Another cracking video Nev. What a bloody fish, congrats on the PB! I was at my local tackle shop today replacing lures from a failed rock fishing trip..... and saw that budgie lure, had a good giggle at what would eat that..... Then you post this vid 😂 So good mate!

The fish has no idea what the thing is, the bird shape is out of the water where the fish can’t see it, you could have a green alien and as long as it has a bib and burbles some water it will catch fish.

Be careful when taking trebles out of cod had to spend some time in hospital on Australia Day because of one little cod that wanted to go spastic when taking the lure out 😅

Well done Nev - some lovely fish! Murray Cod are fish that sometimes follow a lure right to the rod tip and the temptation is to speed up the retrieve when you see the fish. This is a mistake. When you see the fish following your lure don't change your retrieve speed. If the lure is very close to your rod tip, keep the lure in the water and move it slowly by moving your rod slowly. You will hook more fish this way.
Good advice, also, with the spinnerbait, let it sink into the target water column, hit the water then count, 1, 2 then start retrieving, depending on water depth
Cod are inherently lazy, if it hits them on the nose, you're a chance. Gotta let a spinnerbait sink a bit 🤘
Mate love the change of scenery and a fish I've never seen before. Reminds me of the small mouth bass here in North America. You need to bring some fish grippers so you don't have to tear up your jacket! Keep up the epic content!
Murray cod get a little bigger than smallies...record is just under 6 ft long and 249lb

You have to, there's a slot limit in most catchments. I "think" it's 55cm-75cm from dec1-aug31 all of Sept, Oct, Nov you can't target cod, and if caught, just be released immediately
why diid u use a paddle when you could pedal
Nev is only using the paddle when in shallow water where there’s not sufficient depth for the pedal fins. He is peddling in deeper water 2:29 for example.
Not sure if you've tried out the Balista Hunchback but I've got one in the duck colour and it's accounted for some absolutely wicked surface strikes for me and it comes stock out of the box with decent trebles to hookups haven't been an issue so far. Would definitely recommend if the cod in your area like the bird-like stuff👌🏻

Baby birds fall out of nests!
Budgies also drink down low near the water’s edge however no budgie ever ventured into this part of the country where Nev was fishing. If you see willows then he is south and Budgies are inland and in the dryer part of the continent further north.
