@JHeints - Makes no sense. How is it socialism to want our taxes to go where they are most needed? E.g., going towards free education and things like raising the minimum wage, or universal healthcare (that other 1st world countries already make use of).
@JHeints - Why do we have a $700B military budget? Absolutely no need for it to be that much. Tanks are produced and just sit on lots costing taxpayers millions every year, when that money could be better spent elsewhere. Should we have to subsidize our war-hungry presidents' expenditures, brought on by fiscally poor decisions? Somehow it's fine for a snake bite to cost a camper $140k in medical bills, and also fine to be mass producing tanks for $4.3 million a unit when they won't be used by anyone... Not sure what country you're living in where college is cheap. Go to a top school or even a public 4 year university after transferring credits from a community college and you're still looking at tens of thousands a year in loans. That's not even including professions like medicine or law, where students are required to take out $200k+ in loans that definitely won't be getting paid off in two years after graduation unless you want to sleep in your car and shower at the local gym.
@JHeints - Paying anything for college is expensive by comparison when looking at other first world countries that have government funded four year degrees. Likewise, there are more than just a handful of EU nations that provide free or extremely low cost post-secondary education while also allowing access to universal healthcare; namely Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, and France. Is it any surprise, then, that most of these countries also rank among the highest in the world in terms of 'happiness'? The status quo has worked for us, and will continue to work, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a new, better standard that would fit Americans better. That's what we should strive for.
@JHeints - Are you seriously saying america doesn't have a student debt problem? Or a medical spending problem when America has the most expensive healthcare system in the world? It doesn't matter how cheap or expensive your degree is. On the whole, it is a problem, and that's undeniable.
@Oober Goober When you're literally that transphobic and/or ignorant, it's not a valid "view." well unfortunately Bernie's ideas are seen as communist when in reality he embraces the idea that Europe has implented, things like universal health care, protecting the rights of marginalized groups, and so on; half of the USA still has archaic conditioning that is stopping a leader like bernie from becoming president
Bernie is openly socialist, which, because of years of propaganda from the government, means that liberals and conservetives tend to hate him or think he's a violent stalinist extremist. In most western countries, he would just be seen as a leftist politician, but in the USA he's a radical leftist, which automatically makes him evil to those on the other side.
The simple answer is just that America has a pretty skewed view of politics compared to most of the developed Western world. Bernie is left-wing. Truly left wing. In America that makes you... essentially an extremist. A communist.
I'm from germany and I noticed that there is no country with so much fearmongering and propaganda against communism as america. I'm not defending communism in any way, but the fact that a lot of americans think that things like universal healthcare are communistic is actually pretty worrying

For Bernie, I don't like MANY of his proposals for changes and policies. However, I absolutely admire his convictions behind his statements. As you said, he has been 100% consistent with his career. I believe he is one of the very few politicians that may actually care for regular American citizens. His implementation is pretty straightforward. There are countless western European nations who already do many of his key policy desires. Nationalised healthcare is the standard for the developed world. Along with free college for many nations and a significantly more generous welfare state. When Otto Strasser realized the Nazis were neither Socialist or a party of workers so he left to form the Black Front, the left wing section of the Nazi party. In the 30s Hitler aligned himself with nationalists and conservatives who believed and supported Facism solely. Not long after that Socialists, Communists, Jews, and democrats were purged from civil service and labor unions were outlawed which goes completely against the basic tenents of Socialism. Hitler also had Gregor Strasser and other Socialists murdered to keep down the dissent. Any traces of Socialism had been extinguised by the mid-1930s. I'm not sure how you got the idea that people are uneducated for bringing up the fact that he had Socialists killed and had them removed from their jobs. That's just a fact. I'm sorry you can't change history to fit your narrative but the Nazis were nationalists and despite 'free" healthcare they did not espouse basic socialist ideals.

@JHeints - The fuck kinda college are you going to? Community? ROFL.
@JHeints - Are you seriously saying america doesn't have a student debt problem? Or a medical spending problem when America has the most expensive healthcare system in the world?
It doesn't matter how cheap or expensive your degree is. On the whole, it is a problem, and that's undeniable.

I love how Bernie never really changed his views while almost every other politician has.
sanders has been 100% consistent, honest and ethical his entire career.

i am so heartbroken that bernie didnt reach presidency, but hopefully he has inspired a new generation of people who carry and embody his values and morality and decency will one day win
I'm not a fan of Bernie, and I'm especially not a fan of Biden. Trump, even through his flaws, is better fit to run the country than Biden. For Bernie, I don't like MANY of his proposals for changes and policies. However, I absolutely admire his convictions behind his statements. As you said, he has been 100% consistent with his career. I believe he is one of the very few politicians that may actually care for regular American citizens. His beliefs behind his policies I can support, and in theory everything he says sounds like a very good thing. It's the implementations of his proposals that lose me. If the implementations were a little more realistic, then I think I would dabble in the blue. But for now, I'll stay in the red.
Also, not a fan of him preaching about political corruption and then go and back both Hillary and Biden when he falls out of the races. Honestly it may have been pressure from the Democrat Party, since he gained so much popularity and they'd want to use that to keep voters loyal to the other Democrats. I wish he would've stuck to his guns and said "screw you" to the party. I respect him, but I would've respected him a lot more if he didn't turn tail and support the same people he claims he was against.
i disagree with his policies but he’s a respectable man
His implementation is pretty straightforward.
There are countless western European nations who already do many of his key policy desires.
Nationalised healthcare is the standard for the developed world. Along with free college for many nations and a significantly more generous welfare state.
It can and does work within many very wealthy and capitalist nations.
While its portrayed as socialism, it's not. Its capitalism with a social safety net and medical and educational provision.
Having an educated and healthy population is good for business.
@kuma absolutely, a lack of understanding as to what socialism is (in respect to America) or that as you say - how most modern western nations are far more socially progressive.
It's sad because outside of the like of Sanders nobody is having the conversation to being the US in line with the rest of the developed world.
As a Brit, it's miserable to think of the considerable number of good honest hardworking Americans (along with those less fortunate) who go without healthcare.
It's a moral failing.

You can clearly tell that our government doesn't like him. They don't like Trump either, but Trump is really not good at what he does, he's just too polarizing, even for America. As a non American, I don't understand why Bernie didn't become the president. Is there anything he did to prevent people voting him?
He's too old. Also he was too honest, and consistent, and wasn't changing his spiel every two days to appeal to every demographic.
@@Defiring biden was also too old for peoples liking, that clearly wasn't the factor. democrats are just scared of actually being aggressive and fighting for progressive policies. they are weak. this era of assuming only a moderate cowardly democrat can win needs to end for america's sake
We have a two-party system, both run by corporations, the only party even marginally willing to cater to anything progressive at this point was the Democrats, and they are _really_ bad and dishonest about it because again, they serve those with the most money as well.
tl;dr, america is a two party state. as a result, the nomination process for selecting party nominees - while technically open to the general public, so given they declare party alignment in time (assuming they dont live in an open-primary state), is generally only participated in by party loyalists. its also off from the normal election day and has drastically lower participation numbers than the general election. the reality is that the method bernie took - running as a democrat in democratic primaries - was ultimately a doomed path for him to take, given the voter base he had to appeal to in the process.
