🚗 Powertrain and Performance 🔋
Under the hood, the GLE 53 HYBRID features the same 3.0-litre inline 6 turbo engine paired with a 100-kW electric motor, just like we saw in the E53. This combo cranks out a total system output of 544 hp and 750 Nm, and 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. Notably, you can cruise up to 140 km/h on electric power alone, thanks to its 31.2 kWh battery offering an impressive electric range of up to 87 km. The driving modes include hybrid-specific modes like "Electric" for silent, emission-free driving and "Battery Hold" to conserve battery charge - these also have EV specific sounds too!
💡 Design and Hybrid-Specific Elements 💡
Visually, the GLE 53 HYBRID barely changes, just with a new front bumper, and redesigned lights front and back. Though there are little details like he Affalterbach badge, and the red lettering on the rear model badges showing it’s a hybrid. Certainly a lot more than the GLE 63 which only gets lights! Inside, the MBUX infotainment system is enhanced with hybrid-specific displays, providing good information about the battery and electric range.
🚀 Chassis and Tech 🚀
The usual AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension is specifically tuned for this hybrid model, but the car loses the active anti roll stabilisation that made the previous car and 63 so good. Instead it has new passive stabilizers, we will have to see how these deal with a heavier car set up. The fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive is the same as before.
But will the car prove exciting enough after adding so much weight, despite the increase in power? Let’s drive the #GLE53HYBRID and find out!

The 580 is not only faster and lighter, but it also has a v8
@@antoniowiesner8098 Not available in Europe
@@antoniowiesner8098 no the 580 is literally just a GLE 350 with the v8.. it doesn’t drive better, it’s definitely NOT faster, and you lose EVERYTHING that makes an AMG (sound, looks, and driving characteristics). If you want all of that you buy the 63s not a fuccin 580 😂
I have the updated 53 2024 with increased power and mild hybrid and its not slow at all!! love that car, fk e perf.
@@kashkashio they didn’t increase the power
@@a.3160 yes they did. Google it. “. The engine also includes a 48-volt starter-generator and a larger turbocharger than previous models, along with revised software. The electric motor provides an additional 21 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque”
@@a.3160 they added an updated an bigger turbo!
Mercedes said this won’t be available in the US until the end of 2025 as a 2026 model. It seems like this hybrid variant has already been on sale in Europe. Lately we’ve been seeing spy shots of another facelift for the GLE. Another confusion is that the 53 has a horsepower rating of 435 but in the US it’s listed as 429. Not sure why the delta. This most recent facelift should have included Digital Key, more interior color options, brought back the Burmester High-End 3D audio option.. in addition to the lighted exterior door handles that were removed after the 2021 model year and increased the power/torque on the regular 53 to around 450-475.
Nice 😍😍
Nice ❤❤❤❤
I like it
So do you choose this or the new e53?
hi - will you be doing the new GLE 63 AMG coupe?
Have a 2022 gle350de coupe, love everything about it besides to heavy in the curves, dont get this in Norway though
I like it only if the mpg is increased by a lot
How is this 53 making so much more power than the CLE53 hybrid?
How does this car compare to the Cayenne S E-Hybrid?
And how do both compare to the X5 xDrive50e? All seem like great hybrid choices
@@j.r.986 I've personally driven the X5 50e and the Cayenne E Hybrid (Not an S). And like the Cayenne better personally. The 50e is a level below the Cayenne S E Hybrid and the GLE 53, they're both sportier and have more power. While the X5 lacks a bit in the sporty and power side. But the X5 is a really good car tough. I've driven the GLE 400E as well and really did not like that car.
When I drive my previous version e53, I find it too heavy. This feels like a muscle SUV
don't like it, too heavy. Choose the regular 53 or the 580 if you're a consumer who cares about driving dynamics.
Still think the coupe is absolutely hideous, as a Mercedes owner.
Same here
The hybrid only exists for emission and tax reasons. I think the 580 is the sweet spot. V8 but not trying to be too sporty
@@timonxDlolthe 580 does not have the amg look tho…. Looks boring
Ah the extreme driving dynamics of a SUV is see XD the only one of the ugly ass class of cats which can be driven dynamically is the x6M the rest feel like fking boats XD
@@loathsomedungeater7913 X6M is nothing dynamic you just believe what the internet tells you. The weight of the X6 is rated at 2480KG.
It makes a difference in braking if your car weighs 2.7 or 2.3 tons, so yeah you do notice that dynamically.
The Audi RSQ8 is definitely sportier
One issue I have with regards to mechanical sympathy: being able to drive on the motorway in electric mode is fine but if you decide to turn on the engine it has to work at motorway speeds from cold. That is not a good recipe from a longevity and ownership perspective. Am I missing something - have they got around this somehow? 🤷♂️
Tbh I don't see that being an issue once it manages to warm up. Even at 70mph it's only going to be doing 1600 to 1800rpm, and modern engines are great at dealing with wear and tear if they're not abused to within an inch of the redline.
Id rather have the e53.
Does everything have to have a hybrid?
why not. There's still a non hybrid version.
The hybrid GT63 is cheaper than the non-hybrid in my country.
@@megarafjogos good question and where you from I don’t think us African countries have that benefit
@@shingiraimusinga3571 here in austria hybrids are a lot cheaper than full ice cars
Yes for emissions. This thing here has such low emissions that it makes it possible for mercedes to sell more V8 etc
Yes, better than ALL electric or 4 cylinder 63 engines…I will take this
The one thing l dislike is the ipad cluster screen its fixed in 1 postion so when l adjust to sit steering wheel lower it cuts out all visual of the top of the screen, l hope they make this more visible for drivers, and the touch pad on the wheel to control the media and apps, that is purely a pain l spend half my trip battling the sensor to go Left to Right, its actually more inconvenient by having the touch pad removed from the center console. A lot more road hazardous as you can feel if you've moved your selection across so you have to really pay attention to the screens while driving where as the older models with touch pads you know by feel that voice selected where you need to be and only use your prereferral view.
Not enough genuine feed back on this new system from car reviewers it proper shits me hard, lm only 34 lm use to the tech but Mercedes has made it a prick to navigate through apps, and to manual lean in and select Apple car play doesnt even have a quick select anywhere for that. It looks great at night but total arse to deal with in your daily driving.
Considering the price, I will get a slightly used 63 which is lighter and faster. If you were to think about the gas cost savings with this battery, I am concerning bringing this hybrid car to maintainance or repair, the cost of that will cancel out the savings.
3:35 thank God the interior designers are not like BMW
I guess I'm not the demographic for SUVs, it makes me nuts from the ubiquitousness of these bloated heavy vehicles. The amount of gadgetry and complicated electronic aids needed to make these beasts drivable is a set-up for breakdowns and obsolescence. Anyway, they're technological marvels until they're bricked. Sorry for the pessimistic rant. There is definitely an untapped market for a return to simplicity and competence.
It’s going to be too expensive
34 kWh and only 80 km of electric range. Pathetic.
well well I think I am this time the first comment :)
Well done BRO as always
Another refresh for this model will be out in 2027 due to the poor sales of those blasted hideous EQ models. From the spy shots the front fascia gets a new design, interior gets a bigger iPad (screens) etc.
Rumor has it Mercedes Benz is phasing out the EQ brand altogether.
That huge gap in the airbag plastic on the steering wheel looks horrible.
At least it is leather
where exactly do you recognize a gap?
Tbh it is only visible from these video angles here. As a driver its no issue
Thx Raz for Video, unfortunately this is another plug in useless car no one wants and no one needs.
Nahhh, its not working to well.
A 2,8t monster with an always empty battery? Why not put the V8 there like BMW does in the M60i ?
because you have the GLE580 and 63 with a V8 ?? what's this argument lol
you got different engine choices
Regardless of performance numbers, why does MB and BMW modern designs look atrocious? MB designs, you can't tell the front from the rear because its egg shaped. BMW front looks like the Predator's mouth and sharp edges from every angle. 😂
I was dreading the history lesson, jumped off the vid
No AMG Active Ride Control makes this car drive like a muscle car, too heavy and overpriced with worse quality.
Raz….a car with lots to like but the body shape really does not work…it’s like driving around in a three year old tin of Brut showing off your fake tattoos. It is good…but looks terrible. 😰😰😰
Ugliest merc since first ML😂
Meh
GLE has needed major work for look, the interior are really dated I think, the refresh came 18 months or so back and they didn’t do anything to it, a few new colours, wheel designs but nothing else of note in a market where all of its competitors were much much better vehicles, this car needs replacing with a major engineering overhaul to be class competitive
you can say whatever you want but calling this interior dated is outrageous in any possible way. It has the most up to date tech integrated and works just perfect. It is very convenient we still have those hvac buttons, you can hate on the w223 interior but certainly NOT this. This was their best set up.
And the competitors aren't better at anything lol if we are fair. Audi Q8 and X6 are in what exact way different ?
You said all that without actually stating what the problem is
@@v12-s65 it is dated in terms of design and tech and materials - if you disagree that’s 1000% fine but sales don’t lie and compared to its rivals it’s a dated car, talk to dealers who discount them to a higher degree than other mercs, why because no one wants them - as sales of X6 are well ahead of BMWs targets, their market is there but the Merc isn’t what the market wants however you judge that it’s not a car even traditional Merc buyers are going to Dealers for
@@peterh407 merc was never about sales. the gle53 costs 10k euros more in the base spec than the x6m 60i. Thats more or less the reason why the bmw sales are better. never ever the x6 has a better interior than this gle.
@@peterh407 I see more GLEs here in Switzerland than Passats! There are over 700 gles for sale in this small country right now, it's an extremely popular vehicle
It was the best setup but still outdated.my 2020 gls has same.@v12-s65
Mercedes has lost its way in its mad pursuit of NetZero
It’s a pointless trip and I have no sympathy for them at all. They bought into the nonsense way too early.
Hate the coupe
Mercedes is no longer the quality it once was, too many problems and always in the garage. Today I sold my 63AMG and bought a BMW M
I like it
