The rice pudding is from the brand Mont Blanc, it's the high end of industrial dairy desserts you can find on the supermarkets stalls in France.
Same for the liver pate, from the Brand Maison Larzul, btw.

Hint: The tool is foldable as well, so you'll have two hooks in parallel for your meal to hold it. The flap is supposed to fold downwards. And with that you'll have a pot holder a bit like them from Trangia or the like.

The fruit paste is a classic in France when you go for a long walk. Generally, the french MRE contents are provided by well known brand and must have both excellent dietetic properties and taste or they will face very angry french soldiers who are, I must report, armed people ^^

The lifting tool works a lot better if you bend it just a little bit and if you would put the lasagna tin on the esbit flame upside down for a couple of minutes you'll get it heated up on the top so then when you flip it over you just need a couple of minutes on the bottom and you won't get the burned spot

I've found that putting those tins in some boiled water to heat them up is preferable to cooking them over an open flame.
For one, you don't even have to open them, and for two they won't burn.
It also heats them up quite quickly and you're probably going to be boiling water for coffee or tea anyway if you're allowed to use the esbit stove.

French rations definitely sit at the top table of MREs. Personally I prefer the Russian ones, as they lean more towards savoury rather than sweet when it comes to the extra stuff, but there's no disputing the quality of the French rations, particularly when it comes to the mains and entrees.

The Legion boys in Chad and Niger/Niamey have small bottles of red wine with their patrol rations, always blew me away. The pot holder folds mate and the handle bends back, sturdy little holder when moulded right, also the French boys don't crack their tins, they flip then until they swell and then crack them for the final few minutes, not that it matters, tin only caught a wee bit by the looks of it. Great review and scoff.

Hi Andy, cracking review as usual. A tasty looking selection of grub too...👍. Just a wee tip if it helps the cooking of tinned goods for you, heat the tin unopened in a zebra pot of boiling water. Pouring some cold water over the heated tin will reduce the pressure build up and cover the lid with a cloth as you crack the seal on the lid open. I can't help myself sometimes....I used to be a cook..😀
    Cheers

I like to use something like a UK mess tin, pop in the tin of food and add water till it comes up about halfway (not a lot of volume). Then use the stove to boil the can for about 10 minutes. Perfectly hot and no scorch marks. There is no need to open the can when boiling either.

its definitely the better way but I like to try these 'as intended' or using just whats provided if possible, thanks for watching Russell

I get stews in long cans like that. Pop them in a dixie add water boil. No burns. Simple. I heat all canned food in a can like that always have.

It didn't look terribly delicious, but I will take your word for it. It still looked above par for most rations, for certain. Stay healthy and we'll see you soon, Andy!

You need to fold the tin handle along the two slits to use it.

I enjoy army rations... but oh the carbs! Each as more carbs in one meal than I eat in a week.
Thanks Andy, don't know how I missed this one.

I think the favorite rations you mentioned might be the only ones I'd eat personally. Also I think I see Cold Weather rations utilizing FRH's more and more to counteract the cold stricken hex tabs that ultimately do nothing in colder weather.

I was wondering how the lasagne would turn out - I've one from a 24hr ration in the cupboard that I've not tried yet.
