  • This is the first part of putting a MerCruiser Alpha One sterndrive bell housing back on after disassembly and cleaning. It takes a good bit of time to do this but if your diligent and have some patience it can be conquered!
    Enjoy and look for part 2 coming where I put the shift cable assembly back in.

    If you spray the outside of the hose with silicone spray once u get them into place, the clamps will slide over them easy

    Very informational, I replaced the bellows on my volvo penta a couple years ago and it seemed a little easier then that mercruiser. Thanks for the content Ted.

    Thanks for the video. Very informative. Do you have any suggestions on where to get parts from. I'm finding a large difference between prices on the bellows kits that include the clamps hoses gimbal bearing ect.

    Hello Ted
    You’re videos are absolutely top notch
    I saw that while you were installing the gimbal bellows that you attached the bellows to the bell housing first,would that work the same for a gen two
    Thanks for all videos

    Do you a long open time on that bellows adhesive?

    Do you need a exhaust bellows at all on this type of Drive does it have to cool the lower end at all where the impeller is or does it not need to have the exhaust go down and out of the prop is water needed in that area at higher speed

    • @tedsmarinerepair8956
      @tedsmarinerepair8956  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The exhaust bellows helps direct the exhaust into the exhaust chamber of the drive and out through the prop. It also quiets down the exhaust noise. without it, you have the chance of exhaust fumes coming up over the transom if the wind is behind you.

    Very informative video. thank you. one question though, do I need to use the adhesive to glue the the bellows In place ?

      @@tedsmarinerepair8956 Yes, use the adhesive. If not, the bellows can slide off while you are on the water and your boat can sink. The adhesive is $10

    I’m in the process of installing new bellows and trim sensors…I’m having a tough time getting the upper second bolt of the bracket out (gen 1) where the sensor wires pass through the transom housing. I can’t get a good purchase with my 7/16 wrench or a socket. Do you have any recommendations on the best:easiest way to get it out??

    • @tedsmarinerepair8956
      @tedsmarinerepair8956  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a 15 degree wobble extension that may aid you in getting at that bolt

      That bolt is a burger on the gen 1, use a 7/16 open end wrench.
