  • Bullying and harassment are causing stress, anxiety and uncomfortable working conditions for many people at work. It is not necessarily always obvious or apparent to others, and may happen in the workplace without an employer's awareness.
In order to eradicate this type of behaviour, workers need to know what they can do to report bullying and harassment effectively so that appropriate actions can be taken.
This video gives examples of different types of bullying and harassment behaviour, and shows what kind of information should be collected in order to report the behaviour effectively. It also explains the different options for making a disclosure, which is particularly important if the person responsible for the unwanted behaviour is the victim’s line manager

I've been mocked by my employer, mild threats of being sacked from a simple disagreement sometimes not work related, unfair treatment, clear favoritism shown to everyone else over me.

The person that bullied me at my last job. I beat his ass, I didn't get fired because the managers understood.

Im 100% happier since working from home life is too short to be around toxic bullies who are insecure power hungry arrogant full of their own importance & cause misery to others bullies will always be bullies. The corporate world promote this type of behaviour to control and intimidate staff thats why most bullying cases never get a resolution its sad but true

The bullying and harassment that I received for years and years after I was stalked by a young male, is so pervasive and involves basically people in all ranks of the organization, it would be unwise of me to even try and address it. You do not know what sick people you are dealing with until your life is threatened in words and actions repeatedly.

The clerk at me job will say go ahead and take a job at that school. And, the next morning ask me to work when she clearly knows I am already committed. In a text she said, "you didn't say anything" and, honestly I've never believed people would actually go to cut lengths to be so cruel, strange. It appears psychopathic. I question myself over and over- trying to figure out "how this could happen"? My goal is to get out. When you begin to question my own sanity- big red flag.

I was a member of a prestigious organisation for many years. I fell desperately in love with an ambitious younger member who had apparently befriended me, but before long it seemed that I had been caught in the most horrific honey trap/hate campaign. For years he continually subjected me to bullying, mainly psychological (e.g. hurtful comments, silent treatment and deliberate exclusion), but also physical, whereupon I reported him to the police. I was also called "gay bastard", "moody bastard", "miserable little sod", "shortarse" and "loser" by a variety of other members over a prolonged period. I felt increasingly isolated, my self-esteem plummeted, and I became clinically depressed. It seemed that his advancement was dependent on mistreating me.
However, against colossal odds I fought my lonely corner, at one point gaining significant ground, and gradually took control of the situation. Eventually the whole sorry matter was resolved in the most delightful way. He has since gained a certain respectability and I am pleased for him. Having become deeply unhappy with the way things were I resigned from the organisation, but soon found myself in the best position imaginable, so richly deserved after the misery I had endured.
Looking back I feel I was used as a scapegoat for a whole series of highly regrettable things which had befallen the organisation at that time. I am now retired. I find comfort in playing classical piano and am currently exploring the oeuvre of Robert Schumann. I sincerely hope that the organisation is a much happier environment now than the one I remember, and in particular that there is no institutional bullying.

  • @439bananas

Most companies do not allow you to record information and HR just protect manager's backsides. When you make a grievance this picks you out to be bullied out of the door and then the next thing you know you are obliged either to sign a non-disclosure agreement to get your outstanding payments and a fair reference or you will have to spend vast amounts of money taking it to tribunal.
If you are bullied at work, you are better off changing jobs. It hits the employer in the pocket and hopefully, it forces them to realise there is a problem in the workplace.

    • @whatyouneedtoknow
      @whatyouneedtoknow  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You might not be able to openly record things, but you can always write notes or make a voice recording as soon as possible afterwards. If you have to go a tribunal, having a good record of events can help.

@@msanja70 Well done and I am pleased to hear that you work for a company that does not tolerate this sort of destructive behaviour. Were there many suspected incidents of bullying before the guy was dismissed? Sadly, many companies rather than sending bully managers on courses to help them with their managerial style, just sweep the matter under the carpet or get rid of the victim.

I have been working in a dental office for about 4y now, I love my 3 bosses and my co-workers except for receptionist who has made my life a living hell. She, Linda, has been working for 16 years there. Many patients have left because of her, another receptionist has been on medication because of her. Many patients don't talk to her and ask for the other receptionist and they say they don't want to deal with her, once one of the dentist scream and said she is going to give me heart attack. another dentist who is a 78 years old man yield saying get out of my office. She takes pride in saying that many patients have left the clinique because of her . she says the dentists don't have the guts to fire her. Many patient tell me why is she still here? one receptionist has reduced her hours and she works only on mondays and tuesdays, so both days they fight all day long, the rest of the week I am her target all day long, once I left the office and I was in the bus stop she came started screaming at me, apparently I has said or done something she did not like, I ran away, and I went back to the office, since then anytime I see her in the bus stop I change my direction, I story goes on and on, I don't know what to do, I come home and I cray

just the universe , I am developing anxiety and depression. My boss expect me to just ignore her, it is very hard, 2 patients made a review on our site with their names and wrote she is a bully and a racist .... I Thought that will change her, but no it did not, ....I love my office, I don't want to leave but I guess I have to. most of the time I just can not stop crying I feel sorry for myself and tell myself why I am so weak, I should be strong enough to ignore all that, I do sometimes but is very hard

a'a.a A she is projecting hate because she has hate in her life. It’s a crab in the bucket mentality. They just keep trying to get on top of each other because it makes them closer to the top. I hope you’re doing better. Allowing these people to get away with it and thinking its your fault may potential be trauma from someone deep in your past who felt powerful putting you down.
It’s not you it’s them. The reviews and all your coworkers affirm that.

Believe me I have had similar things happen. You do nothing, they come storming up to you and they will act out any kind of scenario that labels you as someone that did something wrong. Believe me, it is a mental illness when a person does that. Either personality disorders or psychopathic tendencies.
I have learned that even complete strangers will practice this insane method of harassment. I have gotten very very careful and walk about half a mile out of their way.

There is co-worker I have that feels that if you talk fast and murmur words to others, (Mr. Subliminal from SNL), that it makes you a genius. Thing is...anybody who is allowed to flap their jaws without discipline can learn double-speak like Mr. Subliminal. A hyper-active 20 something is just an ageist, engaging in age discrimination.

If you have not reported bad behavior yet, then you still have the time to do what is right for you. When you think about reporting someone then obviously that someone is making you uncomfortable.
Reporting it to HR can lead to horrible consequences, as it did in my case. I have been severely harassed for 12 years after I reported workplace harassment.
If you can change jobs, honestly it is your best choice.
