    I found a small work-around for the lack of an eye-level viewfinder. I use a hotshoe-mount rangefinder viewfinder. it works best with a Fujifilm auto focus lens because the only information in the viewfinder is the frame lines. For example, my most-used lens for street is the 27mm f2.8, for which I use a 40mm viewfinder. The frame match is almost exact. I have also set the Fn button to Instant AF so that I can do back-button focusing with my eye to the viewfinder.

    Cris, I don't know how I missed this! I didn't see this video until now - but I actually picked up an X-M1 last month. I love it!

    Thank you for sharing! I am not a professional photographer and I got this camera as a gift around 10 years ago and I really really love it! My friends have been encouraging me to buy a new one because it's so old. Haha But your video assures me that I don't need to spend extra money if i'm already enjoying what I have.

    I just got this camera and I love the size of it. I've tried a couple of recipes, but the output doesn't look so good like yours. I dug a little deeper and realized that the X-M1 has a unique oddity: it has a first generation X-Trans sensor, but a second generation image processor (EXR II processor). It seems like this camera compares to the X-Trans II with the JPGs. What's your experience? Did you have to tweak the recipes a little bit, or use the X-Trans II recipes? If so, can you share your settings for them? Thanks! 🙌😊

    Good video Cris, it’s great that you make videos like this one to let people know what else is out there if they are just switching from film (or a smart phone) or for someone with a limited budget that simply wants to try photography as a hobby and may be professionally in the future. Two main reasons why I wouldn't get a camera like this one, no EVF and probably poor battery life (compared to today’s cameras). Be well and stay safe.

    • @CrisConstantin
      @CrisConstantin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I understand no EVF reason, duuh, I hate that too…the battery life is excelent, tho! It uses the W126/s and they hold forever due to the low consumption and not so power hangry features (hence evf😂). So, yeah the camera is a hit in my opinion and takes amazing photos. Thank you for the nice words, my friend👍

    This was my first camera. I bought it in 2015 I guess. It still has a special place and it is something I do not want to sell or loose. Frankly didn’t use it much but somehow the look and feel or this camera just do not let me loose it.

    The X-M1 has been my favorite street camera for years, it's small and compact, a perfect hipshot street shooter, that fits in a pocket.

    Wanted an Xtrans 1 but was not gonna pay $500 for an xe1 so I got it. It’s pretty solid tbh. Great alongside my big boy xt-5

    Hi Cris, always on the lookout for older bargain priced Fuji's I picked one up in mint condition for $60 in my regular used camera mall a month ago. I also amazingly found a place that still had a stock of the additional Fuji grip for sale new. I like the smaller fixed lens Fuji's like the X70 & XF10 for unobtrusive lightweight street shooting, and the X-M1 provides a compact longer focal length option when paired with the 27mm with the added benefit of a tilting screen. I have X-Trans 3 fully featured models but there is definately still a place in my line-up for this little gem, I'd buy a back-up for the long-term if I came across a similar deal before they get even harder to find.

      Hi Robin,
      Where is your camera store? Hard to believe any shop selling it at a reasonable price.
      Thanks

      @@anthonykartsonas5087 Hi Anthony, I'm in Bangkok. There is a mall in Chinatown that has 1 floor which is all used camera shops. An X-E2 can be picked up for $170 which I think is another great deal for a camera I think is still great to use.

      @@robinlennon4752 Hi Robin, that makes sense and thanks for replying. I live in the US and nothing is that affordable now. It's why I had to ask. I had an xm1 and sold it a while ago, regret it I still have an xe1 though. Thanks again

    • @robinlennon4752
      @robinlennon4752 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anthonykartsonas5087 I've only ever sold my original Nikon D610 never any of my Fuji's, as like you feel with your X-M1 I know I would regret it. I do think the older models will naturally get harder to find over time, MPB don't have a single X100 series available on their UK site for example. I won't go above the 24MP models as for me the updates are marginal and I don't need all the new features. The higher and higher prices you mention are way more than I want to pay for a single body as an enthusiast/hobbyist.

    Odd X-M1 issue. I've placed a Rollei Carl Zeiss 50mm 1.8 on my X-M1 and have set my shoot with no lens on, focus peaking on red, and also tried this with my mount adapter at both 50mm and the 75 mm settings. When I press down on the rear top wheel to get a magnification, a small square appears on the back screen and then it goes to the zoomed in position. Press down again, and it zooms out. But the zoom in square is sitting high at the top of my rear screen instead of center. I cannot figure out how to set this back to the center.

      I just saw someone having the same issue with a Plannar 135 i believe. I have no idea what’s with these issues, but I’ll try with my vintage lenses, unfortunately none are Zeiss but Maybe it’s universal. Hopefully someone will chime in and give us a clue.👍
