Fiskars Pole Saw Product Review - 14 Ft. Long PowerLever Tree Pruner

Product review for the Fiskars Pole Saw and Tree Pruner. This tool has a 1-1/8 in. cut capacity with a 15 in. steel blade and a 14 ft. fiberglass pole. In this video I put the tool to the test taking down several limbs off my Sweet Gum tree that needed some serious pruning.
THE HANDLE ADJUSTS for EVERY cutting height. Simply pull the rope through the BOTTOM of the handle an cleat the rope into the grooves on the back of the handle. FISKARS didn't tell me this in any instructions, but I figured it out after a few rope burns to my hands.
Yes, a few others have pointed that out. Something I didn't realize at the time but very helpful.
Just bought one today and cut a lot of branches, saved 600 dollars to hire someone to do it👍

Fix it Flip puts out a careful, thorough and effective demonstration and commentary. Thanks for that. I have one suggestion to offer, hoping not to offend. In the video, some VERY big, heavy branches are taken down with a single cut. You've got to be very strong and work very hard to do that. Also, you're very likely to rip the bark beneath the limb you're taking off. If you take some weight off of the branch first, you'll at least minimize the chance of a tear and get at least closer to a clean cut. Depending on the size of the branch you're taking down, you might take, say, 1-4 sections of the branch down before you make your final cut. You start at the very end of the branch (obviously) and work toward the tree trunk. Flip (?) also tried to avoid a ragged edge by making a cut underneath the branch being taken down. That's very hard to do for reasons I'll skip. What you CAN do is change the angle of your cut by changing your position. (But JJnM, don't go underneath the branch while you're cutting.) Careful also, to keep the saw in the groove you've made so far, if you can. (If you take the blade out of the that little furrow - like to take a rest - the saw may catch when you try to put it in place again.).... One question: how much does this tool weigh?
It weighs 5.8 lbs. Thanks for the input, I'm always open to other people's ideas. An undercut is definitely not easy with this saw, especially when extended a lot.

Tree looks really nice and opens the view! I have one and it IS A WORKOUT. Yesterday I purchased a new blade and will sharpen the old one as I watch a movie - as it seems it will take a while. I miss my Pole chain saw-10" and so much faster :(. But it broke and I replaced with a 14" [Non-pole] Saw. I need to workout with my weight training more to get stronger! Thanks for the review. Good video, good review, nice job on the tree. I just picked up a 16' fiskars($180cdn) and found it works great. A little flimsy when fully extended but I need the reach for alot of our trees. At first use I found the blade a little thin/flimsy but with a little practice I think it's a non issue. The pruning addition is great for small branches. And way cheaper than a stihl I looked at priced at almost $400cdn! I'm definitely no arborist but my yard looks much better. Thx for the video.

It can be a bit of a workout, especially with larger branches, , but it won't let you down.
No doubt. Takes some elbow grease, but you don't have to worry about it not starting up.

So I ended up buying my 16 ft version the other night and used it yesterday. It was money well spent. I got a good workout for a good while and felt good afterwards. I kept my elbows tucked in while pulling that way is takes some stress off the elbows. There are some branches about ten feet higher , so one day I will go buy a 23 ft paint extension pole from Lowes (made by Mr. Longarm) and attach a saw on the end to get those ones cut down.
Glad you like it. Now 23 feet is really getting up there. I wonder how flimsy and hard to control it will get at that point!
Really good review/demo, man! I'm actually surprised how well it did cutting through the thicker branches, with some effort. Have some overgrown fruit trees I've been needing to prune. They're on a slope, so a ladder is out of the question. You definitely sold me on buying one these.

I`ll be buying the 16 ft version this weekend. My neighbor came over the other week with his and I used it, it gives you a good shoulder workout but you get used to it.

Bought one today from Home Depot for $85 or so. Used it tonight. I thought the 'hook' for the actual
branch loading would be larger capacity but I am happy with the cuts. You can take the saw off the pole for easier handling, like for girls...and then put it back on as needed. Kinda makes you look like the grim reaper. LOL Great product. I hope the saw holds up. It is secured with one wing nut and one notch along the saw plane. I would have preferred a bit more stabilization ...so Fiskars please note. You can also move the handle on the string where you need it. Just run it up to the desired location, tie a knot under it and tie it off on the handle. I took the excess string and wrapped it up with a rubber band. Great video. Thanks.

The handle for the rope is adjustable.. thats why theirs notches on the handle, and the rope is in the middle.. slide the handle up the rope, wind the rope around the bottom, up through the first notch, across the top of the handle and down the through second notch.. thats why the sides of the handle have the notches in them.. when you are just using the pruner, take the blade off...
Yes, somebody else commented about the handle as well. I had no idea until then! That definitely makes a difference!

the long blade is great as you commented, but it is also a pro is that it makes a longer stroke on small branches and thus less work.
But then again that's what beer lubrications is for

Great review! It’s weird, when I use the trimming feature mine doesn’t reset like yours seemed to. I have to take it down and manually push the blade back into place
That is weird! It sounds faulty, like there is not enough tension to spring it back into place. I might take that back and exchange it!

Locking system sucks. After one day of use the locking button carved channels in the pole and it no longer held at all.
Interesting. Haven't had that issue so far.
I had the same issue. Scared up the pole and made that top two locking holes useless. I think the locking pin was too short and wouldn't it engage the hole correctly. I did reach out to Friskars about it and they are sending me a new one. Hopefully, that won't have the same problem. I'm going to see if i can fix the damaged one in some form or manner because I didn't have any other issues with it other than that. The pole should be made out metal and not fiber glass.
@@mparamo68 If you can handle a metal pole, hats off to you. The fact that fiber glass is so much lighter is a big advantage for people not strong enough to heft the thing around while doing a big job. You're definitely right about the durability of metal, though. Anyway, if Fiskars is replacing equipment that breaks, all good.
I struggled with it. The saw blade was flimsy and kept getting stuck, and the looper part didn't seem to be very strong.
It's definitely a workout. I didn't have that problem, though.

I’m deciding between the 14 foot or the 12 foot one they sell at Home Depot. Do you feel that the 14 foot model is harder to use and heavier than the lighter 12 foot model. I’m leaning towards 14 foot one. Thanks.
I had some branches that I could barely reach, so I'm definitely glad I went with the 14 footer. Also, and probably more importantly, the more the inner and outer "shafts" are NOT extended, the sturdier the pole is, if that makes sense. The more it is extended out far into a singular shaft, the flimsier it gets. So the longer pole would let you not have it extended as often and be sturdier. Hope that makes sense.

@@fixitFlip Definitely I went for the 12 feet model. It works really well for me. I tried the 14 feet at Canadian Tire store and when I extended it all out , it feft flimsy and very hard to handle. BTW, the 14 feet one is much heavier too and cost $15 more.

@@Frank020 Oh, ha ha, I thought you were saying you liked the Fiskars because it has the lopper. That's what I was agreeing with. I like the lopper. The lopper cuts really smooth. The saw is a little bit of work but it gets the job done!
I know I’m one year late lol but the handle is adjustable to any length, that’s what the slots on both sides are for, look it up to see how cause it’s hard to describe in text

@@fixitFlip yes it is the same 7-14 foot power lever tree pruner. I bought a couple of the cheaper 12' nylonglass ones for $15 too. It's considered a "seasonal item" at Walmart so they mark all fiskars products down after summer here in Indiana.

i like them small 10" electric chainsaws, with a reach pole that extend Can take it off to use it, or with a pole > It beats hand sawing; i had mine for 12 yrs i be lost with out it. put the 3rd set of chain blades on it . i got mine for 45 dollars and still like new> little devil does drink chain oil. I use it a lot cutting fire wood ect. i think they cost now like 120 dollars. About the same price for a 18" electric chain saw
I do, too. I used a 10" stihl gas powered saw for the one big branch in this video. Manual is fine for me for stuff 6 inches and under, etc. Bigger than that, little chain saw action comes in handy.

I found this pruner useless. The blade had a tough time half way through a 6 inch branch. It didnt seem sharp enough to cut through. I finally gave up and used a rope saw.
Yeah 6 inches is definitely pushing it for this saw.

@@fixitFlip Yes it is bigtime! I don't know if it's the type of tree I'm cutting or what but it probably took 300 strokes or so to cut a 5" diameter limb! It also doesnt help that I have carpal tunnel syndrome. My hands and wrists were killing me. I'm hoping when I get surgery it will be easier! Great review by the way!

@@darkknightstacker5420 I think Fiskers also makes a pole pruner that operates by pushing the bottom of the shaft instead of pulling on a rope. (Or at least, they used to make them.) You might have less pain using one with that kind of action, if you can get hold of such a pole. Good luck with pruning, and most especially, with surgery.
@@maiakrache5743 Thanks for letting me know I actually since then went and bought a 20 volt battery powered chain saw/pole saw at Walmart for under 100 bucks. It works like a champ way better than expected. That same branch that took me forever would have only took 15 to 20 seconds with the new pole saw. It really is amazing! Oh and the surgery went great thanks for asking! I'm so glad I did it as its helped tremendously! Take care!!
Pruner works good but the saw blade is absolutely worthless. Doesn't saw worth a shit. Teeth are way to big.
