It’s the rotating mass that makes the big 4 strokes feel heavier. They also feels more top heavy.

A 2'" to the height of the bike, and now you know why so many riders stink with corner speed. Just look at the new generation with Go-Pro at their track. We were never that slow in the corners in the 80's and 90's. Not even the "C" racers. I will enjoy my 2019 YZ250 2-stroke 212lbs (no fuel), that is lowered. 4-strokes forced on the industry is the worst thing that eve happened to MX. The 1986 production rule was the worst thing until the epa/government economic fascism of the 4-stroke.

    • @BigDaveTALKS
      @BigDaveTALKS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@EarthSurferUSA while you are right about the corner speed, the sport has evolved into big air and hard landings. It’s not about being fast in the corners anymore. It’s about riding wheelies through the whoops, looking cool in the air and selling bikes, gear, drinks ect. I just recently started going to the track and spend more time on the turn track than the GP track. I stay away from the main track. I suck too bad but hey, i just started riding dirt about 2 years ago.

250 Pounds is pretty good. My CRF450L (basically a street legal x) weighs 310 ready to ride with 3 gallon gas tank and all the aftermarket stuff. I could get it down to about 285 if I take off all the aftermarket stuff and put the stock gas tank back on. Pretty light for a dirt bike that can go 100MPH on the road. Between the Honda 250RX and the Kawasaki KX250X you had as well. If I were to get a 4 stroke in the future it would be between one of these two bikes. I really wish Kawasaki took Endruo more seriously. The 250X was a baby step in the right direction. Now we just need a 6 speed, some lights, a radiator fan, and a bigger fuel tank. I don't know why folks weigh the bikes with gas in them as bikes have different capacities. And yet we have to put gas in all of them...
nitpick I know, I can multiply and subtract to take the fuel wt. back out. Awesome to have you out there giving us actual weights! So that 450RX, with e-start, is only about 15 lbs heavier than my kickstart YZ250 (also w/ no lights or counterbalancer, and a small tank so less plastic and etc). Also you already have this history of weighing these bikes on that scale and full of fuel (I presume as I would hope a new Gas Gas 300 is not 246 lbs or whatever)...

No. This is not the early Mountain bike industry when they got so light they would start breaking frames and such. But my 2-stroke is about 20-30 lbs lighter, and i have to spend about $150.00/year for a new piston kit. Oh yea, the bike only cost me $6,500 with about 4 hours of run time on it. My question is,---why is a 4-stroke worth it? Because kids today don't know enough math to mix oil in the gas?

When you say Trail Weight, do you mean how heavy it feels when you are pushing it out of a mud hole? That is trail weight is to me.

That's interesting, I weighed my 06 CRF450 the other day cuz I bet sum1 it was heavier than their 21 YZ250 by 20lbs. I lost the bet, mine was 255 & his was 246.

Gas is about 7lbs/gallon. Water is 8lbs/gallon. Gas is a bit lighter.

    Since you’re reviewing 450s now, why not review a KTM 450 XC-F?

I think you will be surprised by the 5 speed. I can’t speak for the Honda but I had a 6 speed ktm excf and now have a 5 speed ktm xcf. Prefer the 5 speed tranny in every way.

My 2021 GasGas EX250F is seven pounds lighter than my 2021 Husky TX300i, so yes, four strokes can weigh less.

If they put the technology behind 2 strokes that they did 4 strokes and everything else is the same, 2 strokes would always be lighter.

Beautiful bikes but would rather have a new 22 Yamaha 2 stroke.
Can rebuild a 2 stroke with a butter knife! When that 4 stroke blows after a few years you have a very expensive boat anchor.

Shouldn't you be comparing that 250rx to a 125? If you're comparing 300 two strokes, compare them to 450's not 250's.

Put your scale away and ride them......this is the only way you will find validity in how the bike feels on the trail.......who cares what they weigh on the stand? I don't know how many bikes I've ridden in 50+ years and it is in the riding that we find truth.

Too bad. Sounds like these bikes would suck in the type of riding that dominates were I live: Tight woods, with rocks, roots and mud. The motor on the 250 sounds like it would fare well and the light weight is an added bonus. But the tranny and suspension are not suitable. Too bad.

250F should really be compared weight wise to a 125 or 150 2 stroke.

And, it still loses weight when swapping out the 250f motor for a CR500 motor…
