It's not all sunshine and rainbows with FSD all the time. I really enjoy using v13, but even this morning I had to intervene twice in one very short drive because it tried taking an exit off the freeway from a lane that doesn't even exit (slightly terrifying). The right wheel scrolling actually sets "max" - not "current speed". If it's driving at "max" already and you lower max, it will slow current down; however, if you are under max, increasing max doesn't guarantee an increase in current speed.
Love your videos. Continue the good work. I prefer the over the right shoulder view. Camera quality is also better with that view. Looking forward to understand better the speed setting offset in % and the other absolute vs relative speed assist settings...

My wife's Model Y performance and my Model X performance both have FSD. However, so far both cars have been failing to exist my long driveway when I and my wife use Summon function. Our driveway is very long since we own half of the little hill that we bought and our neighbors have their own long driveway as well. Long story short. We have tried to back up our cars by using FSD, yet there has been failure after failure. Not even one single successful endeavor by the software. Also, the FSD software still behaves oddly every now and then on the freeway especially when it comes to merge lanes and when a motorcycle is nearby. Don't ever take your eyes off the road. The FSD has the tendency to malfunction just when you are not paying attention. One time, I was pulling out of the garage of my office building in downtown financial district of San Francisco. A pedestrian was jaywalking, but my Model X continued to slowly creep out and turn left to use the middle lane. The X came so close to the pedestrian that I had to stop the car by pressing the brake pedal with my right foot. That should not have happened. Also, once it was very foggy while going to the East Bay to visit my friends, the car terminated FSD by itself with just one quick warning due to heavy fog. The car just couldn't see. If I didn't pay attention always while FSD was engaged, I would have reacted too late and the car could have missed the turn on the freeway if I didn't always have my hands on the steering wheel just in case. So, do not get too complacent of FSD of Tesla.
Yes very undecided, I had an issue with it changing lanes when there was no vehicles to pass or a sudden phantom braking coming over the top of an overpass.
I think once people see the Robotaxis out on the streets doing driverless rides with customers a lot more people will start buying fsd for their Tesla's
It definitely gets smarter the more you use it. Tesla FSD learns from millions of clips from other drivers around the world. Low light conditions are excellent. Many times, FSD sees something before I do at night.
Haha yeah! It will absolutely be a major shift in mentality and routine for all drivers around the world! Time will tell how well the adoption will go!
Last night a small deer popped up on the side of the road, and surprisingly, the car completely ignored it and actually provided no indication it even "seen" it. Kind of sketched me out. The speed limit was 45, and FSD was driving. The deer was maybe 6 feet off the roadside
I just started using FSD on a newly purchased Model 3 LR. So far, I have been very impressed but there have been a few cases where a few unsafe maneuvers have been performed. One case was on a freeway where the Model 3 overtook a slower moving car in the rightmost lane on a curve. Changing lanes on a curve should not be performed. There was not much room between the Tesla and the slower moving vehicle when the Tesla changed lanes. Yes, stay vigilant.
On the motorway when you overtake, on the left, if the car you are overtaking drives on the white line that separates you: - your car brakes? - it swerves slightly to the left and accelerates?
FSD V13 is really good with anticipating and reacting to other drives on the road. It will definitely create distance between itself and other vehicles that are driving incorrectly.
I might have missed it but you didn't tell what the offset was set for. The profile really doesn't effect how fast the car goes over the speed limit as much as the offset value does. The profile is more how the car uses the offset.
I have version 12 and was told that FSD does not see anything below the bumper doesn't slow down for speed bumps and will run over anything in the road. These are the problems I've experienced. 1 Doesn't slow down for speed bumps. 2 Sometimes will do 25mph in a 45mph and 40mph in a 30mph zone. 3 Phantom braking with no other cars around. 4 Sometimes will break on a sharp curve thinking the cars coming in the opposite direction are in your lane. 5 Summon; In a perking lot the car will get to the main parking lot road and stop in the middle of the road blocking traffic and say car cannot drive on a high speed road. It's not a high speed road. Does V13 solve these problems?
Good video. Not that you are going to do it but when i came across very foggy conditions; i wondered how FSD would perform. Didn't attempt it, I was too apprehensive about it.
I’ve been a FSD beta tester for a while. Tho ver 13.2.2 is great now it bothers me more than ever. Formerly I knew where to look for errors. Hard to tell now.
My experience with HW3 FSD has been the equivalent of allowing a 14 year old, with no concept of courteous driving habits, take over. It's been a bit embarrassing to be in the drivers seat at times. It has cut more people off in the past 2 months than I have in the past 10 years. I've mostly stop using it around town since it's always trying to change lanes even when not appropriate (e.g. to get around a car that is going the speed limit right before our exit and having to cut across double white lines and two lanes to make the exit; or driving in the middle lane just over the speed limit then getting over to the left lane though there is a car clearly driving much faster quickly approaching in that lane. Even this video shows it passing a driver on the right just before a merge left even though the driver seem to be driving the speed limit. (mild version of the behaviors I have witnessed) I've heard HW4 is much better but it would be great to limit or eliminate non-essential lane changes permanently from the options (not just for that drive).
Must be nice to drive with v13. I'm stuck using v12 because I bought FSD when the computers in my Model X and Model S-Plaid are not powerful enough to run v13. You'd think that for someone who has been buying Teslas for the past 6 years ($300k) that the company would see to it that I wasn't going to be left behind. An immediate retrofit to Hardware V4 would be appreciated.
I am 49 been legally blind since seven years old never had a license. When do you think that will be fully self driving where I could buy a Tesla and have more freedom to get around and do what I want without riding a ride or taking an Uber
Will it avoid potholes? Slow down for rough railroad crossings? Avoid road kill? Slow for deer near the side of the road? I have to deal with all these things on my daily commute.
I have noticed that this latest update (version 13) is phenomenal when it comes to slowing down for trains tracks as well as pot holes! It’s also really good at avoiding road kill. One of my subscribers told me that FSD slowed down for deer near the side of the road and went around them cautiously. So it does that too!
It has been trained on drivers that are not reckless I suppose so it should if cameras can recognize what is pothole, where are train tracks and roadkill but they should be able to, Al now is good and getting better and better at image recognition and understanding in real time
@@lkrnpk Lotta 'shoulds' in that statement. Thanks, but I'll keep driving my '24 Model Y manually. I know when to swerve to avoid a pothole or roadkill.
Hello, I owned a Tesla Model 3 Highland LR (July 2024 - AI4) in France. Unfortunatly, no FSD available yet. What is your car ? Seems to be a Model 3 2024, isn't it? Best. Pierre
Welcome to the channel! Yes, I am also driving a Highland Model 3 (rear wheel). Any idea when Europe will be approving/releasing FSD? I heard some things about early 2025?
Once FSD unsupervised is legally approved, people will quickly move away from ICE vehicles and flock to Tesla. FSD is a significant differentiator from other EVs and serves as the "magic" factor that will persuade even the most hesitant ICE owners to transition to EVs. gap between cars: in europe if you have a gap too wide between you and the car you follow, you will have most probably someone moving into that gap, and the cars behind you will get angry and honk for you to move on. In the US (though I haven’t driven there in years), it seems you are permitted to remain in the left lane even when the right lanes are empty, and it’s also allowed to pass other vehicles from the right. In Europe, this is illegal-you must move to the right if the lane is clear and keep the left lane open for faster-moving traffic. FSD will have to adapt to european legislation or it will be very expensive to use FSD ! Also driving 35 with speed limit of 25 is an expensive fine + 15-day suspension of driving licence ! All in all very impressive vidéo !
it's interesting how with less traffic, it's less accurate. I've seen 13.2.2 drive into oncoming entries. i.e. a parking lot where the exit is on the opposite side of the entrance. I feel like it's probably quite important to tell people this is a "SUPERVISED" auto-pilot (fsd)... everyone (even you) should be 1/8 of a second away from intervening. Nothing, even in 13.2.x is not perfect. there are very unique places, like in direct sunlight... but none of this N-O-N-E- of it has made it safe enough to say... go to sleep and wake up til you get to your destination.
I'm going to give it another 3 years. By then I'll have to get a new car. MY hope is that Tesla licenses this tech to other car mfgs so I'll have more of a choice!
I have a new model y with a free trial of FSD. It will not let me have my hands in my lap like I see you in this video. It wants my hands on the wheel. I would like to know why.
The new attention monitoring must be active - you’ll see a small green dot on the top left of the screen. If you’re wearing a hat or your eyes aren’t visible for some reason (really dark sunglasses), it’ll say attention monitoring unavailable. You might also need a software update - FSD needs to be enabled with v13 (attention mining was introduced recently in V12).
My country road has high grass next to it in places, so FSD inexplicably changes my speed. My guess is that FSD can't really tell tall grass from a wall. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for the clue, wife.
@DriveElectricToday - At about 11:30 you mentioned that FSD (Supervised) when in "hurry" mode will stop closer to any vehicle in front of you; can the distance be changed? I like to keep a decent distance from anyone stopped in front of me (usually try to stop back far enough so I can see where the tires in the vehicle in front of me touch the pavement) in case the vehicle behind me isn't paying attention and runs into me (thus minimizing any damage to the front of my vehicle.
Haha yup! I couldn’t agree more. I think I will continue to include the POV angles, but will edit more cautiously to ensure stable footage is shown. Thanks for the feedback!
@ it's just a brand new car 24 model three Highland if I drop my hands down it's very sensitive. Iyou look like you added some edited parts out there where your hands were down and then didn't you get any notification to give the wheel a slight tug?
Nope, latest versions of FSD no longer require you to nag at the wheel. They have transitioned over to monitoring your eyes with the internal camera. So as long as your eyes are facing forward, no need to touch the wheel the entire drive. Do you happen to know what version of FSD is loaded on your car?
I'm sold on FSD, but as for the rest of the Tesla experience, I'm not. My closest Tesla dealer is 3 hours away, they won't deliver the car, they lowball your trade, insurance and finance rates are high, you have to pay monthly for FSD and the car is too plain on the inside. I wish they would keep the traditional look on the interior and hopefully more companies will have their own self driving system for competition and it doesn't cost extra to use.
@@Nelwyn I would have to agreed on the Tesla quality. I am stuck with HW3 on my Model 3P and cancelled my FSD subscription. It totally took the fun away from my car.
Probably "hurry mode" is trained on humans who drive faster; they are likely to get closer to other cars even when there's no need to do so. We can't assume FSD will always be logical, it was trained by humans and they sure aren't 😂
One of the challenges is that because the car needs no reaction time at all, it could ride right on the bumper of the car in front of you without being unsafe, but your instincts are to not trust the car. Maybe eventually that will change.
@@ArtStoneUS Sure, I'll be happy for it to do that once it's unsupervised and proven safer than human drivers - and it should help traffic by taking less space on the road. But for as long as it's supervised, it needs to give the human behind the wheel time to react. And when there's plenty of space on the road and nobody trying to cut in front, there's really no reason not to give yourself more space - even if FSD could react instantly, its stopping distance is not zero.
The reason the car shows different behavior in "hurry mode" could be due to the use of different datasets during the training of the AI model. The dataset for "hurry mode" might contain more examples of situations where the car is getting closer to the vehicle in front during standstill conditions. It is likely that a base / foundation model is used with specific driving styles trained on top that can be switched as needed.
Ah that makes a lot of sense! Seems like it’s mimicking the behavior of a human that is in a “hurry”. Wherein, maintaining closer distances to other vehicles on the road.
rural road driving huh while expounding the glory of FSD? Try any city road that actual calls for something more than lane assist and you will be nauseated. gl. FSD on any city road with more than a couple lanes still feels like a teenager learning to drive. Anyone trying to tell you different is holding TSLA stock.

Good work, and thank you for sharing. Doing research for a Model 3 we're leasing this week :)
Nice!!! Best of luck in your research! Nothing more excited than a new car 🙂
You’re going to love it.
I think once people see the Robotaxis out on the streets doing driverless rides with customers a lot more people will start buying fsd for their Tesla's
100% agreed - Once it scales out, and the concept is proven, I’m sure we’ll see more people adopt FSD.
Doubt it. Too expensive
Does it get smarter the more you use it?
Does it help in low light, rainy conditions?
It definitely gets smarter the more you use it. Tesla FSD learns from millions of clips from other drivers around the world. Low light conditions are excellent. Many times, FSD sees something before I do at night.
It doesn’t get smarter for you specifically. It’s not customized. It gets smarter for everyone as the AI continues to collect real world data.
Great video, thanks !
Thanks for your support!
I think self driving is the future. I also think it’s going to be an adjustment for old heads like me and am in no hurry.
That is definitely is unsettling. I wonder if the reaction would have been different if the deer was nearing the road.
If Tesla knows now that HW3 cars will never have the same capability as HW4, they should fully refund all deposits and payments for FSD from the past.
I think what Elon has said is if AI3 cant do unsupervised Tesla will upgrade us to AI4.
Agreed! I had situations very similar to, even with version 13. So I’m very attentive and ready to disengage at any moment.
How does it do in heavy fog or blizzard snow at night on an unlit serpentine mountain road?
I will be testing in snowy, cold conditions throughout the winter here in North America. So stayed tuned for videos on that!
I might have missed it but you didn't tell what the offset was set for. The profile really doesn't effect how fast the car goes over the speed limit as much as the offset value does. The profile is more how the car uses the offset.
Yes apologies for not mentioning. Max offset is +25% and offset is +10MPH.
Note; Driving using FSD on major highways is amazing just not city driving for me. Yet!
My only issue is not slowing down when the speed limit is reduced for some signs that the car recognizes.
Yes! I still can’t figure out why it does this. I have the same issues.
Good video. Not that you are going to do it but when i came across very foggy conditions; i wondered how FSD would perform. Didn't attempt it, I was too apprehensive about it.
You need to compare with gm super cruise
I’ve been a FSD beta tester for a while. Tho ver 13.2.2 is great now it bothers me more than ever. Formerly I knew where to look for errors. Hard to tell now.
Agreed!
Great content! Thank you!
Thank you for the support!
Regarding that red Jetta, all the humans I know would have closed the gap preventing the dude from taking their space in the middle lane lol
LOL that is so true
Decreasing the gap in Harry mode increases the response time it's like shortening the length of a spring. I guess??
Ah good point! It’s almost mimicking what a human driver would be doing in a “hurry”. Which usually represents being bumper to bumper.
(mild version of the behaviors I have witnessed)
I've heard HW4 is much better but it would be great to limit or eliminate non-essential lane changes permanently from the options (not just for that drive).
Agreed, it would be much better if retrofit options were more readily available
Don't understand how some people can hate tesla cars
Full windshield view is better than POV.
Thanks for the feedback!!
Does FSD slow down if it sees police cars with radar?
That’s a great question. I’m not too sure but that would be a really amazing feature!
Hurry Mode's smaller distance means nobody's going to cut in front of you
I am 49 been legally blind since seven years old never had a license. When do you think that will be fully self driving where I could buy a Tesla and have more freedom to get around and do what I want without riding a ride or taking an Uber
I like the angle towards your rear shoulder 👏 😁 🤙
Thank you for the feedback!
Hello,
I owned a Tesla Model 3 Highland LR (July 2024 - AI4) in France.
This needs to be tested in Europe
Agreed, hopefully early 2025 Europe might start to see FSD become available.
It's amazing.
Agreed
Prefer rear shoulder view
it's interesting how with less traffic, it's less accurate.
Good call! That would be great to see Tesla license this out.
🙋♂️ #TeamFullCabinView
I have a new model y with a free trial of FSD. It will not let me have my hands in my lap like I see you in this video. It wants my hands on the wheel. I would like to know why.
The new attention monitoring must be active - you’ll see a small green dot on the top left of the screen. If you’re wearing a hat or your eyes aren’t visible for some reason (really dark sunglasses), it’ll say attention monitoring unavailable. You might also need a software update - FSD needs to be enabled with v13 (attention mining was introduced recently in V12).
Wow! Amazing
Definitely rear shoulder
Thanks for the feedback!
My country road has high grass next to it in places, so FSD inexplicably changes my speed. My guess is that FSD can't really tell tall grass from a wall. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for the clue, wife.
LOL, agreed!
POV is fine as long there is no rapid nausea inducing movement.
Haha yup! I couldn’t agree more. I think I will continue to include the POV angles, but will edit more cautiously to ensure stable footage is shown. Thanks for the feedback!
Shoulder camera view preferred
Thanks for the feedback!
Suggestion : Talk a little less.
Where is your driver's side dashboard display? 🤔
I’m in a model 3, so no driver side dashboard for me unfortunately!
@@DriveElectricToday OIC 👏 😁 🤟
I wonder how it decides where to go if you don't tell it. 😮
Right-shoulder POV please.
Thank you for the feedback!
Why am I getting nags when my hands are off the wheel...?
Hmm that sounds like an older version of FSD! Which version are you running? And what is the make/model of your car?
@ it's just a brand new car 24 model three Highland if I drop my hands down it's very sensitive. Iyou look like you added some edited parts out there where your hands were down and then didn't you get any notification to give the wheel a slight tug?
Nope, latest versions of FSD no longer require you to nag at the wheel. They have transitioned over to monitoring your eyes with the internal camera. So as long as your eyes are facing forward, no need to touch the wheel the entire drive.
Do you happen to know what version of FSD is loaded on your car?
@ 13....."apply slight turning to the steering wheel" that is the nag?
So you feel very confident with the new FSD version, but the car wanted to go on a red light....
OK... that doesn't sound particularly good.
The center console is too wide creating less leg room
Shoulder angle s better and the video quality is far better.
Agreed! Thank you for the feedback!
rear shoulder view
Thanks for the feedback!
12:39 probably because the driver video they used for "hurry" training includes a bunch of jagoffs that tailgate people. lol
LOL, YUP!
Heh, only 55 seconds in and first violation. This is a dangerous gimmick for sunny days in california.
😂 agreed!
Great video. What year and model your car is ??
Thanks for your support! I am in a Model 3 2024 Rear Wheel Drive 🙂
Rear shoulder better
Thanks for the feedback!
No, any idea when FSD will be released in Europe. Hope beginning 2025. But it is only my wish...
I hope so too
Rightmost view has a much better camera.
Agreed! Will incorporate more of that camera.
Most of the video is the same as basic Autopilot, which I’ve had for five years.
Agreed! I’m looking forward to other companies coming out with their own touches and flare to self driving cars.
LOL! So true 😂
Nope. I drive, the computer computes.
😂
FSD using cameras only is never going to succeed. Inertia cares little about software errors.
nah . tesla cant even correct manual cruise control without having to phantom break for no reason. fsd is dumb.
It is too bad that Musk had to destroy the brand.
There are way more complaints about Tela's then any other car. No way would you ever catch one of these pieces of un-safe junk in my driveway.
It is dangerous to be overconfident in autonomous driving. A passenger plane crashed due to overreliance on the autopilot.
th-cam.com/video/KVPqMSQPBA8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8fmY7wnaJNsPhHlb
Driving in what we here in Britain would consider to be almost no traffic on wide open roads does not seem much of a challenge.
Boring drive track
Why did your video keep cutting away. No credibility there. Also an illegal left turn at the end.
I’m switching between two camera angles. So likely the cut you are seeing is switching from one camera to another. However, the scene is still the same.
LOL - Imagine driving around in a Elonmobile. Enjoy the next 4 years!
Why would I want to sit there and do nothing. If I start reading a blog, I might miss the occasion to intervene. How boring!
Driving for the totally lazy person! Not to mention that you guys and Musk will drive (no pun intended) millions of people who earn their living from driving out of work. Someday, automation will take your livelihood away too.
