Boats are fun to work on. Extra deep cycle battery for the trolling motor is a must. When launching by myself I use a 20 foot rope to tie to the boat and trailer neck. Un hook the winch hook that rope up to the boat. Back it up and the boat slides off hooked to the trailer at the other end. Pull the boat and trailer up with truck. Saves from getting wet. Awesome project.
Finally you managed to catch fish. In my opinion, this is the best TH-cam channel in the world. Great video, I hope you continue your work, it's very interesting to watch your work. ❤
Man I am always impressed by how far you are able to go with every project... How do you always make such a success of your projects?
You turned it into a great little boat! Perfect fishing boat great job!
Boat's looking tight. Ive had so much fun on aluminum hulls. Beats dealing with rotted wood/fiberglass.
i was thinking the same, I want to get something like that one easy to maintain and something that will last a while and avoid buying a used wood/fiberglass boat that will just rot out.
The boat turned out good. Something to be proud of for sure. Hope you have lots of success making memories with it for years to come. Thank you for sharing the build and details with us.
You came out great on price. You’ve got a beautiful boat. Nice work. Have fun and thanks for sharing the process. Hugely appreciated the series.
Not a bad total. Now you have a nice boat to enjoy for years to come. Just remember to do that water pump every other year, and randomly check the lower unit gear oil throughout the year to make sure it's not milky. Also a good idea to pull the prop every now and then to make sure there's no fishing line wrapped around the prop shaft. That can tear up the shaft seal and let water in the lower unit. Ask me how I know. lol
Little tip for the future, when you're installing a new shaft seal over a stepped shaft put a little piece of clear tape around the stepped part to prevent lip damage.
Brilliant. You've got yourself a great boat.
I am old now, so I’m not as much thought as reminded of things I’ve learned in the past. Your dad either did a great job teaching you small engines and so forth or you had a part-time job with somebody who is very good at teaching it if you learned it on your own more power to you, but I enjoy your channel! And every episode, I am reminded of something I have learned in the past, at least if not more! Thank you.
Super nice and super quality restore! I'm guessing you are running the trolling motor off your main battery? If so, be sure to take your jump starter on trips to ensure that you can start the motor if you end up draining the battery too far (check your 25 amp reserve time for your battery as this will tell you how long you can run the trolling motor).
Cool project! I always like to see derelict boats get a new life.
I'd have removed the whole trim motor & pump assembly and put it in a vise to work on it to begin with. You could then easily cycle the cylinder up & down with a 12v power source when you completed repairs.
I get it with $$$ for marine stuff, being a boat owner myself. You know the drill, BOAT = bring out another thousand($$)!
Great video series, you got all bases covered, Joe! Thanks for another cool video.
Not a bad price for the quality of boat you wound up with.
Im still concerned about the lack of floatation foam. Swamp that boat & it goes straight to the bottom. Floatation foam keeps the boat at the surface of the water even if it's swamped, which could save lives! With no foam the boat just becomes an anchor!
You should consider removing sections of flooring to install new foam-- particularly at the stern and under the bow platform. The stern needs a lot to offset the motor and the bow platform has room for enough to offset much of the rest. You can reference the factory foam quantity & placement by reviewing your demo video. When you are rebuilding your own boat you have the opportunity to overengineer what the factory may have cheaped out on... I call it 'doing it right'.
Line the compartments with plastic film & fill with 2 part liquid mix. Get it where they sell wholesale fiberglass repair materials. You have to mix it & get it in place fast, but it's really fun to watch! You don't want the mess from an overfill, so measure carefully & double check your math.
Fantastic fishing boat also great value please do more videos on boats you did a brilliant job! Alan Northern Ireland 👍
loved watching through this. I'm working with my brother and dad to restore a 1986 Alumacraft Lunker 16 SS and seeing yours done definitely brought some more motivation. We had to do the transom plywood in ours, it has been a JOB. Great work!
Nice hammerspanner 😂
Super stoked to see it all come together brother. your thoroughness is bar none, the best. can't wait for the next series on the UTV.
Tilt and Trim assemblies are a PAIN to work on as you have found out... Great job BTW.
The jokes about pulling that pin scene should be funny! Lol
Really enjoyed the whole boat series. Thanks for the video's Joe.
This was an awesome project to watch and to follow! I also liked the fishing session at the end. 👍👍
44:00 A little tip for circumsrances like this: just add a biminitop!
It not only protects you for the sun if it gets really hot but gives you also cover and shelter for (heavy) rainshowers. I can't miss mine anymore since I installed it. 😎
Great video and Kudos on the restoration, my only question is, and I can't understand, why haven't you replaced that damaged prop? the vibration from that could destroy your lower end.
A Good and Informative Series Joe. Thanks for taking a chance and picking up an old Boat.
At first, I thought, Oh, a Boat, get the engine running and tidy up the rest and Joe will have an OK Boat.
Then you started taking apart the boat's interior. Oh My! Everything was Rotten or half way Rotten. Forcing you to replace a great deal of it. I thought then, Oh Oh, nothing like Ugly surprises. But, you did what needed to be done. Took it down to the bare essentials and started the Rebuild.
This boat was expensive in the amount of time needed to take it from where it started, to where it is today. But, now you have a respectable boat to go out and do some Fishing, or just Screwing around. And for less than $3000? Not bad at all. And your time? Well, there is that. But, Personal time spent doing something like this boat, ends up being way more beneficial than sitting around with a 6 pack, watching the Packers, or Twins.
Thumbs Up on the entire Series Joe.
Now to start those fishing series. 🎣
I really enjoyed your boat restore videos. You did a great job reviving the boat. The total was not as much as I thought it would be. I'm still hung up on the damage to the prop. I haven't priced a prop in a while but an imbalanced prop does wear on the output shaft so I suggest looking at a replacement somewhere down the road. Your "Sweat Equity" is a major cost factor but if you enjoy working on projects I would call that a wash. You have me fired up on finding a project of my own starting my retirement. I have my eye on something similar, if the motor is good I'll be working on that in my shop over the winter months. Enjoy the boat.
Joe makes over $750k a year making these videos on TH-cam. It wasnt a wash at all ;) He gets paid to do it lol
Great job on that old tub... enjoy!!!
You took a pile of what looked like junk and turned it into a very functional boat.Looks great
Great Job! The boat is looking good and running well. Beautiful scene on the lake, water smooth as glass. Leave some fish for the rest of us.
Totally enjoyed the whole process well done.
You know funny part Joe ?? That looks identical to the electric lift on a plow setup which are easy to find used. Plus seals probably would have fit that one for way cheaper. But great job fixing it
Nice hammer wrench multi tool joe 😂
Great job, Joe! Nice work and thank you
I enjoyed watching this video, great job. I did know that you fried the impeller on the first trip. You had the motor running without it trimmed down into the water. It only takes about 45 seconds to do some damage. Just a word of caution: I've been told by boat mechanics that you should never run an outboard above idle speed with muffs on it. Although it gets water it's not enough water pressure at higher RPM's
Well true to the acronym you busted out another thousand.
Norm, good to see you. I hope you recuperate from this Covid. I have my notifications turned on, so I hope I hear more from you this summer..
Mmmmm, what a lovely boat, I would keep that forever
The seal leaking on the cylinder should not have caused it to not build pressure. The pressure is built up on the pressure side of the piston not on the rod end of the piston. You were likely low on hydraulic fluid due to the leakage on the seal. you could like have found a $3 seal and saved youself a lot of expence and trouble!
Yes but that makes for short video
Joe I had one of the first auto pilots years ago and the problem I ran into with that is the contacts for the steering and sometimes the speed adjustment I found which was my brother told me to take some contact cleaner clean off the contacts then put some stylec grease on there on the contacts and once I started doing that that eliminated all of my problems those contacts will corrode very easily if they're left out in the weather and obviously that's probably a set out in the weather gain moisture that's why it's doesn't respond quickly just a thought thank you for another great video always wondered how that trim motor worked That's nice to see that it's not as complicated I thought it would be
Good job, years ago i had the same thing on my trim pump, but that pin you got out with the slap hammer was a nightmare
they always say the best time to fish is when its raining and when its not!! and the best time to sell your boat is when its running perfect!!! good luck !!! thanks for he videos
That boat turned out very nice.
Wow you have done a very fine job on this project. Would have thought however , you'd have give the piston shaft a good clean , to ensure the o ring had a better chance of survival. About four inches down the shaft, looked to need a little tlc ,
hey been watching for year you do a great job bud keep fix things you like !!
GREAT JOB JOE (AGAIN AS ALWAYS)
Nice job! Toss a Yum Dinger around on a wacky rig in shade. You’ll catch some nice bass
Great job! I bought a new boat and motor (basic jon boat 15 hp 4stk motor) for $5800 and now I am putting money into floors and other parts! So you have a beautiful boat for less than a third of what I will spend once mine is done!
Hey Joe you should add one of those kits for drop top canopy & adjustable locking.,an pivoting mounting brackets for rainy.,or stormy weather out with security straps.,an tie down stabilizers to keep it fixed to the boat top down to the boat hule.,an buckle towing loop rings.,or T-tugs for towing either one.
The rain saw you coming. Great video.
You did a awesome job on the boat
Well done. I hope your new rebuilt boat ⛵ brings you many years of good fishing and relaxation. Maybe get a solar panel or a portable solar generator. For the battery. 😀. Nice job
Dude....totally enjoyed the series of you bringing the old Alumacraft boat back to life ! Your one heck of a mechanic...the only way to learn is hands on. .thats how I learn everything. By the way , what year is that boat? I have a Alumacraft Escape 165 2017 and absolutely love it. You might think you spent alot, but you saved alot more in labor.. probally more than the cost of what you paid for the boat. Again really good video's and well directed for my taste.
Nice work, that came out great.
Great job joe boat looks awesome 😎 can’t wait for ya next project
Those Minn Kota Power Drive 2's are a nice mid range trolling motor. The foot petals like to clunk out after a while, at least you can still get replacements for them for reasonable. The 1st gen power drive options are dwindling. Co-pilot is a must have on yours.
Joe awesome fishing boat! Nice job👍👍👍
Suddenly liking vintage Mercury tilt design way better.
You can get a plug for the trolling motot at a boat store, marina or bass pro shops. Its a standard 12 volt trolling motor plug.
You and mustie are my main ones Sunday mustie posts so 2 great u tubers today
Awesome video as always man. I would love to see lots more fishing videos 🐠
Love this project, something many "shade tree mechanics" can tackle. Now leaving for the Pro Bass Tour?
Great series, love your content
Great video joe I fish a lot in south Texas iv caught lots of fish right before a storm or right after storm no matter what the weather always a good time to go catch fish!
All I can say little buddy you’re living the life keep doing what you’re doing
Long as the plywood isn't messed up, you can return it.
Turned out brilliant
Boat turned out pretty nice 👌
LOOKS AWESOME
That’s a nice smooth motor I had the Johnson 50 on my 16 foot lowe bass boat. Word of advice, make sure all short ropes are off the boat. Nothing like tying your brand, new anchor to a short rope, and throwing it into the water, standing there, looking dumbfounded trying to figure out what you just did.
Love the channel and this series. I have one minor suggestion. Consider adding a good sized backing plate under the trolling motor(under the gunnel). Waves, trailering and just the thrust from the motor can take their toll over time. I think the boat was well worth the $!
Nice boat, definitely a keeper, I love smaller boats
So depressed and sad right now this helps a little bit everything that could go wrong has.
Heck yeah man now you got it ready for some real time bass fishing with that Zoom GreenPumkin Magic trick worm on that Texas rig. I use the 1/8th ounce bullet weight on my Texas rig lol. If you've never tried this color get a bag of'em man you won't regret it I promise ya lol.
Take it back to where you got it, and show it to them!
Use your fish finder/ depth finder to locate the fish.
I thought it was going to be way more money into it..keeping it or sell it?
keeping it
Good Lord you have patience! In retrospect, I'm thinking you could have just replaced the bad O rings instead of that whole expensive part? In fact, I would have replaced all of them since you went thru all that trouble. Great job!
Great job
nice trolling motor! i love my minn kota they are great.
Bro great vid. you could use a bimini top and a couple of rod holders. Definitely cover the battery area just looks unfinished. Not bad for a boat less than 3000.00 Your time is invaluable can't put a dollar amount on the knowledge you learned. great vids looking forward to the next boat build.
Nice job. I'm glad the gland didn't fight you to the last thread.Didn't like seeing that new gland pushed over that paint edge on the rod though.
Great job on the yacht. Keep up the hard work, subs way up, views hitting 100k
Nice 👍🏼
Great job man
Excellent video
great boat.
gr8 video got a brand new boat
Brother you definitely have some mad skills love your videos I am a subscriber
Trolling motor mounts at an angle and closer to point of bow. Also, you store it flat not sticking up. Look around at other boats and you won’t see any stowed laying that way. I hope the rig serves you well.
Looks great, I used to flip boats until I worked up till the one I wanted.
I see we're trying a new thumbnail style, nice!
just for this video haha
@@2vintage Nah man, I dig it! It looks nice! Keep it up!
Had a good friend of mine undertake a project very similar to yours that came with a two-stroke 40hp Mercury. Almost shocking how fast it would go with the two of us in it!
I think you should check on the Transport position of the trolling motor. I think it should be horizontal and not vertical. your cover will fit better.
Joe, whenever you do anything with the motor hydraulics, use a strap to secure the motor so it doesn't move FIRST.
I can't tell you the number of busted fingers I've seen due to motors falling down.
Allan in Columbia, SC
Joe you stole the boat! The makeover came out really nice. The motor if 20hp is $3K alone new. Easy sell at $7.5K in lake region like yours. 40 hours of labor at $75 an hour =$3K. You make $2K profit. If you do this again use 3/4” marine plywood.
Nice boat man would love to have one
Those are great little motors from a guy in Florida.
Cool 😎 looking good 👍
