  • In this video I take a spare g52 Toyota 4x4 transmission and remove the case to reveal the damage to the internals. This video assumes the transmission has been removed from the vehicle and no longer has the transfer case attached. Also the shifter and a few other components were not included with this used transmission.

Definitely helps just with understanding how this transmission works. Unfortunately the truck I just got looks like it’s leaking from inside the bell housing probably that main seal it doesn’t have the clutch fork boot and shined a light and looks like oil inside the bell housing and has left quite a mess around that area

My 3rd has broken teeth :( Doing a rebuild with Marlin Crawler. The only difference between a g52 and a g54 is the thickness of the input bearing(open-face 20mm thick-g52, sealed 23mm thick-g54). It's the W series has different gear ratios and a top shift ;)

i figured it out later and will rebuild it to that. i still have the parts sitting. My 3rd and counterbalance gear are chunked on the current trans. the truck drives with some vibration at 3k so im just running it at the moment because i spent 4k a few months ago getting high Steer and rebuilding the front end. Im enjoying it a little more before rebuilding the spare. i had hit a wall and ran out of money before it got shelved.

@@zero187420 I figured you might have sorted it by now, but I wanted to throw the information up there for anyone else because I had a hell of a time figuring out it was the thickness you're supposed to be measuring

How many I look at the breakdowns of these boxes, what is on our sites, what is on foreign ones. The result is one everywhere!, the wear of the CLOSED support bearings leads to the breakdown of the gears of the primary and secondary shaft of the manual transmission. Have you seen a lot of destroyed open bearings of the industrial shaft or distributor?

You want to go for an H series transmission, the G series is no good for the torque of big LC engines.

A lot of unhelpful blah blah....
Clean transmission before disassemble would be nice.
