- How good to you have to be to have Robben Ford play rhythm guitar for you!?!?!
Rare. Live On Sunday Night 1989.
Robben Ford - Guitar,
Philippe Saisse - Keyboards,
J.T. Lewis - Drums,
Marcus Miller - Bass,
Jeezus - when Robben Ford is playing rhythm for you and leaving you to do the leads, you’re probably pretty good!!!!!!
And Marcus Miller on bass.
@@georgestevens1502 and the rest are no bad either
@@pabloperez4063 Robert Cray is a favorite of mine. Watched him develop as an artist in Eugene, Oregon in the mid to late 70s before he had a major label contract. Schooled me in the Blues.
@@georgestevens1502 i have always liked him, as a singer is amazing "you got a hand in my pocket , for the number you,d would hope to find, jelous love"
Any players and fans of Robben should check out Robben Ford’s Guitar Dojo! Even opportunities to join him on weekly zoom calls and ask questions, as a fan its so wild!
To me Robert Cray has the best singing voice in the history of Blues. There are many great ones, but for me it is Koko Taylor for the women, and Robert Cray for the men. And Robert Cray's guitar is just fantastic.
He certainly exemplifies these things we do indeed enjoy
I'd have to agree he's way up there in the history of the Blues singers. He's my favorite for sure! I don't know about him being just for the men, a couple of my lady friends used to melt when we'd check him out live! Yeah, I agree-phenomenal guitarist too-the ultimate dual threat.
Robert Cray's sense of rhythm in his solos is just incredible. And I love his percussive style...so clean and funky. And what a voice.
I couldn't agree more
Yes. His pick attack seems to always have a bit of pinch harmonic in it. Some players will do pinch harmonics for a short break, but Robert always has a bit of it going on.
100% agree!
Honestly, he influenced me more than SRV....and that is saying a lot.
Everyone on that stage is just the hammer, and that includes the host Jules Holland !
I finally got to see Robert after an almost 2 year delay due to Covid. Well worth the wait. As great as he is as a guitarist, his vocals are just as good.
This is great !!!
Fortunate enough to see EC in '07, 50th BD gift.
Family who made this happen is a big RC fan, so win win, He was the support act.
Even my Wife thought he was great !
How good is this? Damn good that’s how good it is
Beautiful clean sounds from all band members. Cray is outstanding on guitar and voice. What an incredible performance!
This is incredible. Probably my favorite thing I've seen Mr. Cray do. Insane tone and phrasing.
A staggering amount of talent assembled here.
Robert is one player who has the gift to entertain and put your soul at ease….play on….☮️🎶🔛🌎
Cray's voice is like a tenor sax....crisp, straight though the mix and over driven....best live pitch voice in the blues.
Outstanding. It doesn’t get more soulful than this.
Yeah, pretty good! But I wouldn't compare apples to oranges between Cray and Ford though. Robben Ford is a as strong a rhythm player as he is a lick-maker. And his passion for rhythm guitar is probably what puts him in his happy element when supporting others. I love both of these guys. Thanks for the post!
Awesome so amazing what a blues feelin' and groove thanx guys 👍 ✨💙🎤🎸🎷🎹
A fairly robust line up there,my generation was blessed, keep finding more hooray
I enjoy his music so much and saw him in Vancouver, BC at the Coliseum in 1974 or 75. Fantastic guitarist and blues.
Great sound, great voice, great musician.
That is a great piece of rhythm playing from Mr Ford -very exacting! Robert Cray just has that feel, he is a natural
Robert is a special man and this is the best All Your Love performance I've ever seen!
What a back-up Band!!!
This is Awesome, And Cray’s Shirt is as Cool as his Playing .......
Love Mr. Cray's work (especially the classic 'Old Love', which he co-wrote with Mr. Clapton, and performed on this same series). What a great bass line by Marcus!
Some of Robert's best singing and picking.
outstanding live performance. loved it!!
Wow!! That was the Robert Cray tone i fell in love with back in the 80s!! Thanks for posting this!!
Marcus Miller as a back up musician. Wow. He's the best best living bass player in the world.
....and David Sanborn on Sax!
@@evans66ph and both of them were killing it!
What an awesome group of musicians to have as a backup band!
One of the very best performances I witnessed was that of Mr. Robert Cray at Central Park in the nineties. Definitely more than a STRONG PERSUADER. This specific take on Night Music was beautifully complimented by the outstanding musicians involved.
Slick, elegant, tastefull, beautiful ! This version is making Otis Rush proud ! That bending with vibrato on the opening of the solo... mindblowing ! 👍👍👍👍
Amazing version!!!
saw him a yr ago....he can still sing so high....playing is a gift
Amazing Bass line by Marcus Miller ... Loved it....
absolutely
this is the most amazing performance
Just one of the best
Make her weep, Robert!
Oh my God. What sound is this? wonderful!... Marcus Miller, always making a difference.
and genious, after others, of course, David Sanborn !!!
What a line up!
ROBERT CRAY A BAD BOY THANKS FOR YOUR GIFT OF MUSIC
LOVE ME SOME ROBERT CRAY.....MY WHOLE LIFE
Blues Legend!!!
💗 💖 💘 💝 💟 ☮️!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Robert Cray can do no wrong!!!!!!!!!
He is a different kind of musician...and I think he is very good...
I love his too, from way back when Belushi had him all around Chicago playing and promoting. I read once he was influenced by his parents soul music collections. The Blues came after he learned how to use chords for dramatic effect. He learned from Mel Bay books then he discovered his dads blues records that were somehow hidden. I think it is like what I was told as a child "we are the sum total of our experiences" Before there was smooth jazz.....there was smooth blues and that was defined by Robert and still is today for those who remember.
Good enough to have Dave Sanborn on sax... not to mention eveyone else.
yup !!
These guys were the house band for this show. Amazing!
First heard RC on an album with Clapton. No doubt his style is highly distinctive. Robber Ford looks very very young here.
Dave Sanborn also. I would guess late 1980's early 90's. I am a pro harmonica player 48 years and Robert Cray used to play in small little clubs in Oregon, I used to play at one of the same brew pubs that sat about 40 people, you could get 75-100 in there standing room only. I had friends who backed him up when he was getting started.
Incredible line-up
2019 baby this dude never die ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Just noticed that Robert's strat has a hole for a tremolo bar. I guess this was before Fender started making him hardtails. I'm glad they did - i play one of his signature models with the hardtail and freakin' LOVE that guitar. Always used to have to block my strats, but this hardtail seems to sound even better. Great playing by Robert, Robben, Marcus, etc...
Love cray's style
The analogue recording has altogether different charm altogether!
A Master @ Work.
Excellent!
Ferocious!!
I love this tone and I can't imagine how it's coming from a Super Reverb.
E o meu preferido do blus.. Pit
brilliant.....
Oh, Man!!! Beautiful!!!!
Now up to eight! Partridge Family fans.
This was a weekly network television show!
Que Selección!!!!!
yeah!!!!!!!!!
O Robert Cray consegue melhorar o que já é sublime.
So 1989, but the quality of the performer, and the song, and the supporting cast shines through the (now) very dated period musical touches.
❤❤❤
this has 4 dislikes. I don't understand people.
Aziz Al-Azfar Partridge Family fans!
Haters that don’t understand squat.
They fear mass murderers
Wow
el mas extraterrestre de todos los bluseros, clase magistral de interpretacion, buen gusto y expresividad...Robert es el nro. 1 para mi
To answer your question: That Good!
Nice shirt
J.T Lewis reminds me of Papa Joe Jones.
one of the gretist blues players maby one of he last old ones
I really like the tone. It's that tinny, slightly spongy tone that's so typical of a strat. What's wrong with that?
I like it too. He's vibrato it's so tasty !!!
Nothing Bro, Robert's approach was always smooth and that is what made him a unique musician. Blues/Soul or soulful blues Either way it is his purpose/mission according to the articles I read back in the late 70s early 80s
When a real musician plays anything the effect should reflect skill and never a gimmick. That tone is Pure, Crisp and Powerful on it's own.
Robert Cray is the man!
Seems Marcus Miller has ever ever owned and played only one bass guitar. Impressing.
gotta be my favorite version of this song....
Is that robben ford playin rhythm?
yes
As much as I love Robert, he ain't no Robben Ford, and he should've let Robben take a solo - at least.
@@EdHahm1 cray is a much bigger star than ford tho
@@djizzah True and he's very good player too, but he's nowhere close to RF's level. Not even close.
@@Ed-wx1fe technically good players usually arent stars, the biggest guitar stars of which there are only a handful would be clapton or santana, you would be surprised technically good players are a dime a dozen, probably in yours or my neighborhood there are a few, most big guitar stars dont read or write music and are self taught
Marcus Miller ....
wow I hardly recognized MM
Robert Cray played lead for Eric Clapton. I have no idea who this kid is.
Old Love. Cray outshines Clapton.
Y en el saxo quien estaba?
No one noticed that Robert played from the solo till the end with a broken string !
Um, yeah this'll do!
Those Cats... Wow....
Reminds me of Albert King.
drum jo jones???
라인업 실화냐;;

Sad Jools wasn’t on keys.
What is going here my God????
What the uploader doesn't know in his caption is that Cray doesn't have the dynamic skill set to play multiple styles with such a myriad of artists like Ford
Of blues,he is the best than bbking.
When you press the demo button on the Yamaha Motif arranger keyboard..
Then you realize the arranger keyboard is off and it’s a band of humans who play tighter in the pocket than MIDI software itself.
Love Robert, but gotta say SRVs early covers of this tune smoke this example.
srv could never sing like cray though!! and lets face it, the voice is the king of instruments
SRV was more clean precise player , but Cray's voice is the epitome of an R&B artist . He almost created a lane of a sophisticated sound of blues . SRV was good and exciting , but once you get pass the Albert King and Hendrix licks(along with a few other artist he pulled from) you're left with very little SRV .
+BlackMusicGenre couldnt agree more, SRV amazing technical player but not innovative.
Thanks . I don't necessarily feel that every guitar I listen to has to be innovative because that is kinda a heavy amount of pressure to have on one self. However as a listener it wouldn't hurt for me to hear YOU as a guitarist . Now don't get me wrong I understand that players have guitarist they looked up to . At the end of the day I want to hear your signature and your thoughts and you have to say .
BlackMusicGenre yup, mark knopfler was a guitarist along those lines, a really original take on strat playing
Beano
...and the Master David Sanborn ??!! You lost
I prefer Gary Moore's version on the 1990 Montreux recording.
boo
Great player, horrible tone !
+alan fender You like it, I dont, live with it.
Michael Joseph, you’re probably a teenager and haven’t heard too many blues singers Bobby blue bland is better than all of these guys. There’s hundreds of blues singer‘s better than Robert Cray & KoKo Taylor.
Y en el saxo quien estaba?
