    ive worked on 700hp 7ms and stock ones. as a 7m owner and modifier, EVERYTHING you said is 100% accurate. i cant tell you how many times ive said to people.
    "theyre like subaru motors. theyre a little finiky and you have to treat the right or the headgasket blows!" i cheered when you put it in S teir they need more love!

    • @running2redline
      @running2redline  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s sounds like a great time owning one! Glad I got that accurate, I found so many mixed opinions that made it a hard read. Despite its Subaru like qualities, they really are awesome and underrated engines, cool to see people are still keeping them going!

    • @Boeing-ER-jy9vq
      @Boeing-ER-jy9vq ปีที่แล้ว +5

      rebuilding a 7M right now, its probably the most simple engine ive ever worked on. If people treat it right, it will last as long as any other toyota. its not a miata and it cant be treated like one too. Throw on a mhg and some arp head studs and youre set!

    • @griffins750
      @griffins750 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As long as you have proper head studs and torque them properly (and aren’t trying to make literal “stupid” amounts of power) they should be a wonderful engine… Never understood why they get so much hate, I’d take them every single day over a Subie engine…

    • @lr-entertainment6232
      @lr-entertainment6232 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fellow 7M-GTE owner here with a Mk3 Supra. I myself can't say how much I love this thing!
      Without covering anything up, the previous owner blew a radiator and thus the headgasket, which I replaced, followed by a whole revision half a year later, just for my mind to KNOW what has been done on the engine and what's inside it.
      After 170.000 Kilometer and probably some iffy pre-owners, I thought it's a good investment in the future.
      Running it's stock boost with a nice intake and exhaust, I really don't need any more punch.
      Let me tell you guys what my typical lines are when talking about this engine:
      Is the 7M good for just pushing the horsepowers up without caring?
      No-
      Is it THE most rev happy engines with 7000, 8000, 9000 rpm?
      No-
      Is it a racehorse?
      Not really, at least not for me-
      But oooohhhh boy... Does this thing PULL with an unfaltering force of one of those cold-blooded horses used in forestry.
      For this facts I shall keep up lovingly calling it ,,My marine engine".
      . . I hope I'm making any sense here, just stating some of the things I admire on the 7M--

    You’re doing great work. I love having this information presented this way. Have you covered the 1UZFE motor yet? It’s interesting that in the southern hemisphere they get turbo’d often and in the northern hemisphere you never see them with turbos.

      @running2redline  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you. I haven’t done the 1UZFE but will likely circle back to V8s at some point. I didn’t know that but that’s quite intriguing. Any reason why the turbo setups are popular there?

    • @matan6737

      @@running2redlinethe UZ is the defacto performance v8 swap since the LS is uncommon outside the US. The JZ is also heavy as hell and sits very far forward. A built UZ can get 1000 hp with a twin turbo and forged internals on a stock block.

  • @HotSneks
    @HotSneks ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think the TB and it's diesel brother the TD deserve a bit more praise. The TB for it's time was praised for it's off-roading capabilities, and a lot of people would even argue that the Y60 Patrol with the TB42 was what got Toyota to step up and develop the 1FZ for the newer 80 series Land Cruisers.

    A 5M and 2JZ owner here with a 1986 Toyota Cressida and 2001 Lexus GS 300, I would say you pretty much got it spot on. Although I would've put the 5M on S tier right after the 7M since it was pretty much the first DOHC in the M series that was used in more than one car like the 3M was with the 2000GT, the 5M is a really solid engine and i've never had any problems with it at all for the past 4 years i've owned my 86 Cressida, scorching summers, winter blizzards, your daily driver? No problem at all! Ran my 5M-GE with really low oil and coolant by accident (me not checking them) one time and it still is going like a champ for an almost 40 year old engine. Love the M and JZ series engines and hello to my fellow lads that have these family engines, keep on rocking and cruising with these bulletproof engines, they're something special!

    The final and most powerful engine in the RB Series, the RB28DETT was only put in 20 cars(The R34 GTR Z-Tune). 493 hp was the number that Nissan put in marketing due to “insurance reasons” or so I’ve read. Knowing Japanese engines of the time, it probably makes over 500.

    Fun fact about the L series engines, they were created by taking a Prince 4 Cylinder engine and adding two cylinders to it… What’s even funnier is that that Prince 4 Cylinder engine was originally a Mercedes 6 Cylinder design that they then chopped two cylinders off of 😂😂😂
    Also a modified early L24-L28 with Triple carbs is one of the best sounding Japanese engines ever made and they can make great power for what they are as well…
    Source: Jason Cammisa’s video on the 240Z, give it a watch, it’s not his best video, but it’s still fantastic (my personal favorites are the 500e, Miura, and NSX, as well as some of his other videos for Hagerty like his video on the definitive M3)
