I have a disabled son. This is one of my favorite episodes. Working with Bently and watching you spark his brain is inspirational. I wish soooo much that I could have that relationship with my son. I love the family interaction and would love to see more. Best wishes.
I hope you can find a suitable connection with your son through Lego, Meccano or even just pulling a lawnmower apart and putting it back together. I am the primary carer for my disabled brother and we have Great times together.
My dad used to not do much with me because he didn't think I could do much with my disability. It took guys like Derek on the internet teaching me things so I can get in the shop and start doing it myself. There's always something you can do.

As a Brit who watches hour upon hour of TH-cam videos, thank you Derek for restoring my opinion of (and hope for) your amazing country. You are knowledgeable and wise, and clearly have an amazing family to whom you are a pretty solid father
Just remember, for every idiotic American you see in media, there are thousands that you never hear a peep from. Same goes vice versa… it’s why I get so frustrated with people on the US side of the pond disparaging you all; any of our grievances against your gov’t, or the silliness that makes its way over here through media, shouldn’t be directly reflected upon all of you. It’s quite saddening how reactionary and simple minded people are becoming, though a quick history lesson shows it’s a disturbing cycle we’re in. Best of luck over there; I’m sure people aren’t any less caustic than they can be over here!
I agree, Derek and his family are the real Americans, there are a few other very fine families in UTAH on similar paths that a man follows for the same reason,
It's not so much the headlights that jeepers hate. Well, yeah, it is a bit of it lol but it's mostly the suspension setup. The suspension is a lot lower from the factory. So it takes a lot more lift to get you where you want to be compared to the previous cj or the TJ/LJ that followed it.
@@nathanwoten6236.. it aint the ride height. The suspension is covered wagon technology so getting to where you want to be isn't a big deal.. it's definitely the headlights...lol
Derek, you’re a freaking awesome dad! It’s really impressive watching how patient you are with your son. There will probably be a day when he wants to do something different, keep him here with you. He will look back as a grown man and cherish every memory. God bless
Derek, just one comment. You are the best dad ever. Sharing time with Bradley is one thing, but getting him time behind and in front of the camera, teaching him a skil?. Priceless.
I have been watching you for a few years and I have to say that the times I like the best when you do these things with your son's. Melts my heart. Great parenting at it's best!
Truly enjoy the banter between father and son. Simple questions and simple answers, no question too simple not to deserve an answer. This young man respects his dad’s knowledge without reserve. He knows that he has so much to learn from this man. Derek you’re doing a wonderful job with your boys. 👍👍🇨🇦
One on one time teaching and interacting will give the kid a serious advantage. The role of fathers is under-valued nowadays, but Derek's giving that boy the best kind of two-parent experience.
I really enjoy the father son relationship they have. Alot of fathers are too impatient with their kids and expect too much. For me its the best most meaningful part of the video.
That kid of yours is gonna be one heck of a good mechanic when he's done. Bentley seems to know the basics already and he asks the right questions to learn even more. I love watching you work with both the boys.
I just love seeing a young man turning wrenches and not looking at a phone all day, Thanks for Sharing this video and We hope you were all safe during the storm. Take Care Stay Safe.
Made me smile that you are teaching your son to work on cars. Him explaining what he did to the cap and rotor was awesome. Let your kiddo know he rocks.
I like how he says that behemouth battery is 180lbs before effortlessley hauling it off while not even stopping dialogue. Derek Ver Magnussen over here.
Your attention to detail with your son is the closest thing I've ever seen to what type of Man i want to be. I lost my Dad before I graduated High School. I want more people to experience what caring love feels like. Love you and your brain.
Had to pause the video to say I love how young Bently immediately recognized the drive shaft is short and the transmission is long, because dad has had him underneath long old GM boats his entire existence. Kid is going places, and with all the boomers retiring we're going to need guys like him desperately in the next 10-20 years. 👍👍❤
My son and I rebuilt a 65 F100 and it was the best time i have had as a dad. So nice to see that young man with great manners and willing to learn with you. Keep up the great work Derek.
There is a patience to mechanical work that my father did not have and I have taken it upon myself to finger it out and have used fixing and rebuilding as a metaphor for recovery from brain injury. You are so blessed with your demeanor and teaching with your sons. All parents are just figuring things out and you folks engage your kids very well with love and guidance, Thanks for sharing that with others. Perhaps the world will slowly shift back to more of that moral authority one video at a time. God Bless!
always good to see the apprentice asking tons of questions and the pop answering them all matter of factly...kind of makes an old feller like me remember the good old days when i was the apprentice
Had to make a second comment, Derek…. @43:28 This touched a fellers heart. The absolute love and pride that you show for all of your sons is just amazing. Just had to point that out. Stay blessed, my friend.
Great video. Awesome to see Bentley jumping in to help. You’re kind and polite and respectful of him and that’s what a good dad should be. Thanks for the entertainment and teaching.

@@MarianoLu just to add to all this (I replied above yours a bit ago), I was thinking it had something to do with the small size of engine bay and the heat build up. At least, somewhere in the back of my mind I remember something to that effect. I’m 50 now, first Jeep was back in high school, a 1991 Wrangler. After that, I had many, as I alluded to in another post on this video. If I could have owned every single iteration of Jeep ever made, I would lol. Still love them after all these years, flaws and all.
What I really appreciate about your relationship with your boys is that each teachable moment is a true teaching moment. No condescension, no belittling, just honest education in the moment. For all your sarcasm and fun humor, you clearly care about raising those kids right. Good for you, and good for society :)

I learned a lot about cars in the process. Watching you work with your boys brings back good memories...I miss my pop.....thanks for the videos.....

I am from Saskatchewan as well and I am 48. Love VVG and wish he would come up here and save one of the numerous old vehicles rotting in the tree and hills. I owned a 87 YJ and it was the worst vehicle I ever owned.
I bought a totally rust free 1987 Wrangler 5 speed 6 cylinder back in February. My first Jeep and I love it. Can’t believe I waited so long to buy one.
Your ability to go through an engine and drivetrain quickly and know exactly what it needs, to run and drive, sets you apart from the rest. Amazing job man.
I bought a 95 last fall that sat in a garage over a decade and didn't run because of a failed fuel pump. The previous owner pulled the tank to change it out but never did the work. Brought it back to life and it runs like a champ.
I watch Roadworthy Rescues and now your TH-cam videos. I must say I love to see your sons get involved. It seems Bentley is the most interested, but his learning and help as well as your full support is super amazing. I absolutely love seeing this. Thank you for allowing him to help you and learn from the experience. And, thank you for sharing these very special memories you’re making with him.

I actually like the 80's colors on the sides. I can just imagine when this was new, someone was probably having fun driving around with 80's music playing, back when the world was a better place IMO. Also the sound of the rain while working in the garage is super relaxing to me.
Not only is this a good revival video on cars, this is also an awesome father figure video. A dad here who is really enjoying the content and taking notes. Thank you so much for the help!

I'm so glad you get to do this with your son. I soooo wanted to do this with my Ex- Step-son when the time came. It wasnt meant to be. I think about this often. I still see him but its not the same. I'm so thankful you have this relationship with your children......

I bought a 1990 Jeep ,that had been rolled, stripped it for the good stuff, put in my 1992 , had Jasper engine, had fantastic oil pressure, rebuild auto trans, Rancho suspension, Bora exhaust. 31”tires. All for 800$. I live in Az. No rust. Jeeps are real fun rides.. Enjoy your videos, thanks.

A guy just got home after a long day at work fixing cars all day and get treated to a fellars video. So i did the right thing and clicked on it and liked it as soon as it came up. Wish you and the family well, thanks for all of the entertainment 👍
I'm a CJ owner but still have a fondness for the YJs. Hell, even the TJs are good Jeeps. But I would never own anything beyond the TJ. The last of the newer model Jeeps will be carried to the boneyard behind a TJ.
I owned an 89 YJ for about 2 years before my family outgrew it and I had to sell it. But I fell in love with it. And I agree with you, the TJ is definitely the last of good Jeeps. And don't get me started on those 4 door things that call themselves a Jeep.
I love the YJ's though I never have owned 1 yet - still looking! I wonder if ya can take a TJ running gear n mate it to a YJ body/Interior? That would be great!
My brother got me watching you over a year ago. We both absolutely love your revivals. He keeps saying he really would like to see what all is in your fleet now. Guessing maybe we all are curious of which have been a keeper and what has been sent on down the road over the years. Thanks for all you do saving these wonderful pieces.
The one thing for that stands out is the way you treat your son. I think everyone out there would agree that you are an amazing Father/Parent! You treat you son with love and respect! I love this channel for your mechanical abilities and your family values!
Derek, you really fell into the Good hole rabbit hole on this one! To find a 1988 Wrangler with a great body/frame and a rebuilt 258 six with a Webber 2 barrel running that good! Wow!
Derek: Among "Jeep" people (of which I am one) you are working on a 4.0. I put 175000 miles on one in my 94 cherokee sport. The confusion with the "4 cyl" was probably in there somewhere. Dont forget that flat towing shows on the odometer as regular miles. How many miles on your rig???? Hard to say.
You are incorrect, sir. I was a Jeep salesman in 1990, and the pushrod 4.2 was the 6 until '91, when the OHC 4.0 debuted. More hp, but less torque. The 4.0 is BASED on the 4.2, however.
@@JeffKopis Jeeps have been my "going to town" rig for nearly 30 years. For me "4.0" is just slang for this whole group of Jeep engines. The 4.2/4.0 were strictly pushrod engines. The 4.0 was discontinued after the 2006 model year. OHC Jeeps came later.
Hey Derek, I just wanted to tell you that I'm so glad I came upon you channel, albeit two years ago, this is the first time I'm writing you. I just want you to know I recently purchased a 09 Wrangler as a hobby/Pre-Project retirement driver, and bang there you are with your Wrangler. Truly with the tips and motivation from your channel I’ve been able to turbo my 1995 Miata….every video gets me all excited to go tinker on it… thus I named her tinker bell. I can’t thank you enough for the culture you inspire through your channel. I’m also from the Midwest so the humor is spot on for my taste I cannot say enough good things thanks again Derrick
I dubbed my ride Our Lady of Perpetual Maintenance which is awkward because it doesn't quite go on a license plate frame and be reasonably legible at 50+ feet. Oh well.
These square headlight jeeps aren't a true jeep in My opinion. They still ok . But newer jeeps aren't near as cool or tough. Early 80 to mid 80s is where they went down hill. Not being a hater. The new ones are cool for looks. But toughness. Not so much
Derek I just want to say you and the channel are why I decided to jump on my own ‘66 mustang project. The videos seem like an hour or two to a fixed rig, but now I understand the hours of research, forums, learning and figuring out that goes into it. Keep on keeping on brother
About time for a Jeep. Just a bit of history, I own a one owner, Dad bought new in Peoria Illinois. 1947 Willys CJ2a setting in the garage. Learned how to drive in it at age 10 and have had it all these years. Am now 74 and still cruise in it. 327 chev in it now but otherwise totally 47 Jeep. It has been sitting since the late 80’s due to transmission issues. It’s in pretty rough shape. Anyhow, it is located at my in-laws ranch in Shawmut Montana. Reach out to me if you’re interested.
Dont throw the lightbar away! I had one sitting on my bench near a little battery I test stuff with and it lit my 30x40 shop up good enough to get another beer. It seriously worked great.
The fact that your boy can find 'random' items from nowhere means you are being an excellent teacher! Yep, all that messing around with stuff - it's definitely a Jeep thing!

Square headlights are trash!
❤
My dad used to not do much with me because he didn't think I could do much with my disability. It took guys like Derek on the internet teaching me things so I can get in the shop and start doing it myself. There's always something you can do.
@@Studio23Mediathats the spirit. Keep it up and you'll go further than you ever imagined. Sending you good vibes all the way from Ireland.
Your youngest son Bentley is a really good human. All of them are sir. A huge help. I love the way you guys raise your kids. It's heartwarming to see. God bless you.
Something about you guys fixing that Jeep with the rain.. it was a very relaxing watch... I vote for more garage during rain content.
I love that boy's inquisitive nature. He's soaking it all up, Dad, great job!
Thanks 👍
Bentley is pretty cool.
Bentley idolizes his dad and that's good.
@@garysimonson9593 Asks his boys if they are having fun or askes if they see what they learn as interesting. They respond very positively which is very impressive.
As a Brit who watches hour upon hour of TH-cam videos, thank you Derek for restoring my opinion of (and hope for) your amazing country. You are knowledgeable and wise, and clearly have an amazing family to whom you are a pretty solid father
Much like the UK, only the imbeciles get on TV here in the US.....They make us all look bad..
As another Brit who also watches TH-cam videos - I agree with your comments 100%
Our government may be a disaster, but at least the country is nice!
I agree, Derek and his family are the real Americans, there are a few other very fine families in UTAH on similar paths that a man follows for the same reason,
Everyone hates on the square headlight Jeeps, but as long as you have the inline engine and a manual, you get a decent Jeep.
@@nathanwoten6236Someone once told me that the ‘99 TJ was the first year Jeep got everything right. Have you ever heard that before?
I had an 04 TJ, and I can tell you it was the best I’ve had. What a unit.
@@nathanwoten6236.. it aint the ride height. The suspension is covered wagon technology so getting to where you want to be isn't a big deal.. it's definitely the headlights...lol
@@grinchlettenever head that.. but in my opinion the TJ is the last of the "good" jeeps.. love the V8 CJ's, but the 4.0 is damn near immortal
100% agreed! What a great role model he is.
Couldn't agree more. Our favorite episodes are the ones where the kids are involved in the work too.
And your cats too!
Thanks for watching!
@@ViceGripGarage Thank you for responding. And we'll continue to watch and hope to do so for many years.

Bentley is such a great young lad. Love your relationship working and teaching him so much.
As a new Dad, it's great seeing you interact with your son. It seems like such a healthy and comfortable relationship. Dad goals for sure.
I have a 1993 YJ with the 4.0 and 5 speed. They are simple and easy to wrench on. No laptop, no scan tool. Just good old fashioned nuts and bolts.
Jurassic Park
My buddy had one in high school in the mid 90s and he beat the snot out of that poor thing and it never left us stranded
Muscle car guy here. Got a Jeep on impulse, it’s much more fun than I ever imagined. You will enjoy it!
Nice to see the youngest person you are responsible for. He is always a positive addition to the mission.
My son and I rebuilt a 65 F100 and it was the best time i have had as a dad. So nice to see that young man with great manners and willing to learn with you. Keep up the great work Derek.
Your compliments towards Bentley are absolutely priceless...your a good man Mr. D
Absolutely, the time spent he will never forget
I love to see Derek and the kids doing father and son stuff. Reminds me of me and my dad. Those memories will last forever.
You can see the way he smiles at the little guy. Great bonding again.
Man I wish I had a dad like Derek growing up, your sons are so lucky!
Watching you work on your cars with your kid puts a big ol’ smile on my face. Rewarding to watch where so much on TV is causing us pain and misery this offers me healing from those wounds. Thank you.
I’ve had 2 wranglers and they run at 210 degrees no matter what. Glad to see you’ve done a Jeep. Good Luck and Thanks for all you do
All mine ran at 210. I got scared when I saw 215 and up
I was about to type this. All mine in those years range ran that same temp.

The automobile manufactures had set their thermostats very low within early designs; they used water only, then added pressure to increase boiling temperature; later coolant with higher boiling and lower freezing temperatures. gradually through extensive SAE testing, verification, the knowledge for optimum operating temperatures for maximum efficiency, minimal wear were measured to be consistent; gradually the manufactures increased the thermostat temperatures, operating temperature standards to match the established, known SAE data from 1972-4, especially with computer, ECM, ECU, control.
You are hands down the best father I've seen on utube.... or anywhere recently. Your thoughtfulness, attentiveness, and constant positive enforcement are amazing. 👍❤️🎉
I remember my dad teaching me to work on our old '55 Chevy station wagon. He first taught me to change brake shoes on drum brakes. From then on, I was in charge of the brakes. I learned a lot from my dad & I miss him dearly. Cheers from eastern TN
Dad taught me curse words 😂
I grew up working on cars with my Dad holding a flashlight, grabbing a wrench, scrapping gaskets, wiping down tools and searching for nuts or bolts in the junk box.. I learned a lot about cars in the process. Watching you work with your boys brings back good memories...I miss my pop.....thanks for the videos.....
Thank you, Derek for all you do. I recently had a stroke caused blindness at age 48. I was a big fan of your videos before I went blind and now even more I look forward to seeing them every Friday no pun intended just a good old Saskatchewan warm boy, I think you’ll love the Jeep. Have fun and stay safe.
I am from Saskatchewan as well and I am 48. Love VVG and wish he would come up here and save one of the numerous old vehicles rotting in the tree and hills. I owned a 87 YJ and it was the worst vehicle I ever owned.
Sorry for your misfortune fellow Canadian. I’m 70 years old and bedridden. Keep your chin up friend.
Thanks so much!
I'm a Dutch computer guy with no affiliation to cars in any way or form. And I've seen almost all your video's. I really love this channel!
Its a great way to learn about cars
I bought a 95 last fall that sat in a garage over a decade and didn't run because of a failed fuel pump. The previous owner pulled the tank to change it out but never did the work. Brought it back to life and it runs like a champ.
I watch Roadworthy Rescues and now your TH-cam videos. I must say I love to see your sons get involved. It seems Bentley is the most interested, but his learning and help as well as your full support is super amazing. I absolutely love seeing this. Thank you for allowing him to help you and learn from the experience. And, thank you for sharing these very special memories you’re making with him.
Long time watcher of a feller. I dare say this may very well be the best episode EVER !
Working with Bentley, him asking questions, being a go-fer, and the pride I feel oozing from a fellers pores while filming him wrench is heartwarming. Thanks for the memories.
Why do you talk like a hillbilly from 40 years ago?
Oh, he'll be a home wrench at least! He gets it.
Hey, Derek
Long time Fan,
I am a Mechanic and Welder of 30 years, was watching this episode, don't get rid of that motor, it's easy to fix, the parts are cheap and you can find them anywhere, that motor was indestructible.
My Wife and I love your Show!

In 20 years Bently will be one of the last few who will know how to work on old cars.
The Father son bonding is great to see, more kids need to get out in the shop and learn before we are all gone to learn from.
I'm so glad you get to do this with your son. I soooo wanted to do this with my Ex- Step-son when the time came. It wasnt meant to be. I think about this often. I still see him but its not the same. I'm so thankful you have this relationship with your children......
Brings back memories.
Dad, "You'll fit in there." Or " Your little hands will fit."
You can change that. He didn’t know what to do. You can change it if you want to. Which seems you do.
Poor kid is on his third "dad" at least
I love watching you work with your kids!! Reminds me of dad and I. Dad passed 3 years ago and I miss wrenching with him!!
Thanks Derek and Bentley for helping me by bringing back good memories!!😊
reminds me of when I was a kid, keeping my dads 62 willys running so we could plow snow around the property in the winter. Some of my best memories. Loved this video
Don't want to pressure a feller, but after watching this episode, I am already counting down to next Friday's episode!!! You've turned me into a VGG junkie!! Brilliant episode as usual. I have been a teacher for 30 + years, watching you work alongside your son is wonderful, he catches on quick, he's learning and you're a great teacher.
💯👍😎
A guy just got home after a long day at work fixing cars all day and get treated to a fellars video. So i did the right thing and clicked on it and liked it as soon as it came up. Wish you and the family well, thanks for all of the entertainment 👍
Had one…fan clutch and thermostat issues but not supposed to run hot! Rough ride but fun!😎👍
Quadratec is your one stop shop for Jeep parts. Had a YJ, wheeled it all over. Very capable Jeep.
1 second in. I see rectangular headlights. Yes. A YJ project from VGG. Lets go.
I’ve been waiting for a Jeep video. Even better that it’s a YJ.
I love the YJ's though I never have owned 1 yet - still looking! I wonder if ya can take a TJ running gear n mate it to a YJ body/Interior? That would be great!
I must admit, you handle your product placements much more gracefully than most channels.
It’s so cool having a boy to listens to you & answers your silly questions. Means they’re tuned in & on same page as dad is.
The one thing for that stands out is the way you treat your son. I think everyone out there would agree that you are an amazing Father/Parent! You treat you son with love and respect! I love this channel for your mechanical abilities and your family values!
You are so kind
Derek and VGG is the most reliable source of entertainment out there, every Friday evening I know what I’m doing! Thanks Derek and Fam!!
What an amazing father and son duo at fixing a car. Heartwarming and a great example of what we should all aim for as parents. 10/10 best video yet!
@@JeffKopis you almost got it, however its not OHC
I became inspired to wrench again now more than ever, it's been a few decades. Thank you. Keep the revivals coming, and keep on a wrenching.
Jeep has a good layout, minus the heater core. Heater core on 1997-2006 requires a dash pull.
Truly with the tips and motivation from your channel I’ve been able to turbo my 1995 Miata….every video gets me all excited to go tinker on it… thus I named her tinker bell. I can’t thank you enough for the culture you inspire through your channel. I’m 23 years old bow and I bought the car when I was 18 blew up the original motor decided to start fresh with a new built motor and turbo it….may have been more than I could handle at the time luckily this channel came along around 3 years ago for me and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Oh well.
I love the way you’re teaching your son Derek.
I appreciate that!
10 minutes in and I can feel that Derek isn't excited about Jeeps and tbh those are my favorite episodes, where the derision is genuine
Pretty funny comments for sure from Derek.
Maybe someone should convince him to buy a Subaru next 😂
NO to the Subaru idea.YUCK!
So easy to install a SB and did install front disks but its a climber. Good for you!!!!

The fact that your boy can find 'random' items from nowhere means you are being an excellent teacher! Yep, all that messing around with stuff - it's definitely a Jeep thing!
Bentley is the MAN. What a great helper. Won’t be long until he’s doing the “Run and Drive” videos on his own.😆. His own channel, “Little Grip Garage” has really grown.
