    Thanks for the content. Would be really good to see how you add hdmi ports to mining cards.

    I had a bunch of these. The hard part wasn't to add ports to the card but to find a proper BIOS for making the card a gaming one. I think I never got a good gaming BIOS for this model.
    RX 470 mining edition (4 BIOSes) from Sapphire is a completely different story. There's more than decent BIOSes for those cards and adding a HDMI port is relatively easy because the actual port is already in place under the bracket so all one needs to do is to solder a few components (or even wires) on the board.
    Decent performance too (the Sapphire model with four BIOS chips). Performance close to a XFX RX 580 GTS.

      Yep, the first two DVI-only Sapphire RX 470 (quad-BIOS) cards I got from eBay have worked well. One was DOA, so the seller just let me keep it for free. For fun, I spent more than the card was worth on de/soldering equipment, and ended up just removing an inductor to eliminate a burned-out power stage. Runs fine with three out of four stages, even overclocked, with an RX 570 BIOS I modded to overcome the missing power stage. The other RX 470 I just had to reflash and that was it.
      The third RX 470 mining card I got, one with a "hidden" HDMI port, seems beyond my ability. It only seems to run at x1, not x16, and I think as a mining card it was just made that way at the factory. :( Wish I knew what to do to rehabilitate it.

      @@haydn-db8z RX 470 mining card, with a "hidden" HDMI port is made like a tank. It may have a missing capacitor(or two) or a loose solder joint (or two) under the GPU chip. You can measure if it is so. Obviously, you can inspect the back of the card close to the PCIe pins to see if there's any knocked out capacitor (s). It should work x16 just fine mounted on a PCIe x16 slot. I can't say if you need to flash a different BIOS on one of the four chips
      (I mean different than what you have now) but it is possible to not work well with a slightly wrong BIOS. If you install amdkmdag patch for a mining BIOS to work "normal" with Windows drivers, and you don't get x16 you need to check capacitors and data lines and if everything is fine, try some other BIOSes. You need a BIOS for RX 470 or 570 (both working just fine) for the type of memory card it has and for the amount of memory card has (4GB or 8GB). Try BIOSes for Sapphire Pulse RX 570 or Sapphire RX 470 NItro plus. My guess is it has some capacitors knocked out or loose solder joints under the GPU chip.

      @@Dandan-tg6tj Hi Dan, and thank you for your reply. :) Aside from getting that one card DOA, the Sapphire cards really seem well built, and reviews generally praise their quality. I read in another former-mining GPU thread about "missing decoupling capacitors" along the PCIE edge of the card, and mine is indeed missing 15 of the 16 tiny pairs of capacitors, which I suspect is why I'm only getting x1. From casual inspection, I don't believe they were removed by the miner; they seem to have never been installed. I don't have the skill or precision equipment to replace such tiny components; at best I could solder them closed. Do you think that would work? I could solder one of the pairs to see if I could at least get x2. :D :D
      P.S. I've used the awesome amdkmdag package you mentioned to drive 4k through my two working DVI-only RX 470 cards (but with some audio distortion). Please let me know if you think amdkmdag could somehow fix my x1 problem, but I'm guessing it cannot. Again, thanks for your response.

      @@haydn-db8z I never in my life have seen any card not having those 16x capacitors coming from the PCIe slot. If they are missing, definitely your card won't work in x16 mode. Practice on broken cards, regardless of how cheap they are. The capacitors are of the same value and the work is the exact same. They don't need to sit perfectly, just to be soldered well. Good luck!

    These cards are quick to fail if tried to use for gaming. The most usual defect is a dead driver because of the too high temperature of the VRM section of PCB. If you try to game on it - VRM will heat up even more and it will die faster. If You try to raise power limit - it will die in days. After the driver failure, the 2.2 Ohm resistor feeding the driver needs to changed as well. Also, the functionality of all power stages needs to be checked with osciloscope.
    It would be interesting to see the addition of HDMI port, for sure. But will not make this card to gaming card for everyday use.
    Its power limit in BIOS is 85 watts instead of 120W/150W, therefore its performance is far worse than You'd expect from a rx470/rx570. So You need to modify bios and find a way to cool down a VRM section. Changing all the MOSFETs to more powerful ones would also be a good idea.

    • @A.S.Repairs
      @A.S.Repairs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right, that's also why I changed them for more powerful MOSFETs and so far it's working very fine at stock after flashing an rx 570 bios but i haven't added hdmi and DP yet.

      @@A.S.Repairs Good to know that you managed to find RX 570 BIOS to fit this card. Back in the days I wasn't able to find any good working BIOS for this specific model. Maybe I'll try a RX 570 BIOS next time when I can get my hands on this model of video card. Thank you for the info. Cheers!

      You basically put the ground lead of the power supply on Vcore so all the current returns to the source (the power supply) before going through the core.

    Yes show how you changed the bios. What you need to do is show us how to use this card in ai. To prepare it to do ai, then to produce logical thought and save up a lot of dialogue with the huge source of memory, used for useful purposes, not useless substitute so called mining, when it is nothing of the sort but a useless waste of expensive resources to build fake money. Ridiculous except to scam the internet out of pennies.
