    Great video. I would add a First Aid Kit, I definitely needed it when I accidentally got a lure stuck in my hand. Next dry bags for an extra change of clothes, rain gear, etc. A kayak leash which you can use to tie your kayak to a bush when "nature"calls. Finally, a kayak knife, which you mentioned in another video.

      @@rosscampbell4884 I only use a paddle leash when fishing rivers. My paddles float, so I can easily retrieve them on the lake. But yes, I would turn around and go home to get the paddle leash if I forgot it when river fishing. I can't count the times my paddles and I were separated on a flowing river.

      Look up 'portable multifunctional Unisex urinals for long distance driving' for those 'nature calls' trips, and you won't have to go ashore, and can fish uninterrupted. They're cheap and can take up to 750 ml, when fully extracted. You won't even have to get off your butt.

    That magnetic tray idea is fantastic ! Harbor Freight is a good cheap source for them. I would also recommend having a fixed blade knife somewhere on your body. Even with a PFD on its not unusual to get tangled up in weeds or heavy fishing line if you go overboard or tip.

    Solid list… The one thing I’ve been holding off on is the depth / fish finder. I know it’s going to be a bit of research on my end. Now that I bought the Old town PDL I feel like it’s going to be a big project to install one. We will see 🤙🏻

      Thanks for watching my friend! A fish finder opens so many opportunities. I was intimated at first with the logistics of running the wires, getting the right finder, the right mounts, etc but once I dove in, it really wasn’t so bad. With a chain, you can also pull it up short so that just the end is on bottom, and use it as a drag chain, plus it's way easier to pull up that pretty much any anchor...I leave mine rigged through the anchor trolley, so when I'm ready to move on downstream, I just pull it up, and it's already in place when I'm ready to drop it again, without hanging up on anything or knocking on the kayak. Zip-tie it into a piece of bicycle innertube and small sticks or limbs, etc. can't foul you up by sticking through the chain links. Stay Safe!

    I use a fishing* magnet for my anchor, its heavy and works great as an anchor,. Once and a great while I pull up something interesting. I also have one of those claw like anchors to attach to brush for river/creak fishing. Dedicated knife for slitting gills permanently tethered with 520 cord. Note, if you get a net or a paddles with a ruler printed on it, you dont have to lug around ketch board. I also bring a frozen plastic bottle of water or two in those thick grocery plastic bags.. it dubs as a refreshment, and a cooler for the trip home. Also if you rock a sitin like I do, you want a sponge, and a modded milk jug for bailing water and wizzin in. Snacks!

    Great list. There are a few more items that work for me.
    A small dry bag I can put my keys, wallet and phone in.
    A first aid kit.
    In cold weather, an emergency clothes kit in case of a capsize.
    A sponge for sopping up water and mud from the floor of the kayak.
    A pair of scissors. I like the Fiskars kids scissors for about $2.
    A stand assist strap.
    I’m a paddle kayak guy and an Anchor Wizard was a game changer for my fishing.

    When I was 6ish, many many years ago, I had to sell door to door for cubscouts I knocked on one persons door and he had a beard. I remember thing how weird. Well I have had a beard now for more then 40+ years. Just thought of that when I saw your name. LOL
    I have had multiple times when I had caught a fish and released it and just dropped the jig with just a rod length of line out and was then dinking around and a fish grabbed it and started to take off I just had to grab the leash. If it was a float I might have been chasing the fish and pole. LOL

    i love the video and it’s very helpful, however, if you have boots on and flip off your kayak or fall in water will get sucked into your boots making it very hard to stay afloat and making them almost impossible to take them off.

    • @BeardedDadFishing
      @BeardedDadFishing  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      These boots are tight against the calf and they don’t weigh you down if wet. The water inside the boots weighs the same as the water outside the boots so it won’t pull you under.

      Thanks Peter! It does rust a little and that’s just with freshwater so I’d imagine it would rust with saltwater. But you could always add a layer of plastidip or rubber paint to keep it protected.

    Awesome! Actually gave me some items I overlooked.
    I have a problem. I have a Hobie single AI mirage. I am not going to sail it anytime soon. I don’t use my pedal drive because that’s where my dog sits under canopy. Ok here is my dilemma
    Finding the dreaded trolling motor, mount, and battery
    Seems like nothing is out there and can’t find simple instructions or mounts
    Secondly fish finder set ups are new and confusing to me, transducers, arm, etc., how it powers, seems like Amazon gives confusing reviews and instructions leaving out important stuff
    Any advice? Is it taboo to use trolling mounts and trollers?

    • @BeardedDadFishing
      @BeardedDadFishing  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for watching! Trolling motors can be put on almost any kayak. I couldn’t tell you the exact mount to use since each kayak is different. All depends on where you want to mount it (bow, stern or side).
      I’d recommend you get out a Facebook group such as DIY Kayak Rigging, Kayak Fishing Dads or Kayak Bass Fishing. Lots of good info on there.
