Devin Wallien, thank you for this very informative video on Pachira aquatic, the Money Tree. I've never seen such a huge Money Tree in person or in the plant expert channels. Quite amazing your tree is 25 years old! I think you are the real deal. Thank you so much!
Hi Devin. You just saved my money tree. Putting it outside to dry out did the trick! It was overwatered, and now looks fabulous. Also your advice about needing to be pot bound before transplanting was well taken! Thanks, you really love plants.
I have had one for a year and this was extremely helpful! I don’t typically have much success at keeping plants alive so this is exciting to have it still living after a year! 🎉❤😊

Hello. Thank you so much for this video. I have been searching for tips and this is the first useful thing I’ve found! After cutting back the trunks/stems, how long should I expect it to take for them to start growing again?
Help please! I bought a money tree plant in October, I repotted it and it began to drop leaves and leaves where turning yellow and have notches in them. It took about a month or more for the soil to dry out so I became worried about root rot so I stopped watering. I also became concerned that I may have planted the trunk a little to low in the soil, so is pushed the soil away from the trunk. It seemed to help it came back and with lots of new foliage. But now here it is May I haven't lost anymore leaves since December or any yellow leaves. BUT now I noticed one of the trunks on it is dried out at the bottom like if its dehydrated. Is there any way of saving it? Any recommendations? Thank You
Hmm well I’m glad you fixed it being too low in the soil, that will definitely kill it, likewise the soil should stay wet for no more than 3-4 days. Consider moving it outside in a shaded area for summer
That's a beautiful houseplant. I live in your area in NJ near the Commadore Barry Bridge. Can you recommend a place to buy good quality plants in this area? I do watch you on QVC.

Hello. Thanks for sharing. Your plants are beautiful. I inherited a 20 year old Pachira and it's not doing very well. It grew without braiding and appears weak. Will it be possible to cut the 3 stems you have, place them to take root, plant and braid them? And discard the entire current base where the braid is, as it is quite dry (it looks ugly). Thank you
Hi, my daughter just gave me a Japanese money tree for Mother’s Day. She bought it from a farmers market. It is not braided at all. Just one trunk(diameter around base is about 12 inches, height about 9 inches). It has two very long skinny shoots and a few smaller shoots.. what do i do with this? Can i braid the shoots and go from there?
Hi! You guys have some really healthy looking plants🪴🪴👏I have a Pachira Aquatica that has sticky leaves. Underneath at the branch there are some slimey droplets they stay there and don´t fall so I´m wondering if it´s pest? Some of the leaves are green and others are yellow and spotty. I live in Scandinavia so it´s cold now but it´s by two large windows however no sun for months now. Any advice if it´s salvageable?
Yes that is the classic sign of a pest such as aphids or spider mites. If you spray the plant with horticultural soap repeatedly for a week that should solve the problem

Hi Devin, when do I remove the black bands from the bottom sides of my plant?? Just bought them and don’t know how long to leave them on for!! Thank you
My money tree is 15ft and has flowered - just like the flower shown in your vid. I understand they have to be 10yr old before they flower ! I'd like to send you a photo but I can't find a place to do that!
We have a money tree whose trunks didn't grow twisted. It was a gift for my husband. He just let the trunks grow straight up. Can we twist the stalks now or will it kill the plant? The plant is probably about 15 years old. Plus it's getting too tall and has surpassed the top of the windows. Is there a way to shorten it or cut it back? I know this is a lot. We don't know what to do and don't want to kill it.
My money tree has shot up 3 foot but has little leaves and bare about half way up. Any suggestions? While I was bracing the one shoot broke off right before the leaves started. Help we have had this tree for years and would like to save it.
I would suggest cutting it back and letting it start over. That’ll help it get much bushier. Cut back to the top of the braid or top of the woody growth
I have one that I got my husband almost 5 years ago, it was so tiny and it now like 6 ft tall, but sooooo long and leggy. Should I cut it down to the base and let it grow new leaf sprouts? Can I propagate with the cuttings and braid them to start a new plant. I really don’t know what to do with it, is there an option to email an image to review? Thank you!
Help my money tree is huge. I’ve had it for years since it was a baby maybe 2020?. Now it’s like 52” tall & it’s tipping over. Am I supposed to braid it more ?? I think it’s time to repot, it’s grown so much every year I seem to need to repot it. 🤔
I need your plant expertise!! My money trees are only 5 yrs old, about 6ft tall but hardly any branches or leaves. How can I keep it short and full I stead of so tall it's pushing against my ceiling?
Ive overly attached to this money tree i bought years ago, unfortunately im down to only two stems, is there anywhere a new stem could grow? Ive done what you said by cutting the top of one of my stems(as a test cause i dont wanna kill it) and hoping that'll promote a new shoot growing to make it bushier. If there is a way to send you a photo and get some more tips that would be greatly appreciated, thank you for this video though ill watch it a few times
@@plantvibrations I should have waited until I finished the video to comment but I see you covered tht too hence part of the reason ur 25 year old tree is so lush.
Finally, somebody else who isn’t afraid to root prune! I’ve seen so many people taking hours to comb out, or trying to untangle miles of roots into single strands with a little rake then pruning an inch or two off of each one 😂. The bread knife (or saw if the 😖plant is really huge) is by far the easiest, and I think best method. Well done that man 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🫢

Once you start to see the stem turning gray (becoming woodier) you can safely remove the band
My money tree is 15ft and has flowered - just like the flower shown in your vid. I understand they have to be 10yr old before they flower ! I'd like to send you a photo but I can't find a place to do that!
Perhaps you can send me a photo via Instagram!

Thanks!
Wow thank you mark for your support!!
Send me a photo on Instagram and I’ll show you where you can cut
My money tree has shot up 3 foot but has little leaves and bare about half way up. Any suggestions? While I was bracing the one shoot broke off right before the leaves started. Help we have had this tree for years and would like to save it.
I would suggest cutting it back and letting it start over. That’ll help it get much bushier. Cut back to the top of the braid or top of the woody growth
@@plantvibrations thank you
My money tree’s stems are dry and wrinkly. Hoping they will get smooth and plump this spring
👍👍
Great advice! My money tree just got so tall and lanky. Sounds silly but is it bad luck to cut a tall one down?
Definitely not! It is an important thing to do to keep them healthy
Which grow light is that in your plant? It looks like a small type of led? And for the soil mix is that also sphagnum moss in your soil mix??
You can find a link to the light in the description below! and yes it is sphagnum moss
@@plantvibrations Awesome thank you!
Thank you!
You can send me a photo via Instagram!
wonderful!!!! Thank you. I will do so now. I just started following you there
Keeping braided, would it strangulate the plant as it grows?
Not in my experience
Hi did you have put money under the pot before plants it thanks I just get one 3days ago .
Hahah no i didn’t
Do you have any idea where it’s possible to buy them from seed? Amazon has sellers with fake seeds
Hmm I’m not sure, perhaps Etsy
What would it look like if unbraided?
Still pretty, just a little more wild
Help my money tree is huge. I’ve had it for years since it was a baby maybe 2020?. Now it’s like 52” tall & it’s tipping over. Am I supposed to braid it more ?? I think it’s time to repot, it’s grown so much every year I seem to need to repot it. 🤔
Consider cutting it back. That will thicken up the braid and re establish it at a better height for you
I need your plant expertise!! My money trees are only 5 yrs old, about 6ft tall but hardly any branches or leaves. How can I keep it short and full I stead of so tall it's pushing against my ceiling?
You need to just cut it back like I mentioned
Hi! Can you do a video explaining what to do when there are a lot of yellow leaves on your money tree too? :(
Check for drainage! If it is in too much water that often causes it
Ive overly attached to this money tree i bought years ago, unfortunately im down to only two stems, is there anywhere a new stem could grow? Ive done what you said by cutting the top of one of my stems(as a test cause i dont wanna kill it) and hoping that'll promote a new shoot growing to make it bushier. If there is a way to send you a photo and get some more tips that would be greatly appreciated, thank you for this video though ill watch it a few times
You can send me a photo via Instagram
I suggest cutting off all the branched leaves and then rebraid, the leave will grow back fuller too and ur braid will be longer
Thanks for the tips
@@plantvibrations I should have waited until I finished the video to comment but I see you covered tht too hence part of the reason ur 25 year old tree is so lush.
Your tress are absolutely stunning! I’m having the hardest time with mine. I’m on my second one and I’m not sure he’s going to make it. 😢
Hopefully there were some good tips in the video!!
Great tips. I’m just not sure what I’m doing wrong. I want to buy another one and do the opposite just to see if I can figure it out 🤦♀️🤷♀️🫣
I made the mistake of reporting into a large container. Big mistake. It now has one 3 ft woody stem. Can I salvage it?
Unfortunately once it gets woody it can’t go back
@@plantvibrations thank you .can I take cuttings from the top and propagate around the woody stem?
I have also a one year old Pachira Aquatica, given my children on my last birthday, year 2023, that's why last August 24, 2024, it's one year old.💖💝💗
That big money tree plant is gorgeous, I have a small money tree plant but the braid can undone and I only have i stem root, so sad
can you rebraid it?
@@plantvibrations no I just have one stem or trunk
I'm down to two and one of the trunks feels soft at the bottom. Leaves super small. I only have north facing windows.
Well done that man 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🫢
Hahah glad you appreciate!!
is it better to fertilize the money tree after you transplant?
Give it a month after transplant before fertilizing
Hi I’m new to the channel and just bought a money tree from heb and I water it with 2 ice cubes every Wednesday is that all it needs? Also is it normal to be sideways ?
I wouldn’t recommend using ice cubes. Normal water is fine. If it’s leaning to one side, rotate it regularly
@@plantvibrations ok I’ll just start doing that. Thank you and have a blesssd day
What type of soil you use? Can I use any kind of soil or the tomatoes soil will work for money tree?do you meant by soil for indoor?
I would suggest a houseplant potting mix
@@plantvibrations do you meant by soil indoor?
So how are you going to water it? Keep it in the cache or remove? You struggled to drop it in
Keep it in the cache for now!
But all drained water will be sitting in the cache pot
@jul7673 he's quite experienced, he knows how much water to use without it drowning. I would use a large saucer, any pooling water can be removed with a baster.
Shouldn't you take more of the old soil out of the root ball when repotting it?
I could’ve washed it off but it doesn’t really matter or affect anything
My trunk is sprouting leaves, do you think it's time tore-plant?
Just nub the sprouts out like I show in the video
Devin thanks I have one 4, 6 year .
🙌🙌🙌
Help I’m killing my new money plant and idk how to distinguish the difference because it’s similar to all the issues you said it could happen
you can send an image via instagram and i can try to diagnose
If you put them outside don’t bugs go in and then you bring them in?
I never worry about bugs but you can follow this protocol if desired th-cam.com/video/8WVlEwyZiXU/w-d-xo.html
Just bought a money tree it was the last one left. It has a bad lean. How can I fix it. Otherwise it is a beauty
You can cut it back and place outside in sun and that should help straighten it out. you can also repot it and reposition it more upright
Thank you!
