    I like the shirt! Cut it up! Put some holes in it. I think if you leave the bleach on longer, it will turn more white if that's what you wanted. But I think it turned out great with how you did it!!!

  • @spooky_status
    @spooky_status 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    To get the mineral wash effect without it turning orange you have to use screen printing ink mixed with water. In effect you’re actually adding white not removing color but it looks closer to the intended mineral wash effect.

    I used to work at a Levi’s and if you are a women buying men’s pants (i love turning them into shorts because they make your bum look so good lol!), then you want to go up about 3 sizes. So if you are a women’s 30 (size 10) then you will want to get a men’s 33.

    Oh. Get some Gingher sewing shears. I don’t use mine all the time but they are FANTASTIC when I do. I waited until I found a Michael’s 50% off coupon and then pulled the trigger. Just make sure you ONLY cut fabric with them. Paper and other projects will dull your blades. The target scissors get all those jobs.

    1) you look incredible! Your hair is perfection
    2) I love these DIY videos!
    3) I actually really like that Arizona shirt. The back turned out cool. Maybe it just looks good on camera? The front, maybe do the tie in front and make it a crop like the first one and it’ll “cover up” the big splat?
    Am I the only one who thinks that?

  • @Joy-xz2fx
    @Joy-xz2fx 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Omg I love your personality so damn much! Amazing job on the shorts! You made me laugh so hard this morning which I definitely needed this morning thank you for that! Maybe the top needed to be wet when you put the bleach on for a more gradual affect? Not sure! Have you ever tried bleaching denim shorts? Xo, Joy or upcyclejoy all over lol on insta, depop, mercari.. . Lol you know the drill. About to get some coffee in me and go garage-sale-ing! Hell yes!!!

    I think if you cut the Arizona top into a crop it would be cute

  • @rachelhartjes313
    @rachelhartjes313 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should cut that last shirt that you DIYed mineral washed and cut it in that crop, tie style and cuff three sleeve a bit and it could be super cute! Cause the mineral wash looked good on the upper half. Or you could keep it long and do those fun back cut outs. You know the ones... there are lots of versions and variations. Sooo many tutorials on TH-cam of course and it would be cute for a throw on or whatever. I honestly don't think it turned out that bad. I think now that you have an idea of how to fo it and how it works, that you'll for sure get it right next time! All those shorts looked great on you!! I've never shopped in the men jeans section when thrifting and idk why! I just know that I'm now wanting to run to goodwill and thrift my little heart content in men jeans that i can cut off! Cause that's the style im looking for...but its impossible for a size 12, 6 ft tall, lady being like myself lol to find! So im super excited now to go thrifting! I also am inspired to find some midi skirts from your videos too. I love maxi skirts and sun dresses and a midi seems like a mix of those 2 things. Maybe a little flowier than a maxi. They're super cute on you! Think they'd be cute with just some berks and a cropped tee..but could definitely dress them up with heels and blouse or maybe bodysuit. So I'm excited to go on the hunt at goodwill. We've got very similar body types...except I'm even taller lol. So I've never gotten so many ideas that'll actually work for my body, who has a similar eneogh style to my own, from a youtuber before. Pretty stoked. Lol.

    I’m a size 6-8 and I fit in men’s sizes 32-34. 34 if I want them more comfortable in the thighs and hips (since we ladies tend to have them bigger than men’s) and they make the BEST shorts for the summer.

  • @ashleyien1222
    @ashleyien1222 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Googling mineral wash, one said you spray the shirt with water before you use the pumice stones... maybe a damp shirt might have turned out better. [the others I saw used screen printing ink and pebbles]
    One option for stuff like that is to use a scrap piece of fabric or get a shirt you really don't like to test the diy on before you do it on something you like. (can't really do that with cutting stuff, but you can when it calls for something like bleach).
    Maybe if you want to see if using the pumice stones on a damp shirt makes a difference you can just try it on the same shirt... who knows, maybe it'll make something you like better? Just a suggestion. (I've never tried to do a mineral wash, but anytime I've tried to do something with bleach it usually ends up not working and turning an odd colour.)

    You could do the mineral wash DIY again, just dilute the bleach water before soaking the stones. Add like a cap full of bleach to the tub of water and then soak the stones. Might take a couple of tries to get the exact look you want but better than over bleaching straight away. 😂

    Fabric Sheers will seriously change your life!! only use them for fabric or they will dull!!

  • @TheGwennifer211
    @TheGwennifer211 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you diluting the bleach before you use it for your projects? Household bleach on its own is really strong and from the looks of it you were using it pretty concentrated. Diluting it more will give a more subtle effect. Also, the shirts turning orange has to do with the undertones of the dye originally used to make the fabric so if it’s going to turn orange there’s not much you can do to fix that. Maybe try a test spot of bleach on the inside of the collar before hand to see if it will turn orange or not.
    Hope this helps for any future diy-ing!

  • @KrystleLife
    @KrystleLife 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    i know im a couple months late but ive "mineral washed" a shirt as well or reverse tye dyed with using bleach and i put it in a spray bottle and diluted it with water so 1) it didnt work as fast and 2) the effect was less harsh! i think you could do that on this shirt to add more bleach to it and make it look a little more intentional and then you can leave it sit for a lot longer as well so the dye can get out of that orangey tone and into something a bit lighter. if not, its a good tip for next time and it worked really well!!!
