    My father served in the USAFSS in both Ground and Airborne units from 1954 to 1984. He claims his most exciting and rewarding experience was completing 200+ Combat Missions as a AMS on the EC-47Q during the Vietnam War with the 6994th SS, Detachment 3 in NKP. 😮

    What decides whether an airman will be an airborne CLA or a ground CLA and at what point is that decided? Can one switch between being airborne or ground-based?

      Back in my day, we had to pass a flight physical in order to qualify for airborne duty. That was in the early 1970s. Actually, we didn't have a choice - if we were physically fit for airborne, they automatically assigned us to flight duty. After we completed our first assignment as airborne, they sort of gave us a choice to go to a ground assignment if there was a need or opening at the location we wanted to go. Women were not allowed to be airborne at all.

    Does this job require Top Secret Security Clearance? I got a 97 ASVAB and speak Mandarin. I worked in the private sector in China before though so I have former colleagues and friends there, I was told I wouldn’t pass a TS

    I can speak Thai but I cannot read or write Thai.. I can also speak read and write Spanish very well (80% fluent). Will these skills qualify me to become a linguist?

    • @outandabout5408
      @outandabout5408 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Knowing Thai and/or Spanish could help, but there are other qualifying factors that they consider. You don't necessarily need to read or write the language - it's all about being able to understand a given spoken language. My language was Mandarin and I didn't have to know how to read or write it.

      when I went through this in the 70s, they didn't care if you could speak the language, they were just concerned with "aural comprehension"....you basically listen and take dictation
