Nuclear testing at Bikini Atoll consisted of the detonation of 24 nuclear weapons by the United States between 1946 and 1958 on Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Tests occurred at 7 test sites on the reef itself, on the sea, in the air, and underwater. The test weapons produced a combined yield of 42.2 Mt of TNT in explosive power.
I actually enjoyed, The less is more thing that they did in this movie. But you're absolutely right about the payoff in the third act. In fact, I love the whole monarch series. Creature design in Godzilla King of the monsters is incredible. I love how they made all of the monsters feel like they scientifically could be in this world. Godzilla, for example, is thicker because of buoyancy, and they gave him gills, which would explain him breathing under water. His thicker size makes him a tank. You should also check out Kong Skull Island because it ties into that series. Technically, it takes place before the events of this movie. If you're planning on doing the whole monarch series, watch that movie before you watch Godzilla VS Kong.
The big complaint about this film was that Godzilla wasn't in it enough, but that's easily forgiven given that they make every scene he's in count. His entrance and the uses of his atomic breath are MAJOR crowd-pleasers. And this gets him right by portraying him as akin to a natural disaster. You can't stop him, you just get out of his way and pick up the pieces after he leaves.
Well it is still pretty expensive to animate him and I believe they saved some cash in this one by being alittle frugal. The 2nd one showed more and was more expensive. It's just how it goes.
@@johnbeans2000 True but a counterpoint to that would be that they showed plenty of the MUTOs, so its not like they didn't show monsters. They just didn't show the one we cared most about. You know...the one who's the titular character?
The sound design of this film is just unreal, watching it in the cinema was incredible, the way you could just feel Godzilla's roar broke my brain lmao
Speaking of breaking your brain. We watched this with the 5.1 mix (our headphones also have 360 Spatial Audio) and whenever the MUTOS or Godzilla would roar, fight, fly or walk our headphones would literally rumble! The amount of work in making these monsters feel real and heavy is incredible and definitely did not go unnoticed.
@@OfficialMediaKnights , oh man - this film was sound supervised by Ethan Van der Ryn and Erik Aadahl. Those two guys are among the best sound designers working today. Not only that - director Gareth Edwards has an incredibly good taste when it comes to sound and music. I recommend checking out his recent sci-fi film The Creator if you haven't already.
I love that moment between Ford and Big G where Godzilla basically gives him this Look. Like, "Ugh. Helluva day, right?" And then goes back to the fight.
When I saw that first atomic breath scene in the cinema, I nearly cried. I've been a Godzilla fan since I was like 8 years old, and when I saw that, I felt like I was a kid again, watching Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, it's so rare to get that pure feeling of awe especially as an adult but that did it for me. Full-body goosebumps in the theatre. But yeah, it's not without it's flaws, largely everyone has had the same observations as you, Cranston was out of the movie far too early, and they cut away from the fights. The hawaii fight I don't mind them skipping, just cutting straight to the devastation of the aftermath is an effective scene, but it's a little cheeky they try to tease you again with the second fight.
The atomic breath scene was phenomenal! I had chills! The last time I saw him use it was in one of the older films from the 50s-60s so seeing the modern take on it was nothing short from epic!
@@OfficialMediaKnights if y'all love birds thought the Blue Atomic Breath of this incarnation of Godzilla (Big G) was badass then wait till y'all get a load of the Red Spiral Ray which's like his Ultimate Atomic Breath Upgrade that/which doesn't come in2 play until sometime later!
I remember watching this in the theater and when he started to charge up the atomic breath, got full body chills. When he finally unleashed it, the entire theater, including myself, erupted into cheers. This movie was one of the best and most fun experiences I had in a theater because the audience was a bunch of fans that grew up on the old movies just enjoying it with the next generation there kids.
Bryan Cranston's performance in this movie is seriously underrated. Just from a pure emotions standpoint, he makes you feel every ounce of his character's pain and frustration.
It’s not underated the problem is most of that was in the trailer and then they kill him off when the trailers make it look like he’s the central character, his emotions are really good in this
Underrated? Pretty sure the common opinion is that Bryan Cranston out performed everyone and basically sold the tickets just from his performance in the trailers alone.
@@terogates1I absolutely came to this film wanting a conspiracy thriller about Cranston trying to get closure and finding out that world governments are desperately trying to keep the kaiju a secret.
So, fun fact; Toho execs went to the premier of this movie and started crying with joy. A Godzilla movie was finally done right by the Americans. The one thing they didn't like was that Godzilla was.....a little chunky.
Grew up with the classic japanese Godzilla movies. This was a blast to me. So many people talk badly about this one, I dont know why. The scale impressed me, so many good shots and moments. I also liked King of the monsters, the sequel to this, a lot. :)
I would say I agree with you mostly...and I can def agree most peoples criticism came off very negative. But I think the negativity was amplified by their disappointment, main from removing Bryan Cranston from the movie so early on then breaking the pacing to force the story to accept Aaron T Johnson's character to carry the movie. The constant cut aways from the fights between the monsters. The abandoned subplots. They don't need to make the human element so complex it overwhelms the monsters justification to be involved...but if you do...keep your Bryan Cranston alive...he added very much needed human element/weight with out taking from the mystery of the monsters. I still liked the movie but the criticism are valid as we will see similar mistakes repeated in the following movies.
Personally I think it was the main character. For me at least he wasn't that good. If they had Bryan Cranston as the main character throughout it would have been different I think. His character seemed to have more connection to the events happening and I feel would have been a good companion to Serizawa. The actor playing the son just seemed disinterested.
Absolutely loved the early Japanese movies! This film gave me something I was craving which to be honest was always leaning more towards the technical side. I wanted to see how they recreated Godzilla nowadays since I only have those older films and the mangas as reference. And hey if the film was also entertaining even better. This film is not bad by any means! It has it’s issues and we address some of them. It could’ve been executed better with what they already had which is some excellent actors and a great set up. I don’t think this gets the negativity 1998 gets for example. I’d say it’s a pretty alright entry, the plot is what weighs it down a bit but in terms of visual and sound spectacle it’s a marvel to experience!
Godzilla post battle is such dad energy. Took care of business, time for a nap. When you get to the next one not only is the sound design awesome again, but the music, is absolute *chef's kiss*.
I got to see this in theaters and let me tell you you could hear the smiles on everyone's face when we got any glimpse of godzilla. Everyone was so hyped. That final blow was the most epic cheer I've heard in a movie theater it was great!
I know some people didn't like the cutaways but the build up was effective. They took their time with the film and the human involvement actually makes sense....in this one >.>
Random detail: the music during the jump is the Kyrie from György Ligeti's Requiem...the same excerpt Kubrick used in 2001 whenever the monolith is on screen.
If you haven't seen it, check out the teaser trailer for this film (it's a group of soldiers parachuting off an airplane). It is amazing, and even more amazing for the people that saw it without knowing it was a trailer for a new Godzilla. I'm telling you, those religious-ish choirs in the background, chills!
I was concerned about how this one would run l turn out, but it exceeded my expectations. I loved the subtle callback to the original Gojira by bringing in a possible relative to Dr. Serizawa. Holding back Godzilla using his atomic breath till the end was perfect.
The atomic breath came so late in the game that I thought this iteration just wouldn’t have it or that they’d keep it for future films. Man did I feel like a kid again when I realized what the hell was going on! Phenomenal build up during that sequence!
As a Lifelong kaju kid when this movie came out I was so hyped. People complained about how little he was on the screen but im guessing those people don't remember how often he appeared in the original 1954 film.
Yay, the Monsterverse starts! Just in case y'all are not aware of the entirety of the timeline: Godzilla (2014) was the first movie in the Monsterverse but timeline wise doesn't come first That'd be Kong: Skull Island (2017) and partly Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023), a TV show that recently released with 10 episodes Personally I would recommend, due to the context, if you're interested in the entire Monsterverse to watch it in this order: - Godzilla (2014) - Kong: Skull Island (2017) - Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023) (reason I put this here is because the context you get from Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island directly feeds into this TV show) - Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) - Godzilla vs Kong (2021) - Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024? whenever it releases haha) Obviously, choose however you want to experience it but this'd be my recommendation :) The TV show is actually pretty cool, especially with the context of some characters from Kong: Skull Island and some events that happened in Godzilla (2014)
Timeline wise and chronologically, I think the beginning of Kong: Skull Island that’s first set in 1944 with young Lt. Hank Marlow goes first. Then the 1950s and early 1962 flashback scenes with young Bill Randa, young Lee Shaw, and Keiko Randa from Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Then, the events of Kong: Skull Island in 1973. The 1982 flashback with Shaw after escaping the Axis Mundi. Next, the events with the MUTOs in the 2014 Godzilla film, which at some point Older Shaw was watching the news footage of Godzilla fighting the male MUTO in Honolulu. Then, the current events of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters from 2015 to 2017 in the season finale. Next, the 2019 events of Ghidorah’s apocalyptic mass awakening in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Finally, the events of Godzilla vs. Kong.
@@OfficialMediaKnights all movies are awesome but my favorite is probably godzilla2014 the suspense buildup is chilling and got some epic moments not to mention the amazing sound effects in this movies
@@Land_Editzz yah these first 2 are definitely the power duo. They get pretty phoned in beyond this point in my opinion. Not hugely excited about the direction the 4th one's going in.
This is just my personal opinion, and some will disagree with me, but I always saw Kong: Skull Island as the first in this series. That film established a history for Monarch, and alluded to Godzilla. No matter where you think it belongs in the time-line, you absolutely must watch Kong: Skull Island next! Having grown up on Kong and Godzilla films, this series has been such a treat! Great reaction Guys! ⚡️🔥🤙
Got to say I think this is the *perfect* introduction of Godzilla to a wider western audience and, in many ways, very similar to the original Godzilla film. Titans are portrayed, for the most part, as a natural disaster and shown from a very human-level perspective. There's nothing you can do to stop them, your only hope is to be elsewhere. Couple that with stunning creature and sound design and you end up with something unique, interesting and (thankfully) very profitable! Those after monster on monster action weren't really enough (at least a decade ago) to make a franchise with this sort of budget sustainable so you need to grow that audience first. Helps that they really make the most of the Big G's screen time with a fair few downright iconic moments here and every action scene having real weight and power to everything that happens. Oh and as for the 1996 film.... yeah, I'm with Final Wars on this one (for those that haven't seen it, check out Godzilla vs Zilla, Final Wars on this very site). A decent beast from 20,000 fathoms remake, yes. A Godzilla film? No. Wouldn't have blamed the 2014 crew for putting a 'So Japan... we're, uh, we're good now, yeah? We can keep making these?' card at the end of the credits.
I appreciate this movie even more. I did like the creativity in Muto creatures. Godzilla 2014 is my new favorite design of Godzilla so far. His roar was designed so well in this movie.
The design was sick! Not just for Godzilla but for the Mutos as well. Also kudos to whoever thought of the design and how that would impact their behavior as well as what abilities these beasts could have. There’s definitely a team of writers doing their research on how and why certain animals evolve to have some pretty unique skills.
@@OfficialMediaKnights I have the art book for the making of this movie, it is superb, full of concept art of various stages of the designs for both monsters. They did MOUNTAINS of work to get this movie right, and didn't skimp on a single detail. It's really genuine stuff. We need more movies to be made with such passion and craft.
The thrill and fear and build up into the introduction to Godzilla was one of the best introduction/reintroduction to a character/monster. The scene where Godzilla is in China town close to the ending and an eerie cloud of debris just surrounds a hidden Godzilla was also amazing
You mean they made a crap movie and suckered you in by saving money on a screenplay and Godzilla visuals? And one wonders why so much loud garbage gets made.
It's so interesting because I wanted to love this movie, and tbh for the most part I absolutely DID love this movie, but no question the cutting away from the fights was such a weird call, especially the time with the closing door. I feel like they knew how annoying the were being about it, and it was as if the audience was being toyed with there. Also, Cranston actually said himself that he thought it was a mistake to kill him off so early, that it should have happened later. No kidding, same exact critique. And he's certainly not alone. I felt like "Welll okay, now what? Who's this movie about anymore?" Such great observations. Still, it was SO great to see them absolutely nail the classic Godzilla in a big budget American film. Cannot wait to see you guys check out Godzilla Minus One!
Legendary Godzilla has the best roar of a Godzilla in my opinion. There's actually a video on TH-cam that explains how they made the roar for this movie. They said they replicated the effects used for the 1954 Godzilla but amplified it to create the roar.
People complained about this movie teasing Godzilla, but that's why I enjoyed it so much. That airport scene and everything's quiet, except the chain reaction explosions, screams, then, Bam, a massive foot steps in and deathly silence... Chefs kiss. The turn from Godzilla with that piano soundtrack, when the large Muto arrives at China town, and he let's out his famous roar, blowing everything away... Chefs kiss. It was the 2nd movie I didn't like as much. It has its moments, but it didn't hit as hard.
Been a Godzilla fan since I was six. When I saw G’14 in theaters, I was in awe. Love that this launched a new series and inspired Toho to start making G-films again. Just wait until you get to Kong Skull Island, Godzilla King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs Kong.
Top 10 Movies That The Media Knights Has To Watch: 1) King Kong (2005) 2) Transformers 3) Godzilla Minus One 4) Pacific Rim 5) Jurassic Park 6) Kong: Skull Island 7) The Batman 8) It (2017) 9) Jurassic World 10) Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) (I think they’ll like some of these movies. But I don’t think they’ll watch some of them and trust me, these movies are perfect for them)
I've loved Godzilla since I was a child, all the way back to the first black and whites. This film is amazing, they redeemed themselves with this after what happened in 1998. To me, the rarity of Godzilla on screen is what builds the anticipation and satisfaction once seen. But I'm no gatekeeper.
Glad to see you all reacting to these movies. These movies are done so well, I am happy the writers and the director and producer did a fantastic job. I am looking forward to the reaction to the other films. I also hope you all react to the Monarch show after these movies.
The 1998 kaiju has been re-classified as Zilla, a smaller version with more agility and less intelligence. It was featured again in Godzilla: Final Wars where Godzilla kicked it's ass. Surprisingly, Zilla's offspring evolved into a proper Godzilla which was featured in the animated series. Though it's still recognized as one of the weakest Godzilla variants.
Nah, zilla jr is stronger than some(considered by fans) top leaguers, example:shin(and most fans believe zilla is on average smarter than most godzillas)
Just watched your guys reaction, I enjoyed it. Be sure to watch Kong Skull Island before Godzilla King Of the Monsters. Both movies have after credits just a heads up. Can't wait to see your reactions on the rest.
Hey just saw you got to 90k sub. I see your channel when you have 30k around. Congratulations guys!!! Really happy for you keep your great work and love your content. Love from India!!!🥰
Fun bit of trivia: The person who was the MoCap for Godzilla, when he did the final Atomic Breath against the Muto, he used a Barney pushing head as the Muto head.
I LOVED this movie! Even though Godzilla wasn’t in it as much as we would have loved. The build up and overall story and atmosphere makes up for it. His entrance at the airport is still one of my favourite cinematic scenes.
I love the guy that plays the son in this. I still remember him as skinny little 'Kick Ass' (great comics and great films would love you guys to see if you haven't) and soon to be Kraven the Hunter which actually looks surprisingly good a ta time when we've been getting saturated with hollow comic book flicks trying to cash in on that early Marvel success. I'm actually looking forward to seeing Kraven.
Hey y’all! Howdy from north Texas! I just wanted to let you know I’ve been enjoying your channel for a while now and I wanted to thank you for not bleeping out the cuss words in the Godzilla movie reaction! Makes for a much more natural and entertaining experience… have a great day!
I like how this Godzilla series followed the original Toho style; first movie being heavy and driving home a message, then the subsequent ones just going ham with the kaiju
I had the pleasure of seeing this in the theater when it came out. My friend and I lost our minds when he first used his atomic breath. It is hands down one of my favorite Godzilla movies. Overall I love it. It is more serious in tone than the sequels. They definitely step up the monster action in subsequent films. Kind of a hard balance to strike, but I think they did a great job.
What I like about these films is the Alternate Historic Events it shows...and I personally love how they keep us teased with the fight between the Monsters.
Edwards had previously directed the movie, "Monsters" and in many ways the two are similar - including seeing the aftermath rather than the spectacle. I suspect that the producers were pleased with Edwards' directorial choices, as they probably also helped keep the CGI budget in check. Great video as always.
There were high hopes and expectations for this movie, and it’s definitely worthy of praise in certain regards but ultimately it fell short of my expectations. Gareth Edwards’ favorite movie was Jaws and that was reflected by the fact that he named the family Brody. Edwards accomplished a great deal for a directorial debut with a major studio. But he didn’t understand why Jaws worked as far as keeping the shark hidden most of the time. Godzilla is not a shark. Once he’s out of the water the cat is out of the bag. Edwards seemed to think the way to mimic Jaws was to tease us several times before showing complete fight scenes (in the dark no less to hide imperfections in CGI). The result was Godzilla blue balls. Fear not. Toho studios recreated Godzilla perfectly with Godzilla Minus One. It’s a must see.
You described my biggest issue with this film flawlessly. The inspiration is there but as you mentioned it just doesn’t work as well with the big G. Cannot wait to see Minus One honestly I haven’t heard a single negative thing about it!
@@OfficialMediaKnights Director Takashi Yamazaki made a black and white version of Minus One and the film was digitally edited for that format. Reviewers are saying it’s like watching a completely different film. It’s such a great way to reignite the nostalgia of the original 1954 film. Add the fact that Minus One was made on a budget of less than $15 million and your mind will be blown.
Gotta love when they re-release an already aesthetically pleasing film in B&W and it completely changes the mood of the film. Definitely gonna be watching both versions. One here with you guys and the other in our main screen!
Glad you liked it! It’s definitely one of my favorites of the franchise. The dark tone, sense of scale and Godzilla’s design is fantastic. It’s a great companion piece to the original film.
When my wife and I saw this in the theater, right when Godzilla kills the second MUTO my wife belts out "Like a BOSS!" Everyone in earshot totally agreed!
So awesome to find a channel where the reaction to this film is an eye-popping, mindblowing appreciation for its artistry just like I had. They really nailed it with this one, particularly the atmospheric visuals, the creature, and sound design, the acting, all of it. Lot of fun watching along, you both have a great eye for cinematography and an obvious love for film.
If you really like the 2014 Godzilla you should check out two TV series that takes place in the month of birth as well. They're not essential but they are Cannon to the monster verse. The apple plus TV series monarch legacy of monsters takes place a year after the events of the first Godzilla movie while also giving better contacts to the world of monsters and the monarch organization that monitors them. Then after you watch the Kong skull Island movie there is a Netflix animated series that takes place 20 years after that movie and yes i it's Cannon to the most of us just not essential.
Me & GF spent 10 glorious days in Japan back in June! Stayed in Kyoto & Tokyo for 5 days each with day trips to Osaka & Himeji We actually watched Godzilla Minus 1 the nite before our trip. Seemed appropriate! Got pics of that theater in Tokyo with Godzilla head on top Rather enjoyed this iteration of Godzilla. Sadly the sequels have not lived up to this potential. However the Monarch series has been enjoyable
@@OfficialMediaKnights king of monsters hands down for me. That’s not saying I don’t enjoy the others because I absolutely do. But king of monsters just sticks out so much more for me. Can’t wait 👏🏽
I am so glad you two enjoyed this. In my mind it's very underrated and the only one of this series of movies I actually enjoy -- the worldbuilding in the remaining films is just too goofy for me. But then, I liked the very same things that most people complained about. I loved only getting glimpses of Godzilla until the last quarter of the film. I loved pulling away from the main fight and bringing things down to a human scale in the last act. For one, the we needed to see what the human characters were up to, and for another, seeing the monsters bashing away in the background served to emphasize how titanic they truly were and how devastating the results were. Going back and forth like that was so much more interesting to me than just a monster cage match. I really want to see Minus One now. By the bye, the wonderful spooky choral music during the drop sequence was the same music used in 2001 (Gyorgy Ligeti's Requiem). Have you done a reaction for that yet? Highly recommended!
When I learned Japanese, my teacher bought me the full Godzilla's japanese DVD to train, since I loved the licence. Since then I became "picky" in good Godzilla's movies. So when this one was released, and started the monsterverse, I was very skeptic. But it was SO good. The sound design is kinda perfect, the Atomic Breath was an absolute crowd pleaser. I really like what they are doing with these movies. And visually, masterpieces. Every scene with Gozilla is iconic.
Fun fact. The male MUTO's electromagnetic pulse is actually intended for Godzilla, this electromagnetic pulse serves to weaken Godzilla's atomic breath. So don't be surprised if in future movies Godzilla seems to be more powerful, or will use his atomic breath more.
Those 2 have been on our list! Can’t wait to check them out. I’m checking everyday for news on when Minus One will be available but it’s radio silence at the moment!
I absolutely LOVE this movie and this universe. Like many others, I agree with the blue balling of the monster fights and when he makes landfall in San Francisco. But, the VFX and the SFX were absolutely phenomenal in all of these movies. Also, when I saw this in the theaters and the blue light and the initial revving of the Atomic Breath, my face broke into a huge smile and it took a lot to not shout. I am so ready for you guys to watch Kong: Skull Island. I really like that one, but my absolute favorite is King of the Monsters. I know you guys are going to love it.
I'm from Iran, we don't have theatre for international movies so we have to watch them in different ways, i was waiting for this movie to come for long time (in 2014), it was late night i checked and saw the movie is out, i had to watch it, i had exam in the morning and i watch this movie at 4 am on my phone with hd cam quality and mirror image screen (the video was mirror), and it was worth it. (because i had to wait few months for good quality). I watched it over 6 times and read the book too, watching it with you guys it feels like watching it for the first time, so thank you
You should add 'The Sting' from 1973. 10 nominations, 7 Oscars, best picture, director, screenplay, musical score among them. Robert Redford, Paul Newman and Robert Shaw star. Made 257 million(in 74 dollars) in a 5 million budget. In other words, a critical and box office smash. A movie about conmen going after an underworld boss. Re-teams Redford and Newman from their big hit 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'.
Finally guys, I was awaiting for you're next reactions on movies ( you are are the best btw) I don't want to give you any recommendations for future movies movies to watch but try shaun of the dead or hot fuzz. Love you guys❤
I was in the camp that didn't like that they relegated Godzilla to the background and masked by buildings and smoke and stuff. I remember leaving the theater like, this film should have been titled "The Bomb". I mean they could have called it Monarch and surprised us with godzilla and other monsters. BUT, watching ya'lls reaction, I really enjoyed the film and now I need to go back and watch it again. Love Godzilla ever since I was a kid.
It was especially fun to watch this film in the theater in the San Francisco Bay Area. I got super excited when the Muto headed for SF and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them and Godzilla destroy the city. lol!
Besides not seeing Godzilla enough, the other big complaint was how dark the image was. At times it was hard to see what was going on. Strangely enough the 3D version was easier to see. Because a 3D image is usually darker they cranked up the brightness considerably.
Re: the emotions on Gojira, that is one of the things that has long been true in the original Toho Pictures movies, which is easy to understand when it is an actor in a suit playing the creature in question. The suit actors in the old Gojira movies were very good at pantomiming emotion, and making the creature more relatable. I worried that a CGI kaiju would not have been able to capture the emotion as effectively, but in the event, it ended up being more powerful in some ways as, let's face it, "guy in a rubber suit" to western audiences has often been almost a joke, and that is hard for many to get past. I look forward to watching your reactions to the rest of the Monsterverse movies.
Everyone gives this movie hate, but I absolutely love it more than the other Monsterverse movies with Godzilla for two major reasons. Scale and the CGI quality This movie has such a sense of scale in everything, the movements of the monsters, the weight behind attacks, and the natural disasters that are kaiju. Unlike the more modern movies which are just 24/7 fighting with less convincing CGI. It has it's flaws, but I love it.
This was the best of all the US Godzilla movies imo. It’s doesn’t get any better. The trailers for this movie are still enough to get you hyped! The trailer with the Oppenheimer quote “I am become death, destroyer of worlds” still gives me goosebumps
It's nice to see you guys didn't give up after the previous one. Portraying Godzilla as a protagonist who, at the very least, doesn't have any issues with mankind, if not protecting them, is a much more appealing concept in comparison to Roland Emmerich's one from 1998. I'm glad you didn't miss this representation of the iconic character and ready to go further. It would also be nice to see your reaction to Cloverfield or Pacific Rim when you are in the mood for another giant monsters movie outside the Godzilla's monsterverse scope.
I think MonsterVerse Godzilla only protects them to ensure the balance of the natural order. After he defeats and kills those that defy him, he just leaves humans in peace.
I can’t wait for you guys to react to the rest of the Monsterverse! I’m really excited for you guys to react to Godzilla 2: King Of The Monsters, it’s a movie that pays tributes to the classic toho movies with Kaiju that show up from those movies like Mothra, Rodan & King Ghidorah. Very excited for you guys to react to them. The movie even reuses Godzilla & Mothra’s themes from the old movies even remaking the Blue Oyster Cult song
As someone who strongly believes that the worst part of Godzilla movies are the people, the problem with this movie is not that Godzilla is not in it enough; it's that there's a Godzilla movie that finally has a strong human character in Bryan Cranston and they kill him halfway in
39:50 is amazing, Ari knows what's coming and Denise is trying to figure it out, great reaction! That scene made me shout "Hell, Yes!" in the theater as Godzilla's scales started to light up.
Welcome to the monsterverse! Seeing this one in theaters was wild. Please keep going with these. Also, you are right on the timeline for Aaron and Elizabeth. Couple here and siblings the following year.
We can only imagine what watching this on a big theater screen or IMAX would've felt like and with the incredible sound design! Can't wait to watch the rest!
I was 11 when this movie came out and i was a huge godzilla fan throughout my life and when i tell you that i cried watching this movie im not exaggerating, im current 20 and already have ny first tattoo of godzilla
There is a good video that is named "What godzilla really would sound" on youtube. They made the sound at the end of the video and explained that it would be around 174 decibels, you would be immediately deaf and dead because of the sudden change in airpressure...
The tension and atmosphere building in this movie may well be the greatest of any kaiju film I've ever seen. When it comes to the more serious side of the genre, quality beats quantity in my opinion, and though the big lizard is in this movie for less than ten minutes, he absolutely dominates the screen for every millisecond he's on it. Definitely one of my top 3 Godzilla movies!
Awesome reaction for an awesome film. Saw this in the cinema and had sore eardrums for hours!! During the opening credits pause just prior to every redacted name and you see Easter eggs in the hidden text. You could see the love the film-makers had for this.
And yet, still inadvertantly causes the deaths of probably hundreds of people just by existing 😄. It's the only authentic way of portraying him i reckon. A force of nature that isn't aware/cares about the tiny critters that happen to be in the way. But like, not randomly killing for no reason either.

Always nice to brush up on some history! @kylereese4822
If you're watching Skull Island, watch post credits as well.
@@chavadx yes. I forgot about the post credit scenes. They also add to the lore.
I could forgive the little screentime for the titular character, if it wasn't for the insanely long build-up and the multiple fake-outs.
Well it is still pretty expensive to animate him and I believe they saved some cash in this one by being alittle frugal.
The 2nd one showed more and was more expensive. It's just how it goes.
@@MrWhatdafuBOOM true true.
@@johnbeans2000 True but a counterpoint to that would be that they showed plenty of the MUTOs, so its not like they didn't show monsters. They just didn't show the one we cared most about. You know...the one who's the titular character?
Would’ve been nice to see more Godzilla no doubt! But man is the atomic breath sequence incredible.
@@OfficialMediaKnights That’s sick, love that you didn’t miss out on an experience
Saw it in imax. So fucking loud
I love that moment between Ford and Big G where Godzilla basically gives him this Look. Like, "Ugh. Helluva day, right?" And then goes back to the fight.
I've called this movie 'Kaiju Clerks', because Ford could say, in every scene "I'm not supposed to be here today" and it fits

I was actually 8 when I saw it and never heard of him before
I remember watching this in the theater and when he started to charge up the atomic breath, got full body chills.
Yawn
It’s not underated the problem is most of that was in the trailer and then they kill him off when the trailers make it look like he’s the central character, his emotions are really good in this
I love this movie but this is my one complaint. It would have taken it from a great movie to a fantastic one@@terogates1

Mostly due to the weak storyline of the human characters are the complaints from
Same problem as the first Bay Transformers film, too much human stuff, not enough of the stuff people actually paid to see.
Godzilla post battle is such dad energy.

I know some people didn't like the cutaways but the build up was effective. They took their time with the film and the human involvement actually makes sense....in this one >.>
Godzilla gave the female muto "The Kiss of Death" at the end, with the"Conquer roar" Now balance is restored on the planet.

Random detail: the music during the jump is the Kyrie from György Ligeti's Requiem...the same excerpt Kubrick used in 2001 whenever the monolith is on screen.

Just in case y'all are not aware of the entirety of the timeline:
Godzilla (2014) was the first movie in the Monsterverse but timeline wise doesn't come first
That'd be Kong: Skull Island (2017) and partly Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023), a TV show that recently released with 10 episodes
Personally I would recommend, due to the context, if you're interested in the entire Monsterverse to watch it in this order:
- Godzilla (2014)
- Kong: Skull Island (2017)
- Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023) (reason I put this here is because the context you get from Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island directly feeds into this TV show)
- Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
- Godzilla vs Kong (2021)
- Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024? whenever it releases haha)
Obviously, choose however you want to experience it but this'd be my recommendation :) The TV show is actually pretty cool, especially with the context of some characters from Kong: Skull Island and some events that happened in Godzilla (2014)
Release order ONLY just like every one of us.
SPOILER:
APEX tease in the tv show?
Kong.

You guys are gonna absolutely LOVE this series! Especially King of the Monsters
I love the fact they blue ball us for most of the movie. Made it so much more intense and amazing when we finally got the roar and flames

Let me guess you think marvel movies are the pinnacle of cinema?
I read that they went through endless iterations to get it right too. Didn't just settle for 'good enough ' :P

What I like about these films is the Alternate Historic Events it shows...and I personally love how they keep us teased with the fight between the Monsters.
The death of the Female M.U.T.O., also known as "The kiss of Death", has to be one of, if not the most iconic Monsterverse scene.

If you really like the 2014 Godzilla you should check out two TV series that takes place in the month of birth as well. They're not essential but they are Cannon to the monster verse.
Not seen Minus One myself, but all really great reviews. Also incredible to know it was made on a budget of only about $15 million.

Oh, you guys need to see the 2nd movie the action is on more monster fighting can't wait.
Great reaction like always, love this movie. The scream that Ari gave in minute 31:58 was hillarius lol. Keep up the good work.
I watched it over 6 times and read the book too, watching it with you guys it feels like watching it for the first time, so thank you
That's dedication 👍
You should add 'The Sting' from 1973. 10 nominations, 7 Oscars, best picture, director, screenplay, musical score among them. Robert Redford, Paul Newman and Robert Shaw star. Made 257 million(in 74 dollars) in a 5 million budget. In other words, a critical and box office smash. A movie about conmen going after an underworld boss. Re-teams Redford and Newman from their big hit 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'.
I think it's funny that this movie is 2 hours long and Godzilla is on screen for 10 mins lol
This Godzilla movie is slept on. I think it's very underrated. Great reaction!
Me and my friends and family went on opening night. Us and the entire theater screamed with joy when Godzilla first appeared in the airport scene
Scale and the CGI quality
This movie has such a sense of scale in everything, the movements of the monsters, the weight behind attacks, and the natural disasters that are kaiju.
I’m really excited for you guys to react to Godzilla 2: King Of The Monsters, it’s a movie that pays tributes to the classic toho movies with Kaiju that show up from those movies like
Mothra, Rodan & King Ghidorah.
Your mics sound quality is amazing
Monsteverse time babyyy, you guys gonna watch Kong Skull Island in the next?
Yup! That’s next on our MonsterVerse list!
I prefer this tone of movie as opposed to all the Monsterverse world building stuff that they've been doing with the sequel onward.
Awesome reaction for an awesome film. Saw this in the cinema and had sore eardrums for hours!! During the opening credits pause just prior to every redacted name and you see Easter eggs in the hidden text. You could see the love the film-makers had for this.
I love the fact that Godzilla is a positive force in this movie!
And yet, still inadvertantly causes the deaths of probably hundreds of people just by existing 😄. It's the only authentic way of portraying him i reckon. A force of nature that isn't aware/cares about the tiny critters that happen to be in the way. But like, not randomly killing for no reason either.
I love how much you guys geeked out over this. The joy on your faces was amazing 😂
