I have just bought a low mileage, 3 year old diesel Passat for ca £15,000. Got a lot of motor for my money and getting 56 mpg, plus its performance is pretty good, and has a range of well over 700 miles. Comfortable car that rides and handles well. Not promoting the Passat, just saying that it is a long way from £15,000 to £57,000, and I cant help feeling the Passat when the chips are down is the much better vehicle in itself. And yes, even if wealthy I could not really justify spending that sort of money for an ID Buzz.

"And all for a starting price of £57,000"
Why is this line delivered like £57,000 isn't an absurd price for a minivan?
This is a product category that people are used to starting at something more like £25k-£30k. Even EVs like the Vauxhall Combo E-life is like £35k. A 'oh but it's stylish' markup of c. 50% of the competitor's value is one thing, but I don't know how many people care enough about style to pay 50% more, who wouldn't just get an SUV instead. It's competing with a fully specced out Skoda Enyaq, a decent spec Mach-E Mustang etc. at that price point and I just don't know how many people would consider that

Paired with the fixed rear windows (not even pop-outs???) and several other drawbacks, this vehicle that I want to want is a huge failure.

The previous system in my golf 7.5 is quick, responsive, easy to use and just does the job it's meant to. Climate control is easy to use as well. AC on takes about 2 seconds. Sure it doesn't have fancy animations when you press stuff or look as cool. Kind of got the feeling this new system was more about how it worked stationary in a showroom than when driving the car. The touch haptic controls on steering wheel even worse. It was mocked by other manufacturers but like apple with removal of headphone jack other manufacturers are now copying this trend.

The haptic buttons on the steering wheel aren't the worst to be honest, but real buttons would be better. The real issue is the entertainment system which has no real buttons for anything. Everything requires going into the screen. Even changing the temperature or the fan speed requires a tap and a swipe. Did you really need to save so much money in the interior VW? The mk7.5 really has the better dash.

It looks all right I guess, not as charming as the original. But the lack of easily accessible controls (=buttons!) and the high price point are definitely deal breakers.

I’m not saying it’s the reason the Buzz Box is removable but, FWIW, the original Types 2 have that space open. In the Westphalia Campmobile, this space is occupied by a storage box which is also a 3rd seat - not the best (nor safest) seat but good enough for a short trip. In the Vanagon camping world a common accessory to purchase is a console for that space. My mother, who was not very tall, would leave that space empty. In that way she could enter via the sliding door instead of hoisting herself up by the grab bar at the door frame.

Simple answer to avoiding stained seats; seat covers. I personally prefer sheepskin carseat covers but there's a whole host of choices that are just as hard-wearing and machine washable. The touch screen is absolutely the weakest part of my moms ID.3 whenever I've been visiting and driving it. You really need to spend 15 minutes or so to get familiar with it before heading off for the first time. Best thing to do is find the fan controls and then just use carplay/android auto for the rest. The controls for actually driving are nice at least, love the little twisty knob up by the wheel to get into forward or reverse and the haptics on the fake buttons on the wheel works.

11:27 "Give us knobs!" Or design the interface better, like Tesla do: you swipe up from either one of the climate control displays, which reveals a nice big bar with all climate-related functions, and then you aim for the 'A/C' button. It takes about 3 seconds if driving on a smooth road, a bit longer if on a bumpy road--but certainly not 40 seconds. (Don't get me wrong, there are other aspects of Tesla's UI that I would love to be able to tweak.)

Got to ask - what the heck is the issue with a rear position for a charge cable? Put the charger in the dead-front center maybe? Convenient until you have a fender-bender and mess up your charge port (plus all the moisture and ice in the winter). I'm not sure what they teach people in the UK, but here in NL we're taught (and expected) to reverse into the parking spot. And yes - people do reverse into parking spaces with large vehicles - it's no big deal when you know how to drive your vehicle. Dang silly hill to die on, if you ask me!

The Kia EV6 has it on the back, above the bumper and below the brake lights. I think Mercedes did some PHEVs with it on the back, too (although they put it at bumper-height, which is asking for trouble). This seems like the logical place to put it to me - I agree with you about not wanting it on the front (here in the UK we're *taught* to reverse in, but many go in nose-first anyway) but I can understand the challenge in getting a rapid charger cable to stretch from the wrong side. With the EV6, it looks like it would be easy enough to stretch over from the wrong side.

I totally agree that the single color looks way better than the two tone. I read they were trying to incorporate some retro features of the original VW Type 2 which were mostly produced with a two tone color scheme. That doesn’t work for me on this vehicle, but the extra large VW badge on the front is one retro feature that looks great on the new Buzz.
