  • In this video, I remove the worn out gimbal ring from the gimbal housing. I also remove the worn swivel shaft and steering shaft. The gimbal bearing needed to be pressed out and replaced as well. I hope this video helps you on your project!!

I had to replace my gimbal ring as well. Mine was cracked where yours is worn. Common problem it seems. They are a lot of $$ even used

Omg I know. Crazy sierra or somebody doesn't make them or at least I didn't see them if they do. Dang 800 bucks for a new one. I got a remachined one instead. Half the price but you need a good core to exchange.

To built up swivel pin by arc welding and fine by grinder to fit the shape of the seat.

I got a rebuilt gimbal ring and a new swivel shaft just to be sure. Wasn't too expensive.

If I missed it, then please let me know the time on your video, but you didn't show how the lower steering shaft comes out?

You're right. I couldn't hardly film that at all due to the location and lack of room. There was a goofy little cover that goes over it with a bolt that is used as a pin. It was a pretty serious pain in the ass go undo. Sorry I missed that.

Can you get the gimble swivel shaft/steering shaft without removing whole assembly

It would be very difficult. See the end of this video: th-cam.com/video/XvCWkqIszyU/w-d-xo.html
The shaft is buried deep in the housing. If anything, you will probably have to try and drill the sides of the housing to undo the nut on the top of the swivel shaft. Mercruiser makes a kit for this. I hope this answers your question. Hit me up here if I can further clarify.

I definitely recommend calling Ron at JR Marine. He was very helpful to me. He is a Bravo expert!
