The fan on the switch is called a “blower” its used to evacuate fuel fumes from the engine bay before you start the motor its very important. If you don’t have the hatch open before every start let it run for a minute or so…..failing to do this may result in an explosion
Esysman just had a clip of a fumes explosion on his YT yachting news channel. It’s believed one of the guys on the boat above the explosion had his leg broken. In addition to venting the rear, I’d open the seat backs to the front compartment as well as a pocket of vapors could collect up there too.
If you have not already fixed the bottom of the boat, I recommend some stuff called Marine Tex. It is a white or off white color two part system that will fix the bottom of the boat and will last. I had a friend actually saw through the bottom of his boat when he replaced the floor inside the boat. He used Marine Tex and never had any issues. It should actually hold up better than fiber glass and is easier to apply.
I restored the hull of a 27' Hunter Sailboat with the WEST Epoxy system. May take a little more time but the results if prepared and done properly will be awesome and last for the life of the vessel. You'll need glass mat for sure. Take a look at the west system.
I would check to see if the boat is fiberglass if it is like a lot of jet skis they are SMC Structural Molded Compound fiberglass resin will not stick to .
As I replied to another user down in the comments, I worked for Polaris of Texas years ago. The first thing we always recommended to customers who got the two stroke watercraft and 4 wheelers was to disable the oil injection and just pre-mix the gas. Too many engines came through the shop that were damaged by lack of lubrication due to the oil injection failing. On the watercraft there were two lines coming from the gas tank. Your main and reserve. Just two pipes at different heights in the tank. We would recommend plugging off the main fitting and hooking the main line to the reserve fitting. The taking the reserve line and connecting it to the oil tank. The oil tanks held just over a gallon. So you got a full size main tank with a one gallon reserve. All with just swapping a couple of lines around.
I've owned 8 polaris jet skis, they're the only brand I recommend NOT to block off the oil injection. None of mine failed and I've never heard of one failing.
@@kradios09 To be fair this was back in the late 1990's. All I know is that we had a large number of engine issues stemming from failed injection pumps. Specifically on the SL700 and SLT700. The mechanic that was there started the recommendation and since we were yard boys pressed into service we did not argue. So my experience may be different than other peoples. But by pre-mixing you never have to worry about it failing.
Im just looking out for you buddy, that fan with the ripped hoses is for bilge venting and for safety reasons always have them functional and turn on BEFORE YOU START the boat it also helps to open the engine hatch when the boat has been sitting a while to help eliminate fumes. Thats also why the engine air cleaner on a boat is called A SPARK ARRESTOR. Safety first then enjoy.😊
You turn on the blower for a minute or so before you start the engine to make sure there are no gasoline fumes that could blow up, once you start moving you can turn blower off.
You need to replace the blower vent hose and use it before starting. Maybe a clothes dryer vent hose will work. As far as the hole in the bottom, fill the void with expanding foam, let it dry, sculpt it, and then do the fiberglass repair. I had a similar situation and that method worked for me. Great video, cool boat.
When I used to part out jet skis and some boats I would always received them with full tanks of gas so I bought an electric fuel pump from the parts store for like $30 bucks (the higher capacity the better) and attached like 5 foot of cheap5/16 or 3/8 fuel line to each end and ran like 15 ft. of electrical cord off it and used alligator clamps that would fit battery posts and had myself a fuel/oil transfer pump for cheap. Just run the hose into the tank or whatever and pump out retched gas or whatever. Worked great. It would even pump warm engine oil. Something like this would serve you well for future projects in your line of work.
I remember people driving those back in the day. They were always a bit grumpy because everyone else had toys ( waterski, tube, hotdog, disk) and storage in their boats and room for all the stuff that keeps you happy out on the water. The people in the jet boats had nothing but a maxed out credit card 🤣😂. It truly is just a fat jet ski. But it’s well worth it for under $1000.
Your energy and skill level is top notch ! If I was 30 years younger I’d be hanging out with ! Of course I’m on Maui so you might have to come hang out with me?
Pretty sure we know what those cut Penzoil bottles are for! 😁 I’ll also chime in on the blower. Replace all that broken blower hose and definitely turn it on at least four minutes before starting the motor if you have the hatch closed. Agreed on pre-mixing the fuel. Those oil injectors are not always reliable. There’s more reasons to delete it than there are to keep it. With the motor working fine, hopefully the jet drive works just as well! A can of SeaFoam in the tank wouldn’t hurt to perk up that old gas and give the motor a cleanout. That’s probably a standard 28 gallon tank. Looking forward to the next video!
you got super lucky, i have a jet boat i got just like you did. spent a bunch of time diagnosing the no spark before compression. found out it had a deep issue causing no spark and then found cylinder 1 blown. sourced out used engines, got a bundle of them for a couple hundred bucks and each had 1 cylinder blown. issue is carbs and ethanol fuel result in melty engine parts. you should just be happy you found that one lottery ticket laying in the road that was unscratched and was a winner. these jet boats are cheap for a reason.
A lot of them are Seadoo or Yamaha engines. The Seadoo ones with a single 720 engine are underpowered. With the dual engine Seadoo ones you have four carbs to clean and get properly setup as well as dual jet pumps / impellers to maintain. On the Yamaha Exciter dual engines ones you have six carbs to worry about / get properly rebuilt / adjusted. Royal nightmare. Not to mention dual electrical systems on the dual engine setups.
@@JetSkiBuyFixPlaySellChannel not just set up properly after cleaning, a lot of people can get an engine started after sitting but once on the lake they are trapped, so they push an engine with one cylinder running lean and smoke it. thats why 2 stroke jet boats litter people's yards.
Makes me wonder if once they damaged the hull, they didn't try to do anything to fix it and just let it sit. That would explain why nothing was wrong with anything else. Wish I could find a deal like that. Looks like a fun little boat.

Great job on diagnosing and repairing the engine 👍👍. You stole that boat !!! Hopefully there's no cavitation when you throw the throttle to it, good luck 🤞
Looks like you scored on this one. Even if the pump's jacked they're easy to work on and usually not too expensive for parts. For the price you got the boat for you have some money to play with. If that boat is anything like the Yamaha "Exciter" of the same type they are a ton of fun but the Yamaha had twin 135 HP motors. I think polaris may have made something similar back then as well, can't remember.
Admiral Webb, a great addition to the Lake Winnebago fleet. ARGH! tracking down all the lines and wires. Looking forward to the rebuild. Vinny says "at least I have a place to lay down and get some sun."
That boat is equipped with a Morse MV Throttle Control Box. These were used on a lot of inboard ski boats. You can pull the silver colored knob out which disengages the shifting operation and lets you just use the handle to control the throttle. Push the button back in operate it with the shifting controls as normal. BTW, an RPM gauge is called a Tachometer.
That's funny at 40:10 when you're asking Vinny about the boat. I think he likes the boat, but he's looking at you like "To hell with the boat right. Gib mor snacks hooman.... NOW"!!!! 😂😂😂
If u push in the key switch it will choke the carbs and squirt gas into the carbs.👍 And the swimming platform on the back to sit on comes in handy on the beaches.
Fishing boat, Fun Boat and now a Funner Boat. What scores! I had a couple Seadoo Speedster Twin Jet Boats and you literally couldn't flip it at full speed and a sudden tight turn. Had many of my passengers on the floor, lol. That exhaust fan is to remove fuel fumes from the engine compartment "before" trying to start the motor. Very important to do this or only start with the compartment cover open. Fuel fumes and a spark will make a big BOOM.
Hey, didn't the aluminum gas tank look like it had a big fiberglass/JB Weld/Bondo type patch all the way around it at 24:24 ? Or am I seeing something and don't know what it is?
What you have is actually a re- branded Force engine. Mercury bought Force and updated these engines with Mercury ignition etc. I worked on a lot of these when I was a marine mechanic in the 90s.
Bilge vent should always run for 4 minutes prior to starting engine to remove gas vapors to prevent fires and explosion in enclosed engine compartment. Replace that bilge vent hose. Those cut up oil bottles are how they added oil to injector pump tank.

Think of it like a JetSki. Or any jet pump driven vehicle. They can pull water from anywhere inside the nozzle area on the positive side for engine cooling. Just like the JetSki's do. Positive side of the impeller. Usually hooked up in either the stater vein area or coming off the side of the reduction nozzle.
I have the same boat. Be careful first time out. Mone loses spark after a little bit of running. Still trying to figure out the issue with it. But dropped one plug at a time till it dies. Then 15min later it will fire rite back up like nothing happened, just to do it again once warmed up.

Question for you? What do you do with the bikes you fix up. Look like sometimes you will keep one. But mostly are you selling those? Had damage to my fibreglass hull similar to on this boat. Instead of repairing with glass, the place I took it to repaired it with epoxy. No issues 8 years later. Not sure how they did it, but it worked.
If you can get a oil injection delete kit, I'd do it a.s.a.p. and just mix the oil and gas in the main tank. Anyone will tell you those things go bad with no warning and you will destroy the engine before you know it. I did it to my mercury outboard and never looked back. Good luck!
That is your blower motor for gas fumes that build up under the hatch !always turn on when fueling at a marina or after you shut the boat off on the lake before restarting.
To fix the crack in the bottom use fiberglass resin mix up your resin hardener take your fiberglass mat chop it up with scissors into little pieces mix it in with the resin and pack it in there it’ll dry solid and you can grind it to match the rest of the bottom. Be careful the jet drive has a stainless steel sleeve in a aluminum drive sometimes that will get corrosion between the two and it’ll push the stainless steel sleeve out.
@@Volusia1 I’ve been fixing surfboards & boats since 1972 Polyester is the coding that goes over fiberglass. He has a crack you need to put fiberglass resin in a crack polyester would go over it but he doesn’t need to do that.I spray 85 foot cruisers and sailboats with polyester last week so please don’t try and tell me what to use
@@jamesswetland5019 that’s not the point. Polyester will go over polyester no problem. However, in boat below waterline repair you would use an an epoxy resin, chopped and a epoxy paste after grinding out about 2” beyond the crack in order to insure a super strong surface. After all epoxy has twice the PSI strength than any polyester resin. Especially with the crack being right on the planing nose of the exterior hull.
They sell a keel protector strip....id patch the glass and add the stick on protector....its a good insurance from stopping further beach landing damage
For the cleaning get a bit of bleach mixed with water it will take all those dark spots off i know your probably worried about your dog getting into it but water the bleach down use it sparingly its the best cleaner for boats love your channel..i grew up in wautoma
I had a 93 Searay Searaider jet with the 90hp Mercury sport jet engine. The boat itself was great and a lot of fun but the 90 and 120 engines were pure crap. In two years, I had to replace the stater, CD, broke a piston ring (rebuild) and the crankshaft broke at the fly wheel (picture a frisbee with teeth, spinning at 3000 RPM in the engine compartment). It also continually leaked oil between the engine and the impeller housing. Another problem with these engines was when you leave the water and then come back down, the sudden water grip would torque the crankshaft to a point of braking. After the third rebuild, I threw my hands up and sold it.
Score of a lifetime, right there, if jet pump, prop, wear ring are good, but even then, huge lucky score. If you can get to the crack from inside, and grind sand, layer with fiberglass Matt, then that be better, to do both inside and outside area , hull crack. My jet ski's, that's what I did. I did 6 layers of Matt, with resin, each layer, 1st layer small, just a tad bigger then crack, then went 1 inch bigger each layer. I sanded each layer, make sure get dust off good and out of pits, each time. Before next layer, hard part 4 you, is its gonna wanna fall off, before it cures. I ripped my ski on its side, that helped. You may have to hold each layer, and use fast cure resin, and several pairs of gloves.
that crack is from launching or loading in rough conditions and slamming the boat down on the trailer. i had a similar crack in a deep V. lake Michigan boat.
Bilge blower. Oh, I and " without further ado" Your welcome! Capture LOL! I Also not sure where you launched at but the rear light and the bilge is a requirement. Where I live you can get ticketed for not having them.
Hey. Man. I like your content and pup's! What's your opinion of putting a 2stroke V8 in a car? I know they Rev high. Specially with a turbo or supercharger
There is always easy access to a water hose. No special nothing. I had a twin 120hp and i could loose everyone in the boat if they didnt know. Sandals amd drinks stay in boat. Sooo much fun
If you have even a small gas leak, gas fumes in engine compartments blow boats up. Let the fan clear out your engine compartment for a minute before starting your engine.....just incase :)
You definitely stole that one HAHA Your gonna have to direct inject the water into the hose. And like a few others said your fan is a blower for the motor bay to remove gasses before starting. Fix the flex hose for it. Nice ride can't wait to see it on the water.
I’ve never seen another one of these before. I bought one of these around 8 years ago for $100, same colors except it had a 175hp v6 in it. I was going to rebuild it but the whole thing was rotten. I had a feeling that’s how it was going to be but at the end of the day it came with a 2013 galvanized trailer which is why I bought it in the first place. That 120 sport jet was a pretty decent engine that I had on a different jet boat. Only went around 40mph but it was reliable
15:10 It's a "blower" You NEED to use it before starting with the hatch closed for a minute or two. It's used to evacuate gas fumes from the engine bay that the carbs spit out. If you don't you could have an explosion.
It was a blower you need to run before starting and while running incase of spark that could blow up the closed engine compartment because of gas fumes.
Fix the hose to the engine compartment fan. Run the fan a few minutes before you start the engine to be sure that you suck any gasoline fumes out of the engine compartment. This is to be sure that you do not get a fire in the engine compartment! Applies to all boats with an inboard! 😲
The fan on the switch is called a “blower” its used to evacuate fuel fumes from the engine bay before you start the motor its very important. If you don’t have the hatch open before every start let it run for a minute or so…..failing to do this may result in an explosion

What @mikedimarco4702 and @Joe_HamRadioGuy and Barnie Fife says... "B-L-E-W-Y" ! ! !
And replace the vent hoses that were down there. No fumes will get moved out the way they are now.

Awesome 👍 I can't wait to see it zoom around the lake. You should take Vinnie for a ride.
That's the first thing I said when you opened the latch: "And it comes with a free wrench".
Awesome as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Epoxy resin not Polyester resin below water line
Sandpaper glass and resin and elbow grease. U can test the impeller before going on the water.
They sell a keel protector strip....id patch the glass and add the stick on protector....its a good insurance from stopping further beach landing damage
Always hook up the negative before the positive!
For the cleaning get a bit of bleach mixed with water it will take all those dark spots off i know your probably worried about your dog getting into it but water the bleach down use it sparingly its the best cleaner for boats love your channel..i grew up in wautoma
Nice score. I wouldn’t trust that oil injection system. Those systems are notorious for failing on these engines.
Loving the boat content Joe! Love the recent variety. Keep it up!
Awesome, Joe. 120 HP that thing is gonna fly!
🥳That is a score👍🏼.and if you want to get that Gel coat sparkling white, use tile X, bathroom Shower cleaner✌🏼🤘🏼🍻🇺🇲
Joe that boat is awesome what a score. Can’t wait to see it on the water. All in boards have a blower to get rid of gas fumes
Hi joe another cracking buy mate well worth the time 👍👌❤️🔧🔧🔧
You need a new vent tube for that blower Motor. You run that before you start it if the lid is down to vent out any gases so you don’t blow up
Awesome work! Awesome deal! Hope she floats and scoots!
that crack is from launching or loading in rough conditions and slamming the boat down on the trailer. i had a similar crack in a deep V. lake Michigan boat.
Great find, good looking boat. Looking forward to this project, and seeing what you can do. Nice to hear it running, that's half the problem
Bilge blower. Oh, I and " without further ado" Your welcome! Capture LOL! I Also not sure where you launched at but the rear light and the bilge is a requirement. Where I live you can get ticketed for not having them.
Looks like fun to me, and a good buy.👍
What type of oil do you use to lubricate the piston/cylinder
Hey. Man. I like your content and pup's! What's your opinion of putting a 2stroke V8 in a car? I know they Rev high. Specially with a turbo or supercharger
Love the videos. Not everything is junk if people make an effort. Too much disposable mentality these days.
totally agree with you !!
You got a really good bargain there buddy. Good luck with the rest of it.
There is always easy access to a water hose. No special nothing. I had a twin 120hp and i could loose everyone in the boat if they didnt know. Sandals amd drinks stay in boat. Sooo much fun
Good methodical work. Cute cute Dog.
What a lekker boat, you're accumulating a flotilla. Clean, fix the crack, some seats, hope the impeller still is and off you go.
@2vintage wondering what booster pack you use on your projects? keep up the good work
I haven't seen one of those in years. This will be a neat project.
I'm loving the run of boats at the moment.😊 sweet
Did you change the oil before trying to start that motor Joe?
300 bucks and the motor runs, great deal
I like atf to free up piston rings but appears yours were good with 150 plus psi.
Vent hoses will save your life.. use them to vent fumes, before and during startup. That motor hold will explode, seen it first hand at lake Powell.
Jet boats are notorious for burning seals if run without water running through.
Best score yet.👍
It was a blower you need to run before starting and while running incase of spark that could blow up the closed engine compartment because of gas fumes.
I'm a bike guy, but your boat content is great.
Fix the hose to the engine compartment fan. Run the fan a few minutes before you start the engine to be sure that you suck any gasoline fumes out of the engine compartment. This is to be sure that you do not get a fire in the engine compartment! Applies to all boats with an inboard! 😲
Great find brother 👏
