- In this video, I remove the rest of the gimbal housing from the transom area of my Crownline 202BR. I need to do this to remove a worn out gimbal ring. The worn out gimbal ring makes my boat difficult to accurately steer. I remove the inner transom plate and pull the gimbal housing/transom assembly off the boat leaving a hole in the hull about the size of a volleyball!

Update on mine. Transom assembly is just to far gone for me to wanna put any money into rebuilding it so ordered a new one and Pulled the engine yesterday. Gonna remove the assembly this weekend so far I can tell the transom isn’t 100% but I only see one spot by one of the bolts that is split open. Hopefully she isn’t to bad 🤞🏼 so far it’s definitely some work but pulling the engine was easier than I thought it would be just wish I had a shop to do it myself instead on a buddy’s skid steer with a boom on it lol
Good call on a new assembly. Might not be mint but it sounds like it's miles ahead of where you were with the original one. Keep after it!

With all that rust around the 8 bolts holding the transom assembly on are you sure your transom isn't wet inside?
Mine looked like that and the transom plywood was black and brown but still felt hard, had to replace it.
It could probably use some help in that department yes. However it spends most of its time on a trailer and I'm not trying to pick at that thread lol

Hey great video! Very detailed. Question, what’s the likelihood I could get the transom plate and gimbal housing removed without removing the engine? Like if I removed the steering unit and exhaust, is it possible? Im trying to liquid repair my transom with carbon core and really don’t want to deal with removing the engine. Transom is soft but floors are solid. But if I don’t remove the plate and housing, it’ll be permanently sealed. Thanks in advance for any advice!
I'm not going to say its impossible because I've never tried it personally but I bet it is not possible. There is little to no room back there even with the exhaust removed. The bolts for the Y pipe are at the bottom and right in the middle. It will be much better to take the engine out. Also, by the time the outdrive is removed and the exhaust is all removed you're pretty close to getting the engine out anyway. If I can guess, most are not wanting to remove the engine due to not having a hoist or forklift or something like that. If it was me and I was needing something, I would unbolt the engine completely and just leave it sitting on the stringers. Then I would drive to a tractor dealer and offer them 50 bucks or something to hoist it out. Most of the places around here are very nice and would help. It would be easier and cheaper than building a gantry crane setup. Anyway, hope this doesn't derail your project.
@@605BOLT ya man it’s a combo of no hoist and not having a lick of machanical knowledge. It was a free boat that I’ve poured a good amount into. I’m researching how to proceed forward on filling that transom in. Soft all around the outdrive (I can push my finger through the inner fiberglass wall, so that wood is essentially gone, but top half still solid. Nice boat otherwise!
@@trethewaymedia2725 dang. Ya a transom repair is expensive and time consuming. Just about worst case scenario. I would rather rebuild an engine haha. But lots of people do those repairs. Take the motor out, remove the transom, remove the inside layer of fiberglass until you find solid wood, add fresh wood to replace, redo inside fiberglass, cut the hole, drill the through holes and put everything together. Takes about 30 seconds to write but I couldn't even guess how long to do. Big job for sure.
@@605BOLT ya that’s why I was going to use a product like carbon core and pour into the transom. I know some people who had great results and the transom will now outlast the boat. Easier on an outboard. Oh well wish me luck if I decide to tackle it

By any chance do you know if bravo 3 outdrive comes out on neutral or reverse?
I just looked in my service manual for bravo removal. It says neutral. Hope this helps. 👍
@@605BOLT Thanks bud. I put a piece of wood on top and moved up and down as in the videos I've seen but the thing wont come out :-(
Ah dang it! I have never worked on a Bravo yet so I have no experience. My boat isn't that big to have a Bravo. I wish! I hope you get it to come apart!

Salut chris. Je ne parle pas français mais j'ai parcouru votre commentaire via Google Translate et il semble que vous demandiez comment retirer le klaxon et comment retirer l'échappement. Peut-être que la question a changé lors de la traduction. Quoi qu'il en soit, pour retirer l'échappement, j'ai utilisé divers tournevis et douilles pour retirer d'abord la colonne montante d'échappement. Enlevez-le d'abord, puis les pièces se détachent toutes ensemble. Je n'ai jamais eu à retirer le klaxon sur ce bateau donc je n'en sais rien. J'espère que cela vous aidera et je suis désolé de ne pas comprendre votre langue. Merci d'avoir regardé mes videos!
