For real. I heard about it a few days ago and wanted to get the madness talisman, so I figured I would give it a shot. I'm far from a parry God, but I got the parry off first try and everytime after that. There was one point where there were two of them, but they were pretty far apart. I aggro'd the first one and parried him, and then the other one just teleported right behind me and I parried him while the first one was staggered. They ended up killing me, but that was the only time I died after that. I was looking forward to exploring the area, but it was pretty lackluster
Well yeah they have probably the most easy and forgiving parry window in the game

I thought about fighting it and remembered reading “it cannot be touched” and then proceeded to keep running and panicking like a scared little girl… (I died 3 times before I finally managed to make it to the next grace)
@@chasecaviness5819 there is a video i stumbled on showing how to parry it. If you have the right shield it is easy. I tried golden parry on a shield and couldnt get the timing right. Switched shields and ran through them. They don't re spawn as far as i can tell

You can parry them, then do a visceral attack. The first one you kill drops a charm the rest drop swollen grapes.
These are essentially weaker winter lanterns.
Before setting out on a revenge massacre, you might want to equip a focus boosting charm incase you have to run because you failed the parry window.
No, only the specific one with a statue of Marika present drops the talisman. Which is the one closest to the church.

Found the first one, then realized I couldn't land a hit. Took off running and it chased me on foot, into two more. They jumped me... I found out they can be parried and came back with a vengeance. Damn the runes!!!
With my current Level, I don’t care about the rune anyone

But better. For one, there's good stealth mechanics. For another, they're much creepier due to the whole untouchable status and the build up and visuals of them. And lastly, you can beat them by way of skill instead of by way of bullshit rune stacking and Frenzy resist armor.
It's like they looked at Winter Lanterns and decided to do that, but fix everything that made them shit while keeping what made them creepy and doubling down on it.
These enemies are awesome.

my initial thought was that there was going to be some massive thing roaming the whole forest that I had to hide from, when I saw it was only the winter lantern areas, that you can easily detour around btw, I was kinda disappointed

This scared the hell out of me when I first encounter them. I ran past the messages thinking they were just random player messages, and then got destroyed by them.
Fuck those things, i spent years dodging attacks because i accepted that i was just shit at parrying, and then the enemy requires parrying just to beat it
Jesus....I literally dont know how to parry after beating This game, bloodborne and demons souls. I said "yeah this parry thing isnt for me. I'll just never get touched"

It really adds when you notice that Torrent is too scared to be summoned, I was genuinely expecting something horrific
I'm shocked you survived the grab attack. That attack always one shot me during my 1st playthrough of the DLC.
Imagine this in Bloodborne. You have access to stealth. You can stalk your prey in the dark, in bushes, under waterfalls, below tree branches high up. And some beasts in particular... too dangerous to be left alone, too passive to attack Yharnam or it's neighbouring cities, yet too enticing to resist to hunt.
Man I thought it'd be a great invisible beast that would kill some of the forest creatures every now and then. I assume it'd have prowled the path to the church. Only slightly dissapointed, but still a neat area.
Proof that elden ring is a culmination of all the souls games. These are just the frenzy eyeball monsters from bloodborne.

Since day one of playing elden ring, assassin's gambit misericorde has always been a staple in all of my playthroughs. You can't imagine how justified I felt when I got to the point. It actually helped me escape one of those things once.
I feel like if you have the frenzied flame in your character u shouldn’t be affected or at least make it so u can survive 2-3 hits

If you'd locked on, you would've noticed the lack of a health bar.
Apparently you can parry them and as long as you hit them while stance broken they can start to take damage
You have to survive the madness long enough for you to parry the grab. After that he is open to be killed. They don't respawn after you kill them.

Pro tip: use assassins gambit. It allows you to just run passed these guys.

Just in case some people might not know, you can parry the grab and it will automaticaly break their stance allowing for a critical hit that can damage them but will not kill them in a single hit, so u must do it twice, and it becomes more agressive after you do it the first time, so good luck, combat is in fact an option, u just gotta git gud haha
You dont have to parry twice, just parry once and finish it off with a charged heavy attack

@@Zedonus0you can pretty consistently get a parry on them with a buckler shield. If you stand at range within their vicinity, they will teleport behind you and knock you down. Bait them into it on flat ground, then, once your knocked, lock on, mid-roll to the right, and mash the parry, it'll connect most times I've tried it

I didn't even bother attacking those dudes. I just ran with Black knife armor and the concealing talisman until I reached the hidden mansion.
There is easy timing for parry. After it teleports roll right, turn forward and parry

For example, the part where it says "Don't let it see you" would have been more ominous on its own, rather than including the "no escape" and "it can't be touched"

What armor is that? I know that helmet is from the DLC, but I started a new character after not playing for a while and can’t tell what the rest of it is. Night Cavalry maybe or something else from the DLC? Asking because this is EXACTLY the look I’m going for with the character.

Finally they improved stealth mechanic something that was a little bit lacking in previous games and base Elden ring.
For some reason the two that are next to each other can be damaged with bleed infused bandit curved swords, how do I know, I was playing with a friend and tried trolling her into those are npcs you can talk to and she proceeded to kill it without parrying it. I was confused asf. But it's just those two, not the ones that are by themselves.
At level 15 with no upgraded weapons, I killed that and the next two with 5 parries… sadly they don’t come back but you do get a talisman and two rare crafting mats from the trio… gonna duplicate the shit out of those til I have 699 since there’s (so far from what I’ve seen on my level 15) only three of those things

It’s part of the Armor of Night, which is found in the Bonny Gaol after going up or down a pot hanging from chains. It’s on a corpse by a couple shadowmen.
Those are called the winter lanterns and they exists in bloodborne at nightmare of mensis, they used to make you frenzy and they were scary, but you can kill them, here myazaki showed us what fear is when he made them unkillable, well done you made me shit bricks
You can kill them the same way ypu would in bloodborne, parry
Just that in bloodborne it was to abuse the s to dodge the frenzy, here it's the only way to kill them

The camera lock is a legit problem to this game. Larger boses are a pain to fight locked on. And frame rates really do matter when it comes to dodging split second attacks
