Robert Cray has been playing for 40 years. He's a master of the blues. This is probably his best song. Next to my idol Stevie Ray Vaughn his my second best.🙏🏼🎤🎸💯🤟
Who's here in 2020 enjoying this fabulous guy and his marvelous Song? Edit in May '22: THANKS soooooo much for all ur likes 'n comments so far❗ Rob & Band will be playing in D-Hamburg soon and - guess what - I've got a Ticket! Hope to see you there! Oh, Robert don`t sees himself as a bluesman. So do I . His music is also full of soul and there is blues in his music, but it`s not blues and he is no bluesman.
ROBERT CRAY's stylings seem to complement Jazz and R&B although some songs are "Bluesy." Bet, he'd prefer to be acknowledged as 'AMAZING,' which is True!
He is a perfect fusion of what people call white rock and grassroots blues He gives me hope that tribes can meet so beautifully and create a human blend Utterly delightful
without any words one of the BEST SINGERS OF THE WORLD with HIS BAND. ALL is perfect for me: the singer, the composition, the band, the moment, the songwriter, the song text, the intonation, the situation, the feeling, ALL ALL .. YEAH. I am an older woman with 58 years but the song gives me many POWER; thank you Robert Cray.... and I love it, many members of my family have the same surname of the singer, wow I like it. Playing this song is a party, a big moment, powerful, being stronger and stronger...
The Robert Cray Band opened up for Huey Lewis and the News when I saw them for my first concert in St.Louis, March 23, 1987. This song didn't come out until 1991.
He's an absolute legend. I love that song. Vocals, guitar, fills... brilliant. I love how he imposes his will on the fretboard to make that beautiful clean tone pop.
A girlfriend took me to a medium size venue, upper row, east side of downtown Dallas (98% odds The Majestic, the Dallas classic, most worthy of Cray), circa 1988/89. Phenomenal. Still my favorite concert of all time. 1 unrelated amazing musical too. But Cray shines, despite the dark blues.
Old thread but Robert Cray is definitely a living legend. Such a killer skilled guitarist with such a unique style, sound and tone. You know you’ve arrived when people can recognize your music by simply hearing it without seeing the player or being told who they are. 👏👏👏
I have been listening to Robert Cray since 1973.....when he began his career in Eugene, Oregon and I NEVER get tired of him. He was wonderful then and has only polished his style with time. Sing it young Bob!
Rebecca Randleman Yup, for me since then too. He and the boys worked for a while with the great Albert Collins, touring mainly up and down the West Coast. A brash young Curtis Salgado also comes to mind as a sometime member of the group. These boys have paid their dues and are always a treat to see/hear! RIP Albert, too soon :(
Anyone notice the almost-stationary bass guitarist in the background? What with everyone else moving in time to the song you would have thought he detracts from the performance but for some reason he lends a solid seriousness which just adds to the ambience.
I am so envious of you, Kai. I have loved Robert Cray band for about 20 years. Still not seen them in concert in Australia. :( Such amazing talent.....
@@juliedove8141 Hi Julie , I saw Young Bob about 30 years ago at the Entertainment Center in Sydney . Great gig . He was here last year and I missed it . Would have been nice to see that great band again .
Silk slick and sick and smooth and all what a song 😍💖 all i can say to be blessed and part of the greatest decade of all time never to forget miss it so much oh hail the 80s 80s
Robert Cray invited me to watch his band rehearse this song in the Ballroom of the Portland Marriot. . I spotted him walking thru the lobby. I had seen him open for the Dead early in the summer. Told him I bought his album after that show and he said thanks Man & invited me to listen to this. I will never forget it. Richard Cousins was his Bass Guitar player back then. They really had a great sound.
I love this man and wouldn't be afraid of the dark if he was there to hold me! ♥ Robert cray is even better in concert than on CD,he is one artist who can duplicate his sound in person, just awesome on that guitar! ♥

This whole album was so underrated, it's sickening to me! The record label should've pushed heavy airplay on it. It would've been in the top 40 pop albums of that year!!!!
This Song should been huge it blows nearly anything and everything the last 20-30 years since the pinnacle of all the 80s left no words to describe the list is endless return in spirit and never leave 80s live on forever
I remember my dad playing this song on a road trip from NYC to Charlotte NC. As soon as this track started you could feel the car take off. Dad loved to play "dodge a ticket". I sure do miss him.

The guitar part from, 2:53, to, 2:56, was VERY NICE. The three words RIGHT AFTER that which went, "don't be afraid," made it even more mellow.

Why cant I get my Strat' to sound like his? They both have 6 strings and we both have 10 fingers but its just not the same........
blues/rock or blues jazz, its not really plain old blues.
