep - but it's the morning - getting out of bed is brutally painful. I've actually buckled before because of it. My heart goes out to those who are suffering from this pain. It can be unreasonably debilitating at times.
Sorry you have this too, can confirm that getting up in the morning is torture! First 5 minutes walking around I’m sometimes crying. ☹️ Look at the YogaBody channel for strengthening of SI video, I think it’s starting to help.
Thank you, Sam. I have Stenosis and have had lumbar decompression as welll as injections. The only procedure that has helped is Bilateral S I Injection. My back does not hurt during the day. In bed it is very painful. I use a contour knee pillow between my knees but that is my only device. Perhaps this method will help. Thank you so much
Thanks for this, I sleep in the 3/4 prone position but I will see if I can adapt some of these as I always wake up with an incredibly stiff lower back.
I've gotten several adjustments my left one was thrown out from bending over to tie my shoes. Now mainly got glute pain and sometimes hip. I think I'm getting better but it's still lingering. Any suggestions should I ice or heat or go get a massage?
So helpful and appreciate the detail and breakdown thank you! I have left hip trochanteric bursitis as well and I wish I could sleep on my sides 😭 Could you provide the links mentioned about the two devices around the waist and hips please!
Get a piece of firm foam as a mattress topper. Carefully locate the spot of pain and cut a small circle out of the foam there. Start small, you can always enlarge the hole. This should give you relief.
Thanks Sam!, your video is absolutely amazing, this helped! I mostly get pain if I don’t sleep in a right posture or sit for a longer period of time. Any recommendation for best longer sitting positions/postures?, thank you.
Great video Dr! I have one question, I have left SI joint pain right now due to a minor flare up. When I do certain stretches:strengthening exercises, my pain gets relieved. Only problem is, when I sleep at night, I am a side sleeper (with pillow between my legs) and tend to toss and turn on both sides. When I do so, that is when I experience the most pain. Is there anyway to stop the pain from happening when moving and turning in sleep??? I’ve slept with my Serola belt with some relief but not sure if it’s right to sleep with it on? Thanks so much!
Thank you for watching. Generally, since the SI joint itself moves very little (if at all), I would consider the irritation potentially coming from the lumbar spine if the leg bolster is in place. What I used to recommend for this for my clients that roll around at night is a "Mckenzie Night roll". It looks like a soft tube pillow that can be tied around the waist, so it stays put when moving around at night. Take a look.
I have noticeable loss in my left glute where my Pirformis muscle is, but it’s been confirmed my SI joint is a problem. I have ehlers Danlos syndrome, before I was diagnosed I had already gone through 2 ankle reconstruction surgeries on opposite side of my hip. After that surgery is when my hip started to hurt, likely from the scooter and crutches. I guess putting to much weight on that side for so long.I also have hip dysplasia but my surgeon said he wasn’t concerned about it. I fear the hEDS is my problem.
As a side sleeper, I've noticed that I tend to twist my hips too much, which is demonstrated by the skeletons position before the foam pads were placed between the knees. My left SI joint is painful to even touch due to my sleeping position. I used to be able to ''crack'' my SI joint, but no longer-it is now fully ''fixed'' and the tension in the joint is sometimes very uncomfortable. I cracked the joint from about the age of 12 until my mid 30's but it will not move at all now.

ironically sleep is very important for us people with sacroilitis and ankilosing spondilitis.
Is that why im always tired and sleepy 🥹
This really helped last night....
Great video on SI joint pain. It also explains why I have a seizing problem after massages and will add the bolster under my stomach now
This was so very helpful to understand what I need to do to get more comfortable while sleeping with my SI issues. Thank you!

Why? There are numerous videos on my channel about this. Why send people to generic Yoga channel?

I like this video. Please what is the name of the device around the waist instead of a pillow. I want to look for it and buy. Thanks
An orthopedic surgeon told me that I have arthritis in my SI joints. Is this common? I’ve had RFA on both sides, but they only last about 6 months.
Thanks Sam for all of your informative videos!

I have si joint pain on my left side is it ok to sleep on my back and elevate just my left leg ?
Can we do it in tight SI joint left side

How long does the pain last?

Okay thanks for explaining.. All I have to do is sleep like you're in chair.. but on the bed.
That's how I usually sleep, but it's causing me too much direct pressure.

Hii, do you get rid of si joint pain now?
I couldn't sleep like that last example .
I don't sleep headless
Seems like pillow density would need to be fairly rigid, right? To maintain the proper spacing amounts (keep legs & obliques parallel)
It certainly depends on the width, but yes.
What is the neck position and prop you mentioned … in this prone position?
🙏🙏
