SM Teo responds to Leong Mun Wai on public perception of Ridout Road rentals by ministers

  • Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean on Monday (Jul 3) responded in parliament to NCMP Leong Mun Wai's comments suggesting Ridout Road properties are "relatively cheaper public bungalows” rented by Ministers K Shanmugam and Vivian Balakrishnan.
Said Mr Leong: “Don't you think the two ministers should have considered the possibility of negative public perception? Because Singaporeans are already saying the ministers are paid million dollars of salaries. The ministers have private bungalows of their own and they still go and rent a relatively cheaper public bungalow, which however are the three most prestigious bungalows in Singapore and having the government to fork out over a million dollars to reinstate the bungalows before they move in? Don’t you think that scenario conjures up a very bad picture?”
Mr Teo responded: “It's not true and you can see the facts for yourself that it is not true … The bungalows are rented out at market rates.”

Who in the freaking world will pay S$400K - S$500K on a rented property to do renovations & STILL pay S$26K a month which is not yours to own thereafter? The government DIDN'T even answer that question yet. Shouldn't SLA or whichever government department owns those Bangalow be responsible enough to fork out that money to do up at least livable conditions before renting?!
On top of EVERYTHING else. IF you owned a GCB house, WHY would you want to rent out your unit to rent another if it's MORE expensive to rent the one to live in?! WTH?! The MORE they explain, the MORE we know that they're NOT FIT to be in Government. ALL No logic one! Goodness!

Well, let me illustrate to you another perspective on this. So these individuals are the people governing our nation and making the big decisions for our country's future and what-not. If they were somewhat ill and if that might impair their abilities to work in their hired capacities, would you not want them treated ASAP? Or would you rather they quit and a new hire be found? If they were only a rank and file employee in roles that readily have many capable candidates, sure. But do you think it would be easy to find a replacement of a similar qualification, capability and experience in a short period of time? I would put it to you that in the amount of time needed to find such a replacement, the incumbent would have already seen the medical specialist, started on their treatment, and back in their jobs, versus the new hire who would still be finding his feet in his new job, provided you can actually find someone in that short span of time. So priority for members of the govt, sure I can accept that. But where I would draw the line is excessive "discounts" for products and services etc. Like some minister's rumoured $8 heart surgery.

The ministerial statements did not conclusively determine KS and VB innocence. Instead, it had brought up more questions in the minds of the public and even surfaced incriminating evidence to their crimes. In KS's speech, he affirmed that CPIB only " look through" his phone and did not find any relevant information because he had his phone set to "delete messages". This might have shown KS's intent to obstruct justice by destroying key evidence to all his alleged crimes. I am urging PM Lee to reopen the criminal investigation into KS and VB citing the new revelation. CPIB must raid KS and VB to detain and use digital forensic technologies to retrieve all deleted files as soon as possible before all data are lost permanently. If the two ministers are found to have committed crimes, they must be trialed and punished with the full force of the law. If PM Lee refuses to reopen the criminal investigation, then the public must conclude that the PAP in no longer incorruptible. This will mean devastating consequences for the PAP in the upcoming general election.

Time for us to see through the 'mischief' he and his gang are threading into the fragile fabric of a multiracial Singapore. Note his modus operandi: first attack CECA, now go for particular INDIAN local ministers! And, in the process, insinuate a 'weaker' incongruous PAP. Next, what? I shudder to think what will happen to a multiracial, multicultural Singapura if his party is elected into office. Imagine, the National Anthem being 'modified' to suit his version of what Singapura ought to be!!! Wake up fellow Singaporeans: we have wolves in sheep clothing in high places, poised to upset our racial harmony. ⚠️

It was reported in the ST News that In response to media queries on the issue, the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), which manages state properties, said on May 12 that both ministers had rented the properties through a bidding process, with Mr Shanmugam the sole bidder for 26 Ridout Road and Dr Balakrishnan the highest bidder for 31 Ridout Road.
So now we know that both the ministers rented the properties under direct leasing.
