When i did the economics 101 unit at university decades ago, we were taught that, under the theories of capitalist economics ‘competition’ would prevent excess profits. Which meant that, technically, billionaires shouldnt exist under capitalist economics, because competition should whittle prices and profits to a minimum. Even my professors teaching that unit openly stated the theory underlying our economic system was false - because those conditions never exist in the real world. We live in a system, worldwide, that is a gigantic lie. And once again, people are starting to see the lie very clearly. The question is, how do we change the system peacefully, before it collapses violently, as it has done so many times before throughout history. Democracy should mean we can peacefully change this, but the unjust economic system has reached out to prevent even that.
I'd so much hope too. Bernie should've received nomination in 2016 & 2020. Now I've no hope whatsoever - absolutely no hope. Since the beginning of time up until just 1 century ago, the 1920's, there were circa 1.25 billion on this planet & now 8.5 billion humans. The human species has destroyed this planet. Bernie was the ONLY person with the common sense that would have saved this planet for many future generations but actually & as a matter of scientific fact it's now too late. If by maximum wage you also mean money earned through non-salary/non-hourly/non-tip means such as stock options, etc., then yes -- if you don't put a cap on that, then the rich just jack up prices until they get minimum wage earners back down to grinding poverty. This is not theoretical -- they're already doing it. Because wealth isn't just about Greed -- it's also about Envy.
@@braceyourselvesfortruth2492 Sure it does. No one should be allowed to "earn" more than a specific amount, guaranteeing that the rest go where it will help the most people the most. If the Democrats had campaigned on these issues, they would have won, but they’re too afraid of upsetting their wealthy donors. Instead, they chose to focus on topics that don’t affect every American. Yes, LGBTQ rights are important, but it’s hard for people to care about that when they have to work two jobs and are still barely able to survive. The same goes for women’s reproductive rights not even all women in the U.S. care enough about this issue to vote, so how can they expect to rally men around it? Similarly, with student loan relief, those who paid off their loans by being frugal are going to feel bitter about others receiving relief while they lived a basic life to pay theirs off as quickly as possible. And the list goes on. Issues like raising the minimum wage, fair taxation based on income, free healthcare, nationwide improvements in education with free meals for kids-these are topics that everyone can get behind. But instead, the Democrats built their campaign around issues that primarily affect minorities. I also believe the majority of Americans don’t want their tax money being used to provide free healthcare for Israelis while funding the killing of children with American taxpayer money.

The Associated Press (led by 3 journalists) strategically announced that Hillary Clinton had already wrapped up the delegate count for the Democratic nomination, on the eve of the June California Democratic Primary. That news article was published by the Wall Street Journal evening edition, at exactly 8pm PST ( for prime-time news outlets) the night before the primary, and the record-setting pre-primary registration of young voters that spring, actually resulted in the 2nd lowest voter turnout in modern California election history, giving Hilary Clinton the victory. The Associated Press/Wall Street Journal announcement the night before was perfectly orchestrated, giving Hilary Clinton the primary win, with the largest batch of state delegates to the Democratic Convention.

Right. If it has to get worse before it gets better, so be it. Unfortunately, there are many who won't make it through that very well. But the election has happened, and we must resist what we can.
I would have agreed some years ago. Third party from the left will ONLY HELP THE REPUBLICANS stay in perpetual power. They have redistricted and gerrymandered their way to power. The Electoral College gives them a shot nationally. Even "red states" maintain their state legislatures by clustering all black, brown, and poor working class voters into 2 or 3 districts. Then there's the billionaire-funded voter suppression, purging voter roles, archaic anti-voting laws like ID requirements, no mail-in ballots, etc. Billionaires fund both parties, to be sure. However, if billionaires were restricted or if donations to PACS were eliminated - the Democrats would survive, not the GOP. The US is a plutocracy. Corrupt and at the end of a broken economic system. We live under a neofeudalist two-tiered economic hellscape. We were told in the 1980s by Reagan and followers that if all that money would go to the top they would use it to provide jobs and increased standard of living for the working class. We got a trickle. They got a massive amount.
We have a $7 minimum wage that has not changed in decades, wait staff relies on tips since the basic hourly wage is $2, working people can't afford daycare or rent or healthcare. I really hope there’s not another pandemic under trump. I am an ICU nurse who cared for COVID patients. I work in a large hospital and we saw the sickest of the sick. It is so frustrating to me when the severity of the pandemic is completely dismissed. The heath care system was on the brink of collapse and there was a great deal of collateral damage that was suffered by the mishandling of the pandemic by the Trump administration and the disinformation. We had 3 extra units open. The Navy had to come in and help us. When the vaccines were released the ones who died were overwhelmingly unvaccinated. We were being threatened with violence and the care we were providing patients was obstructed by families who did not trust us. Many of the unvaccinated patients we cared for were MAGA anti-vaxxers and their families made our lives hell. We ran out of gowns and masks. We had to reuse N95s for days. I will never forget the day when a respiratory therapist told me we were down to 1 ventilator and the dark laugh we shared wondering what would happen. The amount of nurses who quit working bedside is staggering. Anyone who worked in direct patient care during the COVID pandemic has some level of PTSD. Hospital systems have found that nurses can do more with less, when pressed, and now that is the standard. Trump and MAGA ideology has had a devastating impact on the heath care system and cannot be understated. The lesson I have learned from Trump's win is that if you tell a lie over and over and over and over again, it becomes the truth. That is exactly what he did and it worked./“

The extremely unequal distribution of wealth is directly attributable to this economic system which works for THEM, not US. Looking at the underpinnings of this economic system, once someone inherits great wealth, it's virtually impossible for them to lose it despite making poor decisions. Look at Trump -- every business venture, every real estate deal he was involved in lost lots of money -- yet he's apparently still a billionaire because the big international banks have propped him up with favorable loans. Then consider people who work at regular jobs, pay high rent, private (expensive) health care, high food costs, high transportation costs -- they aren't getting anywhere because the rich own the businesses, the housing, the health care, food, transportation -- and all your money goes to them. And if you make poor decisions there goes your cash, your home, your car, your health care & no bank will loan you money. Capitalism is an evil system from the 18th century to help the aristocracy & today it's adapted to prop up the oligarchs. We live in the 21st century & need new economics which work for all of US & not THEM.
Just look at Pg&e raising the price after CA rejected a raise. I told those voters that corporations don’t care if you vote for no wage hike they will continue upping the price every year until 30 dollars an hour is the new 10$ an hour

Billionaires should not exist. No one needs that much money.

What Senator Sanders was just saying, really makes you think.
Bernie is the best thing that could have been. What a missed opportunity. The Monopoly game won.
It can't end with Bernie, or else this country is literally doomed. We need more people like him in politics.
I do wonder what the timeline where Sanders won the primary and the election in 2016 looks like.
Hey back in the early oughts we could of had Nader. Then the DNC convinced liberal America never to try and do anything democratic ever again
I wonder why do they need more and more money? What do they do with it? Nothing will ever change only to get worse!
Good question. I like Bernie but I have never given a dime to any politician and I never will. And I wouldn't even consider giving him money. They already get more than enough money from their donor class to buy what they want. My thin wallet will not vote loudly enough since the supreme court decided that money is free speech.
Stop buying from and Bankrupt their businesses. Buy & make what you need and want, locally. Do this in less and less concentric circles outward like ripples on a pond. Follow the money ( the corrupt monies are tied to politics through religion and fear mongering war & resource exploitation) and disconnect. So stopping the resupplying of those ripples.
Also get in front of everything you want by advocating its toughest & most sincerely self accountable & reliable action.
In example: Women (and men) need to write abortion rights and law to most basic human distinction, between lawfully take action and medicinally, dont cut healthy flesh or break hypocratic oath. Because of viability, without womb of mother, public wants stronger law distinguishing from technologically antiquated Roe v. Wade.
Choice conscious Women and Men should write that Civil Rights Act with Ob/Gyn experts. Not religious and willfully ignorant who dont understand the anatomy or medical practice.

Let's go, Bernie. Third party
If we start peeling votes from the Democratic Party, we will all be doomed to something similar to the Handmaid's Tale. Don't doubt it for a second.

Short term profits are us, for decades now. Just try and stop it!
