Agreed, I saw her casting and producing it. Similarly how Steven Segal has incredible vanity about his action movies. Latifah has similar vanity in her role as the equalizer.

It's also a subsystem incorporated into styles such as some historically practiced in Okinawa/Japan, US and other places. It may be more difficult to cause yourself as high a level of pain as someone else doing it to you, plus you can't do the seizing, locking, control, or other techniques on yourself, but you have felt a level of pain to see there's something to it. That median nerve is vulnerable(depending on the person) in other spots up the arm and there are many other areas where nerves can be used in a defense/fight situation. 'Pain Compliance' was part of some police departments' training a few years, ago, as a less-than-lethal physical control method but was dropped by some when people called it 'torture'. One thing that's really captured me with this movie series is the nice use of fighting techniques they had Denzel use. From empty-hand to weapons to using available items - sometimes available from his opponents. I know it's choreographed, but I think his coordinator did an excellent job with the fight scenes and training Denzel and stunt doubles. I'm still coming back to this and other scenes in both to see the great acting AND bad guys get wrecked with authority.
The scene @ 6:24 reminds me of a scene in Star Trek TNG where Warf looks into the eyes of a dyeing Klingon just before doing the yelling ritual to let the beyond know it is receiving another Klingon warrior.
The CQC in this scene is pretty accurate. I had a friend who was a green beret who showed me how easy it was to break someone's arm at the elbow like that.

A lot of what Denzel or his double execute are martial arts and fighting techiques and systems that have been around for very long times, but most don't get to see, especially during the last few decades of commercialization and loss, elimination, or changing of what was. Fewer people know, or learn, what used to be those types of things used in EQ, but I bet your GB friend learned or taught some, that it's been in their training(CQC), and he probably wouldn't hesitate to use something that happens to be available if necessary.

Agreed, this is exactly what these movies are tapping into. Our desire for things to be fair, to not be victimized, for justice to be swift and sure. None of it is realistic.. but it is most definitely satisfying!
