    You can also do mid print layer stops and stick in an NFC sticker to make your own smart objects. Just leave a pocket in the model when designing and tell the slicer to add a pause command at the right layer height. I’ve recently started playing around with this and programming the stickers all on my phone.

    I got a 3D printer last fall and have been using it for many of the same types of things. One additional suggestion I might offer is, if someone doesn't want to try hooking it up to a Raspberry Pi, you can simply plug the whole thing into an energy monitoring smart plug. That way, you can set up notifications when the power drops back down to it's idling state to let you know when a print has completed.

    • @SmartHomeSolver
      @SmartHomeSolver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great idea with the energy monitoring smart plug! I'm going to use that for sure!

    • @eymenu7281
      @eymenu7281 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also use it to calculate the electricity cost per part and monthly total using utility meter and a template sensor in Home Assistant and InfluxDB to save the data for longer periods

    • @mwjones71
      @mwjones71 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have OctoPi set up to run my printer, and there's actually a plugin for Home Assistant (and some other automation platforms as well) that will turn a smart plug on when you send a print job, and then turn the printer's smart plug off once the hot end has sufficiently cooled down. That way when its idle I'm drawing no electricity.

    That light cube looks really cool. I would have printed it in almost the opposite way though, in the I would have printed the light diffuser layer as one solid piece (basically a square tube with a bottom plate all one line thick, then I would have printed the black layer as individual faceplates for each side so that the lines that let light through could be printed with any geometry without the need for printing support material. Then glue the outer faceplates to the diffuser box.

I completely rebuilt a microscope with new electronics mounted with 3d printed parts and a camera mount set to the focal distance of the lens to take pictures and output a live feed. Same with small automotive parts, outdoor items(petg, abs), telescope mounts, hell even 3d printer parts done recursive style

    Watching this as my Ender 3 pro print something I designed.

  • @gibbo271
    @gibbo271 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the ender 3 pro i believe and i have a issue wheren the extruder might have been destroyed with fillament not coming out. Worked like a charm with the test filament it came with but then i bought some fillaments from amazon in exact same mm thickness and now it has not been used for months. But a suggestion i would like to give you is you can do mounts for pictures or anything else that is practical to use. The first thing i printed was a stadia logo and it went well. I would have to get someone looking on my printer at some time. So i can get started to print usefull things i want to use every day. You can even do tablet holders or ornaments for your christmas tree. Its clode to be only your imagination that sets the limits.

    • @rockking1379
      @rockking1379 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check your extruder arm! The factory one is plastic and likes to crack. Replace with an all aluminum one. Also make sure your nozzle is hot enough for the filament you are trying to use. I had one recently that I got, 200 (my normal print temp) wasn’t near hot enough. 220-230 was recommended temps from manufacture for that filament.

    • @rockking1379
      @rockking1379 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another common one is heat creeping up the heat break and causing the filament to begin melting prematurely. This will usually result in the break clogging. You can try to push the clog out (it’s hard) or look into a new heat break. I have one from slice engineering. CHEP has a video on it. Actually he has a good video on the ender 3 overall. Lot of stuff to look at and things to watch out for.

I got the Mitutoyo like 2y ago and it is still running the Batteries it shipped with _despite_ me constantly forgetting to turn it off whereas the cheapo ones - with a friggin' auto off timer?! - probably having run through like 10 batteries in the same time frame which gets old really fast when you need to measure something but it's out of juice.

      Haha yeah there is a learning curve with Fusion 360. Sometimes I'm feel like I'm figuring out Fusion 360 and other times I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing lol!

    Why don’t you print your notification box with a 3d version of your logo instead ??

    "...it's pretty easy... you get a caliper... then you can JUST... use Fusion 360... then just print it... "
    WOW. Talk about false representation. None of those steps are "just that easy" and you know it.

    • @SmartHomeSolver
      @SmartHomeSolver  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay Fusion 360 isn't an "easy" program to use because there is so much you can do with it. But doing something very simple like making a box to hold a motion sensor is not difficult. So yes I shouldn't have said it's pretty easy and instead said it's "not difficult".

    I would love a notification when gas price goes up or USA invades another country. I'd use some screams sound FX to add more drama.
