LOVE my XT1 with the 35mm 1.4 it’s still to this day 12 years later my main portrait set up. Use my iPhone 15 pro Max for the 15 and 24mm lenses and then my XT1 for photos of people see no reason to upgrade the out of camera colours are amazing
This was my first camera, perfect for understanding the ins and outs of photography. I still use it as my daily and even after upgrading to an a7III, I find myself grabbing this camera for when I’m on the go. XT-1 paired with the right lens can give amazing photos.
I wanted to learn photography. So I got a used Sony A7s2. Then lens I got with it was damaged. I thought buying a zoom lens would help me practice diversely with different focal lengths. The thing is I don't keep my camera with me. I should have got a fixed focal length lens (which would have also been smaller) and a smaller camera so that I can keep this handy with me always. I need to practice more and more. The setup I have currently I just don't carry with me. Keeping in mind I want to click pictures in low light during evening and night after office, please share some suggestions for a body and lens to have with me everyday.
I bought my XT1 when it first came out, as an upgrade to my XE1. Just a year ago, I finally upgraded to the XT4 specifically for better video, bigger battery, and IBIS (for my large collection of prime lenses without OIS). After all those years, the XT4 is still basically the same fantastic camera as the XT1 with just a bunch of evolutionary improvements. I love these cameras. Seeing your video, I may dust off my XT1 and pop on a manual lens and take it out for some fun. BTW, I did have my XT1 professionally reskinned by Fujifilm of North America - perfect!!! ❤

It ist realy closed to my thoughts. I discover now since about a few months my "new" X-T1, and I love the size at first. Now I am testing a few lenses and therefor the image quality. And I think as an longtime nikon-user, quite good! But the image software is a little bit difficult, compared with the free of charge nikon studio X. And I have to reskin it too, maybe next year. When I will have created a good workflow with an image editing program, I believe that the 16MP sensor is quit good for a lot of kinds of images. Now I am getting a few lenses and work with ... maybe in a few years I could upgrade to a used X-T4 ... maybe, because I am not sure if it is required for my kind of photography.
I went from x-t10 to x-pro1, only thing im missing is pivotable lcd the pro-1 is a magnificent piece of technology, it's a but pricier at times, but for street photography, the dual mode viewfinder is awesome
I love my X-Pro 2 and I'm hoping to review the X-Pro 1 sometime in the future. I would agree with you though, a tiltable screen would be a nice addition

The XT1 is a great little camera. Paired with the 27mm pancake lens, it's perfect for street photography. I did update mine to the XT2 which in my opinion is even better (and not that much more expensive on the second-hand market) and that's the one I still use today for street photography. By the way, the 27mm f2.8 lens is really sharp (especially when used at f5.8 for street work) and is my favourite Fuji lens (and I've had some great, much more expensive Fuji lenses)
Hi Tom, actually Fujifilm will happily replace your rubber if you send the camera to them. They did this for free for me in germany and I was out of warrenty for 5 years.
I replaced mine on my own, because after looking up recent quotes (reddit forum) showed it was roughly $300-$400 CAD just to replace skin rubber.... which is how much I paid when I bought the camera last year... so I bought a replacement rubber skin from ali express
Oh I reached out to Fuji NA before replacing it myself. I sent them a photo of the state of my xt1 showing the rubber peeling. They said I needed to send the camera to them, and then they send me quote after. Didnt say how long that will overall take either. So yeah, just changed it myself. Turned out great if I say so myself! ^^
I own a black and graphite version of the XT-1! Both are as new! I love them and never will sell it! The feel and the sensor are unique. ❤ Thanks for the video.
Love your video and I do use this camera as a daily but I have the same problem with the leather and I'm wondering if you could share the leatherette cutout template so i can do the replacement as well
Really curious about the full walkthrough of the customization of the leather, would it be possible to ask for a tutorial on the whole process? I have an X-T10 and the rubber's also stretched so I was hoping to remedy the grips, looking forward to hear from you, thanks!
There really wasn't much more to add - I covered it all in the video. The die-cutter was a game changer as I couldn't imagine trying to cut the leather by hand. It'd be a nightmare! If you have any questions though, just let me know.
@@TomCalton thanks Tom! I'll go and try it out myself, been itching to replace the grips on mine 😅 i dont know how ill go on about making a template on the grips for the x-t10 but ill try and do my best to learning how ill do it in illustrator, if u have tips id be happy to hear 'em out! Thanks again!❤ Love the content
Do you have the templates for the leather? It happened to mine and i don't know where to find the cutout. And i finally found someone who did it great.
I bought as soon as it was released and still got it. I love it and I also use it with manual lenses. The rubber issue was a service done free of charge by fuji back in the day here in Germany.
I bought an X20 as a 'fun' point and shoot in 2013. At the time I was still using Nikons for work (Real Estate/Architecture). Shortly after that, I got an X-A1 with XC16-50 kit and an XF27/2.8. So much smaller than my Nikons and the flip LCD allowed me to not have to crouch down any more. I COULD shoot flip LCD with the Nikons with 'mirror up' mode, but the mirror was held up electronically and it chewed through batteries VERY quickly that way.) The X-A1 was OK, but the CCD (rather than the X-Trans) wasn't ideal and I DO like having an eye level finder too. I kept my Nikons for Events and Portraits. As soon as the X-T1 hit the streets I took a look and was floored. I bought the first one delivered to my State the first day they hit the streets. The VF was GINORMOUS and it just fit my hand perfectly. I got that X-T1 and went 'all in' with Fuji and sold off all of my Nikon cameras and lenses. Lack of a joystick didn't bother me...the 17 years of my photography career was made with manual focus cameras only and I now have 38 years of muscle memory focusing in the center and recomposing my shot and making the exposure. With a Half Press of the shutter button...I still can't get the hang of rear button Autofocus. I'm WAY faster with this using AF-S center focos than using AF-C or AF-A or pushing the active AF point around the screen with my thumb. I've had 18 other X Bodies since that first X-T1 purchase (I got a second one in Titanium the day the X-T1 was discontinued...sold it a few years ago) and I use an X-T3 for work these days (and three X-E4 bodies for fun most of the time) but I still have that original X-T1 (with the vertical grip) and still love it. (Still have my X20 too.) MY X-T1 is covered over in leopard spotted duct tape rather than nicely cut red leather. Fuji was grand and sent me a replacement set of rubber body covering the first time it fell off and that second skin lasted just about another year. The Ti model was starting to get bad when I sold it. After that second covering fell off, I got creative and the duct tape has actually held up VERY well in the years since (though it's not in my hand 8hrs a day/5 days a week any more either.) It's always a conversation piece when I DO take it out to play though. :) Excellent video.
Yes, but it won't lock your focus and when you recompose, whatever is under the center AF when you push the shutter ALL the way is what will be in focus. I don't always want the center of my frame in focus, sometimes my subject I want in focus is off center.
I just bought my X-T1 a month or so ago and have been loving it ever since. I finally get the results I’ve been looking for that my previous cameras haven’t had the ability to do. I can from the canon R series, specifically the R8, and I’m super happy with the switch.
Hi where can I get that red skin/sticker for xt1 ? Also video focus is bad even for zero movement video . Any tips to fix it . I used the 17-55 f2.8-4 lens .
@@NoName-tp5bb I went for the X-T10 (same specs as X-T1, minus weather sealing and worse EVF, IIRC) route. Quite pleased with the image quality, plus film simulations are really fun IMO. Was using it only for stills with 27mm/2.8 Fujinon (non-WR one). I'd say go for Fujifilm.
I had an E-M1. While I have a soft spot that (it being my first enthusiast camera), it’s performance paled in comparison to the Sony a7ii and iii that preceded it in my collection. And now that I’ve swapped to a Fuji xh2, I honestly can say that I’ve found a system that resonates with me. So, I’d say to go with the xt1 for the sensor size and the Fuji colours. The em1 fulfills a very specific niche, and unfortunately not one that suits most non-professional enthusiasts.
$250 is a massive steal... I've never seen anything lower than $400 for any xtrans camera. Even the fuji x10 (which is not an xtrans sensor) is like $350. Thats insane
MPB are usually very competitive on price to be fair. The one I bought was in "well used" condition, which explains the rubber. If you're happy to compromise on the cosmetic condition, you can get some real bargains.
Have 2 X-t1's and 1 X-t2. Really love everything about the one, except the autofocus which can miss even in direct sunlight with single point- and the 2 ain't much better. They particularly miss focus when you repeat the shot at the same distance- it's as if when it gets focus right and is then asked to shoot again, it freaks out and doesn't know what to do- "I got it right the first time, I can't take this anymore!" I'd say it misses focus about 10% of the time- which can bite ya! But if you manual... Reasons I initially bought it were: size, features and the superb 14mm- even with 16 megapixels it can still take some absolutely cracklin' photos!
The X-T1 is my first Fuji camera and still my main camera to use for everyday use. And yeah the rubber stretching thing is sad. I ripped mine off, cut the excess off then glued it back again. Feels good as new to me I guess. Lol!
Oh, I love my XT1! I bought mine after I sold my XT3. I was surprised how good the overall quality of the camera, I liked the screen and view finder better comparing it to the Fuji XT20. It made photography for me extra fun, I find myself using all the buttons and dials of the camera, most of the time, I use manual lens with it. It's a photo first camera but from time to time I challenge myself, I take videos with it too. It's important to set expectations when you purchase an almost 10yr old camera. Overall, I'm happy with it. Mine is still in good condition, during the peak of pandemic I bought it for $300 USD, here in the Philippines currently the pricing is in between $400-$500 USD it can cost more if its in mint condition, based on the facebook marketplace. I wish I started photography with the XT1, learning the basics is much easier with it because of the physical dials, well that's just me. My most used film simulation are provia, colorchrome and monochrome. I use the XT1 for its strengths, it is important to know your tool. Wifi transfer within camera is also useful. You got yourself a new subscriber. 🎉
Hey, welcome aboard! 🙌🏻 I completely agree with your comment on having to set expectations with older gear. If you can do that, there's a lot of fun to be had with using older cameras. 🙂

I just bought one for the second time, because of it's very good price and quality. I also own a XT-2, which is an awesome camera! But i love the XT-1 for it's smaller size and the lovely x-trans 2 sensor. It's better to have an old but gold camera with me, than an expensive one at home.
Once again can you please share the CAD drawings for the leather? It’s hard to find replacements now and I don’t have any idea how to use CAD so please if you could share, thanks.
Hello mate. Do you still have the files/measurements used to cut the leather? Would really appreciate if you could share them. The skin of my xt1 is 100% gone, except the usb part.
Kudos to the custom leather case. I’m still using X-T1 in 2023. Just bought another X-T5 this month. Love its color rendering. No rubber issue. Always store camera in dry cabinet.
The xt1 was one of the first fuji film cameras I looked into cause I wanted to get into their eco system. When I finally had the money to buy one the prices went up and now all I can find is $400+ for one Ended up getting a canon eos M2 instead that I found for $180 from KEH and just made 3 picture profiles trying to imitate some film simulations. Still sad I couldn’t get a hold of a xt1 but I made do with the m2 for now.
I have an XT-20 and while I do like it very much, I find the UX and not being able to successfully connect it to my other devices very frustrating and that inability leads to disuse...
The X-T1 is my 2rd great love for a camera body. I started with an X-T30, bought an X-T4 and traded everything for an X-T5 when it came out. I also had a budget to get a second hand X-T1 IR converted camera... And while mine is an IR converted model, I would still love this camera. It's just got that 'je ne sais quoi', that soul. The X-T5 is a true successor of the X-T1 and X-T3. It really gives the same experience but with all the bells and whistles you'd want with a modern camera. But the nitty gritty of it, the X-T3 offers the same flexibility that the X-T1 does. And it's reasonably priced still. So if you're looking into fuji x mount cameras, the X-T1, 2 and 3 are all very good options. There is nothing wrong with the X-T4, but I feel like the hybrid camera slider swung way too much into the video with that body.
I had an X-T1 and really regret selling it all those years ago. I added the battery grip and along with giving it extended battery life, it made the whole package just the right size for me. I sold it to upgrade to the X-T3 when it was announced because I wanted the Acros film sim. Then it turned out that I used mostly Velvia, so I should've just kept the X-T1 : (
I got my X-T1 back in 2014 and have loved it ever since. Bonus, it hasn’t shed its skin yet. I still love the images I take with it, despite having the X-T5 now. Glad you’re enjoying it. Im envious of that leather wrap. Looks great!
I absolutely love mine. It's just amazing. I have a 12mm 18mm 55 to 200 Then an M42 adaptor to use a f1.8 nifty 50 A helios 44-2 And a Tair 300 f4.5 And a set of extension tubes totalling up to 83.5mm I can't put it down even after 10 years of owning it. And yes mine is shedding its skin ha ha but it still smashes out some amazing amazing images. If you love full manual control over your camera then get one, you will not regret it.
@@TomCalton Thank you Tom. 28mm is great size for the landscape photography I do. I like the compactness of the lens especially on the Fuji. Best wishes from Northern Ireland 👍👍
The only problem is unless you find an absolute beater that some crackhead is selling, an X-T1 sells for at least $400. MPB or fleabay, that’s the going rate. That and is anyone else getting tired of “the $150 street camera” theme? It’s like, yeah eBay, old cameras and streets exist. 😂
Out of interest, why did you watch this video? If you're cynical about being able to buy second hand cameras cheap enough and the whole street photography format isn't your thing, then why watch? Genuinely interested as it feels odd that you'd complain about me delivering on the very 2 things the title of the video explicitly tells you the video is about.
I watched the video because I genuinely wanted to see a camera worth $150 and the title didn’t tell me so I had to watch it. This camera is definitely not going for that price and it does feel misleading and now I’m told it’s my fault for assuming that info from a vague thumbnail. I’m just not going watch these misleading content creators.
Lol you've got to have thick skin for the absolute utter tripe people love to comment on the internet. Carry on doing what you do Tom I've bought a lot of Sigma lenses based off your reviews.
My biggest problem is the plethora of young photographers inventing themselves as TH-cam street photography 'experts'. There are two names in particular, both British, who have big subscriber numbers but produce absolute garbage results and it's worrying that people blindly follow their 'advice'. A colleague of mine told me of one of them who he claimed he was 'London's leading street photographer'. When I then mentioned some respected London street photographer names to him, he hadn't heard of any of them, probably because they don't have TH-cam or Tiktok channels. That bothers me. However, if young people are getting into photography, that's a good thing and should not be discouraged. If young people are discovering older cameras for cheap, that's excellent. If they want to make a TH-cam video about it, what's the problem? And if other photographers discover these cameras because of it, then job done. I enjoyed this video, found it informative, the photos showcased were great, and I love this guy's enthusiasm. He's not telling us we should buy it and he's not telling us how the camera will improve our photography. He's just a camera nerd, and I love camera nerds on TH-cam! Writing shitty comments on his channel is for ar$eh0les. Oh, and the XT1 IS available on mpb for less than £200. I just checked.
That looks like a fun camera. I like all the dials! I can't quite justify buying yet another camera, but maybe I'll get that Brightin Star lens for my Sony A7.
can you please order a canon eos m next but then try photos instead of video, the original m from canon looks like an awesome camera for trips or just for around the house
My xt1 was immaculate condition when I bought it. But I have loved it too much so I’m also having the peeling leather casings. My approach was much more diy - I just used black duct tape. It gives it a punk rock n roll vibe that I quite like. I do not think I will ever sell it, even if I buy a newer xt model. Only thing I wish it could do is flip up back screen in portrait mode, like the xt2 onwards.
Its a classic a lovely camera I managed to pick one up for £180 pound needed a bit of TLC but it all works and produces lovely photographs the colours are great its also good at B&W.......
I like my T7, I do want an Xt1 and I want a Sony 5100, I want all the cheap small cameras but I also want to put the biggest lenses on them I can 😂 that brass pancake you use is awesome though
Haha! The ultimate dilemma. 😅 Yeah, I've really enjoyed using the Brightin Star 28mm. It won't be for everyone, but it's my new favourite lens at the moment
I had this camera for a year while waiting for the X-T5 to tide me over, when I got the X-T5, months later I asked myself "why did I sell that camera again?" Not that I like it more than the X-T5 or anything, it's just that there are some types of shots the X-T1 is just better at, in fact if I buy another I'll make it basically dedicated to black & white photography. The X100T is another option for that kind of use.
I sold mine and bought an X-T2 some time ago and I'm still not sure if that was the right decision. Sure, feature-wise the X-T2 is an upgrade and the image quality might objectively be better, but I feel like the X-T1 had an even better and more believable analog vibe - the noise at higher ISO always looked like pleasant film-grain, which is kind of still the case with the X-T2 but the higher resolution makes for a finer grain and I think I preferred the more gritty style. Maybe I'm just tripping tho.
Unfortunately, 1mo later and here in the US mpb is completely out of them and on eBay lowest price is about $450, only about $100 less than the lowest price of the XT2. Still, I never really considered Fuji cameras till now. Those manual dials are *exactly* what I’ve been wanting as I learned (B&W) photography on an original Canon F-1 and wanted to get back to focusing on the basics with a 50mm equivalent prime. Found a used X-T2 with a shutter count of 69 for $550 and gonna go with that.
Please my brother could you help me , i bought a new fuji xt1 in the box but i cant update the new firmware i dont know why , i find the 1.0 firmeware . When i puted the last firmware yhey told me off the camera this is a corrupted firmeware off the camera
With that new leather, what jumped into my head was a memory of the camera I started out using when learning about photography. My mother allowed me to borrow her 1950's Halina, in a brown leather case. As with this, the top surface held a set of dials (although not quite so many). Your choice of lens also harkened back to the fully manual lens, with its little levers for setting the aperture and focus . . . Now I want an XT-1, dammit . . .
Just sold my X-T1 again. It’s been my third and I’m sure it won’t be my last. I’m a strange man 😂 But it was again a (great!) year of use for no money. Down to my X100V now.
Nice job on the reskin! Unfortunately, in time, oils from your fingers will attack the self stick adhesive, causing it to fail just as the original did. Here is the remedy: Superglue. I like the gel type myself. Use isopropyl alcohol to remove old adhesive and oils (contaminants) from fingers, that is on the camera. This leaves a clean surface which is a requirement. Be very careful to keep the Superglue from touching any part of the to be camera not to be covered with reskin. It will stain the surface. Original tactile rubber cover can be reinstalled if in good condition. Must be clean as well as the camera.
The cheapest one I found on ebay is $500. I've also watched five or six of your videos and every time you quote a price you got a camera, its usually more than double or more on a variety of used camera sites.
its a pattern for these type of videos: saw another video of another youtuber talking about an obscure fuji camera that is at least 10yrs old, was $150 at the time, now is $800, sounds like a conspiracy theory but it seems like they want to gatekeep everyone out of this activity
I bought this when it was current model then sold it a while later for a stupidly low price which I now regret. Feeling nostagic I just bought it's smaller brother the X-T10! I love the results from my Sony's but sometimes you want something different. The X-T1 with 18-55 OSS is a great combo
This camera will always be in my collection of Nikon, Lumix, Pentax, Sony and Minoltas. If something happened to it, I would replace it. But the the Nikon Z50 is the one I carry the most these days.
If you do purchase this camera make sure you update the firmware. My only criticism of this video is that the need to update the firmware wasn't mentioned. When the X T1 first came out, well it kind of sucked. Watch Tony and Chelsea Northrup's review of the X T2. At the intro they first show their early review when the X T1 first came out, they weren't impressed. But they did a quick review in the X T2 video to show what had changed at and after the 4.0 firmware was released for the "one" version. Today the firmware edition is substantially higher than 4.0 but the 4.0 release is really necessary to turn the X T1 into a decent camera.
I own a X-T1, before videos like this started the hype again. I got it for quite cheap few years back. And it is absolutely brilliant. Build quality is good, I love the big viewfinder. I guess resolution got much better, but it is big and you actually can evaluate what you are shooting. It was back then the first time I have seen an electronic viewfinder and understood the benefits in comparison to an DSLR optical viewfinder. Only few years back, the viewfinder in Sony APS-C cameras was just bad and not fun to use. Also had an X-T10 testwise, and its viewfinder was really bad and small in comparison, despite being relatively similar in general. I also love the size if zhe X-T1, the later generations are significantly bigger. Of course, this camera is best for stills only. The AF ist slow, face recognition isn't great. But it can deliver such beautiful images. I also have an X-E3 with an X-Tran III sensor, and I have used an X-T4 of a friend with an X-T IV sensor. And even though AF greatly improved, as well as low light capabilities, somehow the old X-T1 generates the most beautiful pictures out of cam. They have a kind of texture and a "warmth" in it. And it looks and works so harmonically with the old 35mm 1.4 and the 56mm 1.2. However, there are several old gems out there that are similarly good for the purpose. Several old mFT bodies are pretty cheap and good for example (including some lenses). Modern cameras have their advantages, but most cameras build from 2010 on are great, even older cameras can produce great images. Just saw an old Canon 1Ds mkii for 150€. A tank, 16MP Fullframe. Wisley used still a workhorse that can create stunning results. But far from compact or lightweight.
i jumped from nikon d600 , without enough testing. my clients were mad because i didnt realised, the photos were soft. i hated it since then. though i love the color and the tech, i still prefer the old nikon d600.
It seems there's a big difference in the used price here in the UK vs in the US. Though that said, you could try eBay or Facebook marketplace. Part of the fun of buying second hand is finding a bargain, which requires patience and determination. Good luck!
Do you really think that this video drove up the price of this camera in 1 day? MPB can't even grade the condition of their stock right, let alone alter prices in such a short period of time 😂
Bought this 6 years ago coming from Canon. Canon is great albeit plastic. I wanted something that mimicked the film look and mechanical tactility. Fuji provided. Shooting Fuji is like hopping back into a manual car. Finicky, but once you master it, you master every platform because of the difficulty curve. I've done tons of professional work with stills and it excels for my style. In the moment, how I see it, film like, smooth and creamy stills and video. It doesn't excel at uber sharp imaging, which this isn't meant for.
@@TomCalton I have the XT1 the XT2 and the XT3 as well as the XT4 .. and I still use the XT1 for a professional work, and it stands up against the other ones very well when it comes through image performance and the colors that it provides when you get your settings right it is on point I am going to buy another one as well because I like it just that much time I’m going to buy the silver edition, but do not get me wrong. It is an older camera, but I know how to use it and my customers love the images that a produces so no this camera is not just for fun is for work and I have fun working with it..
As I mentioned in the video, mine was particularly cheap because of its poor condition. So, if you don't mind your camera looking a little rough around the edges, this can be a great way to save some money.
Not such a fan of the dead animal, but the red colour does look nice. I've done something similar with pink faux leather on my olympus EM5, although that was just for aesthetics, the existing faux leather showed no sign of budging. I'm a big fan of the everything on a dial, I may have to check out the fuji options when it's time to upgrade.
@@mynameisben123 I’m a photographer. I used several cameras and I noticed that adding filming to cameras has a drawback on the photography features in the camera. Making videos is ok, but I want a camera only for photography.

The X-T1 paired with the XF 23mm or 35mm f2 are just gold ! The micro contrast is blowing my mind each time.
That X-trans II sensor has a silky smoothness not found in any of the other x-trans models. It is special.
I've yet to shoot with a bad x-trans sensor to be fair!

Seeing your video, I may dust off my XT1 and pop on a manual lens and take it out for some fun. BTW, I did have my XT1 professionally reskinned by Fujifilm of North America - perfect!!! ❤
My XE1 and XT1 story is same as yours but I eventually upgraded to XH1 and XPro3. Still love my XT1 as the camera I hake on hikes.
@@photographer8486The best camera is the one you have with you!
I went from x-t10 to x-pro1, only thing im missing is pivotable lcd
the pro-1 is a magnificent piece of technology, it's a but pricier at times, but for street photography, the dual mode viewfinder is awesome

TRY 18MM F2
Hi Tom,
actually Fujifilm will happily replace your rubber if you send the camera to them. They did this for free for me in germany and I was out of warrenty for 5 years.
Good to know! Too late for me of course, but hopefully this can help someone else. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the video.
Love your video and I do use this camera as a daily but I have the same problem with the leather and I'm wondering if you could share the leatherette cutout template so i can do the replacement as well
I used both the X-E1 (1st Gen) and the X-E2 (2nd Gen.) and never complained about image quality, even in low light.
I have 2, black and graphite. Love them. Incidentally, the subsequent 4 models are not predecessors, they are successors
Nice! And yes, I realised that mistake during editing, which is why I flashed up the subtitle on screen during that section 😅🤦🏻♂️
is it true that the graphite one is a notch above in terms of how well it is built?
Really curious about the full walkthrough of the customization of the leather, would it be possible to ask for a tutorial on the whole process?
I have an X-T10 and the rubber's also stretched so I was hoping to remedy the grips, looking forward to hear from you, thanks!
There really wasn't much more to add - I covered it all in the video. The die-cutter was a game changer as I couldn't imagine trying to cut the leather by hand. It'd be a nightmare!
If you have any questions though, just let me know.
@@TomCalton thanks Tom! I'll go and try it out myself, been itching to replace the grips on mine 😅
i dont know how ill go on about making a template on the grips for the x-t10 but ill try and do my best to learning how ill do it in illustrator, if u have tips id be happy to hear 'em out! Thanks again!❤ Love the content
Do you have the templates for the leather? It happened to mine and i don't know where to find the cutout. And i finally found someone who did it great.
Hey!! Awesome video, is there a way you could share the illustrator file so we can go get DIY and change the peeling grips?
I would second this but it looks like it would be fourths or fifths by this point. Indeed, please share 🙏🏼
I bought as soon as it was released and still got it. I love it and I also use it with manual lenses. The rubber issue was a service done free of charge by fuji back in the day here in Germany.
also got reskin in Germany still good .
(Still have my X20 too.)
MY X-T1 is covered over in leopard spotted duct tape rather than nicely cut red leather. :)
Excellent video.
You can use AF-C with half press shutter
Yes, but it won't lock your focus and when you recompose, whatever is under the center AF when you push the shutter ALL the way is what will be in focus. I don't always want the center of my frame in focus, sometimes my subject I want in focus is off center.
Their bayer sensor cameras are great too. I had an x-a3 and the pgotos were so clean and sharp at high iso
Me too. I actually prefer the color rendering of the original X100. I wish they took that filter and applied it to its 40Mpx sensors.
I just bought my X-T1 a month or so ago and have been loving it ever since. I finally get the results I’ve been looking for that my previous cameras haven’t had the ability to do. I can from the canon R series, specifically the R8, and I’m super happy with the switch.
Glad to hear it's worked out for you! 💪🏻
In what way did you find the X-T1 to be better than the R8? Just asking as I'm considering the opposite move really
Hi where can I get that red skin/sticker for xt1 ? Also video focus is bad even for zero movement video . Any tips to fix it . I used the 17-55 f2.8-4 lens .
that cam leather makes it unique af! nice. that thing is yours forever now because its you
I'm considering the Olympus OM D E-M1 vs Fujifilm XT1, not considering the price since they are quite close where I lived. Any advice?
Got my X-T1 yesterday. Now thinking about lens opportunities.
Awesome! I hope you enjoy it 😄
Spent a long week-end in Oundle last year so this brought back some very pleasant memories. Cheers.
Hope you enjoyed your visit ☺️
$250 is a massive steal... I've never seen anything lower than $400 for any xtrans camera. Even the fuji x10 (which is not an xtrans sensor) is like $350.
Thats insane
MPB are usually very competitive on price to be fair. The one I bought was in "well used" condition, which explains the rubber. If you're happy to compromise on the cosmetic condition, you can get some real bargains.
I bought an XT1 about 2 weeks ago in UK from an online camera shop for £235. Seems in very good nick. Loving it.
@@iandisney4872 haha you lot must have been lucky, i bagged mine for £350. Prices are on the up again :(
Have 2 X-t1's and 1 X-t2.
@@stanb.5261 hi can you tell me if xt1 still worth even for video or xt2 ?
@@Chibidana Don't know squat about video- but Definitely don't get the X-T1 for video!
I completely agree with your comment on having to set expectations with older gear. If you can do that, there's a lot of fun to be had with using older cameras. 🙂

@@TomCalton is there any chance you still have that template for cutting out the leather?
I remember when it first came out....man I am getting old :) Happy Thanksgiving from the US!
You're as young as you feel David! And happy Thanksgiving to you too 🦃
Kudos to the custom leather case. I’m still using X-T1 in 2023. Just bought another X-T5 this month. Love its color rendering. No rubber issue. Always store camera in dry cabinet.
Thank you. Do you still use your X-T1 as much now you have the X-T5? Glad to hear you've not had the same rubber drama as I have with mine! 😅
@@TomCalton I use X-T1 + 35/F1.4 less now after got X-T5. But this combo helped me record years of good memories. :)
My Trusty XT-1 with the 18MM pancake is my go-to travel setup.
The xt1 was one of the first fuji film cameras I looked into cause I wanted to get into their eco system.
When I finally had the money to buy one the prices went up and now all I can find is $400+ for one
Ended up getting a canon eos M2 instead that I found for $180 from KEH and just made 3 picture profiles trying to imitate some film simulations. Still sad I couldn’t get a hold of a xt1 but I made do with the m2 for now.
Should I get xt1 or xm1?
It will be my first camera and I usually love doing street photography as my hobby
The biggest difference is whether you want/use a viewfinder (X-T1) or whether you prefer to have the smallest camera as possible (X-M1).
I've kept my fuji xt1 so long its become cool again.
Same 😂
I had an X-T1 and really regret selling it all those years ago. I added the battery grip and along with giving it extended battery life, it made the whole package just the right size for me. I sold it to upgrade to the X-T3 when it was announced because I wanted the Acros film sim. Then it turned out that I used mostly Velvia, so I should've just kept the X-T1 : (
I love my xt1 (my street photo camera) but it is shedding its skin. Any chance for us to get that template? I would love to fix it!
I got my X-T1 back in 2014 and have loved it ever since. Bonus, it hasn’t shed its skin yet. I still love the images I take with it, despite having the X-T5 now. Glad you’re enjoying it. Im envious of that leather wrap. Looks great!
Thanks Shawn! It was a labour of love for sure 😅
That was quite an excellent video presentation. Thank you so much. 😊
Thank you kindly - I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
I absolutely love mine. It's just amazing.
I have a 12mm
18mm
55 to 200
Then an M42 adaptor to use a f1.8 nifty 50
A helios 44-2
And a Tair 300 f4.5
And a set of extension tubes totalling up to 83.5mm
I can't put it down even after 10 years of owning it.
And yes mine is shedding its skin ha ha but it still smashes out some amazing amazing images.
If you love full manual control over your camera then get one, you will not regret it.
Hi Tom, I like the small lens you have on your XT1. Can I ask what make/model/ F stop it is plz..👍👍
No problem. It's the Brightin Star 28mm f/2.8 pancake. Link below if that helps?
bit.ly/brightinstar28mm
@@TomCalton Thank you Tom. 28mm is great size for the landscape photography I do. I like the compactness of the lens especially on the Fuji. Best wishes from Northern Ireland 👍👍
Fifth successor? You mean an x-t6?! Where'd you get that from?
What if I just bought a $400 Leica accessory though?
Should i go for xt200 or xt1 xt2 for photography within these budget of 450ish?
That looks like a fun camera. I like all the dials!
I can't quite justify buying yet another camera, but maybe I'll get that Brightin Star lens for my Sony A7.
My X-t1 Has the exact same wear patterns as yours. Atleast they're consistent?
I had the same issue with my rubber coming off and was able to just glue it back on with crazy glue and it has not been an issue.
which film sim are u using in the image quality part of the video?
can you please order a canon eos m next but then try photos instead of video, the original m from canon looks like an awesome camera for trips or just for around the house
It's already on my list 😉 The problem is I've got too many cameras I want to review and not enough time to create videos on them all! 😅
@@TomCalton thx for the reply, I look forward for the next camera review
Could you possibly share the template files for the covers? It would be appreciated.
I like my T7, I do want an Xt1 and I want a Sony 5100, I want all the cheap small cameras but I also want to put the biggest lenses on them I can 😂 that brass pancake you use is awesome though
Haha! The ultimate dilemma. 😅
Yeah, I've really enjoyed using the Brightin Star 28mm. It won't be for everyone, but it's my new favourite lens at the moment
I have been eyeing up this camera myself. Great video!
What's the difference with this and the ex1?
I had this camera for a year while waiting for the X-T5 to tide me over, when I got the X-T5, months later I asked myself "why did I sell that camera again?"
Not that I like it more than the X-T5 or anything, it's just that there are some types of shots the X-T1 is just better at, in fact if I buy another I'll make it basically dedicated to black & white photography.
How about video quality ? Is this something so different to not skip it ?
Unfortunately, 1mo later and here in the US mpb is completely out of them and on eBay lowest price is about $450, only about $100 less than the lowest price of the XT2. Still, I never really considered Fuji cameras till now. Those manual dials are *exactly* what I’ve been wanting as I learned (B&W) photography on an original Canon F-1 and wanted to get back to focusing on the basics with a 50mm equivalent prime.
Found a used X-T2 with a shutter count of 69 for $550 and gonna go with that.
Tom, I don't know in which world are you live, but the price for used fujifilm x-t1 starting from 400$.
Have you bought a broken one?
Just looked at lens price is 3129 JPY which is $27 CAD but BRIGHTIN STAR UK want 350 quid - aye right !
Please my brother could you help me , i bought a new fuji xt1 in the box but i cant update the new firmware i dont know why , i find the 1.0 firmeware . When i puted the last firmware yhey told me off the camera this is a corrupted firmeware off the camera
Nice to see Oundle. Haven't lived there for a while now. Still looks the same
Great vid! Any chance of you posting the cutout templates? That would be awesome!
Please drop the grip template. I don't know illustrator.😭😭😭😭
With that new leather, what jumped into my head was a memory of the camera I started out using when learning about photography.
My mother allowed me to borrow her 1950's Halina, in a brown leather case. As with this, the top surface held a set of dials (although not quite so many).
Your choice of lens also harkened back to the fully manual lens, with its little levers for setting the aperture and focus . . .
Now I want an XT-1, dammit . . .
Which is better xt1 vs xt10
This is my first digital camera which I appreciated very much and learn lots about photography then later on I bought my XT3 . 😊
Just sold my X-T1 again. It’s been my third and I’m sure it won’t be my last. I’m a strange man 😂
But it was again a (great!) year of use for no money. Down to my X100V now.
This leather replacement is great idea. Can you please share your template for rest of us?
Good to know! Thanks for the advice 😃
Can i please have your recipe that you used in this video ?
I have the Fuji XT1 as my picture profile on my Nikon D5500
Say whaaa?
The cheapest one I found on ebay is $500. I've also watched five or six of your videos and every time you quote a price you got a camera, its usually more than double or more on a variety of used camera sites.
its a pattern for these type of videos: saw another video of another youtuber talking about an obscure fuji camera that is at least 10yrs old, was $150 at the time, now is $800, sounds like a conspiracy theory but it seems like they want to gatekeep everyone out of this activity
Is this camera better than Fujifilm X-T 100 , X-T 5 or X-M 5 ?? and why ... many friendly greetings from ever-sunny NMW Belgium
Omg Oundle! Is Eastern Crisis and Trendalls still a thing - lol
I honestly couldn't tell you as I was only passing through and used it as an opportunity to take some photos. Did you live there at some point?
@@TomCalton was a student there 20 years ago - thanks for the dose of nostalgia
Sony A7ii is a good alternative (full frame for same or even less money)
Where you finding this for 250
I own a X-T1, before videos like this started the hype again.
But far from compact or lightweight.
i jumped from nikon d600 , without enough testing. my clients were mad because i didnt realised, the photos were soft. i hated it since then. though i love the color and the tech, i still prefer the old nikon d600.
damn where did you find this for so cheap? hipsters have driven the cost of this camera up so much. can't find it here for less than $400.
It seems there's a big difference in the used price here in the UK vs in the US. Though that said, you could try eBay or Facebook marketplace. Part of the fun of buying second hand is finding a bargain, which requires patience and determination. Good luck!
@@TomCalton i got my x-t1 when it was still around 300 well before youtube content about earlier fuji cams took off c:
Urm did anyoje actually buy it at that price ?
Congrats, you helped this camera gain 250$ of value due to this video...
Great video! I randomly bumped into your channel but happly stay for more ;)
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 😀
I have one and still use it XT1 👍👍
Nice! Is it your main camera, or just something you use for fun?
@@TomCalton I have the XT1 the XT2 and the XT3 as well as the XT4 .. and I still use the XT1 for a professional work, and it stands up against the other ones very well when it comes through image performance and the colors that it provides when you get your settings right it is on point I am going to buy another one as well because I like it just that much time I’m going to buy the silver edition, but do not get me wrong. It is an older camera, but I know how to use it and my customers love the images that a produces so no this camera is not just for fun is for work and I have fun working with it..
For roughly the same amount of money, you can also get a Sony a6000. Coming in at 24 MP, a much faster AF, less weight, ...
🤣🤣🤣🤣@6:30 lol . great little camera if you want to get into digital photography.
😜
In Germany the T-1 costs about as much as the T-2 and T-3. They‘re all around 500-600€. T-4 comes in at 900€. Without a lens.
if one can find an x-t3 for 500 or 600, that would be a fantastic price in my view
When you said "$250 American" I got excited. Looked it up and these are now fetching $500-600 UDS and up. Looks like a great camera, though.
As I mentioned in the video, mine was particularly cheap because of its poor condition. So, if you don't mind your camera looking a little rough around the edges, this can be a great way to save some money.
Pair w the legendary xf 35mm f1.4 and I'm all set 😎📸
Not such a fan of the dead animal, but the red colour does look nice. I've done something similar with pink faux leather on my olympus EM5, although that was just for aesthetics, the existing faux leather showed no sign of budging.
I'm a big fan of the everything on a dial, I may have to check out the fuji options when it's time to upgrade.
Thanks to videos like this, this camera is like 500 now
Nice video. I really hope that someday camera factures bring out cameras dedicated to photography without video.
What’s the benefit of removing video features?
@@mynameisben123 I’m a photographer. I used several cameras and I noticed that adding filming to cameras has a drawback on the photography features in the camera. Making videos is ok, but I want a camera only for photography.
Price for one.
Why do the titles always say 250 or 200€
