This video is a treasure for me. With practice i can PIECE the fabric to look pretty good. No amount of QUILTING looks good. I have a plastic bin full of projects that require the quilting seams be ripped out!!!
So, this is my question---instead of a seam all around to get started, wouldnt it be better to begin in the center and work out toward the edges? That way any excess fabric would ease toward the edge and avoid tiny tucks on the back or front.
    Thank you.

Yes, whenever you work on large quilting projects, you would start in the middle and get blocks/sections quilted working your way out to the border. With larger projects, it is also imperative that you somehow baste the 3 layers togethers in some fashion when using your domestic sewing machine to quilt it.
However, whenever I work on little projects (like this table runner), I don't have any issues with excess fabric underneath, which is why I was able to quilt the outer edges to secure the top section and then I simply proceeded with my quilting from there.
If you have issues with your fabric bunching up or creasing underneath, then, yes you would want to start in the center to get blocks/sections of the center of the runner secured and work out from there.
I hope this helps you! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Please include what to do with the threads, top and bobbin, at the beginning and end. When starting any of the quilting lines and then ending that line of stitching.
    Thank you.

Thanks so much for watching! Yes, I pull up the bobbin thread to the top, then make 3 very small locking stitches at the beginning, quilt across the quilt, and then at the end, I stitch 3 small locking stitches, pull up the bobbin thread again & then trim the thread very close to the fabric. This way, there are no dangling threads under the quit, they are all neatly tucked way inside the quilt. (My Janome has a setting that automatically creates the 3 small stitches to secure the line of stitching, but you can certainly do that on your own if your machine doesn't have this setting.) Let me know if this helps you! Happy Quilting!
