  • We've spent some serious time on the new-gen Honda CRF250R and CRF450R, but what about the RX?! Ryan and Jesse hit some local SoCal trails to ride the all new #CRF250RX as well as the updated #CRF450RX. Listen to their thoughts on these race ready off-road weapons. #CycleNews

The CRF RX range bridges the gap between the prim and proper “R” and the more casual “X” or CRF-F models. In fact, Honda considers the R and the RX models as siblings, while the X and L models share their own bloodline. The 250RX however, is the only 250 in Honda’s off-road race repertoire as there is no 250X or 250L offered at the moment. Yes you’ll recognize the CRF300L, but that is also a more trail friendly machine and falls in line closely to the CRF-F models. The previous generation 250RX (‘19-21) won both 250 Pro titles in the west coast WORCS and NGPC series’s last year before the brand introduced a new generation CRF250R for 2022. The RX quickly followed suit and we headed off to some local trails to put the new small-bore off-roader to use.
Honda’s CRF250R is a ground-up new bike for 2022. To cover the bases, it sports a new frame, motor, single-exhaust system, and body styling. The RX version shares the newly updated R platform and comes with a host of off-road specific add-ons. Instead of a moto-specific 19-inch wheel, an 18-inch rear wheel is standard on the RX which offers a taller and more ideal sidewall for off-road riding. Dunlop Geomax AT81’s are the tires of choice for the RX as opposed to the race-specific Pirelli’s on the R model. These Dunlops are better fit for true off-road riding as they have a more intermediate terrain compound and tread pattern. The RX’s 2.1 gallon plastic fuel tank is 23% larger and likely more durable than the R’s titanium option. Finally, the RX is outfitted with handguards, a kickstand, as well as specific ECU and suspension settings better suited to off-road racing conditions. These simple modifications are often the go-to’s for competitors, so it’s a nice option to have them as a showroom standard.

So when you’re talking that, that team had to put slot of work with the clutches and what night, why all did they have to do to make it competitive?
